- www.gamersgate.... - Activates on Steam, this is a better deal for EU and US purchasers I think, plus it more directly supports the publisher.
Magicka is a game I've been looking forward to for a while and it does not disappoint. If this does not end up being a smash hit this year then I will hold you all personally responsible.
If you'd like your game featured on our WTF is? series, please contact PR[at]cynicalbrit.com.
I am also Swedish, and dunka-dunka means party, loud music, and a fat beat. It's legitimate!
One of my favorite WTF... May one of the greatest game critics rest in peace
what??? What do you mean?
@@saladnchill Totalbiscuit died some years ago of cancer.
@@Kathrynerius oh my... Rest well...
I discovered that now...
It seemed to be a nice guy
RIP ❤
Legends never die. Rest in peace, TotalBiscuit
He's dead?
Yes, many years ago now. Cancer. We all miss him still.
I decided to replay this game recently, and after so many years away, I still remember the swenglish dialogue word-for-word.
It only crashed 3 times, too!
I needed this to reappear, I miss when times were simpler, and we all looked forward to was a yogscast colab on an amazing game with an amazing creator. WTF is 2024
I'm just glad this video exists at all.
What they're speaking is not Swedish. I'm Swedish so I would know.
It's like a parody of Swedish however.
Dunka dunka is not a word nor a phrase in Swedish either, but it's like the "Unntss unntsss" here in Sweden.
Regular Original it's English people that's tries to talk in swedish
I knew it! Definitely sounds like a joke version of a language.
@@carlfabian4640Nah, the dev team are Swedish doing Swedish Chef voices as a joke. Honestly still love it years later lol
The language in this game is a mixup between old swedish and some madeup funny language :)
Dunka-dunka hahaha
no such thin gas fnyx or not
omg TB's voice has gotten so much deeper in just 3 years, did he have a second pair of balls that dropped or something?!
Yay,I'm not the only one who thinks that!
I hear it the same
i think he is just becoming more cynical by the day
Better setup. More professional microphone, better sound mixer, better surroundings for his review talkovers.
Better mic.
I remember watching this video when TB originally uploaded this, re-watching it after the 1 year anniversary of TB's passing... Makes me sad. :c
I think that the Staff of the White Wizard: is Gandalf the white's staff! Which means LOTR reference!!!
There's plenty of references, at the farm, TB missed the sword in the stone. Of course, our magicians aren't the chosen ones, so they just take the sword while keeping the stone attached to it.
.....That's pretty rad!
Lewtable in wizard wars you also get the excelsior line, a reference to grim fandango
MrRamram720 I unfortunately have not yet played the "Cult classic" Grim Fandango....
Lewtable There also was a Staff of life next to the plants at the top of the farm. You can also check your equipment by pressing Tab.
This is one of the best WTF Is. TB will never be forgoten
Love when I'm looking up old games I've never heard of and find a WTF Is video. Love totalbiscuit, much love mans RIP
It's english-swedish-gibberish
This is fucking hilarious, I must have spent the last 2-3 hours watching several reviews from you, and you my good man are THE most awesome person at reviewing games.
Keep up the good work I will definitely follow you from now on :-D
TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit
Hello. You are obviously a well listened to game reviewer so you must be doing things right! But, respectfully speaking, I do have one suggestion for you to make your videos even better than they already are--equalize your voice volume a little better.
For instance, when you first were being silent and letting us hear the game, the game's volume was very low so I had to increase the volume of my speakers to hear it. Then when you started speaking again, since I'd turned up the volume to hear the game, your voice was so loud, it may have woken the entire neighborhood!
I apologize if my terminology about equalizing volume is lacking. Hopefully I explained my suggestion well enough to be understood.
Thanks for the review, I look forward to checking out many more of your video productions!
Your newest subscriber,
Daniel
It's so hilarious to me as a native Norwegian - and therefore a Swedish-understander, I hear certain words, in several places, that are actual Nordic words. And the tone of it all is definitely Swedish. A master piece.
Im swedish and I can't say I've ever heard anyone say "dunka dunka" and been seriously about to party. Maybe heard some 5 or 6 year old say it when bashing his hands on the kitchen table. Basically like saying let's "boom boom" or "hootenanny", something in those lines. Totally ridiculous! Although I can say it sounds hilarious when they try to speak swedish in this game and I can most certainly tell these guys aren't native swedes, they just can't be!
I just picked this up (+DLC) with the new Humble Bundle, and I'm glad I did this looks great :)
I just love how he talked to those old guys at the table, while. when you have played through the entire game you'll realize that what they are saying ties into the story of the game.
This game is fucking amazing.
This video made me laugh out loud so hard. Thank you TB for being so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Also, love the accent.
I will for ever miss my favourite and the best game critics there ever was :)
Some semi-swedish-ish language - simply wonderful! Sounds like some englishman got the noble task of directly translate what he heard... :-D
This was the first video I saw from TotalBiscuit and I had a damn good laugh back then. Loved watching his reviews ever since after that. Only today I realized that he passed away .... Made me really fukin sad. Rest in peace funny guy
TB, This is probably your best video on your channel. I've seen it over 3 times, and your reactions are hilarious!
