Bowser locks the screen until you kill him, which there’s no way to do from up there, so the second he scrolled the screen past the entrance he’d have gotten himself stuck
Uhhm I was wondering if the level would work normally if you went above the castle level, mainly 6-4. I mean, you wouldn't be able to hit the axe or kill bowser right?
i think the level transitions are changed from being based on touching an object to reaching a certain x position, and the game doesn't stop scrolling at the end of a level, so theoretically you could just walk right over 6-4
Mod author here; you could totally go over top. I didn't think about that. When the level runs out of data to load, the counter increments, so you totally could go above.
This makes me picture a romhack that's the entire game essentially on one level and you just have to see how far you can get. Warps still work as usual (will take you to the beginning of a level's section), so speedrunners can easily beat the whole game before time runs out, but the warpless challenge is seeing how far you can go.
i love that mario dying is also faster, like instead of going up a little and then going down he just goes straight down like he's getting spiked offscreen

I do suspect that a cutsceneless SMB2 USA wouldn't be too hard for someone--like just hijack the bird mouth animation and jump the game to the next level. (Also maybe boss death animations for the world transitions.) It wouldn't look fancy like your hack, but it seems doable for someone who knows NES code.

So now it's just a big IL without framerules, NOICE. Also it seems that hammerbros are always mad at you, i assume it's because technically the level hasn't changed.
I'd love to see this sort of thing for something like Super Mario World. You could start at Yoshi's House, walk right for YI2, and left for YI1. A big hill at the end of YI1 leads to the yellow button. No map screen! idk how secret exits would work, but it's an idea I've always liked.
This version would be awesome for races, no need to worry about getting screwed by bad frame rules or doing a trick that only works on 1 in 1000 tries to get slightly ahead, just pure endurance gameplay and execution!
Lúcio Correia da Silva Santos AntDude made a video covering Kirby mods and that was one of the mods he talked about, I forget the name of it but I know that each door that would normally be the end of a level instead leads straight to the next level
Woah, this is such a simple yet powerful concept. Nintendo better adopt this idea for Mario Maker 😬 The transition is much needed. Even if there's a small loading frame to load the next level, the entire "flag pole" idea seems to be a limiting factor
Oh, this reminds me of Widescreen Mario or whatever it was called. It let you see as much of the level as would fit on your screen and there was an image of a dude with like 5 monitors next to each other, so you could see the entire level at once
Not sure if this was mentioned, but I tried out the game, and found that you can jump over the Bowser axe, and the level will still transition to the next without needing to actually defeat Bowser. Not sure what that will mean for those who wanna speedrun this seriously.
Let’s hope the enemy spawns and placements get fixed and fixing despawning enemies and and more tweaks maybe this game can get its own speed run segments
Due to the way SMB1 streams in its levels, this hack probably wasn't difficult to make. The biggest problem probably were palette transitions between levels. I would love to see him try to make such hack of more complicated games such as SMB3 or Contra.
