Dear god would I love to see Defenders in live action!
I hope he has a few hidden away
I’m saying
An under gunned, under powered, under staffed Chimera lead by thrawn.
....we have a chance at surviving. Slim, but a chance.
True but knowing thrawn he's extremely resourcful commander probably cobbled together a mini kyber enhanced turbo laser cannon that can do crippling damage to a a republic ship to be used against over confident new Republic commanders .
Prepare to meet your faith!
With the so much of the armor gone, he'd better hope he's got some really strong shields. If the main engines are still capable of generating usable power, they would be able to provide some extra juice for the shield system, at least if the X-Wing games are anything to go by.
I think it was generation tech who brought up that it takes almost all of a star destroyers power generation to hold itself in atmosphere so the fact the Chimera is handling it just fine the generator is working at full capacity
Under the command of Grand Admiral Thrawn, almost anything is as powerful as it gets, so long as his underlings don't forget their place!
Unfortunately dementia is common among his ranks.
So as far as the metal on the Chimaera, it may be Nyix, which is referenced in the Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy. Though Nyix is silver and this metal is more silvery gold.
I thought that too, at first I assumed that gold metal was just what was under the ISD's armor but it may be related to the gold bits in the Night Trooper's armor
@@josesanchezrodriguez1783could even be some kinda beskar type material
I love how the internet is full of people saying its an SSD just because they have zero sense of scale. Its a normal ImpStar 1.
ga SSD would be looking up and seeing basically a small city just... hovering there.
@singletona082 right?
I think it's just that we do rarely get this direct a comparison between people and ships bigger than the Millenium Falcon.
Disney has done a really good job at portraying just how massive ISDs are, so much that people get them confused with SSDs!
What I liked about the Chimera is that Thrawn had a point defense grid installed on the ship. Something other ISDs were sorely lacking. He kinda used it as a testing ground for some new tactics and weapons.
Not sure if someone brought it up already or not but, keep in mind that on both the imperial 1 and 2 class star destroyer's there are 2 of not 3 hangars in the launch bay. one bow, one stern and possibly a third but smaller bow sub hangar devoted solely to smaller craft such as fighters and bombers. We have only seen the stern hangar because that's thrawn's main mode of entering and exiting the chimera onto the spire platform and that's where he is loading his cargo so therefore that area has absorbed the majority of the attention and screen time when it comes to the chimera itself.
Is it battle ready, NO. All he has been doing is keeping i9t operational at a lower level. His whole intent here is to get back into the normal galaxy and thats it right now. When he get back he can correctly repair and rearm his SD if it be a 1 or 2 and then move forward. This is not a leap of faith or a hope he all ready knows he can based on what we have seen onscreen. They might not be able to build new SD's but nothing has told me that they can not repair or maintain a few as of yet. Thrawn is not a great military leader from tactics alone but he is one because he understand the most important aspect of military operations, logistics!
I wonder if Thrawn made some upgrades specifically for his needs
I would think it would be more intimidating if it was pronounced like "Executor" (official killing machine of the Emperor) than "Executor" (like Vader is the concierge of the Hotel Palpatine and will make sure your night is a pleasant one).
It’s pronounced the second way, Executor doesn’t mean someone that kills people thats an executioner.
I reckon thrawn when he gets back to the main galaxy will hide until he repairs his ship and gathered other forces.
In regards to the armament of the Chimera in Ahsoka: It's right there, you can see the Imperial-1 style dual turbolaser turrets, they are just facing to the sides.
Additionally another point you seem to miss, Rebels was very heavily stylized in certain aspects, but the intention is to portray the Star Destroyers as Imperial-class Star Destroyers, not some different predecessor class.
I think the most important thing to note is the condition of the two hangers we saw. Those hangers had the full complement of standard TIE Fighters that were being kept up-to-date and combat-ready. As shown in the final episode, we know there are pilots still aboard. As this video above suggests, I think it is quite reasonable to think Thrawn has some TIE Defenders in this SD ready to unleash.
