    I must have said "exactly!" 15 times in this video. The physical therapy profession truly has evolved from the practice of saying "this is what went wrong" to our patients to "are you aware of what may have caused this?"

    Watching this video should be mandatory in all PT programs, and frankly, for every practicing PT. You perfectly articulate the concepts, and provide simple, yet effective guidance for clinicians and clients. Utterly amazing work.

    I'm not into social media but this is one of the upside of it, Thank you for sharing this kind of content to the public. I highly agreed with these kind of principle. I've been dealing with stubborn pain on my lower extremity and by doing too much and being impatient. I'm dealing with it until now for almost a year.

    The most important video you've made by far but will probably be you're least watched. Why?
    I believe that Mistake 1 and 2 people (like me), are so baffled by their symptoms, expectations and online content, that we ignore common sense and don't recognise that we're doing anything wrong at all. We're often doing what we've always done without taking into account that we're older (and/or more stressed than when we were eighteen) and recovery takes a bit longer.
    I now realise that by resting, reassessing and adjusting, the dis-ease will heal but we must listen to what its telling us and be patient.
    Maybe in the pause we'll see that being kind to our body as opposed to viewing it as broken and uncooperative fills us with a strange peace we haven't felt in a while. Perhaps we may even recognise that the best way to health and healing might be approaching movement with joy and seeing it as play (like we did when we were kids) as opposed to the masochism of "getting after it" day after day, year on year. I think its just that simple.
    "We don't stop playing because we get old. We get old because we stop playing."
    Thank you E3.

    This is great, what is the role of biomechanics for rehabilitation? For example, what are your thoughts on improving how a person moves by allowing more ROM and more movement variability with the intention to distribute loads more evenly and reduce the repetitive stress an area might experience?

    Brilliant video, very high quality channel. Superb. One thing I'd ask about: warnings about medical intervention. I think if we, say, go to a podiatrist for foot pain, they'll perhaps give us an orthotic as a solution (I had this happen, he literally told me - 'never go barefoot; your arches are too high'). How do we know when it's right to listen to medical care vs. simply allowing time, patience, and conditioning to fix things. The minimalist shoe revolution is relevant here. Is it, ultimately, the ideal? If so, I'm content to take however many months or years to get there. Or do I need to be realistic and say "given my age, it's unrealistic to spend X years moving toward a minimalist shoe, therefore go with an orthotic." I greatly prefer staying as natural as possible and letting my body adapt instead of reaching for technology and credit cards as solutions.

    • @DavidBertossi
      @DavidBertossi Рік тому

      My arches are very high and i always go barefoot no problem, it is the shoes that restrict foot motion that are the issue for me.

    Thank you very much. This is the kind of video that REALLY everyone should know, because as you said pain isn't really something terrible, but part of the rehab process. I always thought I had to avoid pain because if I hadn't I would injure myself. But as you perfectly demonstrated, pain is just an indicator that you may be doing too much to soon. But It isn't bad, it's a guide to progressively load more over time.
    I still have a question: Does pain monitoring also apply if you're not in rehab. Let's say I progressively play more basketball over time, but at one point during training I get pain but not the day afterwards. Is this still an indication that I may be doing to much or that I shouldn't be loading more on a week to week basis?

    Nice RGB 😁 By the way, any tips for low back pain that occurs only during standing? I had a vacation recently where the queueing and slow walking in museums caused me a bunch of back ache but if I were to walk for a similar period of time I wouldn't get back ache.

      I'd follow the general principles in this video (modify/reduce standing temporarily as needed). We have an upcoming video that will discuss the topic a bit.

    The sad thing is that this is an art, as you say. I broke my tibia months ago, it didn't heal in the 4 months I had the plaster, so they took it off and suddenly, as I started to use that leg, everything got better. But still, they took it off mid january, and I still don't know if it's alright. I do some squats (I tried with 30kg, 12 reps last time), but the symptoms got a little bit annoying, and I do not know how to manage that exactly. I don't feel that much pain, but I lost a ton of flexibility in both my knee and ankle (the knee almost fully recovered, the ankle a more in the annoying side). I feel strong with that leg, but I still don't know if it healed properly.
