3080 ti, 5900x. Has a good few fast framedrops, 60-80 fps for the most part on 1440p no dlss. The dlss seems to really smoothens the character details for me and nothing much else seems affected so i play without it. Just a quick comment about the general performance for anyone with similar specs. Edit: This is on ultra settings
Is that supposed to be good? That’s downright horrendous. For the specs you just listed I would’ve expected 130 average. I’m happy I’m staying at 1080p since I see 120 minimum in most games. I will switch when 1440p becomes the new 1080
@Luke never said it was good, im not really happy with it either. 4k is out of the question, the game feels is very poorly optimised. I was just describing the performance i get with my specs.
@@lukeX2m 60-80 fps on a 120hz monitor is more then good enough, it is perfect. In fact you would not notice the difference between 50 fps(on 100 hz) and 60 fps (on 120Hz) even if you compare the 2 next to each other. Your eye cannot keep up with 50 frames per second since it is smooth as it can be. Fact, your eye corrects the difference if there are any at that speed. what usually happens is that you see lag and blurring and you think you can solve the issue by increasing fps. Sometimes it helps sometimes it simply fails. It all has to do with making sure your hardware is working in sync. Don't expect to have a 120 fps on a 60 hrz monitor and not see lag. Keep the number 1 rule of 2+HZ per frame, and 50 fps locked is no different than more fps. BTW the only reason to go on a 1440p is if you are using a 32" monitor, lower than that 1080p is equally good. Even so, you will struggle to see the difference unless you stick your nose to the monitor since even a 32" cannot use well the real detail advantage of the 1440p.

@@FoxyFoxlyn I know, it's just something you don't see much anymore. I like it when games implement new ways to get rid of the hud. Getting sick of minimaps, healthbars, stamina bars, etc.
£50 sounds a lot but when I was at secondary school during the 80's and early 90's, PC games cost £40 (I remember paying that for the first Tomb Raider and Monkey Island). That's around £78 in today's money, so £50 is reasonable given that high street retail costs are a thing of the past.
I loved the original, it was so good. When I played DS 2 and had to go back onto the ship it gave me anxiety. I’ll probably pick this game up too. But your right, $50 is a bit steep to play a remake, I mean moders remake games for free.
Where's this heavily modded Dead Space overhaul or "remake"? I understand where you're coming from but in this example, there are little to no mods for the game. Plus, even games with loads of mods still often aren't a full complete overhaul, never mind a "remake". Typically just a clashing mish-mash from various authors that strips away the original vision. Some modders even have the cheek to charge for mods. Charging £50/70 (depending on the platform) is of course up for debate, but mac was incorrect "already got most of the voices". I belive they've remade everything including sounds.
No, modders are not "remaking the game" ;-) This game uses another engine - so it's a proper Remake. Don't mix it with a Remaster - same engine but better meshes (3D objects) and materials (textures + shaders for them). This one was recreated on another engine, so it's a real work! But still - nothing is stopping your from buying it on sale ;-)
As a software developer myself, I don't agree that the price is high, given the fact the game provides high quality, which is what we are paying for. Developing a quality software (or game) takes a huge amount of time and effort, so I am happy to reward the developers when the game delivers what it promised and they did a great job on that.
It doesn't provide enough quality to warrant being more expensive than original. Witcher 3 got free update that did basically the same thing as that 'remake' did not long ago.
Plenty of high quality games priced cheaper than this. They're crying about increasing costs of development why showing record profits. As a software developer, you don't get profit sharing so I would rethink your stance.
Good on you Mack. All these other reviewers churn out reviews in a day or so just for the sake of getting them out. I'm glad you don't, and if we have to wait for them, then so be it. When I finally get my PS5 which hopefully will be soon, this will be the FIRST game I'm getting. Admittedly never played the Dead Space franchise before, so I'm SUPER excited to play this one, because from what I've seen so far, it looks SO awesome.
