Have you tried gathering by machine stitching over the thread tails with a zigzag? Pull out out the bobbin and needle thread and hold them then use a wider long zigzag and stitch across them to form like a casing. Don’t backtack. Then you pull the thread tails to gather. Very strong and works great! You might even be able to skip the handstitched gather step.
I have to tell you, this is a great video and I’ll add ya hint for making all those pumpkin creases. Try a doll needle. They usually come two to a package. They are very sharp, very sturdy, and very long - about 7-8 inches long. Lots of good long needle to hold onto when stitching in and out the center. 🇺🇸
I love these! I have been crocheting some pumpkins, but I have some super cute fabric in mind for these ones. For a little extra something on my pumpkins I used cinnamon sticks for the stems.....smells so good.
Great tutorial, very clear instructions! I’ve been looking for a way to make fabric pumpkins that isn’t just a fabric circle stuffed & gathered at the top. Thanks for sharing 🎃
After making 8 pumpkins I discovered an easier way to make the grooves in the pumpkin with the embroidery thread. First I pass through the center 3-4 times before I start looping the thread over the pumpkin. This makes a little indent in the pumpkin pillow in the center. I also stitch in the button on the bottom of the pumpkin before I finish off with the embroidery thread. You can also make use of the extra embroidery thread (If you need to use another strand to finish etc)to make a loop to hang the pumpkin with but it depends on how much thread you have left over. Hope that makes sense.
My favorit gather method is to use a zig zag stitch over strong thread, leaving loose tails at each end. When ready pull that thread to gather easily. If the zig zag was long (not really wide) it might work with out the extra work.
I would like to give you a pointer on the thread when pulling the thread alway pull the bobbin thread that way the thread will not break as easy. Hope that helps . Thanks for all your videos
Wish I could send you a pic. I make fabric pumpkins but I use REAL pumpkin stems. My kids and I love looking for pumpkin stems. For the smalls, you can use gourd stems.
I'm new to sewing so would someone advise if 40 wt thread is NOT standard thread and a top stitch needle not necessary? I think a regular needle in the machine was used but confused. Thanks in advance!
I actually have a bag of walnut shells stored away to use for pin cushions, I hear that's a great filler. And you could definitely make a pin cushion out of this!

I too hate to sew anything by hand but this pumpkin project is fun to do! Thanks!
I suggest doing a stitch by hand with heavier thread - goes a lot faster, doesn't break and you can close the hole tighter. Half the time easily.
I am an OKIE TOO and darn proud yall!!
Cinnamon sticks work well for the stem, and they smell like fall.
I LOVE this idea!!!
Such an awesome idea! Thank you for the tip!
Such an amazing idea! Thank you
A suggestion: do the basting/gathering stitching BEFORE sewing the side seam. Then you don’t have to worry about catching the other end of the fabric.

This is so cute, and I love your needle book, is there a tutorial for that?

Would you please put a link for those little scissors you used? Thank you.
They are Tula Pink Ez snips
I know this is a year ago but I went through all the IG posts and didn't find a garland... is there a pic of that somewhere??
Can I make this a pin cushion.? I like big cushions. Is sand a requirement to keep the pins sharp? If so, how would I do this? Thanks. You're awesome

Upholstery thread works best
Can you please teach how to make gnomes?
Kalsoom Khan yes please the Scandinavian style where just the nose peeking out xxxx
If you pull the bobbin thread, it'll gather a lot better and easier.
Thank you!
