I was born in 1952. My Irish grandmother always ironed all of her washed sheets. She had five beds to do and did this every week so she staggered them. She also ironed tablecloths and all the outer clothing. Her evenings were spent doing this. I felt she was working to hard but she enjoyed it. She also before bed, set out a beautiful table for a big breakfast and got out all her pans, utensils, and supplies to do this. I loved staying overnight there. I felt so loved and cared for and anticipated the next day with happiness. Wonderful memories. She lived to be 98.
I am one of the older folk ,Ha Ha . That ironed everything. This was a time when we did not have dishwashers, and some of us did not have a clothes dryer. We hung everything on a clothes line. YET WE IRONED to have a perfect look for our clothes, sheets, tablecloths, Napkins. WE had respect for what we had and took great care of our things. Yes we paid more for things, but they lasted longer made in the USA. I still have a set of sheets i got as a wedding gift and they look like new. thank you Rajiv.
I am 72 years young, and I have an antique ironing board. It's all wood put together with pegs. I love the creaky sound it makes when I iron. I design quilts, so I iron alot of fabric!
I got sick of replacing flimsy modern tools in my early 30s and started gradually replacing them with antiques. I'd rather use basics I can repair on my own. I still have a modern ironing board that- sadly- doesn't creak like a galleon. Although, I've got a kettle that whistles like a sailor! Great to hear you're still quilting, it's a wonderful art form :)
Good afternoon Rajiv from Bielefeld / Germany. I love watching your videos. When I was a child my mother used to bring all our sheets to a "Heißmangel Laden". It was a shop with a large rotary iron. After a day she collected the perfect pressed sheets in an old pram. (Childhood memory) My grandmother, who grew up in the countryside, still made her own Linen sheets using a loom. I still have some very old linen in my cupboard. Also, the area I live in is known for its linen weaving industry. Over centuries there was a large linen trade across Europe. Your recent Florence videos were great too. My brother lives in Livorno which is not that away. I remember driving from Livorno to Florence in the car and we were passing an area with tannereis / leatherworks.
We did the same in Poland but did not have fitted sheet. Everything was flat, duvet had removed buttons. Tablecloths and napkins were crispy and perfectly ironed. I don’t iron my sheets. I have Pima cotton Charisma ,it doesn’t need ironing.
My sister who passed away couple of years ago lived in a house with a backyard and hung her sheets outside to dry. She loved fresh sheets on her bed so much that she changed her sheets twice a week!
I'm another old woman who still loves to iron bed linens, tablecloths, napkins and dishtowels. I started ironing when I was 4. I begged to iron the handkerchiefs and dishtowels. I sat on a high stool in order to reach the ironing board. Of course, my mother stood right next to me ready to swoop in if it look like I might hurt myself. When I was an adult she confessed that the whole thing had terrified her. I'm so grateful that she took the time to help be become a competent person.
Hi Rajiv. I love your philosophy about ironing your sheets. It's about doing it for yourself. I admire the positive vibes you send to your viewers . Much love from Trinidad 🇹🇹 ✨️
I am 64. I love your channel. BUT… beside me , you are the only other person I know that irons sheets. A few of my friends send them out (eye roll). I iron my pillow cases. We have an eastern king bed. I only iron the part of the sheets that stick out doesn’t get tucked in. The top sheet is 76x80”. I have a lot of time but I have a lot of things to do! You are right. The sheets do feel better. Try it people. It’s worth the effort.
I iron sheets and pillow cases too. It’s just not the same if I don’t. People think I’m mad but I have to do it. 😂. I still use cotton handkerchiefs and I iron those too, also linen napkins.
I’m 68, love natural fibers, and inherited my grandmother’s and great grandmother’s linens because I was the only one willing to hand wash and iron them. There is absolutely nothing like getting into a bed with freshly ironed sheets or putting on a freshly ironed cotton shirt. Yes, I still iron and find it relaxing and satisfying. It was a sad day when permanent press came out.
