I want to know why they chose to cap the framerate at 45 FPS. It's such a weird, arbitrary number; I'd expect games to either be capped at 30 FPS or 60 FPS. EDIT: Also, why did they think a "Push to Talk" button would be an acceptable omission?
Hello TB. I would like to give you a sincere thank you, because I literally was just looking at this game in Steam yesterday. I was considering buying it just because I wanted a new game. It looked okay, but then I saw you did this review and watched it, and I am so glad you saved me the money. Not that it would have been that big of a deal, but still. So thank you. Keep up the good work.
Kid Icarus: Rising's rendition of Hades - A complete joy almost every single time he gets screen time. This game's rendition of Hades - WILL SOMEONE SHUT HIM UP!!!
TB the Upgrades does change the appearance of the weapons, but you have to buy the upgrade to know. Such as the SMG lvl 2 Accuracy upgrade has added both a Scope and a Lazer Dot to the SMG
this game looks fairly solid looking at gameplay, and it might even be fun. it just suffers from to many fatal errors that make the game unplayable (mouse accel, always talk, low fps default)
You can actually use the ability more than once in a match, if you get enough kills and subsequently "Rage". I've never crashed ingame. Took me about 3 hours to get to ~lv6... Different maps have different strategies, one of them you have to capture trebuchés to get through gates etc. The zombies and things stammer about the place when shot with the double-barrel... The Heal ability will heal in a radius, thus helping your friends.
God Mode, overall, is definitely not good. It can certainly be good, I like it, but it feels incomplete. I feel like the designers started to make a game, but got to this point and decided to work on something else.
Thank you for this vid. Nicely put. And good examples about actual games within this range of games. I think a lot of people have said that already, but this helped a lot now. Thanks again!
Didn't know about the arena, so that counts, the rest isn't really a "Horde mode" Just a Horde of enemies, it doesn't structure itself like one. (rounds, or waves of enemies, preparation time, Limited space)
Hey guys, just so you know, if you click about and show more, and click John Bain, then you now know that totalbiscut is in Pocahontas 2. Fun facts, my friends.
I love this game. I maxed level very quickly and sadly the max is only 20 or so, once you buy every weapon, every ability, every player skin I was left wanting more, I hope there is an update soon that adds tons more stuff. and hook up a controller and it auto detects so that's good as well.
5 years late here but if anyone cares: at the time and probably still now, a frame rate that isn't a multiple of 30 leads to clunky, jittery performance. Same goes for a fluctuating frame rate. Hence 45, while being more than 30, feels much worse than 30.
Actually, no, this is blatantly wrong. The game just needs to wait until the next vsync cycle. As a result, when vsync is enabled, the game is throttled, unable to output more frames than the monitor's maximum. But that gives only a *maximum* framerate. I don't know why you believe this but 45 frames definitely do NOT feel "much worse" than 30.
Weapons actualy do change, you just have to buy the upgrade first, you won't see what it changes until you buy the actual upgrade, I just noticed it's pretty cool
Sounds like it's a good thing I held off on this. I'll stick to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer which, as you guessed earlier, certainly has gotten much better since launch.
Barney Harris That's the point...somehow. Because, it actually was time waste, even if you somehow enjoyed the other persons thoughts or opinion about something... by that saying...I think the theme is time wasting, not the person speaking(TB) :D
TB cares a lot about making quality videos for his fans, a huge number of the vids he makes never see youtube because they aren't up to par with the rest of his stuff. He doesn't not take requests to spite his fans, he does it because he wants to give us useful advice on purchasing new games.
1: I got to level 5 in 2 hours of play 2: I love the voice and the whole Hades-theme 3: The framerate is no problem 3: I'm not insanely impatient like you and I survive with the same weapons for 30 WHOLE minutes
dubson965 TotalBiscuit expects a certain level of quality; binding dodge and sprint to the same key is rather stupid and is a valid complaint. He's making valid complaints here, even if you don't view them as such. A review isn't, as much as you would like to think, a collection of objective facts. It's mostly the reviewer's interpretation and his *subjective* views. It's fair that you don't want to listen to him, it's not like anyone is forcing you to, but he isn't "raging hard for no reason". NoMainer Gaming 1: A valid argument. 2: Subjective. 3: The freezing is, though. 3(4?): It's not about being impatient, it's about being bored, not about being impatient. Even if you're fine with it, others aren't going to be fine with the same boring weapons, which is another thing that just makes the experience feel all the more repetitive.
the game was updated since 2013 bro. its better now but still a bit. eh... i like it tho, get some high lvl friends with minigun gun and god mode, put some oaths, 4-3 you can get lvl 11+ in 3 h, expecially playing in gold/silver
i've only played about 5 hours and i'm lvl 11, at first i thought i would be very lengthy but actually getting through level helps alot, and gold isn't that hard to get because at the end of every level there is a gold level where you can just pick it up. And you can actually help your friends by purchasing a new ability that can heal. not i've only played with a friend but that was the easiest way to join i've seen for a long time. admittedly there are bugs but for 10 euro i think it's good.
