  • Quick video for those of you that have a vintage Singer sewing machine and need the power cords to the machine and foot pedal repaired. I have repaired many of these cords and it's to the point that buying the wire and doing all the work just takes too long.
Stand by for the link will get it here by this afternoon.

You don't use your toe to operate the old pedal. Your foot rests on the raised edge and then you roll your foot onto the button pedal. That way your foot is always supported instead of having to keep your toe raised on the new pedals. It's just an individual preference. But that button isn't for a toe. It's for the ball of the foot and of course to be used with knee pedal on cabinets.

I find it easier to have most of my foot on the pedal so that my heel is on the rest and the foot gets rocked onto the power button. I feel so badly for all the people trying to operate it with their toe!!

@@BlacksPorsche986 thank you! I didn’t want to take something apart and mess it up 😉. I mean I still could but not first thing. The cord has some melted places.

Not only easier, but they run MUCH cooler. For someone who sews slowly, these don't heat up much at all. BUT---- keep in mind that electronics don't last forever. Keep your old style foot control just in case.

Yes, keep the old foot control, someday you may want to use the machine in a cabinet, and you'll need it. I will only use these if I get a bad foot controller and the wiring is dangerously worn-out cracking etc.

@@BlacksPorsche986 I have purchased the new cords. But again, save the plastic or bakelite connector. They sell for big bucks on ebay.

My newest machine is a Singer 401A. I need a power cord but the machines receptacle is 2 prongs not 3. I’m having a hard time finding any that aren’t for 3. Any suggestions?

I have a 1940 singer 66. The pedal wiring needs to be replaced. The foot pedal is a solid metal one. It is hardwired. Machine will run normal then slow. I believe it needs a new pedal. There is no 3 prong access in the machine. Would it be better to just get a new motor that has this access? I’m kind of a purist when it comes to the machines but safety is always first.

I have tossed many of the newer one piece replacement cords. Once they break, and they will from use, they cannot be repaired. The original Singer parts will last forever. Re- wiring is a better long term fix, well worth the effort. The carbon discs in the old controllers can be cleaned. Its not hard to do, there are videos demonstrating the process. I restore 6:03 old Singer machines and the designers and engineers knew what they were doing. That's why so many of them are still around. Modern controllers work well in these but don't be quick to discard the original equipment, it was designed to last a long time.
