Wow what an adventure! I appreciate the details you show like clothing and kit. Always helps get ideas. Thanks for posting, enjoyed watching this tucked up in bed on a Sunday morning. Inspires me to start planning my next trip.
@@rosalind1048 Thanks Rosalind, I’m a teaching channel, showing you what to take and how to respond in challenging situations. What’s the scariest camping experience you’ve had?
@@OutdoorsmanDave I've camped in some pretty awful weather. But definitely my biggest fear is my tent getting torn in high winds and letting the rain in.
@@rosalind1048 true that, or being in it and the wind takes it over the edge. It’s why I put rocks on all of my pegs, I suspect Graham didn’t which is why his tent got flattened but next time I would take a standalone tent like my Radar, that’s not so reliant on tension from pole to pegs.
@@DougieMcGibbon Yes, as indicated in the video we came across it five years ago and we had always intended to come back and stay a night in it. I just don’t think people know it’s there, did you?
@@OutdoorsmanDave I did the TNC clockwise from Whakapapa at the start of the year using the huts, but it was always my intention to explore off the tourist track quite a bit at some point.
@@BlackshacksBushcraft It was, it’s just out of it, it was extremely extreme 😂 I mean when we went in there that evening it was just so quiet and calm, it’s amazing how quickly things can turn around in a few hours in the mountains. This however is what I love
@OAPAdventures Thanks for watching Pete, this was done April 2023, I’m just wading through my footage. I like to bring adventures to my community and Yes it was VERY cold due to 80-100km winds. Would you do it overnight in the snow?
@@OAPAdventures not sure if to take you seriously or not? it’s not a playbook I wish to play by, spending the few remaining years I have left in the outdoors just to entertain people I’ll never meet or that care for me beyond my next video 😊
It's always an adventure with Outdoorsman Dave and sleeping inside a volcano, is no exception, please like and comment, love to hear from you all.
I like these ones where you show your equipment and cooking. Looked like a miserable night. Glad the Rolling Stones weren’t playing!
@@NomadLifeKiwi Thanks, it was a challenging night, a test of making the right decision. We never change Mother Nature, we can only bend with her.

When you said "I dont think we're having a fire tonight" all I could think was, in a volcanic crater....I hope not! 😅
@kirsti7415 it would have been safe & nice but seriously, not a spec of tinder to be found. What did yo think, are you up for something similar?
Lovely place
@@AnupAdventures mysterious yes 👍
Really interesting place to camp!

@DougieMcGibbon On our return, we completely bypassed Otuere Hut, had an amazing little exploration
Great vid!!
@@joehiker8114 Thanks Joe
Crazy wind. I would have thought it would have been more sheltered inside the crater.

@@OutdoorsmanDave Sure. Camping in the snow, wet & cold rain is part of the misery camping playbook. Im in.