I just beat the game last night... One of the things I see no reviewers talk about is the Marker itself... The screen distortion effects, visuals and insanely high quality audio effects are next level... I couldn't imagine playing that section while being stoned... 👁👄👁
So glad they did this right. They've kept the magic in it which the original had. The atmosphere in the original first Dead Space is incredible. Suspense and tension in bucket loads. Not only do many horror games lack that nowadays, but films too. Awesome review, and for once, it's great to NOT hear you ranting 😅 Definitely agree about your gripe on the price though. It should have and could have been the change that the games industry needs, where games go back to being the same price as they were many years back. I mean, the games of yesteryear are better and they cost less. Go figure... Also, if you have the original Dead Space on disc or steam etc, it would have been a lovely and thoughtful thing to do if you were able to get a huge discount for this new one. A thank you to the fans like. But nope. EA will be EA 😕🙄
For console players I recommend DS2 control layout. Use L1 for sprint. Turn on hold to sprint. It's a lot easier to sprint in all directions that way. Imo L1 should be the standard sprint button. Not L3.
U don't have to wait that much. I reckon the game will be on a 30-50% sale in maybe 2-3 months. A majority of those who played the original will not pay 70€ for the remake, so the sale numbers will go down hard after the first month. They'll want to keep the cash flow steady, so they'll prefer to keep the game on sale. Same thing happened to Mass Effect Remake.
AAA companies can make good games, the real problem is lack of creativity. 10-20 years ago, they had to actually make quality games to get video games recognised as a true form of art. Now they’ve just gotten lazy. Every once in a while you get a great, original game but few and far between. Goes for Movies, music and other forms of entertainment. So that’s why we get so many remakes and re-releases. Lost count of how many LOTR’s movies I have on every sort of disc! Done to this quality though and old enough to merit a remake, then I will never say no to a remake like this, but price tag is bit high. Then again some team had to create this and put hard work into it and made it look gorgeous, so why not charge full price for a “new” game? Just playing devils advocate though, price is still too high And to anyone reading this right at the very bottom of the wall of text… thank you mo chara :)
I’m glad this classic game re-make turned out great and EA didn’t find a way to screw it up. But what is sad is the fact that AAA developers are forced to go back and remake/remaster classics these days because they don’t have the ability or talent to create something like Dead Space on their own, even with all of the massive budgets. The golden era of gaming for me was from 1997 to about 2012 or so. Yes we’ve had some classics released in the last 10 years, but nothing like what we used to get back in the glory days.
I've been playing Doom 3, and it's so scary! It's got that atmosphere! So yea you're right Mack. I would recommend Doom 3! It's old but damn its old school fun
Doom 3 was great. I remember watching the opening game play video over and over before it was released being blown away. I’d like to see a remake of Prey 2006. Very underrated game in my opinion that used the Doom 3 engine.
@@igorthelight make sure you play the OG version of doom 3 where you have to choose between using your flashlight or gun. The "improved" later versions made it so you could always use both.
I’m so happy to get my hands back on the ripper! It’s my favourite sci fi weapon in any game. Just shred them mofos up, from the feet to the face and back down again!
This game was remade from the ground up. Its not just a polish and resolution upgrade. They added sections, redesigned the map, added layers to all the enemies, the list goes on and on. This game is 100% worth full price. IMO.
It's a bit of a pain to play nowadays tbf. No port to modern console platforms, and the PC version is riddled with control issues. Those control issues are all _mostly_ fixable with light modding, but never 100%.
There's a plethora of better games to remake too, I liked DS1-even as someone who virtually never played horror game-but I sure as shit would've never wanted a remake of it
I don't think it's the most unnecessary remake that came out, it does look remarkably nicer which is something a remaster wouldn't be able to do. There's some interesting changes to that change it up enough, it's mostly 1 to 1 but also not too. If you have the original thought, it's not worth amount even with the changes because the original holds up very nicely.
I felt the price was fair for what the game offers. I best the OG three times in a week and a half back in middle school when it came out, absolutely loved it. I remember it was everything I wanted Resident Evil 4 to be, and that game itself is phenomenal. The remake keeps the spirit of the original game intact but steps everything up. The visuals and the switch to the new engine, the side characters and lore, the weapon and upgrade systems, the replayabilty with the alternate ending and impossible mode rewards. When you consider all the work and effort that went into it I think it's worth the cost of a new game. If you would have told me I'd say that about an EA game before playing the remake, i would have laughed at you. New dead space delivers
My one problem with these is the same problem I have with Hollywood. REMAKES REMAKES REMAKES - while I get it there are some differences... it's still the same shit just repurposed again
@@spandel100 Good for you. I'd have preferred a new game in the franchise rather than a remake but to each their own, I'm sure you'll have a blast at the next Disney live action movie remake.