Fire+Water=steam. Don't cast meteor shower without a shield.
You can use the ASASS beam for the whole game.
First time I saw this video I went and bought a 4-pack on Steam! Awesome video! And a fun game!
I liek the game, but it is really unbalanced. Some spells is 1000 times better than others. for example the DDDDD can 1-hit any foe in the game!
1 other video? more like an ENTIRE series with someone everyone should know.
"Stay a while and listen and I will tell you a story" "oh dear" XD
When you are a magicka fan
And you just want to watch a magicka vid
But you start to cry
Because it is a nostalgia for you after you look at menu
I feel you. my first game at my family's. my first and upmost favourite. always and forever. been playing it what seems all my life
Flash sale right now for $2.50 USD.
Almost bought it yesterday :P
Crackingseen i am literally punching myself for not buying it when i wanted to on the flash sale.... now its 10 bucks but rightfully so!
"It's Gauntlet"
That sells it for me. I've been wanting to see a game like this for a long time.
I bet you forgot you made this comment
i miss this game.
HIS VOICE IS SO HIGH COMPARED TO NOW
As said. That is not swedish. It's a gibberish mix with some swedish and english words thrown in. "Dunka dunka" is old stuffy swedish jargong for rock or other music disliked by the older generation.
"YOU KNOW NOTHING BUT little.............................................."
Truly. We all may know nothing but little. Such a powerful remark on the ephemerality of life, and the inevitability of death. Such raw emotion, such paradigm questioning. Only a great mind could have possibly conjured the thought.
I wish TB knew at that moment how to cast the Meteor Shower, because he would have probably bursted after seeing a rain of meteors and one falling on top of his head, instakilling him xD
SKA VI GRILLA? 16:33
Magicka is Mana in Skyrim.
Oh really? Nobody gives a shit
The person who liked it does :)
Akif Çelik persons :)
Albert Varland except the people who dont know WTF magicka is
MIDDLE CLICK!!! Use middle click to cast on yourself TB! Oh god, it's amazingly fun to watch someone just mess around in a game.
after half an hour he already stated that we need to buy this game. This is not a professional first impression. Let's remind him 3 years later
im not crying your crying !!!
Got to love the Swengrish jibberish language in this game ;)
My favorite thing about this is, there is a mobile Magicka, and while it does not have puzzles, it does have combat and spell combining with buddies, love Magicka
"Ska vi grilla?"
Jaaaa!
good review. But I can't believe how on earth you forgot how to heal urself!!! *facepalm*
Miss you man.
a game closely resembled to this (combining a vast amount of spells) was lost magic for the ds. what was cool about the game was you had to draw the spells with your stylus, and the strength of the spell was determined on how well you could write it.
Someone asked me what Magicka was. Brought them to this video.
Oh gosh. I forgot what your voice sounded like, TB.
I just. Oh gosh. I missed it.
This was the video that started all to me. I never give a fuck about "reviews" and just picked the "flavor of the month" when it concerned games. My friend showed me this review because we wanted to buy the game and were not sure about it and TB totally sold us this game i subscribed him and since that time i wised up and stoped to buy games blind i was wait for some review... It's really strange to me now that he is gone, i will miss his streams and shoutouts =[[
The day Totalbiscuit was defeated by some spilled wine
I'm acctually half Brittish myself, My Mom, Nana, Grandpa, and Aunt all came from Illford. There's an exchange-student program at my school that would allow me to go to England as a senior, I'm looking forward to it very much. I love your voice by the way, I still repeat to myself what you said to Simon when you did a walkthrough of Magica with him and Lewis. "You are the most obvious jihadist I've ever seen!" LOL LOL LOL.
That's true. But what TotalBiscuit was referring to in this video as "Air" at about 26:20 is actually Steam, and as I said, that's what you get when you combine fire and water. Steam does damage, causes knockback and makes enemies wet. Air does not cause damage or make enemies wet. Also, you cannot cast a spell that includes any element and also includes air, whereas you can cast a spell which includes an element plus steam. This is further proof that the element in meteor shower is not air.
everytime biscuit skipped a place where he could find a weapon or a spell book, i died a little
The language they speak seems to be a mix of various north european languages because Vlad said "monster i skogen" which is norwegian for "monsters in the forest" which is kinda the same as "monsters roaming the lands"
The new campaign is also very short; it’s possible to finish its three chapters in less than an hour-and-a-half. You get the feeling that the difficulty was perhaps intended to add to its longevity.
A big selling point is that it’s not necessary that your friends buy it if you want them to play with you. As long as you host, anyone is able to join in. so just take magika and if a friend has stars are left dlc then you can play with him without owning that dlc is enought if host has that dlc.
The staff of the white wizard. Its design made me smile.
Man I forgot how great the main menu interface was before it got filled with DLC, licensing, and other retarded crap.
Actually the "Air" is what happens when you cast a spell without using any elements. It is useful for getting enemies away from yourself or knocking them off cliffs.
Just bought the Collection during the Steam Sale...on a whim....this review is epically perfect for my random purchase...cant wait to play now.
Gabriele you bought the wrong game. That is Magicka Wizards of Squafe Tablet. Youre genious.
