I had an 86' SHELBY CHARGER I bought factory direct while stationed in W Germany. My parents picked it up for me. It had the Turbo 2.2 w/Bosch MPFI w/a 5 spd trans. For a FWD 4cyl it was a pretty sick little car. I blew the doors off a 350 4bbl Chevy p/u going over 120mph and it wasn't even breathing hard while I was stationed at Ft. Bliss. The guy followed me into the parking lot at my billets & asked me how fast I was going cause his speedo only went to 115mph & I was pulling away from him. I told him I didn't have it floored and popped the hood. He turned a sick shade of green and said "NO FUCKING WAY!". LOL And that wasn't even the GLHS model that was intercooled w/the variable vane Turbo.

K.I.T.T will always be etched in my memories as possibly the most incredible TV/Movie car from my childhood. I seriously doubt the appeal of Knight Rider would be been as great if K.I.T.T. was anything other than a Trans Am. When they revamped Knight Rider in an attempt to bring it back with Val Kilmer voicing a so called K.I.T.T. in a figgin POS Mustang I almost soiled my pants and I wanted to cry out of sheer anger. and plus now since most new cars can talk to you then Knight Rider kind of lost its appeal. the whole idea of Knight Rider was a talking car which in the 80s when the show came out that was a big deal it was truly a thing of the future and now that it is the future it's kind of lost its appeal.

At least one of the movie cars had different door mountings. The car shown in this video has Ferrari style doors. In the movie, the scene where Jake meets Carrie near the end of the movie, the driver's side door opens gullwing style. Once his "revenge suit" phases out, Jake flexes his neck and says, "I can't do THAT again." Just before that moment is when you see the door swing upwards, gullwing style.

I've not seen that movie in years! I had a crush on the girl & fell in love with the car😊, glad to see/hear about the restoration of the most interesting cars I've ever seen. I think that if by chance you were able to make copies or kits you could make some cool $$$$.

Interesting. I lived in Phoenix when they filmed that movie and saw that trailer and tractor sitting in a truck stop. I later read that they prototype car was used in the movie for some still shots and scenes but I didn't know they had replicas. Underrated movie. Still one I watch from time to time.

Ahhhhhh so satisfying to know that my project car has the same engine it is truly remarkable this was one of the most popular turbocharged engines in the 80s a time before people knew what a Gtr or a Supra was.

Creepy White Guy Yes that is true, but none of those would handle as well as the 4 cylinder.

Oh man. The flames shooting out at 2:20 was awesome. I would have loved to see the gull wing doors on it again. Maybe updated with HID or LED headlights.

    First I miss the 80s
Second a 2.2 liter is not tiny
Third auto stabilization is the stupidest thing after alternative rock
And forth , I really miss the 80s

I remember watching this as a kid, as no doubt most of you. There was a scene at the end where the guy with the car gives it to someone and says: "It's the only one in existence" My stepdad then said, it's not the only one, it's a Lamborghini. I could not convince him otherwise.

LONG before blacked out cars and 4X4's were at every turn, this movie car made me want a wraith of my own. Dark, mysterious, and ominous... and what the heck is it?! Now black is so over-done, any color is better. But this car (and Darth Vader) started it all. lol