At first I was thinking, "why?" but when you explained, and especially when you spoke of sleeping à la mode, I completely understood! Damn, boy! Or awwww sheet, boi!" 😂 Thanks Rajiv.
I worked in Augusta Sicily at a funky “resort “ called the Europa Club in 1988 for a few months. My first job was “lenzuola” or sheets. The first Italian word I learned. So it was wash the sheets, hang the sheets (to dry on the roof), iron the sheets (yes, by hand like you are doing), fold the sheets. It was so hot and humid that I swam 2-3 times a day, every day. I did a good job so they let me work in the kitchen and dining room too. One of the best summers of my life. Thanks for the memories Rajiv!❤
Hi Rajiv! Would you do a series on how to iron different types of clothing items? I would especially appreciate a video on how to iron various types of shirts. Also, would you teach us how to use starch? I was wondering if you can starch any clothing items or could it be damaging to certain types of fabrics?
I use rice starch for cotton and linens primarily shirts, pants and Indian sarees. You soak the cleaned clothes in starch and leave it for 5-10 mnts. You want to make sure the starch is neither too thick nor thin. After soaking, you just hang them dry. I never tried dryers for starches! And then the fun part of ironing starts. My starched clothes retain their crispness for 3-4 wears. Hope this helps.
I always iron my bedsheets- there’s nothing more luxurious than slipping into a well pressed bed. It feels wonderful! This is ultimate self care-I totally agree.
Oh! This is perfect timing. I recently bought some beautiful bed linen as I was inspired by your bed. It arrived yesterday and I actually thought "I bet Rajiv would iron it." Can't tell you how it made me smile to see the title of your video. Exactly what I needed at exactly the right moment. Love everything you put out but this seems particularly fortuitous! Yay!
It’s something that lots of “old folks” used to do. They seemed to iron everything! Hankies, undies, even socks! I used to be mesmerized watching my mama iron. It was somewhat of a production with the homemade water shaker she used to wet down the clothes as she didn’t have a steam iron.
Thanks Rajiv, that brought back memories of my grandmother. I used to iron my pillowcases, but I have very curly hair that as I age is getting more opinionated about how it is going to behave, satin pillowcases have made a world of difference for me even though I miss miss the crisp ironed pillowcase.
My family is from the south (Louisiana) and Saturday was ironing day. Sheets were ironed and starched. It makes you feel so nice when you slide in a crisp, soft, smell good bed. I vacuum my bed first and spray the bed with linen scented water and make my bed with crispy sheets. Even when I don’t have time, I iron nd starch my pillow cases. I can at least smell and any face feels amazing and I fall a sleep quickly. I didn’t think folks iron their sheets anymore.
Myself too from Louisiana and my eldest Aunt 🙏 did this faithfully every weekend and I have been the same/ just can't sleep 😴😪 well on bedding not pressed 🔌🧺 / with a sweet spray of Occur from Avon/ All of my linens closet is fully pressed neatly on matching suede felt hangers and pillowcases / with lavender balls for freshness I'm so happy to know I'm not alone Geaux Shangri ! RS made this feel so automatic for us both 🤫.
I have seen many content creators talk about Brook linen and Rajiv you have done the best job by FAR explaining why the sheet sets are so good. You bring your extensive knowledge and attention to detail to everything you do and it is inspiring.
I'm about Rajiv's age and started ironing my sheets when I first got married about a decade ago. I actually learned about it from Rita Konig! It's so worth it and I really feel it improves your sleep when the sheets are ironed.
Rajiv, Greetings from Hamburg, Germany 🇩🇪. I love your sense for the little details and savior vivre of traditions that are nearly forgotten, I air out my duvets every morning with the window to the garden wide open . After washing my sheets I do add starch to the last rinse circle. I never use a drier but let my sheets dry in the air. Cost effective and smells fresher than a my artificial product. If you starch your sheets you have to iron them. I buy my bed linnes preferable in Italy, Spain and Portugal. Love your videos.
