I love the Column shifter, reminds me of good old fashioned American automobiles. It's a good thing, and I would find it sad to see it go. Makes it also feel like the truck a Cadillac Escalade should be.
You got to be kidding me for wanting the column shift off. The new Escalade would lose its identity and be like every other car, which I don't want. If you want the shifter to be down there, go drive a Infiniti.
The Escalade is meant to carry large number of passengers and carry heavy loads of cargo. Plus the console space is much more when the shifter is above. You can't say the same for the GL unfortunately.
I got an H2 and it has the floor shifter, That takes up much more space than the Escalade. Thats why I like the column shifter. At the same time I love my H2 :D

Audi Man I like the 2013 platinums and there is no difference between fronts of the 2013 platinums and the new escalades. To me at least. Only thing I like about the new Escalade is the interior and its 420 Hp engine. :)
shifter is the only thing I dislike in Escalade ..... and you want a car to carry more people and luggage buy Kamaz..
MrCrazyPavel not a bad idea if you are in India or other countries. In America, I really don't think it would go through with the govt because their main concern is seat belts. Every passenger must have a seatbelt and contain multiple airbags.
Audi Man The "Rapper Generation" of these large SUV's are over. its so 2003 but they were good times. Trucks like the H2, Escalade, Range Rover, Navigator, G Wagon etc had its fame on the MTV.

I am not a fan of floor shifters is trucks and SUVs, however I have noticed that BMW and Mercedes use a more sleek column shifter that just kinda clicks in the direction of the gear you want. That might be a feasible option for a luxury SUV, but I still like the sturdy column shifter.
A column shifter is traditional but a floor shifter is more conventional and stylish than a 1978 Chevy pickup truck column shifter; however, GM is rumored to change that trend w/a floor column shifter in its next-generation, full-size SUVs.

Don't move the gear shift. It's what makes GM trucks, real trucks! I agree with the sunroof. A panoramic sunroof would be awesome!
No, no, no - DO NOT put a shifter on the floor. Fer crying out loud, it's not a make-believe stick shift for rappers. If you must shift manually, ask GM to put paddles on the wheel.
Shift on the floor comes off as more sturdy and luxury appearing
Reggie Walls Sorry Reggie, you lost me here. More sturdy and luxury? Why? Perhaps I am too old, but if you put a shifter on the floor, make it a proper manual, otherwise it is a waste of useful space, and trucks are supposed to be all about utility, no?
Reggie Walls No it doesn't. A Ford Fiesta gets a shifter on the floor. So do Nissans, and a whole host of cars.
Ford F ~150 the Cadillac srx which is what I have now has the shifter on the floor. completely changes the look put some wood grain on it just completely sets off the cabin. Everyone of course has their preference but a column shifter to me is associated with a 90's work truck for me not a luxury vehicle.

GM is highly under rated in my opinion.
I love the wood trim in the SUV, if u don't like it, don't buy it, but if I spend $80,000 dollars on it, it's gonna worth it for me.
''Cadillac'' especially Escallade's association to the Hip-Hop music genre (Videos, Songs etc.) over the last 20 - 25yrs has defined the brands COOL factor. That music genre made Cadillac cool to the 25 - 45yr old buyers. At a time when other GM products are not as highly regarded. Just look at the success of second generation CTS. Its no coincidence I own a 2010 CTS-4.
the denali has 90% of what the Cadillac has. mainly the cadilac doesnt have to be similar to the others so they go above and beyond in interior design

As for the column shift, although with the impressive new quality and no matter how hard it tries to differentiate itself from the tahoe, it is still based off the tahoe. And as long as police keep buying tahoes by the thousands, they will have column shift to keep the middle clear for equipment. One of the reasons police depts. love tahoes.
I just got a 2019 Escalade Platinum in November of last year and went to Mex and where my mom lives you have to go through mountains off Roading and it did awesome, the only thing is you got worry about the Rims

That is a very nice review. I am on your side for changing the location of the shifter, adding a panoramic sunroof and an executive seats on the back.

Have this car in red. But different inside color. Drives good, front seats are comfortable, the adaptive curse control really helps in traffic even when you live in la like myself. The main problems that I have is I wish it was more power full and it could have more room in the back seats. I had an Ford Excursion before this had a lot more room than this one does. And also I have taken it off roading really good car fun to drift around turns in the dirt and love to see people's reaction when they see an cadillac escalade do it.
Definitely made the call for the V super charged engine in the new model. Good call.
I agree the glass roof,executive seating,bigger wheels,and supercharged or turbo charged i will be interested in purchasing that type of suv.
The exterior is beautiful (minus the tail lights) but the inside looks more like a spaceship than a luxury vehicle.
Saw my first one yesterday as I was merging onto the highway and they wanted to speed up to tailgate me while I was trying to switch out of the exit only lane the merge lane merges onto. But it was black and the headlights looked very beautiful.

