Seriously. Who knew he'd become such a good dude? All we knew of was Rockstar Slash before this. He's really become the "elder statesman" of late. He seems like he's still a soft-spoken, regular azz dude even though we know he's one of the most well-known and identifiable musicians in the entire world!
@@J.C... - Same with Duff. I was in college when "appetite" came out, and once i saw Duff being interviewed i thought he'd be dead within 5 years. He's really an articulate and intelligent guy. I'm glad both got it together.
Yes, they were so messed up it was crazy. And always acting like douches bc they were so wasted and carefree. Now they're both two of the classiest dudes around.
Saw Slash with a version of the Blues Ball Band at a Guitar Show in London Docklands Arena back in the late 90s. I went both days so I could see them play twice. Was incredible! Just found out the audio from the gig is on UA-cam!
Enjoyed every minute of this! Well done John! The relaxed vibe of this is HARD to do. Well done....and the main man is just the coolest and the most relaxed and intelligent guy in the business.
Always loved Slash. You can tell how much he loves guitar. Even after so many years of rocking out, his enthusiasm and love for playing and gear is totally evident.
This was really cool, Amazing that Slash can go from an Arena level rig with wireless and in ears and all sorts to a proper old school board and amps all on cables and be quite happy to just play.
It’s always beautiful to see the wisdom and elegance that experienced individuals have. Blues was always about the soul and it’s beautiful to see slash (a hard rock powerhouse) mellow down and letting his soulful playing shine instead of the energetic rock n roll - which I love, but good to mix it up.
Living legend. GREAT interview too, Jon... Thanks for delving in on the equipment questions & specifics... It's like life-giving air to us guitar geeks😜🤣🎼🎵🎶🎸
I’m hoping that Slash tours with this band. Tash is an awesome front man for this particular band. I was 17 when Appetite came out and it changed my life. I’m so happy that Slash, Duff, Steven, Izzy and Axl survived those tumultuous years.
My sister introduced me to her friend Saul (Slash) back in 1980’s. He still worked at the Music store on Fairfax right above Melrose. And my sister took me over to his house. Such a cool guy! Later in life when I was in high school I went with a friend to The Troubadour to see Guns N’ Roses and left partially (temporarily) deaf! 😣 Axl’s voice! 😮😅
Meeting Slash story: Me and my buddy at 19yo went to see Velvet Revolver in Austin ‘05. Afterwards, a stage hand saw us and gave us 2 of Matt Sorum’s drum heads. He kinda whispered to us “they’re at the 4 Seasons” since he knew we wanted autographs. We went & alone, at the hotel bar was SLASH. We literally spent 20 minutes in the lobby working up the courage to talk to him. Around that time, I shit you not, Scott Weiland came in the lobby with leather pants, no shirt, and a towel over his head. He had security guards guiding him on both sides so we didn’t bother him as he went straight to the elevator with his people. Meanwhile an old couple saw our drum heads and asked if we wanted Matt to sign them. It was Matt Sorum’s parents and his MOM called him to come down from his room to sign “these nice young boys drums”. He begrudgingly woke up to do it and was super nice. Don’t know where Duff was probably in bed but we then make a move to talk to Slash at the bar. He welcomed us talked to us for around 20min and even got us a drink at our age lol. We talked about music and how he’s super into Radiohead. It was amazing for some young college kid fans and by far the nicest celebrity I’ve ever met. Signed my drum head with a skull/top hat. Just a down to earth dude!!
What a great memory for you, man! They say, you never want to meet your idols, because they can never live up to your expectations. Slash just seems different. I have seen GNR twice in the Slash/Duff reunion tour ('16 & '17), and once I saw him with Myles Kennedy promoting his first solo album back in 2010, before they really became a band. I never got to meet him though. I did meet Gilby Clarke once. He performed in my hometown years ago, and I got to talk to him for a few minutes and ask him about his time in GNR. He was cool. I would love to meet Slash one day outside of the music scene and just chat. I learned how to play guitar because of him.
It is WONDERFUL to listen to Slash, who has had massive success and who is revered - worshiped, even - by guitarists of every age, genre, and skill level speak with such humility. This man’s Mom raised him right.
Such a great Album , big fan of all your work slash but to me the orgy of the damned has absolutely reignited my love of playing jamming along to the album . Great interview as always Jon B

I loved his first record I love this record he’s always getting better and he’s always got a good ear for tone I hope his next solo album doesn’t take a decade and goes back to the hard rock sound
Well, considering he was surprised to see Slash with a Travis Bean and an explorer, two guitars he used on record on Illusions, I'd say he's right to treat him like he knows nothing.
Loving those M80 Super 59 Combos and the Scala Explorer. I’ve noticed that Leo doesn’t tend to relic the fingerboards, seems like a good compromise on the overall look of the guitar.

Happy that his blues rec workt out, hope they dont leave it with just the one. ❤
Love that he's doing pedal boards and trying other amps and such. Makes sense when he's playing blues and not the GN'R sound.
Love this back to basics approach...Slash is growing as a musician and having the time of his life!

The tech explaining the pedals as if John’s a CNN reporter
Apparently that one pedal is referred to as a tube "screamer"? Everybody catch that? Does anybody have experience using such a device?
with an artist like Slash, there is actual press to do with CNN and such. He might have gotten used to answer questions from non-guitar outlets.

Papa was a rolling stone is my fave track, especially when it kicks in half way through.

His grip strength has to be out of this world to be able to shred like he does with 11 gauge strings’ 😮
That phaser pedal + that playing sounded mega cool!
I wish I could like this videos 300x more.
Very nice! ❤
The orange tape is classic. I wear Rx glasses, don't know if Slash does, but working with them on and sweating, nice to know where the runway is.
Awesome! :)
Pretty Damn cool John!!
ACE!! Miss ya man…

I dig how he took the time to elaborate on what a TS9 is. 😁

In the 80's, I had a Kramer 8 string bass with an aluminum neck. Great bass, sounded very piano like.