Ah, perfect timing -- I ironed mine this weekend. My friends think I'm extra, and I don't care. I love ironing my sheets. I didn't know other people got the same mental satisfaction I do with this task, but I'll admit it's easier in a one-bedroom home. I sometimes do run out of mood to iron the whole thing and just make sure to iron the hems and the part of the bed I will see. But the pillowcases are always done perfectly!
Learned to iron as a kid. My mom would iron almost all of our clothes and I was allowed to iron my dad’s handkerchiefs, at a time when disposable tissues were not popular. Both women and men used handkerchiefs. I loved doing it. The evenness, folding and refolding for a small square, and for crisp lines felt wonderful. Still iron all my pillowcases and flat sheets, but not fitted. Such a lovely feel on the bed with ironed sheets.
I really ironing too ... I find it calming ... and I do love to see the the piles of neatly ironed and folded clothes and bed linen and ... yes ... towels and tea towels. One of my life's great luxuries which cost me nothing except a little time and effort is a newly made bed with freshly ironed sheets .... lovely !
I looooooove ironing sheets and I totally get the therapeutic effect. Thanks Rajiv! I was born in 1970, in Toronto 💗🍁and came to the UK as a very small child.
When, at night, I arrive home, take a shower and go to my bed with clean and ironed sheets... well... I feel soooo good! Thank you Rajiv for showing so many small-great-marvellous-things in your videos.
I admire your energy to do this! I ❤ "clean sheet day" too. Its a great feeling. I live in 🇩🇪 where you only have a fitted sheet on the matress and use duvet covers, and duvets, on top. No top sheets. Here its usual to air dry laundry, as dryers take space and energy most of us dont think is aworth using . My duvet covers get hung to dry (outside if the weather permits) as soon as they are done in the washing machine. They dry flat and minimally wrinkled -and they smell super fresh too. Same with pillow covers. Ironing is almost a thing of the past if you know how to fold things when you air dry your laundry.
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one in this world ironing my bedlinen as I look at the video & the comments below. . I sleep under antique & vintage pure flax linen sheets & pillow cases with real lace. My fitted sheets, while pure linen too, are new. I never put freshly ironed linen directly on my bed; I have dedicated cupboard. I have learned to concieve the work of ironing as meditation.
Rajiv I love all your videos.I also Iron my sheets too and I don't consider it a chore. It's actually relaxing. It's all about how you look at things. It's all about romancing the regular stuff..
I've always found ironing to be extremely therapeutic, but this video has completely sold me on the art of ironing. This is one of your best videos--explaining the different weaves was mind blowing and I learned something new!
Mundane tasks grounds you to your life❤ I grow up seeing my grandma having proud on her sheets, pots and pans. I would watch her iron the sheets all day long, it was a task of love and proud❤
There’s nothing better than ironed sheets whether getting into bed or seeing them in your linen closet. I will always do it and thank you for the ideas
Love this. I’ll give ironing sheets a try. I am someone who irons pillow cases religiously. I only buy vintage embroidered pillow cases from estate sales. And they get washed, hung on the line in the sunshine, and then ironed so they’re crisp. Every time.
I noticed yesterdays video, showing your purchases from Italy, showed sheets on your bed that were not ironed. I smiled seeing todays video because you haven't stopped ironing the sheets after all! Kindred spirit over here, Rajiv.
Thank you, Rajiv. I sometimes iron the too hem of the top sheet so that it lies flat. However, I do iron some of my pillow cases, my napkins, and my tea towels😊
We had 2 iron school uniform as a children 4... a very long... too long 12 years . In the south we can walk around in wrinkled linen and no 1 cares 1 bit . So relaxing outdoor living . I do know that when u iron 4 someone they feel cared 4. So that translates 2 u as u caring 4 u. Just like in reading books. the methodical right 2 left repetatove eye movements calms something in the brain. ❤🌎 ❤
My grandmother was from New York. She sent all her linens, including sheets and towels, to the cleaners. I remember them delivering them to her neatly pressed and folded and wrapped in blue paper tied with string. The cleaners would also leave small cloth labels with printed numbers on her sheets, towels, etc.