5:40 Totally agree, but the worst part is the studios nowadays has developed this mentality were they believe doing a remake of an old popular game will guarantee success. Feels like they are more dependant on hype built up before release and not worrying about the end result. Having that said, Dead Space Remake does the original justice. It is what a remake should be all about; polished/corrected flaws and QoL improvements. All in small, but adequate, amounts and straying too far from the original. A very delicate balance, something they've succeded with!
I never played the original but this looks epic! I will wait til it drops a few quid before I buy because I agree £50 is a bit much for a re-hash. But it does look cool. Now if they would only re-do Battlefield 2!
I laughed hard on the "3 guys on the floor" scare :DDDD And yes, I will wait for a discount. I have all the 3 games, played them multiple times, and I want to play this upgraded version as well but not on that price.
In regards to the £50 for a game comment. I think the culture in gaming has always been "buy on release" but for the past 3 or 4 years I've been waiting until they're on sale. People nowadays are used to getting everything instantly. Same day delivery swimming pools, Next day delivery tampons, porn at any place, anytime. We can't fault the market for making money of impatient people. Games will ALWAYS be inflated at release and its your choice if your willing to pay that price.
This us 1st game I've paid full price for in a LONG time... But Dead Space 1 and 2 are like my all time favorite games, and I never bought the originals new... I wanted the devs to get my money as a thank you for doing a remake justice...
Absolutely how a remake should be done. Remakes seemed to kick off after Halo CE got one, and for the most part they've been remakes of unnecessary games. This deserved one, and got the one it deserved. Now for republic commando and crimson skies.
I think they could justify the full price by the fact that people of today wouldn't have an itch to buy the old original version because its an old one, so they varnished it or so to say: "master copied" it to make it appealing for new folk to buy it. I totally understand that, but for us oldies in a way it doesn't feel justified to buy the "same" thing twice. I will wait for a sale, but for those who haven't played the original I think it is totally worth the full price. This is one of those games that just deserves to be bought and played because it. will. give. you. the fcking EXPERIENCE.
It's not a remaster. It's been remade from the ground up...stuff isn't even in the same place, layout of the ship is slightly different etc. To all intents and purposes it is a new game.

IMO just the three Dead Space games we got > the Dark Souls franchise. They are highly comparable but the atmosphere, tension, gameplay and even story is just another level, in my eyes! It's a damn shame we didn't get more from this franchise for so many years now.
Callisto looks brilliant on ps5 and never had a single glitch or bug with the game it ran and looked perfect from start to finish. Looked at a couple of reviews and comparing the graphics to callistos as well it looks a lot more dates compared to Callisto. Gaming was still in a good place in 2008. It started to go wrong from around 2010 onwards for me.
I agree. Seems like greed started overshadowing innovation around that time
Really wished you streamed the whole game Mack, stream was hilarious.
It was fun, he was shitting himself haha.
Only just completed the original! Can't wait to play this
That stream had me dying, especially in the morgue.
"Mack! Fuckin' FUEGOOOOOOO- *dies*"
"and that's why the neighbors phone the police on a regular basis"
LOL
Hearing Mack poop himself is glorious! Thank you, Mack. 🤣
50 is a lot isnt it. They don't even need to do marketing really as the original game did that. Thanks for letting us know there are other ways to get it.
Visual upgrade = make Nicole look 45.
🤣
And somehow they messed up the contrast, turning characters brown that werent before..
One of the best games of its time. Still holds up great now, I played the old one a year or so ago when nothing else was grabbing me at the time.
Awesome, spot on review as always Mack! Looks great but I ain’t paying $60 for a remake!!!
OG Johnston actually had a speaking part 1-2 times. His obvious speaking part is when you enable the damage report right before the attack.
We know why he got removed..
At least EA isn't doing what companies like Rockstar are doing with GTA remakes: removing the originals from sale, outsourcing the remake to some mobile phone company, get hammered by the media for a shitty remake, then release the original games as DLC for the remake at a jacked up price...
I just remembered your Doom 3 Mack and Mesh videos, legendary :)
@@jeffvella9765 tell that to people wit there 300hz refresh rate that cant play at 60fps.. lol i personly find it laughable.. anything over 60 is a + but its not game breaking so 4k 60 is fine.
jesus christ.