My guess is he's waiting for better hardened and trained pilots in the Remnant to use them. So they are not wasted. Gods I want more live-action Star Wars like a Mando S4 or a new season of Ahsoka. Just to see how the Remnant (namely Palleon and if Gideon is still alive react to Thrawn's return) along with the New Republic (Hera has her evidence). But most of all, I just want to see some good ship battles. Part of me wonders if Thrawn won't use the Chimera as a usual SD, but more like a carrier. He'll keep the Chimera distant from the better and newer New Republic ships only bringing the SD in for a killing stroke.
The Chimera is in Ashoka right now a discount Ravager from Kotor 2.
Great point about the tie defender. I hope at least Captain Enoch has one
Honestly I’d prefer Thrawn to carve out a his Empire and help defeat an invading enemy forces from the outer reaches instead of bing all bad . I honestly don’t see him as dark in nature more dark grey
Agreed. He hitched his wagon to the Empire both because they seemed the most capible of doing what needed, and they alkigned with thrawn's worldviews. He exploited the nogri and he did exicute incompetence. However he did not exicute failure (even rewarding the crewman who had made an honest attempt at overcoming the problem of getting a lockon while dealing with chaff/debris rather than make excuses that it wasn't possible.)
Thrawn is a hard man, but he 8is not 'Evil.' At worst 'lawful evil' instead of 'lawful' in 'I make the rules and will remake them to suit me.' He is someoen that can be negociated and debated with.
A worthy advisary.
Yes the Chimera is damaged after here exile, but Thrawn hat nearly 10 years' time and all the resources on that planet to upgrade it. I also would bet he used that time to train all his troops to be elite soldiers.
Thank you for covering this!
Considering the ship can not hit 2 people riding AND its shots equal the power of minor grenades, i suspect the ship to instantly vaporize on contact with cpn tiwa's sight.
if you look more closely the chimera has the typical isd 1 turbolasers instead of the octuple ones we saw in rebels. The bridge comm tower design is also reminiscent of a imperial 2 instead of a 1.
Cant wait to see the imperial remnant new republic war
He's clearly got the Night Mother's magic at work. You can see their Dathomir symbol under his ship
its the the Dathomir symbol, thats just apart of the paint you see on the Chimera which has been there before thrawn was exiled.
The chimera is definitely my second favorite imperial star destroyer. I barely like the devastator more but that’s because it was lord Vader’s flagship before the executor but it’s just flag ships in general from sci-fi, and in Star Wars. It is definitely in my top 10.
It's almost like thrawn ressurected his starship after being badly damaged
We are all guessing of course, but the ship may not be on a "skeleton crew" per say. Magic may allow it to use all the guns if the casters are powerful enough. There could also be people that thrawn prioritized to keep alive like pilots for his defenders. It will be interesting to see who ends up guessing correctly.
Since his back to the original galaxy he will 100 percent improved his army weapons and armor especially getting his halted Tie defender project
My guess is that she would be very heavily damaged and repaired with Titanium and Tritanium hull patches. You mentioned gold! Well I don't believe that would be a good patching material. She packs probably a fair wing of fighters and troop transports and shuttle craft. Her armament might be half that of a Class one Stardestroyer - since he had been ostracized from the Imperial Empire. And basically when one of his main weaponry goes - any spare components would be scavenged from the damaged weapons themselves. He could stave off smaller warships but not a fully operational Stardestroyer of the Imperial Empire. He'll need one heck of a good Captain of Engineering to keep the ship up together. He'd have a fairly good fighting ship under him - but it would be one ship and since he's a bit of a loose cannon in the Imperial fleet, he'd be both feared and respected on both sides.
I never bought into the Chimera especially the ORIGINAL version which appears much later being a standard ISD-II.
It the flag ship for a GRAND ADMIRAL who thinks very much outside the box and would have the ability to either seize or request special upgrades for his ship.
Also he had the original Tie Defender squadron onboard.
The best way to tell the Imperial 1 and the Imperial 2 apart is the comm tower between the shield generators. The large X shaped one is the Imp 1. Whereas the bar shown in the shot @6:21 would designate it as being an Imp 2.
