- @NandovMovies sent out a call to talk about some of our favorite villains in media. So, in response, I decided to first discuss the infamous ruler of Amphibia, the person the fandom loves to hate, King Andrias. Specifically, how they did a phenomenal job of expressing his tyranny in the show's season 2 finale, in "One Villainous Scene."

Majorly why I give big props for Keith David's performance, he gives an incredible expression of what the character has gone through

Andrias: Exellent but you know what, I'm feeling a little over the top today, could you make the castle fly as well?
*castle starts flying*
Sprig: Woah, hope this doesn't affect the plot.
*Frobots fly into the castle*
Frobots: Oh boy, hello fellow children.
Andrias: Surpise! But yeah, as you probably guessed, I can't let you go back to earth because your boys about to conquer it.
Anne: So you were a villain this whole time?!
Andrias: Yeah, I'm surprised you all didn't notice.
HP: I was a bit skeptical.
Anne: Shut up Hop Pop, no you weren't.
Andrias: You know there's something funny about this.
Anne: What could possibly be funny about this?!
Andrias: All these hidden truths being revealed.
Marcy (thinking): oh no, not now.
Andrias: Is reminding me, of a song.
Marcy: Please Andrias, you said you would let them go.
Andrias: Well that’s the thing about backstabbing Mar Mar. You get backstabbed.

marcy and andrias's relationship is heartbreaking because despite his cruelty in the end, you can tell that they had a bond and genuinely cared for each other. andrias was actually interested in marcy's interests, he read her books, he was impressed by her intelligence. and marcy felt validated by someone caring and being invested in the things she liked, a feeling she probably didn't get from anne and sasha back home. they were truly friends, yet in his rage at his own friends' betrayal all those centuries ago, he betrayed marcy as well. i think he was so bitter that not only did he literally stab her in the back, but he revealed a secret that he knew would drive a rift between her and her friends.
but he cared. in anne's own words, he closed himself off from the world, but as the latest episode showed, he truly, deeply cared about marcy, and in the end gave up his cause to beg anne to "save marcy. you must... save marcy." even as he was fatally wounded. i think it's too late to make amends. i don't think marcy can forgive him for what he did. but at the very least, it was not too late to save marcy. i don't know if he'll survive the finale, but if he doesn't, he can at least die knowing marcy was saved.
He survived. Also Marcy kinda just forgave him straight away maybe. I'm not too sure.
Yeah he lived and was punished to rebuild the places he destroyed in Amphibia but he actually came to enjoy it as see in the end.

You really need to do this video again with the newest episodes dude! King Andrias' development really is pushed forward in such an emotional way.
Maybe after I do a video discussing my thoughts on S3, I'll do another one of these showing why I appreciate Andrias' character a lot, since I'm one of the few people that actually liked him before our new insights brought up during S3, but I'm glad you enjoyed my thoughts!

My only regret is that we never got to see The Core possesing 'Dreas and transform into a huge monster like in the rune!!!!
@@edizicu9853 It's because the monster is symbolic of the Core's extreme greed and megalomania. Matt even said so on his Twitter account that it "[was]n't some monster the girls [were] gonna fight."
Look at The Core and The King, it shows a lot more about Andrias' and a lot more than pride, your video was amazing, btw!

Just wow, you got everything, I don't know if it could possibly have been said better. Andrias was one of my favorite villains and it just felt satisfying watching him throughout the series. Understanding his story and past made the S3 finale final battle that much more impactful. Well done good sir
Thank You! Indeed, it was fascinating to see how we get to know him more and more as the show went on and we saw the source of his corruption. But, this was made before we got to see all that in S3, and I still loved him as a villain and as a character, so I'm glad you enjoyed!
This deserves way more attention than it has, you did a really good job at summarizing andrias along with his morals and like you said, his pride. Just deserves more than what’s it’s getting and you did a great job.