Your ironing board looks very much like my grandmother’s board, circa 1920s. I have been using it for at least fifty years, and it is still as sturdy and stable as it was when new. Ironing can be a zen experience.
You're just my favorite, you love everything I love, including ironing sheets !! It is meditation to me, not to mention sleeping under them afterwards 😍🥰
I LOVE this video! Sometimes I iron the hem of the sheets ON the bed! It just feels easier that way 😊. I am so curious about the placement of your lamp at the foot of the bed, by the window. Do you have a lamp at the head of the bed in case you want to read in bed?
My mother ironed everything including cloth diapers. Both my sister and I iron our sheets and yes Rajiv, there is no other feeling like a freshly ironed bed(sheets).
When I got married the first time, my godmother who was a haute couture seamstress, made a set of sheets for my wedding. Sadly, yet proudly, my sheets outlived my 18 years first marriage, and are still good as new 20 additional years later! 😊 Loving yourself in small details, makes life so much better! It’s like wearing beautiful lingerie even though you will not show it to anyone! It’s simply good for your soul. 😊
I grew up in Europe, my mother and grandmother ironed everything, sheets, towels, underwear and, yes even socks. I still iron sheets and pillowcases but not the other stuff😀
The fabric linens were made out of was so much better quality than anything I find now. I still remember hot summer nights before my grandmother had A.C. with windows open, industrial fans blowing and sleeping on crisp comfortable sheets.
I saw your acting on Mean Girls. You were a great actor. I really liked that character when I first watched mean girls decades ago but I did not know that was you until I saw you mention it recently so I had to go back and watch a scene you were in. You have a great stage presence. You have an intensity and a purity in your delivery. Very impressive.
I thought I was as the only person I know who irons my sheets outside of the dry cleaning service, except I place the fitted sheet in my bed first, then I iron it. The flat sheet, I fold into 2 and then I iron it. It’s such a great feeling when you get into bed with smooth, ironed sheets. My friends make fun of me, but they don’t know what they’re missing. 😉😌
Prasowanie to element kultury osobistej. Dodatkowo antybakteryjne dzialanie. Prasowanie sterty przygotowanych rzeczy z domu to jak medytacja. I bardzo przytulna czynność. Uwielbiam prasować.
We all know Rajiv is clumsy. I was on edge thinking he might burn himself flipping that sheet around and holding the iron. Another fantastic inspiring video! Love you Rajiv!
When I visited one of my roommates from college, she showed me her mothers linen closer. Not only were her sheets ironed, the bed sets were tied in pretty pink satin ribbons. Her closet was so pretty and organuzwd!
i bought brooklinen towels and it came with bath mats and i still haven't tried their sheets but now i want to lol i'm currently using sheets from amazon...i really want to try ironing my sheets though to improve my sleep and desire to go to bed and sleep
Figures. I just ironed my top sheet yesterday, and here you are with you ironing video. Lol. I just iron the top edge so it looks nice when folded over the quilt.
My grandmother always ironed her sheets. She was disgusted over the idea that we weren’t doing it; she seemed to think that it was so lazy and maybe even trashy not to. 😂 But now I see the point. Thank you, Rajiv. 😆
When I was 5 years old (in 1962), my mom taught me how to iron pillowcases and my dad's handkerchiefs. As a wife and mom, I ironed my children's sheets because my children are especial and deserve to sleep in a clean, beautiful bed. I ironed my sheets because my husband and my relationship is so important. I want my husband to know I love him enough to do this for us. Ironing my family's sheets also gave me the perfect opportunity to pray for them as I was ironing. I have a failed back fusion and can no longer iron our sheets, and I miss it.
