for me to hear Jonathan Pacey sing for the last time for Voce 8 has brought to tears. in the background, i'm seen his fortunate replacement. many thanks Jonathan for your beautiful voice. thank you for the classy gentleman that you are. danke !
What a great way to farewell Jonathan! The Cornelius can come across as a tired old pot-boiler, but this is pure class. Lovely phrasing, understated and humble.
Angelic!🙏 and as a native german I'm always impressed by the very accurate pronounciation! E.g. the common word "Gold" which is pronounced so differently in the two language (the "L" sound) yet Jonathan manages it effortlessly!
What a gem! There's something so special about this piece, it makes my skin tingly when I hear it done well, and this made my skin tingle! It's so nice to hear Jonathan's voice as a soloist, he did a great job! And that last note was _so_ _beautiful!_ Nicely done!
In Germany (at least in the south of Germany), around the January 6th, groups of children disguised as the three kings that have visited baby jesus in his manger, are walking from house to house knocking at each door (or rather ringing the doorbell nowadays) to visit the families. They explain that they did come to collect some money for beneficial purposes (no worries, it is organized officially by the catholic church) and also in most cases sing one or two songs, mostly only the melody. We call these groups of children "Sternsinger" ("star singers"). When i was 18 years old, I joined such a group of "Sternsinger", who just did not stop perfoming this rite year after year, and everybody has become a young adult meanwhile. We were 5, the three kings and two servants and therefore could sing songs for 4-5 voices. "Drei Könige" by Corneilus was one of the ~30 songs we had in our repertoire, so I still know (20+ years later) the whole lyrics and each note of the tenor voice by heart. This video is a great reminder to these days. Thank's for that.
"... offer thine heart." Beautifully sung, and the last phrase melted mine, especially having sung this myself, in my own English translation. Heartfelt thanks for this sensitive rendering of my favorite Twelfth Night Carol.
You guys manage to make even Cornelius' kitsch to something noble and beautiful. Jonathan is singing so beautifully! I will miss him as a member of the group. I will never get fed up listening to Voces8!
The line between kitsch and beauty is sometimes very thin. What makes not to fall into kitsch? Perhaps sincerity and confidence. This piece is one of the few works that I too could have found kitsch, but which disarm me by what I perceive as their sincerity and their lack of fear of being labeled as kitsch. Other example : “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by John Rutter, a composer of whom I hate everything I’ve ever heard, except for this piece and two other works : “Hymn to the Creator of Light” and “Dormi Jesu”, that I absolutely love.
I have always enjoyed singing this wonderful Christmas motet, and this is a wonderful rendition. Now that I realise this is Jonathan Pacey's Schwanngesang, I am even more impressed.
Wonderful! I’ve been choral singing for almost 50 years, always loved this piece (Carols for Choirs book 1), but have never heard the German version before.
I have ever only heard the Cambridge Singers on their Christmas Night album sing this in English. Here comes a masterful German rendering. I am stupefied.
Jonathan bailing out? Sad! Beautiful work during your tenure. Nice to see and hear Eleanor. I wouldn't mind seeing V8 with a basso profundo who can also sing baritone, or vice versa. Just can't get enough of V8.
Almost certainly (& sounds like) the Ivor Atkins arr. familiar from Carols for Choirs I. It featured in this year's Carols from King's on BBC2 on Christmas Eve; NB that programme is not to be confused with the Festival of 9L&C broadcast live on the wireless, of which it is a sort of TV mash-down.
Such a beautiful voice, Johnny!!! We will miss you so much!!!...
Beautiful to hear Jonathan sing the lead and to see Eleonore again! ❤
We will miss you Jonny! Beautifully done♥️ Thank you and best wishes to you.
Brilliant, We will miss him greatly! He has a gorgeous voice and brains; a rare combination.
Is he no longer the Bass of the group…?
for me to hear Jonathan Pacey sing for the last time for Voce 8 has brought to tears. in the background, i'm seen his fortunate replacement. many thanks Jonathan for your beautiful voice. thank you for the classy gentleman that you are. danke !
Why is he leaving? What is the reason?
Das ist wundervoll!!! Sehr berührend und sehr gut gesungenes Deutsch! Perfekt! 😍 Danke für diesen grossen Genuss!
Congratulations on your German - and deeply felt interpretation of these beautiful words and melody.
I will miss Jonathan a lot!! My fav bass!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥺
Hitting the German perfectly what a treat 🥰
I will miss the beautiful voice, presence and satorial elegance of the gorgeous Mr Pacey.
So glad to finally see Mr. Bass in the front line... beautiful tone and that pronunciation OMG!
WAIT! I just read "former"? OMG! well, is not a good-bye Sir, it's a see you later
He does have a beautiful timbre!
Eindrucksvoll.
This is such a heartfelt interpretation! I love it! Thank you Jonathan!
Lovely to hear Jonathan sing this. Absolutely beautiful.
Wonderful. This has been my favourite Christmas song for decades. But this is the most beautifully sung version so far.
So wunderschön

The Bible states that the Magii visited Jesus in His family's own house, and Jesus may have been as old as two years of age.
Wonderful, I listen to you every day, we will all miss him very much❤️
Perfection.
Thank you all.
♥️

Wundervoll! Ganz lieben Dank für das Hochladen. Bleibt gesund!!!
Soooooo beautifully sung🥰
So much of your repertoire is music I love already, and your performances are always the very best.
The sopranos are absolutely exquisite in this piece!
I love how well the choir members speak foreign languages. It's not easy!
I can't stop watching and listening to this. Just so beautiful. Thank you Jonny
Very well done! Best of luck, Jonathan, in your future endeavors. I hope we see you in some guest appearances down the line, similar to Eleonore.
I have always enjoyed singing this wonderful Christmas motet, and this is a wonderful rendition. Now that I realise this is Jonathan Pacey's Schwanngesang, I am even more impressed.
Stunning in every way. Thank you so very much for bringing such joy to the world. Quite magnificent !
Former bass? Oh no, what a loss! Beautiful, Jonathan. You will be missed!

Perfect German pronunciation. GREAT!

Beautiful as always. Thanks for sharing Voces8.
So beautiful. Thank you so much.
Stunning! Luthien Brackett so happy to see you with this phenomenal group. Love you, friend!
Again a piece of vocal perfection - as usual, one must say
I have ever only heard the Cambridge Singers on their Christmas Night album sing this in English.

Wo ist hier der englische Akzent? Ich kann keinen hören.
Das sehe ich auch so! 👍

Nice!😁!!!
Perfect for celebrating the upcoming King's Day ., the 12th day of Christmas.
Thank you so much for this wonderful birthday present!
Can you tell me: Who wrote this wonderful arrangement and how can I get it?
Almost certainly (& sounds like) the Ivor Atkins arr. familiar from Carols for Choirs I. It featured in this year's Carols from King's on BBC2 on Christmas Eve; NB that programme is not to be confused with the Festival of 9L&C broadcast live on the wireless, of which it is a sort of TV mash-down.
Just curious, was Jonathan Pacey ever part of the Choir of Trinity College?
eLEOnore ✌🏻😇👍🏻
Blessed Epiphany!
I’ll miss the waistcoats…
Bravi!!
Not a fan of the honk at the end, but it’s absolutely gorgeous otherwise.
Former bass?? NOOOOO! Best of luck Jonathan but you will definitely be missed!
lovely choral sound, but soloist is over produced....
Yes, at about 1:05 the choir should soar, but his quality is outstanding, though a little loudly recorded.
"Former bass" I'm not crying you are 🥲 Best of luck to Jonny on his new journeys, and to Dominic at the beginning of his time in Voces8!
