@Hulk Hogan spider 🤘
Very helpful! Thank you!
Far more than a tone review or a guitar demo, this is a full-on sound engineering session. Justin Johnson is most awesome -- he's a top artistic talent who loves to share all he knows. And he knows a lot! Thank you!!
Thought he played the guitar, turns out he's an electrician 😸👍
🤣🤣🤣

Justin, I can’t begin to tell you how much I love your videos. Both the performance, and instructional ones… keep it up! Everything is great work!
Mad respect for what you do. Love and enjoy your passion. That's living brother. Keep up the good work. ✌
simply thank you, Justin. Thank you for sharing your love for music with the world
Amazing! This was so helpful, thank you Justin.
I love informative videos like this! You explain things very well. Thank you for all of your awesome videos!
Its as much a pleasure listening to you speak as listening to you play. You are such a superb teacher, I take notes when I watch your videos because you always get a great sound, to compliment your brilliant musicianship, demonstrating ypu are knowledgeableand know what you're talking about. The information you clearly articulate is trustworthy, reliable and worth knowing. Before I saw this video, my tonal objective was tjhe same as yours, the acoustic tone complimented by the big electric tone. Thank You.
I just discovered this and saying Thank You just does not even begin to cover all the great tips you gave me for free. This completely changed how I view making recordings at home.
This was an amazing look at all this works. More videos like this please...Thanks Justin!
Great sound man, I love hearing you play.
Beautiful playing and tone
I Appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Keep rockin 🤘
Ok that’s a great video!!!!!! Thanks so much for that insight. Priceless
Sounded great. Totally agree with your observations and techniques.
You're a great player and I do enjoy your channel. Thanks
So great as usual
Thanks Justin
🎶👍🎶🎸🤙
Great sound! Don't know how many times your playing the threestring shovel has cheered me up on the bus! Thx man!
New slide player here! Thanks so much for the gear rundown. I understand your process. The pick up is absolutely something I should add to my guitars!
Very much likeys, thanks fer th excellent tutorial/insight into yer recordin methods, brother!
Gotta tell ya Justin as a non- player I found this to be interesting. PERSONALLY IN MY HUMBLE OPINION I wish that you would have maybe gone to a 70 mic 30 amp or 65/35 . Thanks for doing something like this, as I said I really found this to be pretty darn cool. Enough information without getting overly technical to get boring for someone that just enjoys your music. Thanks Justin and Nikki.
Hi...I guess we all have different ears...I was thinking the reverse lol .. was thinking 65 amp 35 mic as a softener but hey. He is a very good guitar delta blues player
That was amazing. The whole package is way beyond my budget, but that gives me a lot of ideas. I hadn’t heard of those pickups. I’ve got a Gretsch resonator that I like, so I might add that pickup. The wireless headphones are nice too, but I’ll need to look into adding headphone output to my home built kit amps. I’ll have to check out your slide lessons. I don’t think I have enough time left to get good at it, but it might be fun trying! Thanks for all your hard work. I know this isn’t as easy as you make it look.
Great Lesson, Thank You 🙏🏻👊🏻🤘🏻
By far the best guitar channel at youtube!
Gosh- you cover everything. Thank you
Love these videos!!!
Friggin awesome Justin
Masterclass... Subscribed..!!!
Great tone with the Reso.
Amazing content dude!
You're a scholar and a gentleman! Can't wait to get myself a resonator! 🤘
Aarr, the magic bit.
Thanks for sharing.
Great tips! very interesting!
Great information you are sharing. Thanks.
Loving that tone brother
I was considering putting a pickup on my resonator but didn’t want to cut a hole in it. These 12 Bar Blues pickups are perfect.
dude you're amazing! Thank you so much for giving us such a detailed and informative review of your setup which is dope! Love your stuff man. Keep it up. Just curios.. you didn't mention the sustain pedal on your pedal board. Whats that being used for?
Brilliant. Super SUPER helpful. All the techniques can be implemented with less expensive versions of each piece if you’re someone who is operating at a lower budget point. 😎👍👍
I just got a Lace USA ultra slim humbucker for my resonator since I've seen you use it and my god... I love it. They take overdrive and distortion super well and actually keep the resonator tone pretty well so it doesn't just sound like a regular electric.
Love watching your videos .
You could go anywhere in the world and never have to pay for anything as people would be spellbound by your playing .🎼
Wow. Great video, sir.
Inspirational!
Very interesting to see all this tech side 👍
Wow, I just got my Gretsch resonator yesterday and found your posting and now I’m grooving on breaking bad, deliverance, and all that! (lol)! Thanks Justin, I think!? You have a great speaking cadence by the way, very easy to follow, keep up the great work!!!
Thanks, this is a perfect lesson for me at this exact time. Ill be watching more soon. Good day
I have RMC's in my liberty resonator. Sounds great
Great video man. Super informative and well organized presentation of a lot of useful information. I feel like I should have paid you something for this one. By the way - Love watching you play and am playing a lot more slide because of it, eyeing my first resonator purchase. Thanks for making the sacrifices to pursue music, you are inspiring loads of people. Myself included. \m/
I love it when you do another video ..
Hi Justin. Have you ever considered coming down to New Zealand and whilst down here Australia ?? Geez If you did a summer tour here I am sure you would do really well.
Man you are a very smart player, I wish I have a tenth of your knowledge. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent tutorial Justin. I bought a Gretsch "Boxcar" rez, which i just love, and will try one of those pickups. Getting a cool tone is the easy part. Playing like you is not! Home recording is a great hobby for me and you threw in some great tips. Thanks!
