    Subscribed! I loved this video. I've been dealing with imposter syndrome nearly my entire adult life. I have earned a B.S. in Sociology and an MBA and I still lack confidence. I'm currently an HR Generalist, Latina, well into my 40s - I mention this because in our culture, education was not always at the forefront. And at my age, I should be settled in my career. However, I've always been fascinated with data analytics, I just never felt "smart enough" to pursue it. Just recently I decided to start pursuing it. Although I love my current job, I just don't know how long I want to deal with the drama that comes with working in HR. I'd like something that will provide me with a livable salary and less drama but also keep me challenged.

      Hey thanks for the comment and sharing! It sounds like you're already well qualified and have a lot of work experience. Career changes happen all the time whether in you're in your 20s or 40s, so don't let that stop you. Life is too short to settle! If you enjoy data analytics please keep going. From my experience, anyone can get into the industry. With some studying and practicing you'll get there. Good luck on the journey!

      Hi, first of all thanks alot for joining youtube and making these videos, they are top-notch! I have been learning data analyst skills in last 6 months or so and I have learned a lot more than I expected to in this time. I feel like it is time for me to update my beginning projects with better ones and start applying for jobs but the job opportunities are quite low in my country. Fortunately I've always wanted to move abroad and work there but I don't know if it is even possible. I've encountered some job postings that doesn't accept applies from outside of their country and most of them doesn't say anything specific about that. Would you happen to know if such thing as my dream of finding a data analyst job abroad is possible without experience? Sorry for the long comment/reply. And thanks again for your work! They really help me keep myself motivated and can't wait to learn more from you!

    This video was very helpful and clear. Thank you so much. I subscribed! I’m on my journey to become a data analyst and I was feeling discouraged thinking I’ll never be good enough to land a junior position. I’m also feeling discouraged doing random assignments instead of hands on practice working with real data in my courses. Looks like I have to focus on my own personal projects for my portfolio.

    Find it very related as my major was Sociology as well! Wanted to fully transition to be a data analyst for a while, I have taken so many course to learn R, python, SQL, tableau, PowerBI, you name it I have studied them all, and have built a portfolio on Kaggle, even have read stuff on statistics, but always lack the courage to take the leap, the furthest I have done is taking up a 50% analyst role in my current company and stayed 50% in my original role (not my most ideal choice but I thought it's a good starting point of an at least 50% analytics role). After watching this I am more confident, seeing someone with similar background doing the same! Also I am concerned about the age thing, just turned 30 to start fresh-ish.. But anyways, thank you for the great video!

      @@Dariusrae45636 A couple of things that can speed it up: Forget about the optional forum input(it doesn't advance the % done) and personal story videos(scan the text). Also, some of video instruction is poorly done (not up-to-date). It's important to take notes and to go with links in the reading materials. Don't get bogged down on something, press forward, takes notes and use outside sources to get you up to speed. This is just a survey course which gives you an overview. Is it worth, sure you get the certificates so at least employers know that you put in the time. Getting a good portfolio together is a must (when completed).

The thought of venturing into a new world was scary all the technical jargon was intimidating but I took a leap of faith and since then have not looked back, and now I'm forecasting that by the end of the year, I'll have a portfolio in place and start applying for jobs. What about the promotion process? In my state, BA and DA are two specialized fields, and in the long run, will it be easier for BA to get promoted to PO or manager? What do you think about DA?

    • @agathakang
      @agathakang  9 місяців тому

      The promotion process really differs by company but you're right the BA and DA are 2 separate specialized fields usually. Many factors will determine which field gets promoted faster such as the industry, availability of positions, what type of manager. In my experience, I've had a lot of non-technical managers too so if your goal is to eventually be a manager I would say choose the path you enjoy more as moving up will be easier.

That's why I'd like to prepare myself as best as I could and your video really helped me a lot in giving me direction what to do. So, once again, thanks a lot!

      I took a data science bootcamp too which I talk about in next week's video. It helped level up my skills but definitely requires a lot of discipline to still do a lot of studying on your own. Good luck with the bootcamp!

    Hey Agatha, how much math would you say someone should know when working as a data analyst? Cheers

    • @agathakang
      @agathakang  Рік тому +1

      Basic math is required such as mean, median, mode, percentile, average. You don't have to manually do these calculations but you should know what they mean and when to use them. It really depends on the industry and the job but in my role, I don't use more than those listed. Especially for an entry level role, it should be enough to know those.

    I've been hearing the software field is extremely hard to find a job at now days and people can't even get an interview after thousands of applications. Maybe I'll just get my CDL license and drive trucks which is more physically challenging but the fastest way to start earning close to a 6 figure salary.

    • @agathakang
      @agathakang  Рік тому

      The job market has been incredibly tough this year but the market does have its ups and downs. It's not realistic to expect a 6 figure salary for an entry level data analyst job immediately. It does take time. When you get to senior and higher levels the salary does go up more.

I am planning to move to another field and start studying to become a data analyst. Is that a good choice? I have been researching a lot. I found your UA-cam channel and am now a new subscriber. Can you please suggest whether this is a good move for me? Thank you.

    I completed the Google Data Analysis Certificate in approximately a year and a half, but I did not work in it and I feel as if I do not know anything in this field. What is your advice?

    • @agathakang
      @agathakang  Рік тому

      The thing about certificates and courses is that it's really hard to learn without applying hands on knowledge. Even I get rusty when I don't use SQL for a few months. The best way to learn is to do a project. Whether it's through an internship, on the job, volunteer, or on your own. There are datasets available on Kaggle where you can start with a problem statement first and try to solve it using data analysis with the dataset to get a sense of what data analysis is.

  • @chandreshslal9686
    @chandreshslal9686 Рік тому

    We can get data from Kaggle but how can we prepare set of questions to get ready for analysis.

    • @agathakang
      @agathakang  11 місяців тому +1

      It can be any question that you can solve with data and do an analysis with trends. For example, if you're looking at your bank statement you can analyze "what is the trend of spending in 2023?" and categorize the spending into "entertainment" and "food" to see what types of insights you can get.

      Hey! I haven't come across any data analytics course specific to agriculture but the skills needed including excel, sql, a visualization tool and critically thinking will be the same across all industries. I have some resources links in the description above and I'd recommend doing a search online for agriculture specific courses. I do see some online but unfortunately I can't recommend a specific one. Hope this helps!

    Oh, not the dreaded SSRS. I had to use it in college (mid 2000s). Horrible data visualization tool. I'm very happy for the rise of Tableau and later Power BI. Matlab was nice but used for hard science and academia. Not so much for business like Tableau and Power BI.

      Yes it's possible but you will need to leverage work experience. If you can get your foot in the door with any work experience related to the industry you want to work in and have hands on experience, you will stand out and have a better change to land a job without a degree.

    yeah, it's a false statement. You had a business background. If you were coming from any unrelated to business (or similar) and/or IT - THEN I would assume it's applicable. For you - to give an honest title to this video - would be "how to transfer into business analytics for business professionals". Everything else is misleading.

      To give an illustration, a person can not be a carpenter in a day just because he's able to put planks and shingles on a house.
      He just knows the basic concept, but if he's to put in hours in getting the foundational knowledge and able to apply it, he'll eventually be a carpenter.
      Sure, who's to say having a finance, maths, or MBA wouldn't give you an edge in analytics? Of course they do, but having no background doesn't negate the fact that learning fundamentals can get someone's foot in the door in data analysis.