I too love to iron. It is so lovely to put a great movie on, such as " Dalgiesh", and truly enjoy ironing my clothes and I iron my pillow cases and the larger edge of my sheets so that when you fold it it looks crisp ❤
I take my sheets out of the dryer when they are still hot and dry then put them on the bed. They aren't wrinkled at all and they stretch smooth and tight on the bed. And the weight of the blanket also smooths the sheet. My sheets are material that don't wrinkle.
This. Ironing sheets is basically a big waste of time and I do not want my sheet on the 'dirty' floor because I am trying to get creases out of something that will just crease again after one night or two.
Pillowcase and flat sheet hems neck and neck -- both matter. I always start opposite of opening on the pillowcase. German sis in law uses a Mangel on all linens and it really is a lovely way to feel cared for and experience good quality of life.
I have ( All my sheets and pillowcases freshly ironed and I haven't even got to the end of the video ! My Aunt taught me when I was a small child / when I open that closet my ( linen closet 😳🤔 with matching suede hangers) the few guests I've invited in usually get uncomfortable and they want to leave afterwards / thank God 🙏🙌 I'm not alone 🙏
I never iron the sheets, but the pillow case. Another idea will be to make your bed and iron the sheets in place using an extension cord, of course without steam. Nice iron by the way.
Rajiv, please show us how to fold a fitted sheet. I’ve watched so many (okay 2-3) videos of how to and I cannot get it. I know you can help me understand! ❤ Love your work ❤
I’m 70 and grew up ironing sheets because they were all cotton and very , very wrinkled! My Mom even had a lady come in once a week to help with ironing! Now I only do the pillowcases and edge of top sheet! I try to gold right out of dryer to prevent wrinkles too! I find it rrlaxing🛏️
Rajiv, when you’re ironing, take those flowers off that high table and pull it over so you can put your iron down and have access to your entire board to sort out and flatten and smooth your sheet then grab your iron when you’re ready to use it.🙂. Efficiency tip.
You make even ironing sheets exciting. When youtubers are promoting a product I always fast forward because I found it boring and I’m not interested. However, you do it differently, the way you explain about Brooklinen sheets, make me want to get them.

@@BelindaM44 Warm and fuzzy ones
Wow. That's called simple pleasures of life. Glad to know your grandma was meticulous about those simple yet important things.
Wonderful! My 97 year old mum even irons her smalls!
Sweet memories!

There are still plenty of people that do not have dishwashers and hang their clothes outside. I have a dryer but i never put clothing inside of it
Oh how I love "fresh sheets day"! Dried in the sun, ironed to crisp perfection, it's a little slice of heaven. I work hard and I am worth it.

I grow up seeing my grandma having proud on her sheets, pots and pans.
I love ironed sheets and I do starch them as well. Lots of work, but so nice.😅
This is so very satisfying to watch 😌 Thankful for your intentional living and love put into everything you do, Rajiv ❤ Love your work!
Rajiv, you are a precious gem. This video took me out of a sad mood and had me giggling about sleeping à la mode 😂
Hearing your appreciation of quality cotton and your happy satisfaction with precise making, I can’t help thinking you would be a skilled quilter ☺️
My grand mommy used to iron her sheets, and prior she always hung them out to dry.
It does make a difference. (I suck at ironing)
I have ironed my sheets as often as I can because it feels so lovely to slip into them. It’s a luxury we can pamper ourselves and our guests with.
I do SO agree with you! I LOVE to iron my sheets too, it is VERY relaxing 😊!
Ironing my sheets was one of those special luxuries I had to give up when I had kids, but I do miss it. Someday I’ll get to do it again. 🙂
I can’t believe I just watched a half hour long video on ironing sheets!❤😂
Interesting that Rajiv puts a picture of his mom so nearby. He must love her so.
turn the dryer innheat and place the already air dried dried sheets in and turn it on for 5 mins on high.. job done ✔️
I do iron my pillow cases because I sew on purple flowers with green leaves.
