  • Vintage sewing machine wiring is often in a poor condition. many times rewiring the machine is the only option.
In this video I share a tip i have discovered to help in the process.
Only carry out wiring on a vintage sewing machine if you are confident working with mains voltage wiring, if not, please contact a qualified electrical engineer.

Hubby says you are a genius with using the eyelets. Brilliant.

A brilliant way of solving a tricky rewiring problem, thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise,

Certainly an ingenious idea using the eyelets to crimp the conductors and they fit perfectly. Much neater than even if using non-insulated crimp ring connectors, and stacking them.

OMG! This is genius! I have this exact connector I'm trying to restore on a Pfaff 30. Off to buy some eyelets. Thank you so much!

I found your videos after purchasing a vintage Singer machine at a flea market, and one of the things I worried about was how I might get the electrical working again once the rest of the machine is cleaned up. I'm saving this video for future reference, thank you!

Brilliant idea! Already had the pliers and eyelets, but I've also already bought the soldering iron and accessories.😕 Oh well, I've always wanted to know how to solder.......😉

I've been using this old stationary tool for exactly this purpose. Best thing since sliced bread. Massive time saver. Especially if you don't have soldering equipment. Keep rocking 😎

It would be great if you did a video on how to install a lamp fitting on a 99K. My machine came without a lamp fitting and I’d love to install one. Love your videos.

I tin the ends of the wire and wrap it around a screw driver or use the curler on a wire stripping pliers. But I really like the neatness of this. So now I will do this and I will use brass ones so I can solder everything together for a super connection! Thanks for the tip!!!

Thank you for making this video! Can you provide the exact size of the eyelet you used? I have no soldering skills. This is such a clear and easy fix. Brilliant solution!

I'm not sure of the size I used - I have a selection and chose ones that would fit over the post screws.

What size wire do you use?
Best i can tell the original wire was about 18awg stranded.

This video was great! I just bought a Singer 66 and need to rewire it, but the wiring does not look like this (and I haven't found my configuration anywhere on the internet). The number is GO600208, which means it should be from 1924. I'm not sure if my motor and light were original but there are only two "terminals" not three and they are round (kind of like an old style audio plug. My machine also has a knee lever not a foot lever. Are you familiar with any of this?

    • @CurioByBSpokeDesigns
      @CurioByBSpokeDesigns  2 роки тому

I'm familiar with knee levers - essentially inside the case, where the accessory compartment usually is is the same mechanism as in a foot controller - it's just operated by the knee lever. I have seen terminals as you describe. They were not used here in the UK but were often found in American machines.

My 99 machine (circa 1948) is wired directly to the motor, no external plug to the machine. Would this be the same if I open the motor case?

What guage wire do you use? I just got a 1951 99k in a bentwood box, and one wire is damaged.

    What size are you eyelets?

    • @hawkinscsa

I'm getting ready to try 3/16" I believe these will be about the same size as the originals.

I've done all sorts of electronic and electrical repairs. I find them both easy and fun. BUT, if you don't know what your doing STOP.
It is possible to get hurt when dealing with 110-125 volts AC current.