If anyone is turned off by the long time to level up thing. It is not hard to level up if u stay in a game. at level 12 I still use the revolver from level 2 as with the upgrades it is amazing. Just play on bronze and finish games to get pretty good xp and gold as well as using the sword oath and buy the revolver instead of the double barrel and then just beast with it
PureN2o He has a setup that could easily cost over 1.5k u.s. dollars. (No idea on the conversion rate to Euros). And he talks about usually running things at 120 fps or more. So yes. He is EXTREMELY spoiled by his pc. As a former console gamer, I can't even tell the difference between 30 fps and 60.
It seems like it is a good idea in concept, but needs a nice polishing like scaling for amount of people playing, more enemy variety, maybe a boss, and more mechanics like other upgrades.
I'm gonna pop in here with some information for you! Currently most monitors are 60Hz, which is 60 updates per second. A locked 45fps game will not snap perfectly to the refresh of most monitors which creates the feeling of sluggishness as the monitor constantly repeats frames, then skips one. Locked at 30 is a much better experience. Going above the refresh rate doesn't give more FPS, but a more accurate response to the current screen. This is the cause for "tearing" and why V-Sync exists.
The tests of faith act as objectives or variances to each segment of level which change how you approach the sections. There is at least one ability that promotes co-op play which is the healing power.
I played this game for 4 hours in total and managed to get to level 7 and unlock 3 new weapons, several upgrades for each of them, new ability + upgrade and a few cosmetic items. The grind isn't as huge as TB makes it to be... You basically can unlock something after each match.
To anyone who finds this and thinks a horde game with some kinda mythology added in sounds good check out 'Strange Brigade' can be played found on steam and co-op played by 4 people both in horde mode and the story and it is not just a horde shooter straight up.
I agree with both of you. Thing is you there re extensions that do exactly what you mentioned nearly as good as the native implementation of the feature. For a cinema like mood, there's "Turn of the lights" (Chrome), think there's the same for Firefox and "Stylish" for customizing the website with templates.
"ForceStrategy" is what he said. The channel is ForceStrategyGaming I believe. He's a pretty cool guy, I used to like his channel but it's just gaming news now. Worth checking out definitely.
I really like your after-commentary. you should do this more often, it's much more enjoyable to watch you play the game, because you're actually concentrating on what you're doing. and you commentary is also better, because you don't miss out on obvious things.
Yes,you really have to put some time into it to make it viable and get better equips, however,it is faster solo with a few Oaths groups slow down your xp gains truthfully, just be a good shot and tear through silver solo you'll be 10+ in no time flat.
17:50 not weapon upgrades. New weapons that may be better or just side grades. In the end it's a race to get the best weapon for each class which happens really quickly.
Why is there "Zombie" and "Corpse"? I agree on horde mode length. I liked the arena mode in Dawn of War 2, but thought it went too long in Warhammer 40k: Space Marine. I recognize the announcer voice. Did he do demon door voices, or maybe the oracle statues in Fable? Or maybe it was the Greek statue guys in Kingdoms of Amalur. I haven't played either in so long, I can't remember.
well its sort of a horde mod at a whole. however it does have a horde mode (the arena) where you basically need to survive against an unlimited amount of enemies for as far as you can. btw, if you play god of war at its highest difficulty level, the amount of enemies you're playing against does make it feel sort of like a horde kind of game
i'll go back to the wolfenstein 3d mention. you could easily run out of ammo if you wasted it, and you still had 4 guns to chose from. Enemies didn't drop guns (except the blue guy who dropped his machine gun first time). Quake had more weapons and you usually conserved ammo on the 'consumable' type weapons. I miss the older days.
I need to say I am into the game for 8 hours with 3 buddies. And we had lots of fun. We leveld up very fast, and earned money pretty good. The map firehole on silver difficulty and with 3 modifiers its pretty easy to get some money. The only thing that bothers me is that there are only 5 or 6 maps I think...and the mob spawns are always the same.
Oh for god sake.. I do really agree. Yes some of the features like mute voice is missing, but a singleplayer game takes like roughly 20-30 minutes, it is scaled very well, and you earn lots of money and xp per game. One singleplayer game with one oath caused me to jump from level 2 to level 4.
Hey biscuit, the aviator glasses are not "aviator style sunglasses" but "actual headgear of old school pilots with open cabin planes", hence the name :)
Well leveling up your favourite weapon for example. On the other hand I still play Doom once in a while (Zandronium) and that has all the weapons available at the start. its just really, really fast, varied, simple to play and fun.
That actually kind of sounds like fun. Basically make a puzzle game - you have this machine and these options for game soandso, make it run at 60 FPS or other requirements.
I wouldn't mind giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I didn't think the gameplay was going to be this shallow, as it appears to be (to me) now. That, and I really don't like bothering with a weapons unlocking system like that unless I'm really, really into the game. To pass my standards (which may be high, I admit), the progression curve to unlock the basic array of weapons needs to be much more lenient. But that's only my opinion. I appreciate you taking a moment to tell me though. Thanks.
