I like this channel because in the Anglosphere, we rarely get any French history. I bought one “complete history of France”, but in the first sentence it dismissed all French history before the Revolution, of which I’ve learned enough already. I returned that crappy book, with its misleading title. There’s a lot more to French history than the last 200 years and I’m no interested in modern history, I already know what it’s like to live now!
"Elisabeth of Peace" seems such a sympathetic figure, just like her portrayal in Verdi's superb Opera Don Carlos. However, unlike the opera's plot, there appears to have been a genuine love and regard between Elisabeth and Philip, not always guaranteed in political matches. Thank you for the lovely and informative video, as always.
Well if she had to marry a man old enough to be her Dad, at least Philip II was a handsome older man and he wasn't as unhinged like his son- her first fiance- Carlos...
Philip was happy to marry someone he actually care enough. Also, hypothetical, if Mary had met Elizabeth of valois. She would be jealous. And if Edward hasn't died so young and married Elizabeth of valois. Who would be Philip wife ?
Henri II of France and Catherine de Medici had five daughters: Elisabeth (1545-68), Claude (1547-75), Marguerite (1553-1615) and twin daughters Jeanne and Victoire who died at birth in 1556. Elisabeth was the eldest daughter. Thanks just the same for your documentaries which are amped interesting and generally well-researched.
It's good to hear about a prosperous royal marriage. But it's painful she died so young. May her soul rest in peace. Royal girls had really tough lives, so much pressure to have male heirs. Thanks for sharing about her.
So often foreign princesses in marriage alliances are despised by the people of the country into which they are married. It's nice to learn of at least one where the foreign queen was loved by her adopted country.
Elizabeth had a traumatic childhood witnessing her father’s death. So sad she watched her mother suffer due to Henri II’s infidelity. Excellent video! Merci 🌸♥️!
Oh my god - 14 yr old & 33 yr old. 🙄🙄
Elizabeth's first pregnancy in 1560 resulted in a stillborn son. It was her first child and after that she gave birth to 5 daughters, amongst which her 2nd pregnancy resulted in twins
I love these videos. I watch certain ones over and over again. Thank you.
I genuinely can’t get over a 30+ year old man marrying and consummating a marriage to a fourteen year old.
Thank you so much. Glad someone finally had a happy marriage!
Very interesting to hear that Elisabet of Valois was so happy with Philip II of Spain! Mary I and Philip II had not so good luck. It was so sad that Elisabet died so young, 23 years old. But she was mourned by her husband which I thought was very nice. Thank you for telling about her life! 😊❤️
You always show interesting and relevant artwork😄
Awww it's so nice to hear that she had a nice marriage, I enjoyed all the information and details in your video, you do an amazing work, thank you so much
23! So young
