I really don't know why they insist on adding the hammer suit, it's a really bad item.
@@Heavy_Orbital I don't get it either. It's just a fire flower with a different arc. You have the cape, blue shell, mini Mario, etc., but let's just add fire flower 2 instead.
@@souptaels honestly i find hammer to be more annoying to aim. And i guess it kills different stuff than fire flowers do but it isn't going to be that useful for a smb1 hack (hammer suit in NewerSMBWii is accually pretty good)
@@souptaels The problem is that those power-ups are very hard to add, for the hammer suit, they can just use the same 'actor' for when a hammer bro throws a hammer and make it kill enemies on collision. It's even simpler in Newer Wii, where they just take the actor of when Yoshi spits out a hammer.

the rollercoaster of emotions when you got to that last level!! I'm so sad that this wasn't finished, especially since that ice flower looked great. imagine the puzzle potential, ooagh 😭
Its really intresting what people can do with such old titles. The power of reverse engineering games to do other stuff they werent designed to is outstanding. Cheera

@@hdofu Yeah, the original SMB Special had many problems and the 35th anniversary edition really redeemed it
I'm wondering if the sound effects being weird is because they changed the sound channel priority so the music is a higher priority than the sound effects, causing the sound effects to get clipped, or played back with fewer than normal sound channels? The music didn't seem to change as a result of sound effects like it usually does (except for the P Switch music.)
extra sound channel(s). instead of having a restriction of 2 squares, one triangle, one noise, and one dcpm, the famicom can use sound chips hidden in the cartridge to boost the in game sounds. it's probably using the FDS sound chip but i'm suprised how they managed that on an NES, which i don't think uses extra sound chips from cartridges.
@@marioisawesome8218 yeah there’s tons of nes games with extra sound chips. people use them in famitracker a lot.

I love that Luigi's hat in the lives indicator changes color when you get a fire flower!
i'm pretty sure that didn't require any additional coding. it probably just uses luigi's palette, so when luigi's palette changes the lives indicator does too because it would be a waste to include the same palette twice.
By the far the most well made rom hack you've played, that fact that this rom has so many more features compared to others speaks on the level of difficulty of making it

The H. suit, the way the levels are build (things like the beginning of w1-4 or the pipe before the boss), the boss, the music, everything about this hack is just mindblowing O.O
That 8-bit Prelude was crispy! Not sure if it sounded that good in the original games or what, but still, good choice of title music!

Kosmic - heres a Rom hack I thought ya might be intrested in, Im playin it now its called ' The Desert Trip '. Its hard af without being tolly or having cheap deaths..........has lots of them red pirahna plants that still come up even when close to/on top of the pipe which makes for some difficult jumps/timing Id say its about as hard as SMB2J or slightly harder.
6:38 perhaps they made the multi-coin behave like NSMB-DS coin blocks where if you empty them they give a mushroom
I love how the sound effects sound like they're being emulated wrong... but that's just what they sound like

It gives a smaller hitbox, which is almost never a disadvantage. Doing it all the time helps with muscle memory.
most of the time it's to avoid hitting your head on something. If you point out an example I could explain it. But yeah usually so you dont hit head on ceiling, sometimes it happens just as part of switching from left to right/holding a diagonal

Can somebody explain what makes a SMB rom hack more impressive than just a game built on it's own? Like could this theoretically be run on a regular NES?
Yes it runs on original hardware which is much more obnoxious to program for than modern stuff is so not a lot of people go to the effort

powerup jump was patched in this hack for some reason. Maybe that's why?
