The Black Keys perform Lonely Boy live for Zane Lowe and Radio 1 from the BBC's legendary Maida Vale studios. Make sure you check out the full set at bbc.co.uk/radio1
Yes you are right, they look like the guys I worked with at my old school, the drummer was a History teacher and the guitarist was the cleaner. Thank you for reminding me of my work colleagues. Mind you I wish they came and played for the kids. They would love them.
That's the true style of Black Keys. They don't care about the sound details, they just play this neglected rock that it is awsome for millions in the world.
To those criticizing this drummer: I'm a drummer auditioning for a working cover band in a few days and this is one of the songs required. This drummer is making a living playing drums(his own material to boot ) and I'm covering his parts but work a day job.I say good for him he's doing what he wants. So he's not the best technically. At least he's working and playing HIS music. Every situation is different and he works in this one. Just my two cents and Happy St. Pats!
@Cameron Regester I think he's good. Nobody cares about excellence in musicianship. Well at least, I don't. Neither do they apparently. Its more feel. Like the old blues guys and rock and roll guys they're influenced by.
being a drummer myself this guy does not suck the groove matches the song and it does not need to be flashy or hard tbh keeping the tempo through out the song at that speed is very difficult and tiring this guy does not suck there all great musicians, great band.
My little brother was very sick in hospital recently, he is also a fan, he loves this album. He was lying in the hospital bed, really sore and pissed off. But when we played this song, he smiled and shouted "Hey!", as in 2.25 mins. Thanks to the Black Keys to helping my baby brother through a bad time!
@@samanthab1923 They may work better creatively as a duo and will track all instruments themselves, but when it comes to reproducing the sound live, it is necessary to use session musicians so they avoid playing to a track.
one hit wonder are you kidding? the black keys have been around for a long time and certainly aren't going anywhere.. they're just finally getting the recognition they deserve!
Oh oh oh I got a love that keeps me waiting Oh oh oh I got a love that keeps me waiting I'm a lonely boy I'm a lonely boy Oh oh oh I got a love that keeps me waiting This is addictive !
To play a few milliseconds off the tempo is intentional, and is a freaking hard to play that way both for the rest of the bend and drummer.... but sounds pure and far away from "innocent".... actually sounds great! Check the studio version (audio) and it is there as well.... Love these guy..., so natural, pure...
Yes I pick up on that, a few bands do that ,playing fractionally behind the tempo ,sounds great and live not like a time click that’s why it so hard to copy and get right
This song rocks because it strikes an emotional note, regardless of technique. Music isn't a fucking mechanical creation, it can live and take wings without technical perfection, in fact, in spite of it.
Pat really plays behind the tempo, not a terrible thing, Bonham was famous for playing a few milliseconds behind as well. Pat's grooves are unique and simple, but fat. One of the many reasons I love this band.
Even Bonham used a goddamn metronome and he was drunk af all the time. Pat Carny has no excuse to suck in the 21st century, he could at least use in-ear monitors to use a click track to play along to
I can tell that this video will appear on never mind the buzzcocks in about twenty years, and I'll regale my (probably uninterested children) with playlists from my youth.
Even in the record the drummer is all over the place. He's not a 'great' technical drummer, it's more of a feel thing. Raw. Think of Meg White. Awful drummer but it works for Jack.
I’m not the ideal person to criticize the drummer, i don’t even know how to play the drums (I’m a guitar type of person) and I thought he did fine before reading the comments lol but even now that I know he’s not good I keep enjoying it, and that’s what you should do too
Well, tempo is tempo, doesn't matter the instrument you're playing, so, you can have a opinion about it. Even people that have no clue about the basics of music can tell the time it's not quite right. And the drums here are off. It's not the end of the world, but it definitely bothers the ears. I understand what you mean, though. There are people really pissed about it at the comments, lol.
This song controls my body for almost 3 month.. everytime i heard this song i dance no matter where, on the bike, in the car, shopping mall, fucking toilet, car park, public place.. its fucking embarrassing moment.. what have you done to me the black keys??
WELL NINA YOU WON THE PRIZE. INFACT THAT IS STEPHEN HAWKINS. HE JUST KEEPS A LOW PROFILE. IF YOU NOTICE HE'S THE DRUMMER. SITTING, WHEEL CHAIR. THERE YOU GO. IF CAN CALL ME I'LL MAKE SURE YOU GET THE PRIZE. A BIG HUG. LOVE YOU
Notice how some people say he's rushing and others say he's dragging. He does both. Not inherently bad to play around with tempo, but it seems he does it randomly, not as creative expression. Many people won't even hear his variation in tempo, for other listeners it's painfully obvious.(ie. distracting from the feel of the song), others can hear it but don't mind.
You people wouldn't know the difference between a bad drummer and a great drummer if it came up and slapped you in the faces. You all got into this band when Brothers came out and pretend to know "good music". Kill your radios and listen to bands who need the real exposure.
I'll never forget the first time I had to cover Black Keys in 2011 and I'm thinking to myself "this is what's popular now? How did it go from Limp Bizkit to this over 10 years?"
Well I'm so above you And it's plain to see But I came to love you anyway So you pulled my heart out And I don't mind bleeding Any old time you keep me waiting Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting I'm a lonely boy I'm a lonely boy Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting Well your mama kept you but your daddy left you And I should've done you just the same But I came to love you Am I born to bleed? Any old time you keep me waiting Waiting Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me
The Black Keys as a band look like a geography teacher and the school janitor broke into the music room after hours and started to jam.
But they're the COOLEST janitor and geography teacher!
Yes you are right, they look like the guys I worked with at my old school, the drummer was a History teacher and the guitarist was the cleaner. Thank you for reminding me of my work colleagues.
Mind you I wish they came and played for the kids. They would love them.
omg yes hahahahaha
brilliant.

