@@tatri292 Doesn't take away from my point though, since typically while speedrunning not only do you strive to finish the game as fast as possible (i.e. play as little of it as possible), but you'd usually want to utilize glitches where possible to skip as much of it as you can as well.
Great video! The Monki run: Make a perfect Monki in spore. This challenge is a little rng heavy, but if anyone can become Monki, it is you. The run ends when you look like a monki
This game always gave me this feeling of "what if in the future they remake it fron the start." Its one of thos games where the concept is simple but the computer will never simulate it properly. Now with machine learning we might get actual evolution in a game but what about in 80 years? Maybe we will one day get a complete spore .
imo, Spore's gameplay works because it is not simulating actual evolution. The problem with basing a game off of evolution is that natural selection is something that happens by itself, meaning that as a player there's nothing to do except sit back and watch. In Spore, evolution is simply thematic, while most of the game progression comes from the player's actions and the player's part in designing / upgrading their creature. Spore's execution of concept is actually really, really good, about as good as you could hope for even if you were to remake it with current technology. I'm not saying there isn't a way to make a game that uses natural selection as a primary game mechanic, but I don't really think it would be anything like Spore. It would not be a remake of Spore, but something completely new and different.
@VoltDenatsu Cell stage and creature stages are okay. Tribal stage is awful, it's kinda enjoyable but really bland. Civilization stage is a very good stage, I just wish it had more to it so I hope they rework on that. Space stage is my favorite stage, I enjoyed for the fact that my species were growing and growing, it felt like an actual journey. The journey of my species from a tiny little cell to a dominant interstellar space-faring species. Want to know the history of my species? Look at the comment below.
There is a game that tries to simulate true evolution but the gameplay is literally just watching critters evolve. It’s called Species: Artificial Life, Real Evolution. You can do things like irradiate or resurrect individuals but I don’t know if there’s anything new to do aside from sit back and watch the mess unfold. The last time I played it was at least 3 years ago lol
I find it interesting that since you haven't altered the creature in any way, the image is the same top down view as the starter cell image. When you're in cell phase, the cell editor acts as if the cell is 2D with parts being aligned to face up. But when you leave cell phase, the eyes for example become misaligned, pointing up in opposite directions. So the fact the image didn't change is impressive. Whenever I play Spore in the galactic phase, I sometimes go to the timeline and scroll all the way back to cell phase, and I feel a bit sad seeing how much my creature has changed since then.
I wish the game did evolution a little more realistically. You can switch parts out like lego blocks as long as you have the DNA points for it. It'd be nice to only allow gradual changes, or allow new developments based on certain actions, like if you use a poison spit a lot, it will start to develop on its own. Jaws can change, but change shape gradually. And so on.
@@SwordTune This. Also, I wish the fish stage was a thing. Suddenly spawning hands and legs without ever having fins just feels so strange. Also, better tails would be nice, and would naturally follow as a fish stage needs tail support.
@@peperoni_pepino There used to be an Aquatic stage apparently, but it was too resource intensive, and there were problems with glitches and bugs. But it would certainly have been and interesting thing, and would have added more variation to the game, not to mention more (hopefully) enjoyable gameplay. I always liked the cell-creature stages. The creature stage is potentially the longest. After that, you have the tribal and civ stages, which feel kind of rushed and not very detailed. And the space stage really doesn't have a real goal. Sure, reaching the galactic core is a common goal, but even after you've done that, the game goes on as if nothing changed. It's really just about collecting awards and treasures. So if we could have gotten more stages and things to do, then Spore would have gotten much better. It's still a great game, but it could have been more

@@tatri292 Doesn't take away from my point though, since typically while speedrunning not only do you strive to finish the game as fast as possible (i.e. play as little of it as possible), but you'd usually want to utilize glitches where possible to skip as much of it as you can as well.

Great video! It's fun to see unique challenge runs in this style - as a viewer I really appreciate being able to see (and hear!) what makes the run unique and interesting without having to watch the entire session. Thanks for taking the time to do this run, and the extra time to do the editing and voiceover!
this game was so ahead of time. still amazes me
And yet it could have been so much more. I have fond memories of Spore but I'll always wish for the more complex version they had planned in the beginning.

I love civilization stage too, but my first experience with it was hilarious. I spent the first 10 minutes being attacked by an epic that would 2 shot my turrets. I just had to wait to get enough money so I could place a turret that would do like ten damage and then be destroyed, rinse repeat.
that happened to me but the turrets obliterated the epic easily
So happy to see SPORE still being played and alive. Love this game

Monki is wrong. Monkey is also wrong. Monke is right.
This game always gave me this feeling of "what if in the future they remake it fron the start."
Its one of thos games where the concept is simple but the computer will never simulate it properly.
@VoltDenatsu
Cell stage and creature stages are okay.

Wanted to have an excuse to share my creature lol
There is a game that tries to simulate true evolution but the gameplay is literally just watching critters evolve. It’s called Species: Artificial Life, Real Evolution.
You can do things like irradiate or resurrect individuals but I don’t know if there’s anything new to do aside from sit back and watch the mess unfold. The last time I played it was at least 3 years ago lol
That guy's beating Spore faster than I can even decide which eyes to put on my cell
I thought I was the only one
It's still a great game, but it could have been more
@@SwordTune it's realistic enough, considering evolution isn't even real 👉😎👉