Yes, I have agreed with you. It's time to make a mega come back, America! Let's build the Cadillac brand to the top again. My father and my brother used to buy Cadillac back in the late 70's and early eighties. But what a lemon it was.
Merc and Lexus had came in dominated the market.
Sure, Make it lighter with interior par to the German brands. Give it a supercharged for one who like to have high horse power and torque.
I love the LED lights front and back on the new escalade. I have a Porsche street race car now and for last two decades with German cars but now with the new GM products I will buy the new Z06 vette on my shopping list. Perhaps a new escalade too..

A teen age elephant sitting at 6000Lbs, with solid rear axle and fake rear fold down seats, very low approach and departure angles, but over the elephant looks pretty good.

I totally agree with you man! I m a Cadillac fan but I'm disappointed a bit with this Cadillac. You want to compete with the Range Rover? Then step up your game people. This column shifter is so old school. And no paddle shifter available no 8 speed, very small open roof, no massage seats, etc. Please step up your products.
The Escalade is jewelry. Platinum Edition starts at $84k....

Beautiful SUV!
The Escalade still has top spot in large SUV category. Took it from the Lincoln Navigator at the start of the Luxury SUV craze, and then out classed the Land Rover. The Mercedes GL looks and is the same as every other Mercedes, same ol same ol,
Nothing like the Escalade, you will notice it a mile away.

J High Our pleasure. As for the Durango, while we used to feature Chrysler products on the show frequently, we currently don't work their brands that are controlled out of Auburn Hills. Are they going to make a 2015 escalade hybrid because we got the 2013 escalade hybrid and I think it was good for a big truck like that to be a hybrid

Nice Lux. SUV, but I think they really screwed up on the rear! I'd rather have the new Lincoln Navi.! It just looks better all the way around.

Sean Hartley Damn you're lucky. My dad is a huge Mitsubishi fanboy and it's a real huge waste. American cars have better interior quality and just generally look better in my opinion.
Why would you want the shifter on the cupholder come on now it's just the shift that's made right of the steering wheel you do better off to drive a Infiniti than complain about the Escalade. He shouldn't have said though it's just a fuckin vehicle get a life dude.

the last escalade i saw was 116st an 8th ave...
They should use the CT6's type of construction to reduce the weight dramatically. Maybe even use the same engine (3.0L twin-turbocharged V6; I personally wouldn't mind it. And get rid of that damn column shifter.
So which 2015 would you rather have?
A) Cadillac Escalade ESV
B) Ford Expedition EL
C) Chevy Suburban
D) GMC Yukon XL
E) Lincoln Navigator L
I agree the reason I won't buy an escalade is the column shifter I hate it must be old men designing this vehicle would be much more sportier with a floor shifter
I have an SRX and I haven't upgraded to the Escalade for that very reason: no panoramic moonroof.

The elongated LED taillights, look better on Cadillac's cars, and not there SUV's.. I liked the previous version better.... I don't know why.. I guess it's just preference.

what about a right hand drive version for some of us that live outside the US have you heard anything?...over here the options for large luxury SUV's is very limited to the Toyota Landcruiser 200series (that big Lexus I don't know its full name) and the Mercedes GL
I'm actually liking the new escalade! I absolutely hate the orange color interior though, yuck I've seen it on all tahoes I've looked at here lately. It's just horrendous. Stick to black or something. I credit them for trying different things, but orange? They should offer blues and reds and maybe even white. That would be an amazing find in a domestic.

It's called Tuscan I believe. It's kind of brownish orange-ish lmao. And yeah I'll agree orange is ok on average people cars like a Traverse or Malibu. But not an escalade.

its a burnt orange color actually and I'm viewing it on a retina macbook pro which is like almost as good as seeing it in person
Hey, I have an idea for the platinum trim. Get rid of the crappy tan headliner found in your 20K cars and put in an Alcantara headliner like every other luxury vehicle.
I love the truck but I do think the shifter and smallish sun roof has to go !

I agree with Motoman about the ridiculous column shifter. That thing is an eye sore and I've been looking since two generations for the change in position in column shifter and there was no change. Reason why I don't drive one. Sorry GM
It seems we are getting somewhere - on a related front . . . There is a rumor of a 10 Speed transmission coming to this platform. Again - repeat - rumor. I am going to see Cadillac's Chief Engineer in a week so I will beat him on it and see what I can drag out of him.
please do ask him on that. Even though its a 10 speed probably still utilize the column shifter in some form.

The trouble with the Escalade is that it has always been a glorified Chevy Suburban. That's all it is.
I bet it is not better than the all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator.
At least navigators 3rd row is usable, unlike escalade even in longer esv model, 3rd row is only good for 2 year old kids, and olny if they don't have legs. Believe me, I tried both trucks...

They didn't show any models with a DVDs in the headrests - just the one overhead you saw in the film. No real intel here, but if it goes they way of the previous model, the dual DVD set up will be in the Platinum.
MotoManTV cool that is what i am looking for the platium will look better inside/outside with features I expect. I seen that hennesy motors offering a package sport now also.

The shifter is located on the steering column because the SUV has a beefier transmission.
He forgot to ask for the shifter to be moved from the wheel to to the center console ;)

He left out the second generation. Which is the early 2000 ' s. The new escalade is the 4th generation not 3rd.
