I made 2 of these today. One is made from one of my father-in-law’s shirts. I used the buttons and the pocket! He passed away in 2019. I gave that one to my husband!
Wow how times have changed! Jess was using cotton thread, universal needles and METAL zipper tape?!?! I like seeing how people started off vs how they have grown. We tend to think that UA-cam creators are perfect and they know what's best. But this goes to show that we all learn and grow from our experiences. ❤️
You are friggin amazing. I can't wait to make this. Guy sower here and really appreciate you spending the time on this video, very well done. Subscribed! Thanks for sharing this, great job!
You are a natural teacher. All the steps explained with no fru fru. Straight forward and simple but explicit. I really have enjoyed finding your channel.
I know it’s been five years since this video was made, but I just finished making my first box today. A couple of personal notes: my zipper was extra wide so I should’ve gone a little closer, and I should have used thinner or none in the pull tabs to make it easier for those with arthritis or big fingers…other than that it turned out perfect. Thank you so much for this.
I'm a diabetic. I take 2 insulins. These is a great idea. I can carry my meds. My insulin. bandaids, alcohol preps. And I can keep them separated and organized. Thank you Jess.❤
Jess, I really enjoy watching your tutorials. You explain every step and why you’re doing it and your lovely sunny nature is a joy to see! Thank you so much for giving us your time and expertise 🙏🏽🥰
I love your thorough instructions, and that you mention the seam allowances and stitch lengths...things that some other tutorials leave out! I'm going to try this as very soon, but since I've made a few other kinds of zipper bags I feel confident that it will turn out great!
I was asked to make zipper pouches. Somehow I got into BoxyPouchLand and of course, confused myself by watching too many videos. I took a break for a few hours to work on a quilt and then checked your playlist for a boxy pouch tutorial I knew I’d understand. 17 hours after starting down this detour, I finally understand. Closing the hole on the inside made my night/day/night. Thanks, Jess!
Hi, thank you for this latest tutorial. Just wanted to pass on a tip for you (ok 2 tips). First is to press a bag that has meltable components, use your hair dryer. Filling the cavity with the super hot air gives fantastic results (works for gathered sleeve heads too). The second tip is to have a small pair of hair straighteners next to the machine to press small cotton areas (even works for quilt seams). Hope this helps.
Your tutoring steps were vety organized. From materials needed measurements. Furthermore, i like the omission of sewing part. It saves the time of the viewers or students. Bravo.
Wow, you made my day with your tutorial. The best I have seen about these boxes with liner. I wasted half my day with no idea how to start my next project, to afraid it would be to vomplicated again. And you made me do it. Thanks for not speeding up and for talking about every detail on the way. I love it. You should get paid for it 😁❤️❤️🍀
I’ve only just found your channel and must say what a wonderful tutorial I recently made a boxy pouch by another designer and it was so time consuming and difficult whereas yours was so explanatory and very easy to understand and follow.
LOLOL it has been a busy week, getting ready for a market, I have made this bag for 40 yrs on and off, but thought I would relax and watch your tutorial, WELL>...I may have gotten to relaxed......I just made it and for the life of me I could not finish it, it just turned into a regular bag..........SO I thought what have I forgotten..........lolololol Well, I totally forgot NOT to sew the sides up. gosh, never too old to learn or refresh the process....lololo thank you.
Jess i just LOVE LOVEEEE your videos! I´m having an anxiety day and a hard time to get into my machine and your videos calm me down so much..... its better than meditation! You're are so awesome! Please never stop doing what you do, you make such a difference in so many lifes. Big kiss from Terceira island, Azores, Portugal ❤❤❤❤
I just made this bag and I have never made a bag like this before and your tutorial was so easy to follow and I loved how my bag turned out!! Thank you!
Holy Moly! I swear I've searched for a two-toned boxy bag for almost a year now and this is the missing tutorial that I've been dreaming of! Thanks for your wonderfully detailed walk-through! I love your channel... subscribed at first sight with alarm bell on and all! Please make more things! Thanks, Jess!
You have a new subscriber! I was not sure what to make for the men in my life as a Christmas gift....now I know! I would love for you to come up with some more ideas for gifts for men. Also LOVE your editing, just enough sewing/instruction.
Making these bags has become my happy place!!!! I was making myself dresses and I also crochet, but sewing these little bags...and I just started last week... this is making me 😆🥳 so giddy!!!
You are an excellent teacher. I just discovered your video and I will be making anything that you have on UA-cam as I’m a visual learner and struggle with written patterns. Thank you!
Thank you for doing the video tutorial for the Enhanced Boxy Bag; I'm a visual learner so I appreciate it. It's getting harder for me to find bags for my men. They banned me from using pinks/flowers. Thanks for doing the measurements. I love your energy!
Haha I have the same problem with the men in my life. They love what I make, just want it in neutral tones. I need to demo those colors on my channel more.
I WISHED I would have looked through all your videos before I attempted to make my own two tone boxy bag!!! But now that I’ve found yours, ima making it!!!! Thank you!!!!
I'm crazy addicted to your channel. Always something to learn and you presentation is spot on. I have to do EVERYTHING you demonstrate.. Thanx. From SA
I have to say your tutorial for this boxy bag is the best ! My grandson has requested me to make some for him & you are gonna make me look good...lol..Thank You!
