Rob is definitely the right bassist for Metallica, and when I saw that he was auditioning for the job, I said immediately that he should get the job and probably will. And I was right LOL

Yeah, i feel the same way. I would love to have them play this followed by my friend of misery...sad but true is an amazing song, but its still not that angry and heavy as this one...the angry verse riff, this haunting intro riff and the solo....just perfect....

Robert with a pick is so weird. Im used to seeing him flick his fingers at 200mph. And Kirk's solo was on point and clean.
This song sounds much better with a pick imo, check out the previous video of the song they posted a couple weeks ago

That was what made the Black Album the titanic monster it is. Just like Black Sabbath, just like AC/DC, just like Pantera, just like Enter Sandman and Sad But True.
No bullshit, just heavy riffs given the space they need to breathe and flex and swagger.
“The God That Failed” is one of my top 3 favorite songs from The Black Album (alongside “Through the Never” and “My Friend of Misery”).
This is probably the best live version of TGTF that I’ve ever heard. I like the sound/mix of this performance
I also liked that Rob used a pick during this song.
Shoutout to Kirk, who nailed the solo and didn’t even have to use a wah pedal!
James’ vocals sounds pretty good too and he has a nice guitar tone here as well.

In my opinion, Metallica sounds much better when the bassist plays with a pick, not fingers. The overall sound is much clearer and heavier.
Because it’s the only way you can actually hear it. It cuts better through the mix this way but they should just turn it up so it can always be heard and let Robert decide whether to play with a pick or not in order to get the tone he wants.
