Rob is definitely the right bassist for Metallica, and when I saw that he was auditioning for the job, I said immediately that he should get the job and probably will. And I was right LOL

Yeah, i feel the same way. I would love to have them play this followed by my friend of misery...sad but true is an amazing song, but its still not that angry and heavy as this one...the angry verse riff, this haunting intro riff and the solo....just perfect....
I want Fixxxer, Suicide and Redemption, Minus Human, Mama Said, Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, Shoot Me Again, Purify, Of Wolf and Men, The Struggle Within, Don't Tread On Me, The Unforgiven 2, My Friend of Misery, and The Outlaw Torn.
@@jlf6458 He played a version uploaded a bit before this with his hands, though he may have switched to a pick in the middle, he played the intro with his fingers
“The God That Failed” is one of my top 3 favorite songs from The Black Album (alongside “Through the Never” and “My Friend of Misery”). This is probably the best live version of TGTF that I’ve ever heard. I like the sound/mix of this performance I also liked that Rob used a pick during this song. Shoutout to Kirk, who nailed the solo and didn’t even have to use a wah pedal! James’ vocals sounds pretty good too and he has a nice guitar tone here as well.
Kirk switched guitars during the song. At 1:45 or so, he is playing, judging by the headstock, what looks to be a Gibson Flying V. Then at about 2:28, he is playing a Jackson RRT.

That was what made the Black Album the titanic monster it is. Just like Black Sabbath, just like AC/DC, just like Pantera, just like Enter Sandman and Sad But True. No bullshit, just heavy riffs given the space they need to breathe and flex and swagger.
Because it’s the only way you can actually hear it. It cuts better through the mix this way but they should just turn it up so it can always be heard and let Robert decide whether to play with a pick or not in order to get the tone he wants.
As an ex-evangelical I used to listen to this song frequently. However, the older I get the more I can see that it is the hypocritical church that has failed to communicate the truth.

Rob using a pick, Kirk not using a Wah pedal... This is a combo that you don't see often 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
and kirk nailing a solo too

NO WAH!!!!
And just how cool his shoes are!!

Kirk actually did do a great job with that one.
He's wearing magic solo shoes

Robert Trujillo massive respect for staying true to the original composition and paying tribute to Jason's sound and playing style using a pick!
What a fantastic band. Over 30 years later and theyre still kicking ass like its 1988. Long live Metallica!

So happy to hear them play this, they should really rotate this song into the setlist instead of a Sad But True or something like that more often.
I agree with the first part but sad but true is just too good of a song imo to just leave out

This song in D sounds even more badass. But, sadly, I think that it means that for James is now more difficult than ever to reach high notes.
THat's because ur voice lowers with age so unless your training classically chances are you're going to have to downtune the songs
This was originally in D.