Awww yay Cathy! These are great bags for the little ones. They can toss them around and put all the knick-knacks in them. Keep me updated on what you make!
Your tutorials are so good! I love that when you're showing the pieces to cut, you trace along the piece as you say the dimension. Sometimes it's hard to tell which side is which when the measurements are close, or if the whole piece isn't shown. I've used mesh adn elastic for bag pockets before, adn what I found works great is to cut the elastic a little bit shorter, then stretch it as I sew it on (with a zig zag). This helps snug the top of the pocket in just a bit to keep items more secure, but allows it to open fully still. I can't wait to make this enhanced bag!
I have watched several videos on how to make a boxy bag. Your video is by far the easiest I have tried. Thank you so much. Love your tutorials. Will check out the other tutorial you mentioned.
I am a new subscriber too ... love your videos... as a tip when you use the clips to “pin” fabrics together... if you use the clear side down it’s flatter and easier to sew with that clear side facing the sewing machine... I just find it easier.
Thankyou so much for a well explained boxy bag, lost my mojo at the minute and need to get back to it, so i will give this ago. Thanks from Jo in the UK 😊
@@OklaRoots well I got my sew jo back well maybe a little I managed 2 boxy bags and 2 flat bags, as I went wrong on them, I add a leather hand made label with rivets but put them to near the corners and the I couldn't box the corners 🤭 we learn by our our mistakes, I will try again and thanks again for a great video 😊
Thank you! Another fabulous tutorial. I have followed quite a few of yours now and absolutely love your style and clarity. Anyone else's I try to follow I am like dammmmm this is not Jessica!!! Thank you once again for being fabulous!
Thank you for the fantastic tutorial! Just made on for my mother to carry playing cards and nickels. I added D-rings on the zip tabs and a short strap.
I've made a lot of these boxy bags but I've been looking for a 2-tone one, so I'm really glad to have finally found it. Very well explained, thank you.
I have searched high and low for a pattern like this!!!! I am planning to make one ASAP!! Except I plan to add handles and to add D rings to my pull tabs to use as a small purse. THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING EVERYTHING SO WELL 🥰 I have lots of experience making bags, but I still like when steps are explained thoroughly!
ive been searching for a pouch/bag for my med bottles and this will work out perfectly... i do appreciate the who, what, when, where and whys in a tut... ive been dabbling with leather for about a yr and would like to incorporate fabric and machine sewing into my leather projects... tyfs
Another great tutorial. Thank you. I have two helpful hints for you. Get a silicone spatula to push against fabric edges for pressing. Saves fingers. Also, I put my Taylor’s ham inside the bags, all sizes, to iron against. I have also put on a silicone oven mitt for the hand going inside the bag to iron against. ❤
I made it! Yay. I have never made a bag like this. Thanks. My lining is too big, I guess I didn't measure correctly, I did make one pocket and that seems large as well. I didn't have fuseable fleece so next one I will try it as I do like the stiffer kind. I made mine with tree camoflag top and red canvas bottom. Thank you for your detailed and fun tutorial!
So I'm visiting Cali and started making your mini boxy bag. I have 17 to make before Dec 21st. Today I put 5 of them together and want to thank you for your easy Illustrated instructions. These will be great lil gifts for under the tree with a money cards to await the recipient on Christmas morning. I love watching your videos. I guess I've become one of your groupies...lol ;)
Love your tutorial ❤️ 😂🎉. My hands are now, very arthritic and don't obey my orders!! But Id like to try a larger one if possible. Do you have some measurements for larger sizes, by chance? Thx for your excellent video. Ive already made some awesome totes, so the plan is, to make a bag to go inside 😀 that matches.
I made finally circled back to give this version of a boxy bag a try. This is now my favorite pattern for this bag by far. The corners came out perfect and it holds its shape so well, the vinyl bottom also kinda elevates the whole look. I completely goofed and sewed one of my lining panels upside-down though 🤦♀️ whoops! Still turned out cute and my mother loves it so thats all that matters! Thanks so much for the tutorial! 😊
Having cut list in the drop down helps a lot. My cutting table is in a different room than the machines. Pause video and I have all the info I need. Could not figure out why bags were so flat..Haha. Did I box the bag? No . I was in such a hurry to see the finished product. Also discovered not to use zipper tabs to extend zipper length. Makes top stitching a bit of a challenge. Bags passed Cute test from sister and niece. Thanks again.
for the past 4 weeks I made 5 of these!! I started sewing about 2 months ago and this is my favorite pattern so far!! Thanks so much Jess!!!-the 2 smaller pockets are perfect for holding cards, and in the larger sole pocket I put my passwords and receipts and stamps and whatnot. I use it as a wallet. This is like the LeSportsac Rectangular but bigger. I also made a version with a skinny strap as a small crossbody-I used ribbon for the strap. I'm a beginner lol not that polished yet. I have to say the D U P B A G Y bags are still pretty darn cute. I will buy that! Very satisfied with the price!
This bag kicked my butt! I've made harder bags and I wasn't ever ever going to make another one. But I have too it's not going to beat me.
Oh no! Was it the vinyl? I know I have a hard time with the thick layers.
