Excellent work ! My best Roman coin is precisely that : a perfectly preserved denarius of excellent style with both portraits of Antoninus Pius and the very young Marcus Aurelius as Caesar...Thank you again !
Just last year I managed to get my first sestertius and it happens to be from Marcus Aurelius' reign (minted in Rome around 172-173) so I was able to kill two birds with one stone! It's in fair condition and the reverse of him raising the figure of Italia is pretty faded/worn but the portrait is still captivating to look at nonetheless. Definitely one of my favorite emperors and someone I've tried to model myself after in appearance and personality. I of course have a copy of the Meditations and I've been trying to perfect the bearded philosopher look (I would love to rock a beard like Marcus's).
My very first coin purchase ever has just arrived in the mail - Marcus Aurelius, which on the reverse has him lifting Italia to her feet. As an Italian myself and a lover of Roman history and the 5 Good Emperors I had to choose this one. So glad I did!
You got me hooked. I picked up my second Roman ancient. This one a Marcus Aurelius Denarius. Unfortunately, is its slabbed by NGC and I have to agree with you that their cards with details of the coin are lacking. Just grade, emperor, 19 year range for the coin and denomination. Guess that is good for me since I used one of the reference sites you gave in another video and pinned it to a RIC III Marcus Aurelius 67. It is so much fun and a bit exciting doing research on the coin and trying to find out which variety it really is. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge so I can make informed purchases and have a good time hunting and attributing them.
I have a Denarius of his on the way. Marcus Aurelius is one of my few heroes. I am about to become an ancient coin collector. Thank you for the excellent broadcast.
One thing that's struck me about the Marcus Aurelius denarii made when he had a beard is now much he looks like the Canadian actor Donald Sutherland. Fine video as usual!
I have a Marcus Aurelius Sesterius minted in Rome year 171-2 with Roma seated in the mail, and I can't wait to see it. First "proper" (not counting smallest denomination bronzes) Roman coin I've sought out. Only other major pieces are an Egyptian Tetradrachm of Ptolemy II Philadelphus minted in Akko, and a Greek Diobol featuring Athena from Elaia pedigree Alex Malloy.
I just cleaned a denarius of Commodus today! Beautiful piece ended up in VF maybe XF condition. He does have those bulging eyes but not the right brain to rule for long!
3:45 she appears to have a snake behind her shield. In Virgils Aenied after the trojan priest Laocoon was going to give away the truth of the trojan horse Athena/Minerva sent snakes across the sea to kill him, afterwards they go back to the temple of Athena and hid beneath her shield.
Great video! I have a sestertia of Marcus as Caesar 148-149 ad, with Pietas on the reverse holding a scepter and stretching out her hand towards a child. I wear it as a pendant.

Meditations is a book people should read more in today's insane world.

Awesome! Did you use any chemicals or was it just a mechanical cleaning?
I've seen that globe symbol on many Roman coins. Did they understand that the earth is a sphere?
Yes even the Romans knew that the Earth wasn't flat

Hi! Will you make a video about biblical coins or coins mentioned in the bible? As usual superb video sir 🔥.
I have featured biblical coins on many of my videos. But you are right, its worth a dedicated video.