Hi I've done a cover of of this on acoustic would love you to check it out 👍
the drummer is way different from the stereotype and he's fucking cool. great band!
Stereotype*

Drummers always are/have oneof the following:
-bald
-glasses
-a beard
-long hair
***** or a hat...

Pratt 2007 well said my dude. Did you happen to get the part in the cover band?
Hard to read a sensible comment such as this one...
Pratt dude too true - hope you got role - too many armchair internet warriors...
Well said man
@Cameron Regester I think he's good. Nobody cares about excellence in musicianship. Well at least, I don't. Neither do they apparently. Its more feel. Like the old blues guys and rock and roll guys they're influenced by.

Mad respect to the fella on Keys doing backing vocals and jammin with a tambourine in his right hand.

Piano guy doesn't get enough credit, that's hard as hell to do.
Jajajaja el mamon
jlc2100 How come the Band is made up of just the 2 of them when they always play with other musicians?
@@samanthab1923 They may work better creatively as a duo and will track all instruments themselves, but when it comes to reproducing the sound live, it is necessary to use session musicians so they avoid playing to a track.
Jalegre Thank you. They're the only new band I've liked in years.

Drums are badass 👌🏻
Pat is so cool.. love his drumming
There's no doubt for me anymore... The simpler, the better.
The Black Keys have rescued, in my humble opinion, ROCK!
Well said
the drummer reminds me of a young bernie sanders
bowl1or2 yes!
Or a younger Stephen Hawking if he never had ALS
I think he looks like that clever bloke off "Pointless"!!!!
He's got a time machine, don't you know
My god ...I will never look at him the same
Nothing will ever beat the oficial video of this song
Mcloving playing drums!! Nice song! I play it with my brothers sometimes!!
The guy from Glee I thought
I love how the drummer enjoy playing, dancing while playing drums and sitting. He's cute
Still kicks and resonates.
Good song! Great band! Great drummer! I like his style...
Bro i think this sounds good as hell i dont know what all the hate is about
Because the drummer needs a goddamn metronome, it's painfully obvious.
Lol really the white stripes were doing this way before them and they did with only 2 people hahaha
@@GraspPrint the black keys are only two people, you tit. love the white stripes too, but you are being unfair.
The drummer sounds really sloppy especially on the verse section. Should probably practice more.
Michael Eisenreich TBK have always been, and always will be, the poor man’s White Stripes.
What a cool drummer !!!!
Long time great Band. Love to all the BK crew. Australia.