It's actually more norwegian words in this game than swedish.. None it makes any sense, but time to time, you can hear norwegian words mixed in. Which actually is the correct word :P Since I'm norwegian, this is just hillarious :P I have played the game, and it's awesome ;)
because back in the day alchemists created their own secret coded way of talking as a way of deffence. If someone found an alchemist book that was not an alchemist he would say that it's just random words and throwing the powerful knowledge away.
"How could this be bad?" a LOT of bugs (as of release, of course), a LOT of them. As of the last version, the game is a masterpiece. But it was released too early. =)
18:02 "AHA, GRANDFATHERCLOCK!!!" "YOU HAVE MET YOUR MATCH!!!"
You don't really think high of yourself when you compare yourself with a clock, do you xD
This video was awesome btw ;) One of the best "WTF Is..." ;D
I'm thinking about getting this game sometime this week. It looks like something I can really get into
For anyone watching who was wondering:
"Air" is Steam. Water + Fire.
Casting on yourself = Middle Mouse button.
Dunka dunka, is slang for what the speakers make out of the Base. So it's acually not something we Swedes use.
MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON
...I don't think he can hear me back in time, since that's the nature of linear recorded media, but I SHALL CONTINUE YELLING TO HELP HIM REMEMBER
The two rules of magicka:
1st: Always kill people you think will talk to you.
2nd: Never use thunderbolt when you're in a co-op party.
If I remember correctly "dunka dunka" is Swedish for "thump thump" (or something along those lines) not that it really makes any more sense than before.
I know what "dunka dunka" is, however, it's a word from an old dialect in Finland so it's not an actual swedish word. It means "to knock hard on something". I guess if the party gets really loud and people begin to dance alot it could be called a "dunka dunka" party? xD
Well, "dunka dunka" does exist as an expression. It's something old people say to descripe young-people music. Perhaps a rather regional expression, or rather rare, but it does exist.
im nearly going to get a hearth attack when i see your profile picture
I wouldn't call it mines. It creates an ice wall that extends forward and damages enemies around them with elecricity and arcane. After a while they explode for arcane damage. The total damage is about the same as the thunder blow magkie, but it can hit multiple enemies and you don't need a recipe.
"Leg it! Ddddddddddd!" I lost my shit.
The old intro is.....epic
the best part of this game is that two players can play it on the same pc if one use a controller while the other use the keyboard.
We learned a lesson today, do not trust the Mr.Biscuit with magic.
Anything that uses shield to place down an element in a line, half-circle, or full-circle, I usually classify as mines. Arcane mines, life mines, fire walls, even the rain clouds. But yeah.
Kind of a dumb comment, isn't it? How would you even make this work on console? Casting spells often requires mouse precision, so it would be pretty clumsy with a controller, trying to move the cursor with an analog stick. And how about the buttons? You need 8 separate buttons just for inputting spell elements, then one to fire spells, one for self-cast, one for area cast, one for melee, one for general actions, and two to scroll through Magickas. That means you would have to use the Back button
Game is alright. I like the combo concept but it is just too much to remember.
BUT this is really the only game where I put my Logitech G15 gaming keyboard with its 54 macros to the fullest use!! For that alone, I rate this game a 9.5/10
You know how they say cheese in front dunka dunka in the back. Well in sweden everything is in the front... except our hair ofc, we only let that grow in the back.
"Dunka dunka" Is a phrase in swedish that means like... "Untz untz- music."
“Awesome! Your all healed up!” *shudder*
"LOL we sent titzaner fritzel down to look for you" TB says "Yay a saussage"
There was a similar game mechanic in the game called 'legend' a long long time ago
I was! thankfully, he remembers in his now 14-part series.
I like it how TB turns into Jon Irenicus at about 16 minute mark.
I wonder what TB would think about the current youtube situation. He would probably have to rename this series because "WTF" might get you demonetized :D
"stay a while and listen" Gee, where have I heard that before?
THAT, KIDS, IS WHAT WE CALL SHORT TERM MEMORY.
Gamersgate is missing 4 of the DLCs in their collection. If you include those 4 DLCs into the $3 Collection, it comes out to be the same price as steam.
I'm upset he didnt get the white wizard reference to Gandalf, it even glows
during this whole video I was shouting at my screen "middle mouse! middle mouse!"
I remember gauntlet... Still own it and play it some times to this date. A truly fun game that one.
It is also not taken seriously as a term in Sweden. Also, they aren't actually talking swedish, it's more... Swedish Chef language. Some swedish words mixed with nonsense words and not a lot of structure, and the actors are trying to voice it in a silly way.
In short, it sounds just as silly to us as it does to you.
Actually it sounds much more like 'Simlish' (it's the language spoken by all characters in the 'Sims' games series, you know) to me. Might indeed be a mix between Eastern European languages like Russian and Polish and Scandinavian languages like Norwegian and Swedish. So propably TB is not completly wrong. At least that's how it sound to me as a Kraut who travelled around Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. ;)
Rip 2022, Still missed
nooooooooooo. I was waiting for like 10 minutes for you to get the part with Navi but she didn't appear... =(
