That chef has one epic beard.
That's butcher i guess not chef
If a restaurant like that existed I would totally visit.
Next time you're traveling through Texas, stop on in
If you found a place like this restaurant with the steak I wonder if the same deal would be offered?
@@frankw3217 it sort of sounds like that King of the Hill got inspiration from this scene so I imagine yes they probably would.
They're everywhere, not just for steak either. Imagine Uncle Buck's pancakes. Yep.
Saylers on stark street in portland
Oh wow. Anyone else an 80’s kid that immediately went back to then when the music hit?
Dear God, If you give us back John Candy, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
We'll give u Justin Bieber anyway....though its more likely this would be a deal with the devil
God doesn't want him, why do you think he's here?
TheYoshidude20 how about giving back some originality?
TheYoshidude20 amen
The good Lord wanted some entertainment too lol!
John Candy did his own stunt work for this scene...
true story
there were no stunts lol
@@gavinhowell9120 It's not funny if i have to explain the joke...

This scene isn't complete till they get back to the cabin
Would have loved to see a steak eating competition between Candy, Farley and Belushi!
Jscottmoody he was talking about John Belushi who died in 1982 and Chris Farley who died in 1997.
Farley's dad weighed over 600 lbs when he died. He used to visit Chris in Chicago and they'd go to That Steak Joynt, long since closed, and they'd each order the Trencherman's Cut, which was something like 4 lbs of beef. Usually people would order it for the whole table.
I think about all the great movies John would have made had he not passed. This one is one of my favourites. Love his movies man.
What’s absolutely scary is back when this movie came out, no one even thought of something like this. Now, we have 120 pound women eating steaks like this whole. It’s just amazing to me. John Candy was always my favorite actor and I was so upset the day he died.I watch videos of him quite often on UA-cam and his movies whenever I can. I don’t think there will ever be anybody like him again in film. Because he was 100% that person in real life. There was no acting, it was just him.
120 pounds is light. You mean 220?
You left out the best part. Where they go back to the cabin and discovered raccoons had gotten into the trash. True to his part Dan points out something disgusting. "WOW! Look at the maggots on that meat!!!". There goes John's dinner.
The man was 300+lbs. Dan did him a favor making him puke that sucker up.
HOW IS HE ?
HES GOOD.. PROCESSING NICELY 😂😂😂🤣🤣💀💀
One of my favourite childhood movies. RIP John Candy. You are sorely missed.
1:05, this song plays in my head whenever I eat a steak.
Who else wants that steak!?
I would pay any extra fee to take that home with me once my belt snapped off.
Theres a 72 oz'r in Amarillo @ The Big Texan
It’s to big
If they let me season it myself and cook it myself sure. Otherwise I’ll pass. I’ve tried getting a steak from multiple different places and the taste can’t compare to how I season and do them up
@@How_Lay there was (don't know if still exists) a 220oz in a pub in UK. Challenge is 4 people (roughly 55oz each) 45 mins. I know a group of 6 who managed it and heard 3 did it (roughly 73oz each).
I barely managed a 24oz but the amount of extras was ridiculous.
Me. Although I wouldn't be cutting a steak that size to little pieces, I'd be tearing into it like a carnivorous animal 😂
I always thank my dad for showing me John Candy. Such an amazing actor and according to coworkers he was such a nice man and very humble.
I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid... I'm 29 this year. I miss the good ol' days rip John, sleep easy
You are truly missed my friend. RIP JOHN CANDY
John Candy and Dan Aykroyd are golden in this movie.
The part when he's clutching Roman's arm... HILARIOUS! John Candy was the best!!! :(
LOL The chef- "Bon Apetit!"
"Listen if I could get a dessert down him, think you could throw in a couple Paul Bunyan hats for the kids?"
LMAO
My favourite childhood film, as I got older all movies seemed to get progressively worse.
I don't know if it's because the 80's was a bit of a golden era or everyone feels like that about the films they watched as a child
Both. Studies have shown with music that your favorites will be from when you're 16 -17 yrs old and they give you that feeling.
