Bro, most people love history because of wars, battles and stuff, and unfortunately not so many people interesting in Ancient/Medieval economics, laws, culture etc... Btw speaking about culture, dont forget many Roman statues were colored. ))
Absolutely fascinating. Coinage is one of those common threads of history that fascinates me, but I've never before seen them discussed in terms of social and legal effect.

There was a coin with a plant on it. A plant. It was a natural and very effective contraceptive, and added to any food it increased the tastiness a lot. It was very difficult to grow, so found only in the wild and overharvested. The last one when found was given as a gift to Nero, who ate it. Extinct. This is my favorite history channel by far, not only because it's highly informative but also for the visual representation, it makes the videos more entertaining as it depicts accurate scenarios and paraphernalia used at that time.
First time I'm ever seeing a video from this channel and I'm impressed. You folks have that classical documentary feel, like those good old days, but one which condenses so much information. I like what I see.

Hey guys! Great video. I can't imagine how much work it takes to create this content. Thanks for reminding us that this youtube channel is the result of blood, sweat and tears. Hope the Kickstarter pays off! Just know that I will help you as much as I can!
You guys are certainly my new favorite channel. I’ve joined your Patreon and although I can’t afford to go to the higher tiers I hope my support will alleviate some hardship for you.
Finally a suitable intelligent documentary made about ancient coins from the Romans great job hope to see more cultures and learn about their history of coins and money would be really cool if you made a video about ancient Greeks
I first came across this channel some months ago via Invicta. I've just now started watching it. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. This is such a top-notch channel.
You could also talk about how coins were used to spread a desired state or a pleading message for example a lot of third century coins have - the loyalty of the legions - on them at a time when the legions were notoriously unloyal. Would be interesting to see if you can talk about Third century coinage and then later the introduction of Christian symbols on coins.
Great video guys! We talked about late roman coins in class but never about their history and who the first people were to mint themselves on them etc. I'll be keeping this information in mind. It'll be useful for sure!
Forget production quality and all the attention to detail you gentleman are putting into these documentaries, just the chronology and fact by fact delivery of this information in story form is so captivating. I love consuming Roman history and connecting all the dots, but your little documentaries are revealing many deep topics that I never even thought about before. Thank you very much for these gems! Salve!
Salve amicus! That's great to hear Jorge, sometimes we wonder if the deep research and perfectionistic script-writing is worth our time and effort, but to some it is clearly luckily :)
This is awesome, team!! 👏 Unique focus on the propaganda & communication function of the currency - haven't seen that covered in detail before? Huge props not just to the reenactment & presentation group but also to whomever is producing the onscreen illustrations and graphics, which are wonderfully clear and helpful? Partcularly appreciate the highlighting of each feature discussed on the coins, which otherwise aren't always clear to a non-numismatist's eye. Hope Patreon, Kickstarter etc are allowing you to achieve your goals, and that YT recommendations may work better than usual (sigh) & allow you to keep growing your audience. You very much deserve it! Really love this presentation style, not at all bombastic as some material covering the Roman Empire can tend to be but both informative and enjoyable to watch. (And a great surprise ending there closing out the mini story-arc with the poor beggar! 😏)
Thanks a lot for all these great compliments Anna, I will share this with the other two guys to give them some better-late-than-never gratification for their hard work :P. And great to hear you noticed and enjoyed the little humoristic story-arc, we did particularly love making this part as well haha
I dont understand how your channel isnt growing faster... the algorythm seems to be pushing you down... I truly hope the best for you. The format is perfect if you ask me.
Ancient coinage are one of the most steadily avaliable artifacts that we ourselves can own. I love my Roman Coins, I have Greek and Carthaginian as well!
Thanks René, good to hear, we think it's one of the more interesting ones as well! Such a shame it doesn't get as many views as the more flashy topics :(
these lil state messages in coinage still come more or less subtly in some modern day coins. here in Chile the military junta back in the eighties minted a 10 pesos coin (a very common but small value coin) popularly called "little angels" (angelitos) which depicted a a winged woman breaking the chain of her shackled arms above her head. the coin said "republic of chile" and "liberty" but also it had in very very small roman numbers the date of the coup d'etat which overthrow the previous goverment.
Thanks! This is still part of an old batch of videos, the ones we're in the process of making now won't have any more subtitles, by popular demand haha
@@ImperiumRomanumYT look forward to the new content I found y’all’s channel on accident and I really like it. You guys do a very good job and it’s super professional as well.

In Ottoman empire, when a new sultan took the throne. He donated his Janissaries (professional army ) a sum of money which is called "cülus". This is almost identical to donativum practice in Roman Empire and probably was descended from it.
I'd bet on soldiers having the largest variety of coins, apart from maybe senators, but the latter had their own methods of gathering and spreading information, so they most likely didn't care.