I think we need to think of the possibility that perhaps the main batteries were damaged during Grand Admiral Thrawns exile. Its very possible that it had the eight octuple turbo lasers like from SW Rebels. Just the same that its also very possible that, inline with current damage to the Chimera as seen with Ahsoka, the turbo lasers were damaged or destroyed and thus had to be replaced with turbo lasers that you would find on an Imperial 1 class star destroyer.
Is the thig on top of the bridge intended to be a tractor bean targeting array or a long lange communications array?
i'm willing to bet that the chimaera is far more functional than it looks, it would be perfectly in character for thrawn to keep that damaged exterior while repairing the weapons and internal systems so that people will underestimate it
7:00 The gold is most likely not gold as you say but its not what Thrawn found. It has to do w/ the magic as there is the same gold on the troopers some more than others. It all ties together but its not some alloy he mined out of the ground. Its a magical thread.
The primary difference between the imperial one and imperial Two is that the imperial Mark 2 sacrifices all point defense and anti-starfighter weaponry for Shear capital ship fire power
I can't get enough of ISD's!!!also,I noticed the left nozzle seems heavily damaged...
There is one thing I wanted to bring up back to Mando where the Doctor caught raiding a scrap yard full of ISDs the question is one why they were waiting unless the Doctor was given up to protect a smuggling operation that he the fall guy for so they can keep going
Idk man, those turbolasers that can supposedly hit moving starships kilometers away were having unable to hit some guys riding under it at a range of 200m or something.
A rainy day?? But it does not rain in space?
It be cool if the chimera if it ever goes to battle has the nightsisters repair the ship via magically using space debris to patch it better
I always loved the imperial ship design it's raw and speaks of power ,of course that's it's intent lol. now that it's bk in the main galaxy I'm sure it could be refitted I don't doubt for a moment the Admiral knows of still hidden bases and ship yards to do so and of course he will want a fleet or this could be an opportunity finally to canon the infamous "Eclipse" star destroyer hidden waiting and he knows where it is giving him a powerful command ship and edge against the republic. Ether way the producers know we love these ships lol bad guys or not we dam well love these iconic ships.
This Video is informative, Some of those letters seem backwards, has your alliance shifted to the sith? :)
I would say the Chimera is at about 50% battle readyness. It would prolly be able to take out 2 of the new republic warships
My favourite capital ship is the venator class
I would be surprised the Chimera would survive the jump to hyper space, even with the Space Ring in that shape.
What I want to know is how on earth hes fueled it for 10 years
With all three of its main engines out or offline, I'd be willing to be its hyperdrive no longer is functional, either. If, on the other hand, it has a cloaking device, I'd be taking advantage of that, and trying to find a way to repair the hyperdrive and engines.
Just RQ the new Star Wars Thrawn books is canon so we can use it, and it was a customized ISD1
6:11 The ISD 1 class in fact has the turbolasers very visible in that shot and they are clearly the double turbolasers of a 1 class
Here is a youtube video I recently uploaded featuring a closer view of the 1 class turbolasers I recreated in 3D.
ua-cam.com/video/77nyoQkb2_A/v-deo.html
I've based my design in various shots in recent SW films were the ISD 1 class is featured and we can have almost a close look at them and I can say it's a very close if not accurate design of it.
Btw, it's my main acc. This is my 2nd :)
Anyone else see the coitus going on when the tower connects to the star destroyer?
It's the Exxon Valdez from Water world.
God, I hate everything Filoni does to Thrawn. Legends was so much better. Shields on TIE Interceptors please.
Also, they are showing an Imperial II in the new show, just look at the structure over the bridge between the globes (I'm not starting the argument as to what the globes are). Imp I's have a taller structure with two horizontal sections connected by a crisscross (X shaped) structure. Imp II's have that lower structure with the single horizontal structure. I don't know what the show intends it to be, but that is what is visible on screen.
"This video is informative...!" Also, some of the letters appear reversed?
I wonder if Thrawn has any TIE Defenders left from Rebels...
Interesting to see a SD in such poor condition
8 x 8 = 32
What?
they're in a different galaxy. obviously they use different math. duh.
Its star wars math! Dont try to think about!
