    Very many thanks. I was born and grew up in Western Uganda where people can eat banana three times/meals a day 365 days/year. I am now intrigued that the banana flower we've always cut and thrown away can also be eaten. Not sure how my people will react when they see me preparing the flower for a meal BUT I'M IMPRESSED will try to make some thing out. Many thanks for the elaborate explanation.

    Nicely explained 🏆 thank you.tried cooking as per the cleaning procedure mentioned.. felt little bitter taste how avoid this?we need to discard bottom portion of florets ah?

    • @cookingflavors
      @cookingflavors  7 років тому +1

      Thank you for your appreciation and compliments. You can also try adding some salt to the water along with the curd. I've also read that adding it in some lemon juice removes some bitterness. But I haven't personally tried it. If you try it, do let me know.
      Vazhaipoo is best eaten with its bitter taste. All the nutrition comes from the bitterness I feel.

    That was neat and well explained. I tend to arrange the florets in sets. When removing the Kallan (stigma) I collect them in bunch and gently squash the top reveal them all at once. Yet to get comfortable at this but certainly worth the while.

    I tried everything the way it is mentioned in the video...only thing I missed keeping the peeled banana flower in Buttermilk as I thought I am using it now so need to do this step. Is this is the reason my curry tasted bitter?

    • @cookingflavors
      @cookingflavors  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Aditii, the buttermilk prevents the cut flower from getting discolored. It will only take away the bitterness a little. The nutrients and the health aspect comes from the bitterness. Its good to eat it that way.
      Thanks for watching. Happy cooking and stay safe !!

      No it will not blacken. But make sure to chop it only just before cooking it. Thank you for watching. Subscribe to our channel and share our videos with your friends 😊

    Well explained. But instead of taking out each one separately, it could have been advised to be taken as a bunch. I used to do it like that. Thank u.

    Hi how do you make a tea out of it my iron level is low and I would like to know how can I make this as a drink or can I eat a certain part .

    • @cookingflavors
      @cookingflavors  5 років тому

      Hi Caira thanks for watching our videos 😊 I'm afraid making a tea out of it is gonna make it very very bitter... So you can just make a stir fry out of it. Watch the video till the end, so that you will know which is the edible part... Will try posting some recipes with this. But if your in urgent need, you can search for recipes with the following names.
      Vazhaipoo Poriyal
      Vazhaipoo Kootu
      Vazhaipoo Vadai.
      You can also include brinjals or egg plant and curry leaves in your diet to help with your iron levels. 👍 Thanks 😊

    Hi I tried it but it is bitter after cooking, can you please suggest me a tip how can I overcome the bitterness. Even i cooked it immediately after opening it

    • @cookingflavors
      @cookingflavors  5 років тому

      Hi, the bitterness cannot be removed completely. All the nutrition comes from the bitterness. Maybe you can add some grated coconut to the dish to reduce the bitterness. Add some coconut that is sweet. 👍

    I have seen other video's that show you can eat the entire flower and chop it up and eat it raw or cooked. Not sure what to do and don't want to poison myself. :-) Just not sure when the appropriate time to cut the flower off from the banana's. I have a bunch of the mini banana's in my backyard in south florida. Thanks.

    • @cookingflavors
      @cookingflavors  7 років тому

      Nope you can't eat the entire flower. The front petal and the mid-stem needs to be removed as shown in the video. They are not edible.
      Am not sure about the harvesting of the flower. I've shared a link below. Maybe that can help you. Goodluck. Subscribe to our channel and happy cooking !!

    dear madam, we are residing in Dubai and tried many times vazhaipoo poriyal & kootu by following the same procedure of removing stems/petals and kept in the buttermilk and washed many times-but we always get the poriyal/kootu with bitter taste and got disappointed due to which we have discarded such food many times without consuming-due to this bitter taste, we stopped the recipe since long time-could you please advise the remedy to get successful bitterless recipe as we love banana flower being a healthy food-is it necessary to check the flower while taking from markets (OR) any flower can work if any best method is followed-thanks in advance for the solution

    • @cookingflavors

      Thank you for watching our channel. You can try adding some salt to the water along with the curd. I've also read that adding it in some lemon juice removes some bitterness. But I haven't personally tried it. If you try it, do let me know.
      Vazhaipoo is best eaten with its bitter taste. All the nutrition comes from the bitterness I feel. In the poriyal try adding some grated coconut that is nice and sweet. Probably that will balance the bitterness a little.
