- Elisabeth of Habsburg, Archduchess of Austria was born on July 5, 1554 and died on January 22, 1592. She was born in Vienna, and became queen of France from 1571 to 1574 through her marriage to Charles IX of France.
Elisabeth was the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II and Mary of Austria, infanta of Spain and niece of King Philip II of Spain, thus she was a member of the Austrian branch of the House of Habsburg. During her reign as queen of France, she gave birth to a daughter, Marie-Elisabeth, who died at the age of 5. After the death of her husband, king Charles IX, Elisabeth returned to Austria where she died at the age of 37. She lived for three and a half years at the French court, which was dominated at that time by the Queen Mother Catherine de Medici, in a country divided by the Wars of Religion. Married to a man whose language she did not speak, she kept to her function as sovereign and royal wife, not favoring any party and playing no political role.

Very interesting. I think Elisabeth wasn't that unhappy. After all, she was aloud to refuse a second marriage twice, which wasn't the rule for princesses, and she led the life she wanted after her husband's death.
Glad you liked it. Thank you for watching and commenting !
Thank you very much for this video! The best one! I cannot say that Elizabeth of Austria was unhappy, though. She managed to keep her status quo. It would be wonderful to get to know about her family, mainly her siblings. Can’t wait for next videos!!! ❤️🙏
So glad you liked it Kateryna !
You can think of a single historical human being who was actually happy?
First! and wonderful video as always.
Thank you so very much !
I'd love to know how many papal dispensations were denied by popes over the years and the reasons why. They seem to be handing them out to anyone in a crown!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
The papal dispensations kill me. 🤣 A piece of paper means absolutely nothing regarding basic genetic compatibility.
Bear in mind this was several centuries before people knew what genes were. They genuinely believed that if they had the pope’s approval, they had god’s approval, and therefore nothing could go wrong
THE HABSBURGS…. the famous royal family for its imbreeding.. and Charles II of Spain ofc. Wonderful info as alwaysss !!! *virtual hugs* 💖✨☺️
Boo ! Boo ! We don't want you here.
@@lillineviellewasherelmao I'm serious. We hate you and your positive outlook.
Hello Sister ! What do you think about alternative history ?
@@savagedarksider oh god fictional history 😭😭
@@savagedarksider I think its ok ig. dont really have opinions!!
Fantastic as always 🎉! Elisabeth was beautiful & pious. Merci 🌸♥️
Thank you so very much Christine ! ❤🌻
Very interesting! It seems that Catherine de Médicis was very good for marginalizing her daughters in law (an even her sons, in that matter) in order to keep the power for herself.
Glad you liked it. Thank you for watching.
thanks you for doing my favorite Queen of France
no one in France knows her, she is totally forgotten
she was beautiful but also kind and very sweet with the people
Glad you liked it Lucas !
So interesting! Your videos just keep getting better, always so educational and inspiring to keep us learning about the past. Please continue to educate us!
Thank you very much for your kind compliment Michael !
I always found it fascinating the differences between the lives of fairy tale princesses like Cinderella and the real ones like Elisabeth. It seemed like the lives of real princesses never really were their own.
Fitting enough, the next queen of France, Louise of Lorraine, had a Cinderella-esque rise from lowly and ignored stepdaughter to queen consort.
Indeed they were not. And in most cases, there's no happy ever after either...
@@TheKingsofFrance Probably why they are called "fairy tales"
I would never choose the royal life.
Cinderella wasn't a princess. Well not in any of the variations I ever read or screen adaptations I saw.
A kind and pure soul for such a chaotic and troubled time. May her soul sing the praises of God before His throne. ❤️🔥
Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
Great video!! I would love a video about Catherine de Valois, who is the founder of the Tudor's dynasty. Please 🥺
I will be doing a video on her as she's a Valois, it'll be somewhere in the first semester of this year I think but I cannot make any promises yet...
@@TheKingsofFrance Oh don't worry. I enjoy all of your content so I don't mind if I have to wait. Have a nice day ☺️
Do you know, I finally recognized who Charles IX resembles! Shia Labeouf!
Lol oddly you're right (had to google Shia LaBeouf though)
One cannot change the past but it made me wonder how different her life would have turned out had she married into the Danish or Portuguese royal houses.
A good question, but as you said, it'll always remain unanswered unfortunately ! Thanks for watching !
Interesting video, I knew virtually nothing about Elizabeth.
Glad you liked it !

Glad you liked the video David, thanks for watching !
She certainly didn’t fit into the turbulent society in which she was born. Good for her😊
Thanks for watching Amy !
Ah, the Habsburgs infamous inbreeding.
I might be doing a video focussing on the habsburg inbreeding somewhere this year, but I need to. think about how I'll go about it, stay tuned for it though !
Wonderful video as always. Lovely lady.
Glad you liked it Jane ! Thanks for watching !