Star Wars: The Phantom Math@@resurrectedstarships
I really hope it has a secret weapon
Ask Mon Mothma
why does the rebels chimera have such a long fucking neck
well, the ship was unable to hit incredibly slow ground targets at point blank range, with the cannons doing nothing even with a near hit. It had no shiellds up during the jump scene (would have been hilarious if Ezra hit the shield and just slid off), Thrawn has lost every battle and was unable to detect an intruder onboard for the entirety of the journey home. Basically, the writing in SW is so bad, that it's all up to plot armor. It's going to be as powerful and scary or as weak and incompetent as the given scene requires, establlished powerlevels notwithstanding.
Depends on the plot
2:34
Actually, it’s *64
Effectively as strong or weak as plot armour requires
looking weak wen you are strong , is a legit tactic maybe its not wished to fully repair the ship as it would gather much more adversity
To me the Chimera will always be a Impstar-deuce.
it is a powerful of 3
You said it was the 'largest' it's not any larger than any other SD of it's class. The SSD is much larger still.
I said no such thing! :) PEACE
ir has the tractor beam targeting array of a II the I is that tall x shape the II case the more horizontal onetime other give away would be the guns forward of the superstructure they are missing from then II
Doesn't 8x8=64
*Chimaera
Have you been hacked? The changed channel name and chaotic uploads ceftainly seem suspicious...
Considering you couldn’t hit three people running along the ground I’d say pretty damn weak
That thumbnail is NSFW.
Pimp my ISD
Yeah I'm not really a fan of all the force magic shit in the show so far
With how corny Thrawn has been in this series, it wouldn't surprise me if it was made of glass with paper mache shields.
Powerless according to what we saw in Ahsoka. Couldn't even hit people moving like 40mph 200m away from it.....
What does Vader do? He executes jedi.
All I know is that it's certainly no match for THREE girl bosses.
Not interested in Legends material...
Star Wars Rebels was god awful in some of its designs. They butchered An akin, every single bit of him. Darth Vader's helmet looked stupid. The tower on the Star Destroyers were too long which was convenient in the one episode when they break the Blockade at Lothal and a Light Cruiser crashes into the tower of a Star Destroyer. Just awful
Imagine having so little regard for the visual language of your intellectual property that you let the artists for Rebels do that to Star Destroyers. What the absolute fuck is wrong with Disney.
IIRC the SDs in Rebels were based on concept art. Like how Zeb was the first concept of a Wookie
@@christophernemeth421 that's the thing though. The designs that end up not being shit are almost all really old concept art pieces from one guy. I think they thought that was the magic and then just blindly used the old art style with absolutely ZERO self awareness.
Ashoka plot is getting too dumb for me. So this one aged, rust bucket of a ship is going to reconquer the whole galaxy. 🙄 piss off.
Thrawn is supposed to be some tactical genius that is greater than then any Jedi. Ok but he didn’t do anything particularly brilliant at all. This is just beyond dumb. He has insufficient resources to do anything viable. Instead we have witches raising the dead. 🙄 of course the stupid ship will have a cloaking device and planet destroying weapon because . . . Reasons.
In contrast to raising the dead, the good guys continue to behave like morons. Hera’s court martial was a joke. Evidence of Morgan was everywhere when she ran over two X-Wings while exiting the system. Star wars always worked better fighting against the odds to resist the empire. Making the good guys consistently stupid at every turn like is just too much.
This ship will undergo repairs obviously and it's only a flagship
Since thrawn have made his escape
the joined forces of the imperial remnant and the resurrection of thousands of undead army by the three witches is the main force that thrawn will have. at his disposal.
Dave filoni is an idiot for making every characters disappointing and for writing dumb things in his show.
The chimera is nothing more than a chicken coup and Grand Admiral yawn 🥱 is a massive disappointment.
Another girl power strawas crap from the looser at Lucasfilm.
It’s the commander
Far too much Yadda Yadda Yadda.
Hey bud, get to the point in the thumbnail.
think we could all agree disney isnt cannon but really bad and expensive fan fiction
Do you really need the constantly playing thumping music?