Gretsch Boxcars rock!
Respect you and your wisdom
Really liked the 60 - 40 mix!
fantastic, remember me sounds of best dobro type vintage dobro....similar first johnny winter wit the old dobro vintage.thaks for this fantastic video and good music. You are one the best player of dobro very young...molto professionale e preciso.Accidenti che mostro
Great recording tips sir ! I am building a guitar right now ( ibenez electric ) I'm going to have the neck & bridge go out together - and then have a middle pick go out on a seperate 1/4" . this way I can record my playing - one line with my pedals and the other one clean .Then change around the clean line with different plugin's . This might be a cool live option also, with 2 different effects boards running at the same time
Wow🐍 the Great sound delta blues i love it
Cada dia me sorprendes mas!!!
Thanks . I got a Regal Tricone , no pickup . I’ve always wanted to power it up but didn’t know what to do . Transformer pedal , yeah I get it . Thanks again . O yeah one thing , I really enjoy listening to your music .
Love those heads, alien blue shiny toobs
Hi Justin. I like how you broke down the acoustic and electric tones. I love the duct tape. It is so neat to see you set up the recording. I liked the 60% mic 40% amp setting. HAVE YOU BEEN ON THE TURQUOISE TRAIL NEAR SANTA FE? *:-)*
He is crazy !!
Fukin awesome!
Justin, that guitar looks exactly like the 1937 Dobro Regal I used to have (confirmed from photos I sent to OMI in the 70s, which owned the name then). Regal made instruments for Monkey Wards among other retailers, and these had genuine Dobro resonators, of which many were left after the Dopyera brothers went TU.
My current slide guitar looks like it might be a Mosrite, into which I fitted a spiffy Beard reso. Sounds and plays nice, but with nothing like the Regal's raw, gutty sound -- and VOLUME. Another axe sold for ready cash and a lifetime of regret...
My mind is blown and as a non-player considering learning I now understand why none of the videos I find online demoing resonators ever have the meaty sound in the low notes that your music does. It took me several hours just to figure out I was supposed to be looking for resonators and not standard acoustics, then thought it was just different strings. Nope, it's not having an entire sound engineering setup for dual sound mixing haha. Dang~
Amidst all the madness there is this.... ❤❤❤❤
Very impressive 👏👍👍👍🙌🙌 💯💪
EHX Holy Grail is among THE best😎👍
What a great growl you've got going there😎👍
Thanks for these tips😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
Love brother
Hola amigo Envidio tu talento. un abrazo 😎
perfect
Excellent video, excellent playing. Maybe you can tell me how to create a “desolate” sound in recording dobro. I hope you know what I mean. You hear it sometimes in movies. Thanks.
What do you think about transductors piezzo ?
Damn bro,you sound like you know what your talking about....good lesson...
Yeah!
Came here researching ways to electrify my resonator and got much more.
He speaks!!!!
JJ 🌵 🌵 sweet sound my brother very delta blues most excellent 👍👍 do you ever use a voice box??
He speaks! Cool.
When U play it,,, **IT ALL SOUNDS GOOD!**
VERY GOOD - I AM NEW TO THE DOBRO FAMILY.
Dude
You make me want to play a resonator.
That was very informative. I recognize your guitar, I have one just like it, but not sanded. I believe it is a 1933 Regal guitar. Regal was kind of a copy of a more well known brand: Dobro. I'm just learning and this video was very inspiring. I paid over $1,000 for it for the guitar; I think it was worth it
Great vid, thank you! It looks like you are using bronze strings. How do you achieve such good string balance with the magnetic pickup?
this guy's a genius
Hey nice sound but do you Need to use nickel strings with the humbucker? Thanks regards
What thumb pick and slide is your favorite
Nice
Looks like a vintage Gretsch. NIce
I feel like I’ve just watched a magician reveal his secrets. Thanks for that great vid JJ!
What are the magnetic pickups models ?
Lovely! Thank You Kindly! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
I can't afford JD resonator just yet. Any opinions on Gold Tone Paul Beard line? Thanks!
Hi! Do you use an A/B box when doing this live?
I always wanted to play one of those.
Putrid Abomination me too. I just wish I could play as good as this guy on it
Check out the Gretsch "Boxcar" G9200. Built like a tank. All mahogany. Only $350...
@@PINEPUPPY Showed up here to say that. I played one at Guitar Center last week. Loved it!
@@PINEPUPPY straight up my guitar. Bought it awhile ago so it was like 420 bucks. Really good
Does the magnet pu preserve the sound of a resonator, or just turns it into an electric?
Got a crappy ozark resenator, and was wondering if I buy an acoustic preamp with built in di then cut into my resonator and fit it do you know if it will work or not? I'm not scared of cutting it as Preamp and jack will be on the outside and pick up inside the resonator
Do you run acoustic or electric strings for use with the added pickup?
I just purchased Justin's slide/fingerpicking guitar course. Now I can see what I've been doing wrong all these years! Btw, is he using gaffer tape to hold his thumb pick on?
What 12 Bar Blues pickup did you find that works best on your wood resonator, 3k, 4k, 5k, or 6k?
Hi Justin, what’s the name of the pickup?
I have my first resonator guitar. I need to know what string gauge to use. i need to know what tuning i should be in. I need to know what songs a beginner on this guitar should learn. I am sure i need many things i have not thought of as of yet. Any help would be most enjoyed by this unskilled learner. How to start out on my journey on the instrument would be most helpful.
What kind of strings are best to use with this kind of pickup? Are they nickel or bronze?