I have a 3080 and i7 10700 cpu play at 2k ultra settings dlss on quality mode and it’s on average sitting at 100fps lowest I’ve seen is 80 to 85 and I’m on chapter 5 now I’m not at all disappointed with performance this is a game made for current gen hardware I.e ps5 Xbox series x and pc so it’s going to push modern hardware pretty well I mean it does look incredible you don’t get those sorts of graphics without it putting some strain on high end graphics cards
I played the original when it came out on the PS3 and I must say one of the best games I've ever played!
One of my favorite memories is yelling at one my friends as we told him run at the beginning of the game
Yeah i'll wait for a sale for this one. Dead Space is one of those games that for me never needed a remake but i'm glad that it was done well if it did get a remake
I agree the price is way too high , but folks don't to hear it
For those who haven't experienced it,it is not. That is the market they are aiming at.
I love how the health bar is on your back and there is minimal hud.
That is exactly how the original was. At the time, it was an innovation.
Genius right? Those guys at Motive should get an award for such creativity!
@@FoxyFoxlyn I know, it's just something you don't see much anymore. I like it when games implement new ways to get rid of the hud. Getting sick of minimaps, healthbars, stamina bars, etc.
People loved it back then too and yet here is ubisoft cluttering your screen as if you are a pre schooler
@@Dragens2 I avoid Ubisoft games like the plague. Not touched one in years, and that’ll continue until I die lol
As someone who, for whatever reason, never played the OG, I’m stoked to give this a shot.
It’s always good to have tight linear experience. I’m fucking tired of boring open world checklist games.
100% agree with this. Sometimes open worlds are just pointless. Give us good gameplay and great levels and im happy with linear gameplay
£50 sounds a lot but when I was at secondary school during the 80's and early 90's, PC games cost £40 (I remember paying that for the first Tomb Raider and Monkey Island). That's around £78 in today's money, so £50 is reasonable given that high street retail costs are a thing of the past.
The scare at 2:24 LOOOOL
The panic translated to the mouse cursos was hilarious. Been there done that.
Why did they remove stache guy and replaced him with black chick?
Shhhh you’re not supposed to notice! If you notice you’re a racist dontchyaknow
They removed an unimportant character and added another, unimportant character with a couple of lines. It's not that deep.
Do you miss him ? Please tell us more about that amazing character.
To make Kotaku Urinalists happy.
No, modders are not "remaking the game" ;-)
This game uses another engine - so it's a proper Remake. Don't mix it with a Remaster - same engine but better meshes (3D objects) and materials (textures + shaders for them).
This one was recreated on another engine, so it's a real work! But still - nothing is stopping your from buying it on sale ;-)
This made my day, especially the part where you showed your Video off your stream 😂
I played the game 14 years ago, and while this does the game justice for sure, I am still gonna wait for a sale on this one.
same..apperently it seems to have performance issues 2.
Same. I try to avoid giving EA any money at all, but this one looks too good to pass. But I'll definitely wait for a sale
@@joeseabreeze anything over £25 for me is not really worth it. since i played the original before...£30 tops.
This one was a great review.
The scenes with no dialogue really hammered how atmospheric it is,
gun super punchy too.
I wouldn't mind 50 if they included the original trilogy in the bundle, but on its own it's a bit much, totally agree.
That replay made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that, Mack.
So glad they did this right. They've kept the magic in it which the original had. The atmosphere in the original first Dead Space is incredible. Suspense and tension in bucket loads. Not only do many horror games lack that nowadays, but films too.
Awesome review, and for once, it's great to NOT hear you ranting 😅
Definitely agree about your gripe on the price though.
"AHHHH -- F****ing hell!! It changes!!!"
I'm buying it based on this alone hahahaha
For console players I recommend DS2 control layout. Use L1 for sprint. Turn on hold to sprint. It's a lot easier to sprint in all directions that way. Imo L1 should be the standard sprint button. Not L3.
Lets go Mac! Thanks for all of your hard work
Won't be buying full price because, as you say, that RRP is ridiculous, but I look forward to buying/playing it 18-24 months from now.
Great review, Mack. Now I know what I want for my birthday
Just playing devils advocate though, price is still too high
And to anyone reading this right at the very bottom of the wall of text… thank you mo chara :)
Dead Space is WAY more scary!
Doom 3 is a shooter with elements of horror while Dead Space is a true horror.
@@igorthelight I wasn't comparing dude
Doom 3 was great. I remember watching the opening game play video over and over before it was released being blown away. I’d like to see a remake of Prey 2006. Very underrated game in my opinion that used the Doom 3 engine.