They were amazing beyond amazon at the Grammys!!
My son says I look like the drummer when I wear my reading glasses........I am 47, he is 18 and we both like the Black Keys........GREAT BAND!!!!
Saw these guys live a couple years ago, that drummer hits HARD! Excellent band
Hits hard but can't keep a beat, that's like putting sprinkles on a turd.
The rhythm is different. I like it.
To play a few milliseconds off the tempo is intentional, and is a freaking hard to play that way both for the rest of the bend and drummer.... but sounds pure and far away from "innocent".... actually sounds great! Check the studio version (audio) and it is there as well.... Love these guy..., so natural, pure...
shitty drummer
If playing off tempo is a skill then I am buddy rich, keith moon and Neil peart rolled into one cuz I can't keep time for shit 😲
@@westerling8436 Shitty drummer that won't be living a life of poverty like you...... Fucking oooops......
This is a really easy song on the drums, dont know why was he so off. Not just the tempo per se
Yes I pick up on that, a few bands do that ,playing fractionally behind the tempo ,sounds great and live not like a time click that’s why it so hard to copy and get right
The black keys are slick as slime, super sound clean and spotless, original that's why there on top
One of the best band ever!
i'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks this way
White stripes?
Saw the boys in Glasgow last night. Superb
This song rocks because it strikes an emotional note, regardless of technique. Music isn't a fucking mechanical creation, it can live and take wings without technical perfection, in fact, in spite of it.

He`s influenced by Bonham. Pat has said loves bonham's style.
so you are saying that Bonham played behind the tempo like this guy? hahaha
Bonham had right time dumbass
Even Bonham used a goddamn metronome and he was drunk af all the time. Pat Carny has no excuse to suck in the 21st century, he could at least use in-ear monitors to use a click track to play along to
It sounds awesome though right?
Love love LOVE this song!!
Damn hipster at the guitar knows how to extract that fuzzy bluesy tone for leadish parts and that southern clean twang on the verse. Kudos.
A friend told me about this band, and I have to say...I'm impressed!
Class band that helps the millions with their words
they arent getting better and they arent the same !
black keys is awsome since first album !
cheers from brazil
I love this song
I could picture the Doors performing this song
Aaron Page That’s a really fun thought actually..I feel like that chorus isn’t really Morrison’s style though..maybe a slower, more blusey version!
I really had the same thought
Totally
Hi I've done a cover of this song would love you to chekc it out
Maybe at x0'75. More bluesy.
Starting me up with this song again! Black keys are great!
Pat used to rush in live concerts. So, i think they told him to drag a little and he made this. It sounds aweson thoug.
most talented ginger ever !!!
Great live performance!
I can tell that this video will appear on never mind the buzzcocks in about twenty years, and I'll regale my (probably uninterested children) with playlists from my youth.
I think their drummer has a style and swagger all his own. My favorite performance in this video.
Sensational band yeah 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
These guys are great!
One of the best bands right now.
ARE YOU RUSHING OR ARE YOU DRAGGING
I think Fletcher would get a heart attack working with this guy.

Are you criticising or observing???
HE'S LIVING
As a fellow drummer it's painful to see him struggling with the tempo like that.
They are the best.
The singer looks like he hasn't slept for days
6 years later, he still doesn't look like he has in all of his lives.
That’s your average rockstar for you
Probably hasn't. .
He sleeps on he’s guitar very uncomfortable 😅
Artist don’t sleep
Phenomenal
Love this song. The drummer steals the spotlight. May be because he's so cool.
Great song. Always did like it.
Mc loving in the drums :)
AWESOME!!!! Amazing Band!
So good to see Richard Osman in his element
This is my favourite song I've watched this at lest 100 times

I see that Silvertone amp and I just tear up...had one back in the 70s that I sold for $50. If I knew then....
Why is everyone hating on the drummer I thought he did fine
A holier than thou mentality by certain people that either don't like the band or just think they're better (and are jealous).