❤🌸
I iron my sheets too. And can you believe I can tell by the noise that your sheets make that the quality is good? If you know you know ❤
Figures. I just ironed my top sheet yesterday, and here you are with you ironing video. Lol. I just iron the top edge so it looks nice when folded over the quilt.
I use 100% cotton sheets and they look better and feel better if they are ironed. Cotton sheets last much longer than poly/cotton blends.
My grandmother always ironed her sheets. She was disgusted over the idea that we weren’t doing it; she seemed to think that it was so lazy and maybe even trashy not to. 😂 But now I see the point. Thank you, Rajiv. 😆
Fun to watch. I will never iron my sheets, ever. I do enjoy piecing and ironing a quilt block. A good feeling.
What about you?
@@douloureux. What about me? I am enjoying caring for my family with an others-centred attitude. Nothing is more gratifying!!
I love to iron, and I just found a little vintage iron like your vintage one.❤
What brand may I ask?
@JayJackson007 General Electric 😊 it is missing the water bulb, though.
@@salenafaircloth1606 thank you!!
That blue duvet is the prettiest blue.
One of your best videos! Great way to show yourself selfcare😊
I iron my sheets! To make the fitted sheet easier, I put it on the mattress and iron it on the bed. Takes just a few minutes. 😊
Pillowcase and flat sheet hems neck and neck -- both matter. I always start opposite of opening on the pillowcase. German sis in law uses a Mangel on all linens and it really is a lovely way to feel cared for and experience good quality of life.
I love it ! Thank you 🇨🇦
I have ( All my sheets and pillowcases freshly ironed and I haven't even got to the end of the video ! My Aunt taught me when I was a small child / when I open that closet my ( linen closet 😳🤔 with matching suede hangers) the few guests I've invited in usually get uncomfortable and they want to leave afterwards / thank God 🙏🙌 I'm not alone 🙏
Rajiv. How did you know my mom and I were JUST talking about doing this. Thank you
Stay Calm and Iron On 👌👌
I‘m also team ironing. 😎Even after a week one can tell the visible and feelable difference whether the bedding has been ironed or not.
My mother used to put the damp sheets in the refrigerator to chill them before applying the hot iron.
I never iron the sheets, but the pillow case. Another idea will be to make your bed and iron the sheets in place using an extension cord, of course without steam. Nice iron by the way.
The video we've all been waiting for. Couldn't click fast enough
Hi Raijvi 👋 I only iron my pillow cases. I use linen sheets.. I was wondering what the brand of your iron, please😊
Rajiv, please show us how to fold a fitted sheet. I’ve watched so many (okay 2-3) videos of how to and I cannot get it. I know you can help me understand! ❤ Love your work ❤
Love your philosophy
I’m 70 and grew up ironing sheets because they were all cotton and very , very wrinkled! My Mom even had a lady come in once a week to help with ironing!
Now I only do the pillowcases and edge of top sheet! I try to gold right out of dryer to prevent wrinkles too! I find it rrlaxing🛏️
Thanks.
Rajiv, when you’re ironing, take those flowers off that high table and pull it over so you can put your iron down and have access to your entire board to sort out and flatten and smooth your sheet then grab your iron when you’re ready to use it.🙂. Efficiency tip.
You have the stuff for a nice little housekeepers guide.
Doing this is self care
See he even makes sponsored videos fun I love this guy he is amazing
Your use of the words lie and lay **chef’s kiss**
You make even ironing sheets exciting. When youtubers are promoting a product I always fast forward because I found it boring and I’m not interested. However, you do it differently, the way you explain about Brooklinen sheets, make me want to get them.
I iron my sheets. I like to iron. it relaxes me.
Finally! Finally one of the first to comment 😊
