Man I wanna see you react to this song live. They always have something humorous going on on a background screen during the hip hop and it’s great. I’ve heard a lot of old school Rush fans shit on this song, but it’s one of my all time favourites.

This album usually doesn't go to high on many Rush fans' list. It's around the top of my list. The lyrics are great in this album. The music is simpler, but has a groove to it. I've heard people say it's not their best work because of its simplicity. I just say, there's something great about a master of their instrument playing a simple groove. My favorite songs off the Roll the bones album. Roll the bones, dreamline, bravado, ghost of a chance, and neurotica.

So much ice outside you couldn't even walk let alone drive to the concert but nothing was ging to stop me and my friends from seeing rush! So glad and honored I got to see them live.
I'm so glad you reacted to this song and that you enjoyed it. I hoped you would. As others commented, the rap voice was Geddy through a voice synthesizer. Pretty brilliant stuff. I was not very impressed by the Roll The Bones album when it came out. I felt it was a misstep coming off their incredible Presto album, which is a career highlight for them, in my opinion. Roll the Bones was an exploration of Postmodern philosophy, which I've never been a big fan of. But I've warmed up to the album over the decades and truly appreciate the hard-driving music, if not the lyrical theme. But Neil's writing skills really shine, as they always do.
Presto is an incredible album, I feel that it's the best lyrics Neil ever wrote. I don't necessarily agree with the lyrics on RTB (although "Bravado" is on point), but for me the album where I try to tune out the lyrics is still Test For Echo. Ged and Alex are still writing at a high level on that record ("Virtuality" is Alex's best riff since "Limelight"), but I'd swear Neil was drunk.
This was my first Rush concert. Jan 1991 Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto. Pit row J, 10 rows from the stage. The Tragically Hip opened for Rush and Rush was kind enough to loan TTH their sound equipment for what was TTH's first really big concert. Many years later both Gord Downie (who I met at his aunt's place) and Neil Peart both passed away from the same form of cancer. "Why are we here? Because we're here; roll the bones" - No one know why we are here - take a chance and make the best of it. When the greatest rock trio ever is better at rap than the best rapper - thats Rush. Great review as always. Rush on.
one of my favorite Rush tunes is "Countdown," which is about the first Space Shuttle launch. NASA gave them all kinds of footage to use for their video. it's a killer video. definintely not one to miss. you were probably about 4 when the first one went up? it was a huge deal...HUGE. the video and the song captures the moment as only Rush can do.
Thanks for reacting to a song that isn't typically featured on the reaction channels. They played this on the last tour and it was fun to dance to. The rap is a bit corny, but they owned it and that's what I love about Rush. They weren't afraid to experiment and incorporate different styles of music into something unique.
Jamal man, I found you a few days ago and I just love your reactions. I've been a Rush fan since 1977 (discovered via my sister when I was 12) and saw them live for the first time in 1980 and saw them at least once on every tour. Rush is literally the soundtrack to my life. Back in high school (when Subdivisions came out) admitting you were a Rush fan was committing social suicide. Only 'nerds' listened to Rush. But all those 'flavour of the month' bands and one hit wonders vanished and Rush soldiered on and we supported them with gusto year in, year out. And when Snakes and Arrows came out, I started a divorce from hell. That album (again literally) saved my life. Whenever I got the feeling of wanting to step out on that 'ledge', I put on S&A and turned around. Your discovery of MY band brings me GREAT joy! Welcome to the club, brother, we've been expecting you.
Huge props to you Brother. You react to a great cross section of Rush's body of work. 70s,80s,90s, and I'm sure you will work up to Clockwork Angels. It's the fact that the quality is always at another level, that makes them The Greatest Band in Rock history. Thanks
When the band was recording "Roll the Bones," Lee said they decided to "have some fun" with it and included a rap section. Peart recalled some skepticism from his band mates at first and they tried different ways to present it, including a female voice, but "the transition was too harsh." They instead opted for Lee's voice with low-frequency effects applied to it.
@@SilverFox-qr1ci I lived in Sudbury, Ontario at the time, and the station I listened to was Q92, where I heard "Dreamline" first. You are likely right about "Roll the Bones." It was first hearing "Dreamline" that brought me to the album.
IIRC Neil got the idea for Roll the Bones here: "Gonna Roll the Bones" is a fantasy short story by American writer Fritz Leiber, in which a character plays craps with Death. First published in Harlan Ellison's Dangerous Visions, it won both the Hugo Award and Nebula Award for Best Novelette.
Incredible, iconic masterpiece from Rush. Evocative, deep lyrics, with the expected master musicianship. I didn't really love that rap section. Cool, hip, and trendy for the time? OK...I get that. Kind of the exact opposite of what I want from Rush. They should have dropped out the guitar and drums right there and laid down a magical musical interlude that they are so fantastic at.