While all you said is true, recent developments have revealed how even such an openly villainous person can actually still be sympathetic on some level. Andrias is proud, yes, of his kingdom and its former greatness, but he is just as desperate for the one thing he's never been able to get: his father's approval and respect. The Core has been ruthlessly manipulating him and, very likely, his entire bloodline, for millennia.
He's not redeemed, but he's at least a little relatable to anyone who's had a domineering parent/demanding family. Friends and such are great, but it's the people you live with who shape you the most, for better or for worse.
yeah, I know a lot of new insights have been revealed now in S3, which I may make another video to discuss all that's been brought up. However, this was made before we had a glimpse of Andrias in the past, before we knew that he was actually pressured into this situation as King. Before we knew that he was just a kid that had the pressure of living up to what his bloodline expected of him, he was simply a king that wanted his chance at conquest
This deserves WAY more attention.

The writers and producers did an amazing job on this episode and season! Keith David is such a talented actor, and I love the scenes with Sasha sulking and being conflicted 😐.

really liked this analysis of Andrias, though I do have a recommendation. Maybe turn down the background music down some more or raise the volume level for your speaking in the audio edit, it is a little hard hearing you over the music
Yeah, I've struggled with that, which is why I double check, triple, even quadruple check with my relatives on it to see if there's anything I need to do before the upload, same thing with my scripts so I can get as input on them as possible. Good note though, I'll definitely keep that in mind

That line is so small, yet speaks colossal volumes to both Andrias' character, and the story of Amphibia. Really was the icing on the cake to make him one of my favorite characters from the show

I have some other script ideas at the moment, it might just take some time since I like to have them proof read, and the ones that do that for me... don't have as much free time as me lol. I'm really one of those quality over quantity channels, which I know don't get as popular, but, it's what I like to do, so I hope people can understand and be patient. We all have lives outside of our content, and it can be hard to work around it all

Hmmmmm, maybe, have some other villains in mind that I want to cover at the moment, but I do think it would be fun to go over one of her scenes, she can be VERY intimidating in some of them
I do not know if that was his fake persona. Latest episodes nudged me fowards the idea his maniacal side being persona he puts on to be what his Father wants.

Good review! I think King Andrias is a genuinely interesting character. It‘s just heartwrenching to me that he turned out to be not that wholesome.
At the end of day he was originally a good person who was twisted by his father and the core and maybe subtle mind control
This video perfectly encapsulates why andrias is not only my favorite villian in amphibia, my fovarite character in general, but he is my pick for the best animated antagonist in animation history! I even prefer him to bill cipher. I love bill, but he barely appeared, and andrias is more prominent.

I love this video. I’m gonna rewatch amphibia on Disney +. Pride is one of the seven deadly sins. It is different from from a lions pride but they both reflect on how Andrias wanted a pride of friends like lions but instead he took the seven deadly sins pride similar to dragon ball’s vegeta who talks about ancestral saiyan pride just like Andrias. Get reflection.

I wouldn't really say a "grudge" towards Marcy to be honest. That doesn't really feel right.
Yeah, even looking back it doesn't fit, but it just worked the best for me while I was writing the script for this, so I didn't really think too much else on changing it.

I think Andries’s only flaw is that he’s yet another Disney twist villain who was secretly evil the whole time.
And being manipulated by an even worse villain: *THE CORE*. Plus, Andrias doesn't really want to be evil; he was also secretly guilty and desperate for a way back to what made him happy in the past.
He is a good example of a twist villain, as his personality didn't do a complete flip. He maintains his fun quirkiness while displaying his pride and pain. His switch is actually believable and his character didn't collapse bc of it.

I'm really curious, how do you feel about what the show did later with Andrias? The whole reveal with the Core and how Andrias has been basically pressured by his ancestors into doing this. Does this diminish him as a villain? Make him more tragic?
I personally found it interesting and cool to see that they gave him a specific motivation behind how he came to act as the tyrant we see him in S2. He genuinely seemed like a good prince, especially with how he cared about his connection to his friends, but it has the tragic pressure of his father, his ancestors, and their legacy that he unfortunately was forced into caring more about what they stood for instead of caring about the connections that he has outside of his family

While I do agree with that statement, the last one was really crazy, I just want to clarify that this was written/made before those episodes aired, this was basically made with a S2 only perspective

Possibly, there was a lot that was brought up, not just in "All In," but throughout the entire 3rd season that has changed our outlook on him. Just kinda stock pilled on my script ideas rn, so maybe down the road I can do it.