Movies HAVE gotten worse. I can't remember the last funny movie I paid money to see...... Everything is some stupid comic book movie now, and those are STUPID and lack imagination. I just want someone in Hollywood to get a pair and come up with the next "Animal House","Caddyshack", or "Airplane".....but I fear that the PC crowd had sunk it's poisonous fangs into Hollywood so deeply that those days are long gone.
I wonder if they make those "I ate the 96er" shirts in any size smaller than double XL
You are guaranteed to be a XXL by the time you finish it
@@gemstonegynoid7475
Unless you have one godly metabolism
Watching these clips takes me back to my childhood
"THE OLD 96'r is a REAL STEAK in Amarillo, Texas !"
Michael Horn maybe I better go there some time
Yeah, it's at the Big Texan. I saw a video where a professional eater went there and ate 3! She horked em down in about 15 minutes!
Pappy Tron that's why it's at an everyday restaurant that serves people who may want to try it
Pappy Tron exactly. That's why regular people make a big deal out of it
That's "The Texas King", and it's actually only 72 ounces.
John Candy you really were a Jewel in the Hollywood crown. Rest in peace. xxx
It’s the time period and actors that make these older movies great, along with timeless familiar messages with a good moral to the story. But a big factor is also the Film & Cameras used then gave a magical feeling.
And directors/writers of course
LIPS AND ASSHOLES! What a great movie. One of John Hughes' more underrated writing efforts.
John's facial expression when he sees that steak is priceless lol
Anyone notice how the kids back then would look dressed in style now? And yes, I also miss John very much. Loved him in Splash too!
Six pounds of beef. Holy $#!%!!!
jediknight38 If he’s able to shit afterwards, which I highly doubt.
which many competitive eaters would have no problem with these days. I'm just a normal big guy and I can eat maybe 2 1/2 lbs if pressed. Those professionals can do upwards of 10 lbs.
@@eolsunder Not me. If I go anywhere close to at least 3 pounds, I 'm in the toilet. Head first.
2:48
That was my reaction to the knowledge some poor bastard would be subjected to that.
Ugh, just ugh. You're a beast, John! **salutes**
If this scene was from a movie today all the onlookers would have their cell phones out
Thanks for the laugh.
the triumphant horns when you see the steak hanging in the fridge 🤣😂🤣
1:57
"Couldn't the son just say, "Can I leave early? I'm supposed to be meeting someone"
I'd rather spend time with a cute girl than watch someone down a bunch of beef!
Yeah he could have said I have to meet somebody
Yeah. I guess it was integral to the plot for him to miss meeting the girl.
Because back in the day, families who went on vacations stayed together for the most part. You couldnt leave in the middle of eating out with the family.
11Stucat and there were no cell phones to text a person.
John Candy's facial expressions at 2:49 is comedy gold! Rest in peace, John. You are dearly missed.
"I ate a 96'er" Where is that shirt now?
+McGannahan Skjellyfetti Orange whip? Orange whip? 3 Orange whips.
John Candy Hi John!
John Candy It's in Rick Harrison's pawn shop!!!
You wanted $100 for it but the best he could do was $.25
How about the one that cabin manager wore that said "I've been to Duluth"
This movie scene started the food challenge craze.
There's a steak house in Portland that had a 72oz steak eat contest going back to 1955.
There have been food challenges at county fairs for over a century. The first to get national attention was Nathan's hot dog eating contest, starting in 1972.
@@Bobbnoxious only those that were in the loop knew about those challenges. For the rest of us, this was the scene that introduced us to it.
The chef's eyes when Roman points out the fat always gets me. Excellent example of implied direction.
His reaction to having to eat the grizzle and fat still cracks me up LOL
GOD, do I miss the 80s!!! RIP John and TY!!
back when they were filming Cool Runnings, my uncle got to meet John Candy, was told that John was the best person anyone could ever meet.