“THE THINKING MAN’S BAND ... the original rock n roller fans didn’t like the direction Rush took back in the day. But this reaction is proof Rush made a global marketing decision to reach a larger and wider audience! Rush was in the mix and forefront of ever era ... THAT’S TALENT ... Period
Saw this by BIGBADBOB JR "instead opted for Lee's voice with low-frequency effects applied to it." Thanks BBB! I saw a comment on a vid of Rush in concert something to the effect of , yes Getty plays bass, keyboards, synthesizer ,moog?, sings and Taurus effect/bass pedals AND somehow finds some time to get laundry done too! (The vid of live performance showed the washing machines on stage.) I almost fell off the chair laughing when I first read it! For the Presto album tour, I remember there was huge stuffed rabbits bobbin' on each side of the stage. I've seen guys in gorilla suits running around up there. Vending machines too. Once I saw a chicken suited person come onstage with basting sauce and brush to brush it on lots of chickens that were in a big rotisserie. That chicken was a cannibal?, Haha! The look on your face when the 'rap' starts. Priceless. Right on, Bruce G!! hahaha! Keep up the good work Jamal!
Making Memories is my go to rush song. It reminds me of traveling around northern Ontario in my early 20's. Using Thunder Bay as my brought up in city from the age of 5 as a home base; I explored most of the northern towns and communities along the northern ontario section of the Trans-Canada highway.
Name another classic rock band that could pull that off. Master musicians, master songwriters, no genre is taboo. Always super smart lyrics. This band had me looking for a dictionary when I was 12.
My first Rush cd! My brother was a huge fan and he got it for me (along with a custom tye dye from the tour) for my birthday. He loved to follow them on tour!
Honestly Jamal, i have never seen you trying to sing along to any of the bands/artists you react to. Rush just seems to wake up something in you, your own human nature. Just like they did with me. Greetings from Portugal man and i wish you all the best in life.
I didn't see anyone point this out yet in comment, but Rush live vs studio are very different. During their career they would record an album, then spend a few months in a remote location preparing the tour material. By the time they were on the road, they had added jam session elements, embellishments, and crazy solos.
I appreciate the love you give Rush. Alot of people don't understand what Rush can do for your soul. 3 of the most talented humble musicians with so much talent. Keep up the great videos

The message in this song, as I hear it, is that there's no grand plan just random luck. But, at the same time, you can have a positive or negative on the outcome depending on your actions and attitude. "good work is the key to good fortune. Winners take that praise, losers seldom take that blame."
I love these videos my man. I often hear your interpretations of the lyrics and go oh yeah never thought of it like that! Keep doing what you're doing!!
Jamel face during 'Rush Rap' 8-? Hilarious. One of my fav line in Neil's lyrics (which say a lot)…"The Night has a Thousand Saxophones!, so Get out there and ROCK and Roll The Bones"
And I am sure you have been shared this already, but thought I would remind you that not only is Neil the drumming god, but also their primary lyricist. Genious...
I’m pretty new to the channel but I want to recommend The Garden. It was the final song Neil Peart wrote and it really encapsulates a lot of his experience in the band and it seems to only show more meaning now that he’s gone.
Rush on.
Getting into "newer" Rush. Would love to hear Animate and The Pass
Two great options
Also "Test for Echo", "Driven", and "Malignant Narcissism"
The Pass, great great song.
I strongly second this. Two of my favorites.
stlkid30 both great choices.
one of my favorite Rush tunes is "Countdown," which is about the first Space Shuttle launch. NASA gave them all kinds of footage to use for their video. it's a killer video. definintely not one to miss. you were probably about 4 when the first one went up? it was a huge deal...HUGE. the video and the song captures the moment as only Rush can do.
This reaction was priceless.
Thanks for reacting to a song that isn't typically featured on the reaction channels. They played this on the last tour and it was fun to dance to. The rap is a bit corny, but they owned it and that's what I love about Rush. They weren't afraid to experiment and incorporate different styles of music into something unique.
The “bones” are dice as in “Roll the Dice”/ take a chance. This is because dice, years ago, were made out of bone
Also...please do “Babylon Sisters” by Steely Dan
“I love everything from them...” me too. Meeeee toooooo😂
Huge props to you Brother. You react to a great cross section of Rush's body of work.
70s,80s,90s, and I'm sure you will work up to Clockwork Angels. It's the fact that the quality is always at another level, that makes them The Greatest Band in Rock history.
Thanks
Thank you. More RUSH please...Primus as well. Thanks again.
