- An incredible woman and a band. It's a shame this person had to go through mental war, and yet, she is still active and thriving!
Tell me your thoughts on the female involvement with metal, and also, which band should I do next?

Music by me.
Love the concept of your channel; definitely a niche on UA-cam that hasn't been covered yet! Also adore Myrkur, she's touring at the moment, can't wait to see her in London!🖤
Thank you so much! You can also check out Varvis, I you like my content, he's doing an amazing job on his channel, and also, an older UA-camr, Wyattxhim who is also breaking down bands and genres!! 🖤🖤
As far as I know, most of the hate she got wasn't for being a female but for not being "Trve Kvlt". Black Metal fans can be edgy and over-protective about the purity of the genre (and I include myself here) and the few I've listened from Myrkur is far away from sounding "pure". To be honest, I don't consider it Black Metal myself. Does this justify the hate? Hell no. She actually does some interesting music.
Yes! And I myself have a great appreciation for many music genres as well, as we all should but as you said, that is not the reason for ruining someone’s well being! (She herself as I mentioned in the video doesn’t think she plays black metal)
@@JoWinters I guess that's the thing...if you like music, you appreciate talent and well done things so you're able to enjoy... music, not just "Black Metal" (or whatever genre). If you're a scene edgy kind of person, you just hate on everything out of your scene and this, in a tribal context, degenerates in sheep reactions and haters fueling each other to be the biggest asshole. "Humans being humans" as you said. I may have attention problems, because I missed the part when you say she doesn't think she plays Black Metal... and your videos aren't exactly long. My bad :P
Over protective, yes 😂 somewhere around 1993 two idiots from my town heavily beaten a guy for calling the music he played black metal while in their opinion it was not black metal. Serious business.
@@fandzejka9540 Well... even if it's related (Watain themselves were that kind of people, apparently), I believe that's a different problem: some people are violent and they just need an excuse to fight. It happens because of music, it happens because of sports, it happens because of politics... and it also sucks.
Edit: nah, indeed it IS the same problem. We're just focusing it around BM, but it's a human problem :)
True but some of it was sex based, I’ve literally seen comments talking about how “femaleness and bm don’t mix” so, it probably made it worse at least. Like the body shaming, sex jokes, and making fun of her about her baby dying. Stuff like that.
I can't understand how some people can be so ignorant to threat a woman just to do what she likes! I love Myrkur, from the most ambiant album to the more black!
Myrkur my beloved. I wish I were better with my Danish so that I wouldn't need a translated set of lyrics to follow along to her songs.
I know right?! I am learning Swedish now, and I can understand one or two of her songs, kind of.. but I find myself trying to read the lyrics often.
Myrkur is not a band, it is a movement! I was with her since day 1.
All my respect and admiration honestly!
You could investigate history of Peste Noir. That would be interesting :)
Helllll yea!!! Lets see Septicflesh!!!
So good. I love the new content!!
Thank you so much 🤘🏼
Great new channel, keep up the good work
Thank you!!
I want to say I'm surprised she got threats, but I'm honestly not. No community is really free from toxic people.
Yes.. it is very sad and true. This is why I said “humans being humans”.
Such a beatiful voice you have! :) Good work!
Thank you!
Greetings from Ecuador! Myrkur is pure art.Keep doing videos you are the best.✌💀
Thank you so much!!!
I love your accent. Are you icelandic by any chance?
Hahah no, I am a greek in Sweden:)
Great vid❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏
That was interesting, its great to get to know smaller bands.
I noticed something, you nailed the pronunciation of Nyckelharpa, and it sounded a lot like you pronunced Danish in a swedish kind of way... I bet you speak swedish...
I'm from the province of Uppland around Uppsala Sweden where Nyckelharpa "comes from" so it was fun seing it been used.
Hahah I am actually learning right now! I was born and raised in Greece, and now, thankfully, I live in Sweden too:)
@@JoWinters Cool I could hear it! 😋
Clearly we need more immigrants that are cool and into good music. 😎
Maybe you can talk a little about some Swedish bands then?
Obvious choices for me would be Edge of Sanity/Dan Swanö and Dissection.
But there are of course a lot of others.
Of course, have thought of Dissection and Opeth actually! I have also done Funeral Mist, my first video:) Thank you for the recommendations! @@hnorrstrom
@@JoWinters please cover Opeth! My favourite band ever, they have a really interesting history!
I love opeth!! @@leilahamaoui3564

nice channel
Thank you !
Great Review jo, where do you live? Wanna catch a show together sometime?
Cool channel. New subscriber for sure.
Hear me out. Incorporating pop elements, sounding beautiful and "redefining" a genre that is centered on being primitive, anti-commercial and most importantly, extreme, is a sure way of pissing off dedicated black metallers. And to brush off the backlash as "they hate me because I'm female" is adding more fuel to the fire because there are lots of respected females in the scene: Onielar, Asagraum (an all-female band).
Every musician has critics and to complain about it is just... She's a grown woman in the metal scene, suck it up. She has the right to play whatever music she wants and we have the right to say it sucks and doesn't belong.
I'm sorry, but death threats (I don't condone them) come with being in the entertainment industry. If you don't have a thick skin for this shit, you're in the wrong profession.
the singer is a big fan of culture club and boy george. So I would assume their music draws most influence from that, and definitely not black metal. Have you heard black metal music? you must have you mentioned darkthrone.
i0.wp.com/devoutcraziness.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Myrkur.jpg?ssl=1 I know you probably wont believe me so I left here the url of where I was able to upload the image of her showing her favorite records.
Yes! That is exactly what she claims as well. That it is not black metal:)
how old are you?
26 🤘🏼
I don't really get why would female haters (I think that's what misogynist means?) would hate someone for making black metal? All the better, everyone should make black metal. There are other, better avenues for expressing hate towards people (even if there are bands like Inhuman Hate, you get the point).
Misogynist does not mean woman, it can be anybody. But, yes, I agree with you, everyone should be able to do anything as long as we're safe and respectful of others lives!
Myrkur is odd. Interesting music but she doesn't really fit the Black metal label well, like Deafhaven, who have been labelled as screamo (genuine 90s screamo era music, not the normie labelling). Very folky vibe, but she really shouldn't go near the closed off black metal communtiy
Yes! As she said, she doesn’t think she plays black metal, or was never her goal. She’s just a person doing music:)
I think she got crap from Antifa people, because of the Runic logo,
wierdly.
"Folkesange" is a Masterpiece! But thumb down for this useless Video!
Thank you sir 😂
And also, I freaking love that album
Thumbs down for this useless comment.
From.Bolivia with love...Myrkur is great proyect. but she received more Hate.
yes unfortunately.
