I have a Kubota AT-70S tiller and the rear tine setup is very similar - a good visual start with this video.

Gonna tackle my 70’s Ariens tiller tomorrow. Great video. Thx.
Next time you sand the shaft with bearings in there, first stick a cloth with grease on it deep inside to keep steel, rust and sand away from the bearing.

I used a long drywall screw and barely tapped the metal seal ring. Then I gently pulled it out. I followed by using a dull screwdriver to remove the rubber that had come half way out when removing the metal ring.
No scratches no dings! It was much easier for me. I hope it will help you all.

Nice work with a dose of reality....those seals don't come out as easy as the maintenance manuals indicate.

I need to replace both original tine seals on my 1999 junior tiller and I am not looking forward to it. I am wondering though if a little MAP gas on the exterior of the seal cast housing would allow for expansion and easier removal of the old seals? Cool video Mr. Viar ;)

He's right about people not having an excuse to fix something their self anymore. UA-cam will not only tell you how, it will show you. You have heard some smart ass say, " what do you want me to do, draw you a picture?" Well not really, I would rather see a video with someone actually showing me how. When someone is asked why don't you just get the part and fix it yourself? I've heard them answer with "Cause I don't know how". Why don't they just say they don't want to get sweaty and dirty? Things are different now.

Drive a screw into the seal and use a dent puller.

Coat axles on both wheels and tines and check at every oil change and they'll slide right off !

Those are really good tillers if you add about 20 lbs. to the front of it. Helps the tines dig in better.

First one was difficult, but I got it out after about half an hour and 3 skinned knuckles (foolishly forgot to put my gloves back on at one point, just before it came loose). Second one was easy, once I knew what I had to do. I was able to get my screw driver inside and behind the outer rim of the seal, after making an opening. It helped that I had used some Blaster penetrating catalyst first, and let it soak overnight. Got the second one out in about 15 min. or less. Polished the shafts with some 180 grit open coat paper, and am now ready to install new seals and put everything back together. But I do have to have my neighbor weld the inner Tine Holder tine flange on the one side, which was loose, and the tines just spinning on the Holder Shaft. Looks like it was just a press-fit. I see no evidence that it had been welded on either Tine Holder.
I just oiled the new seal with #30 engine oil and slipped it on. It went on easy. Pushed it in with my hands as far as it would go, then using a wood block, I tapped it in lightly. No problem. Went right in.
I also made it easier by removing the hood over the tines first, so I could get to it easier.