Think it's time for Cygnus X-1 and Cygnus X-1 book II:Hemisphers
I had to watch this reaction several times because of your great response loved it, flip the dice and let life lead you keep digging into Rush.!!
Rush Digital man
Finally!!! Way to dig deeper!! Love ❤️ it!! HEADLONG FLIGHT-🙏🏻✌🏻
Jamal, Rush Hemispheres. It's long, but the music takes you on avtrip without leaving your seat.
When the band was recording "Roll the Bones," Lee said they decided to "have some fun" with it and included a rap section.
Peart recalled some skepticism from his band mates at first and they
tried different ways to present it, including a female voice, but "the
transition was too harsh." They instead opted for Lee's voice with
low-frequency effects applied to it.
Have you done Distant Early Warning by Rush. As a Rush Fan since 74 I consider this later Rush.
I've been playing Distant Early Warning on guitar a lot lately. Not sure why!
LOL Proving Einstein's theory of relativity, eh? :)
I saw them about 4 times in my life.
It wasnt enough.
RIP Professors ❤
Rush has no signature sound, as this proves. The rap section kept this song off of the classic rock stations back in the day, unfortunately.
I remember the album opener, "Dreamline," getting a good deal of airplay, though. This was the first Rush album I bought.
Not here on the mighty Q
@@SilverFox-qr1ci I lived in Sudbury, Ontario at the time, and the station I listened to was Q92, where I heard "Dreamline" first. You are likely right about "Roll the Bones." It was first hearing "Dreamline" that brought me to the album.
@@SilverFox-qr1ci My hat's off to the MightyQ for not staying in their little box..
I live in NYC and that was not the case with NY radio here.
Roll the bones = a metaphor for throwing the dice and taking a shot! Genious!
Big money is cool too!!!!
All the vocals like the voice in necromancer and roll the bones were Brother Neil, and we're reproduced digitally in concert.
That was Geddy himself rapping.
You need to review “Nobody’s hero” by Rush very poignant lyrics to what is currently happening in the world
This and "Subdivisions" are 2 of my fav Rush songs
Incredible, iconic masterpiece from Rush. Evocative, deep lyrics, with the expected master musicianship. I didn't really love that rap section. Cool, hip, and trendy for the time? OK...I get that.
Kind of the exact opposite of what I want from Rush. They should have dropped out the guitar and drums right there and laid down a magical musical interlude that they are so fantastic at.
Sooo many people hated them for this, but it just made me appreciate them that much more. 🤘❤️🖖🇨🇦✌️🎹🥁🎸🎤
Great channel man! Whenever you can, react to "RUSH - The Weapon (Count Floyd Intro) live 1984 - Grace Under Pressure Tour"
Thanks ! Have a great day
“THE THINKING MAN’S BAND ... the original rock n roller fans didn’t like the direction Rush took back in the day. But this reaction is proof Rush made a global marketing decision to reach a larger and wider audience! Rush was in the mix and forefront of ever era ... THAT’S TALENT ... Period
5:15 Kinda loses something without the Rapping Skeleton.
Oh yeah, this is just about as ‘funky’ as three white guys from Canada can get😆😂🤣
Roll the Bones refers throwing dice. "Take a chance, roll the bones."
Great song. I love playing this one on my drum kit.
One of my favorite songs from my one of my favorite albums of my favorite band.
Been rolling the bones for ever. Rush all day long!
I've seen them twice. One of the he concerts was the Roll The Bones tour. Great freaking show.
A lost, forgotten gem from them, and one of my favorites. The groove is real. Great reaction!
Would you believe....that I first heard this song on my Rush Live in Rio DVD?!?? Wow...this is the first I've heard the studio version. Heavy lyrics!! Good choice!!
I also like: Earthshine. (Live in Rio)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
OMG! THAT WAS GREAT!
THANK YOU JAMAL!
I needed that! And by now I'm sure ya know it's Neil!
My favorite reaction right now! (still chuckling🤭)
😁💥💯🖤🎶🤘
RIP Neil Peart
The message in this song, as I hear it, is that there's no grand plan just random luck. But, at the same time, you can have a positive or negative on the outcome depending on your actions and attitude. "good work is the key to good fortune. Winners take that praise, losers seldom take that blame."
I love these videos my man. I often hear your interpretations of the lyrics and go oh yeah never thought of it like that! Keep doing what you're doing!!
The list is endless ,try test for echo, driven, half the world, far cry , working them Angels, Hersey!!! Powerful!!!!!
"I love everything from them" is why I love you !
I haven’t been able to listen to it or Losing It (another great but sad song) since his passing. Keep up the great work!
It seems that you have become the ambassador of Rush music. And that's a great thing!