@@dirtysoul2178 +1 for Prey (2006)
@@igorthelight make sure you play the OG version of doom 3 where you have to choose between using your flashlight or gun. The "improved" later versions made it so you could always use both.
I’m so happy to get my hands back on the ripper! It’s my favourite sci fi weapon in any game. Just shred them mofos up, from the feet to the face and back down again!
This game was remade from the ground up. Its not just a polish and resolution upgrade. They added sections, redesigned the map, added layers to all the enemies, the list goes on and on. This game is 100% worth full price. IMO.
Interesting, but there are games from this time that needed a remake more than this did. DS1 aged pretty well
It's a bit of a pain to play nowadays tbf.
@@yewtewbstew547 wait what? control issues.. like what deadspace original runs fine in this day and age.
The stream was pure gold especially that moment 🤣
Good things come to those who wait, the price tag is ridiculous, but the game has landed on gamepass few weeks ago, playing it now, good fun.
No one is forcing you to watch or play theses remakes. Some of us enjoy updates of old favourites.
Yeah what he said 👆🏾
@@spandel100 Good for you.
Awesome review Mackie. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. When it goes on sale I'll be browning my pants as well.

I absolutely love watching you review a game that you thoroughly enjoyed playing! When Mac likes a game, you know it's damn good!
I never played the original but this looks epic! I will wait til it drops a few quid before I buy because I agree £50 is a bit much for a re-hash. But it does look cool. Now if they would only re-do Battlefield 2!
Now I need to go back and see what Mack said about The Last of Us re-remake (for 70)...
So satisfying to finally get to a tram station with that 1 healthbar left after you thought you where doing alright. Love the remake!
I laughed hard on the "3 guys on the floor" scare :DDDD
And yes, I will wait for a discount. I have all the 3 games, played them multiple times, and I want to play this upgraded version as well but not on that price.
Almost finished Calisto protocol. Which I'm enjoying. Got this one to play next. Looks good
In regards to the £50 for a game comment.
It's 80 bucks on PS5. So I'll wait for a sale.
Mack is going to have a field day with RE4 Re-make, I cant wait for that one.
5:50 That would make a perfect soundboard button.
This is one of those games that just deserves to be bought and played because
it. will. give. you. the fcking EXPERIENCE.
It's not a remaster. It's been remade from the ground up...stuff isn't even in the same place, layout of the ship is slightly different etc. To all intents and purposes it is a new game.
i expected EA to fuck this up somehow, but it looks great!
If only it was in first-person
That grafitti at 8:11 below "Beware! Traps ahead" you were staring at is Norwegian for "and if you fucking zombies have learned to read, you too can go to hell!"
my guess that toggle is for streamers because youtube and twitch has a tendency to strike people for gore fictional or otherwise
I'm with you on the price Mack. As much as I love the original game and so desperate to play this remake I will not pay almost £65 for the pleasure. Patiently waiting for a sale.
Omg Mack you're almost on 300k!! You were on about 250k when I found your channel back in maybe 2016, can't for the life of me work out why you haven't hit a million yet. Love the honest reviews, even the ones I don't entirely agree with :) Dead space, however, we can all agree is a fantastic banger from the golden age of gaming :p well done EA, plz go back to your awesome roots and stop churning out shite now.
In your breakdown at the end "your pants will go brown" followed by "runs very well" made me feel a bit queezy. Perhaps you should have had an option to blur this out for those with a sensitive disposition 😂
Bought it because of your recommendation. Never played the first. Love it. You are the best man.
"Your pants will go brown" "Runs very well" :)
I dont get it, its the same enemy at 1:54 as the one at 2:17?
Don't worry about it, not everyone gets things, am sure u will be fine.
Thanks Mack. Haven’t played Dead Space yet. Sounds like I’m gonna get it now. Thanks for giving me an honest opinion
Writing on the wall at 8:11 says "and if you damn zombies have learned to read then to hell with you too" :)
Ain't gonna lie. I happily pay 50 € for a good remake, because we don't get a lot of GOOD remakes.
Only problem I will admit about Callisto is it’s far too linear you can’t backtrack once you’ve passed into a new section
Pros - I really want to play it. Cons - I hate 3rd person view. So is it worth a buy? Let's hear the words, the words, of the Mac man
