The loss to Northern Illinois was inexcusable. It was catastrophic, and the Irish are fortunate to get into the playoffs at all. So we can't complain. Btw, I would have no confidence if ND had to play Indiana - they're much better than people think.
I'm sure Alabama feels the same way after they got hoes by a Vanderbilt sometimes these things happen if we go undefeated the rest of the way we'll be fine
But Bama loses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee and they’re right behind us. Dude the rankings are going to work themselves out. I believe if we take care of business we’ll land on that beloved 5 seed
I do too. But I honestly kind of understand the ranking. PSU lost to a really good OSU team in a close game. I agree with Tyler that absent a couple of bone-head plays by Will Howard, OSU would have blown them out. The other side of that coin, though, is that PSU blew a couple of redzone opportunities that could have flipped that game the other way. I can't complain too much about the initial ranking. I would bet on ND over PSU, even on the road. I think ND would destroy BYU, either at home or on the road. I think 'Bama would be a real challenge for ND, regardless of location. I think Tennessee would be a struggle, especially on the road. I think Georgia would handle ND without much trouble. Lots of possibilities. At the end of the day, ND sh!t the bed against NIU. It happened. ND has to live with that. It is so crazy, though, to consider that if ND had just made a freakin' FG and pulled that NIU game out 17-16 ... ND is almost certainly in the top 2 or 3, and in the cat bird's seat headed into the playoffs ... assuming they continue to win. That one bad game, and it was atrocious, changes everything. Looking for Irish redemption.
@@dashx1103 I can also argue the refs being blind spotted NIU 3 points in the first half. I find it funny how people talk about the bad spot on NIU's gw FG drive, yet fail to acknowledge NIU getting away with CLEAR PASSS INTERFERENCE on the first INT of the game. That should've been called, defender shoved Greathouse before the ball was tipped and picked.
You’re counting waaaay too many chickens before they’re hatched Tyler. SMU could very well beat Miami. And when you think about it we could easily land on the 5 seed if we can take care of business. There are plenty of match ups to knock everyone down
I am disgusted at ND’s supposed pundits and fans always undervaluing ND. ND is uptrending and is improving toward elite if they can win their first two they could easily be the best by championship game, possibly the healthiest. Stop discounting this team.
Why does Penn State deserve to be in the playoff? Their best win is vs an unranked Illinois team. If Indiana losses once (even if it’s Ohio State) they don’t deserve to be in the playoff either. They’ve had a nice season but their schedule is super weak too. Ohio State will be the first ranked team they will have played & that’s their 2nd to last game of the regular season.
@@JaredColanese If Indiana wants a case to get in at 11-1, they MUST at least go toe to toe, and belong on the same field with Ohio State. If they get beat up by Ohio State, they're DONE. You can say what you want about Notre Dame having a close fluky bad loss to NIU, but Indiana can't get their ass kicked and have a case.
Could happen. But if I had to wager, I'd wager that ND will be in the playoff if they win out. I think the NIU loss will absolutely cost ND a shot at a home game in the playoffs. ND will have to go on the road. But I think ND matches up well with several possible opponents. I think ND would destroy BYU or Boise State. I think ND would handle Indiana and Miami, though I think Miami is tougher. I'd bet on ND against PSU, even on the road. I think Tennessee on the road is a tough game for ND, but winnable. Strangely, and mostly just a gut feeling, I think ND would fare well against Texas. I would not like ND's chances against Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State, or Georgia -- especially on the road. It is just going to come down to the matchups. My prediction is ND will make the playoff, win one game on the road (Tennessee?), then lose in RD 2. If that happens, I think that will be a pretty successful season overall. Something to build on.
When you use the word “we” and talk the way you do, it m ahhh es me wonder, are you really part of “we” @ericward? Alabama had TWO losses and one is to Vanderbilt. I think we are good, bro.
man i hate to say it but ND is not a lock at 11-1. i would love to think they are. but look out for chaos. i guarentee you 6-2 10-2 in the SEC will be in plus the loser of the SEC champ. so Ole miss , LSU , and Texas A M all could pass the Irish with 2 losses. plus if SMU wins vs Miami . that would be bad for us. Go Irish i pray we get in if we are 11-1
Are you stupid? Notre Dame beat Texas A&M at Texas A&M. LSU LOST to both A&M and USC. LSU would have NO CASE to be ahead of an 11-1 Notre Dame team. NONE. SMU, give me a break. Texas A&M is better than the 2 ranked teams SMU beat.
A lot of ND fans really hate PSU. And I guess their schedule isn't that good, for a Big Ten schedule. But I think we're better than PSU so I guess I must conclude this initial ranking is an outrage! I still think they're good though, and if they win out, then they definitely belong in the playoff.
I kind of agree with you. Mostly just a gut feeling, but I think FSU is going to hang around and make it more interesting than might be expected. I think ND will win by more than 4 points, but I don't think they will cover the spread -- which is something like 26. I'll predict ND 34 FSU 17. But with ND trailing early and then the game being close until the 4th Q.