The leveling only seemed slow due to you starting at lvl 0, so TB had already leveled once in his short playtime. In the end though his points stand. Had a bit of fun with 2 friends with this game today but don't think we'll pick it up again anytime soon.
he actually did. the video was deleted shortly after having been uploaded, never to be seen again. (because of different reasons, but it sounds funny :))
This is a first impressions video; If he spent more than two hours on this game, he couldn't put WTF Is in the title, because that's what this series is about. TB is a critic, and in his first impressions videos he points out all the flaws that he sees when he first starts playing. Many of the games get better later, but people who watch WTF Is watch it because they want an opinion on the early gameplay.
I honestly don't get the comments about the grind aspect of the game. I own it and within 2 incomplete games I was level 2 and 1/2. After being able to buy the revolver I was able to kill the boss and finish the level and then get to level 3 and 2/3. I don't know if TB just sucks at 3rd person shooters or what, but I found the game very easy to level up in. After 6-8 games I am now at level 8. I am a hordemode fan and I love this game.
The game is still in its infantsy and is developed but a developer that's is new to the game industry. This is an amazing game considering those factors. Not to mention Killing floor is developed by tripwire interactive, known for many popular titles like Red Orchestra.
TB or anyone else who can answer, regarding frame rate...I played Warframe and it had a weird feel to the movement/action, is this an impact of frame rate?
maybe it's cause this is an earlier build of the game but I don't agree with what he says about how much grinding you have to do, I have like an hour an a half of play time and i'm level 4 and you get a buttload of XP and gold per game
RIP. Its 2022 and your still missed. (I wish UA-cam would stop making me change my memorial comment every 20-ish videos. When did they implement this new annoyance??)
Lets just say Unreal Tournament (i dont know if its 1999 or 2004) as a very special place in my heart(tends to happen wend you dad only buys games for himself and you are still 7).
There seriously needs to be an option to customize your own UA-cam layout. Change the layout from this to older and older and so forth, or enable, disable whatever you please.
I mean... that is literally what a first look is and that is what he is doing. He jumps into the game and plays it a little and gave us his initial opinions. He delivered exactly what he was supposed to.
Really no one is online at all. But I still got it and I find playing it solo fun. The game is pretty challenging. This game is a case of different strokes for different folks.
What I have learned from this video: Killing Floor is an amazing game.
Rest in peace totalbiscuit. We miss you.
I want to know why they chose to cap the framerate at 45 FPS. It's such a weird, arbitrary number; I'd expect games to either be capped at 30 FPS or 60 FPS.
EDIT: Also, why did they think a "Push to Talk" button would be an acceptable omission?
I miss you man. Rest in Peace.

The humor makes me think they looked at Kid Icarus: Uprising and thought "Hey, we could try that!" Except they failed.
Just want to come and say how much I miss you. Game reviewers like yong yes and others are obvious shills
The announcer reminds me of Stewie Griffin.
I checked my task manager when your game froze up. Thought flash was fucking this up. :)
this game looks fairly solid looking at gameplay, and it might even be fun. it just suffers from to many fatal errors that make the game unplayable (mouse accel, always talk, low fps default)
Also, thanks for the vid. I was actually going to buy this game at some point because I had some hopes for variety. Saved me some money, so thanks!
You can actually use the ability more than once in a match, if you get enough kills and subsequently "Rage". I've never crashed ingame. Took me about 3 hours to get to ~lv6... Dat voice acting. I'm going to harm myself.
God Mode, overall, is definitely not good. It can certainly be good, I like it, but it feels incomplete. I feel like the designers started to make a game, but got to this point and decided to work on something else.
even better if its free xD
"it takes ages to level up"
*plays exclusively on bronze difficulty*
Thank you for this vid. Nicely put. And good examples about actual games within this range of games. I think a lot of people have said that already, but this helped a lot now. Thanks again!

I don't think you judged this game fairly...
J Zapa
WTF Is is not a review show, it's a first impressions show. I do agree that this is a fun game, though.
Oh I misunderstood than I took this as a gamers review. Sorry.
Dodge and Sprint are on the same controller Button as well
Was considering this on seasonal sale, glad i saw this first
I tend to play Killing Floor at less than 30 FPS, thanks to a crappy Intel integrated GPU. With that said, it's more than playable under 60.
***** mine is better: my pc has 812Mb of Graphics, 2GB RAM and 2.04GHz
5 years late here but if anyone cares: at the time and probably still now, a frame rate that isn't a multiple of 30 leads to clunky, jittery performance. Same goes for a fluctuating frame rate. Hence 45, while being more than 30, feels much worse than 30.

That announcer sounds like a crappy attempt to imitate Hades from Kid Icarus.
it sounds like an englishman with his voice modded to be low pitched
are you kidding me I love the voice. Oh hello, welcome to Hades! best welcoming ever
i hope your kidding
its got a kind of Stephen Fry feeling to it I love it why u gotta be a hater
calling people a hater just means you cant take critisizm
Weapons actualy do change, you just have to buy the upgrade first, you won't see what it changes until you buy the actual upgrade, I just noticed it's pretty cool
Sounds like it's a good thing I held off on this. I'll stick to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer which, as you guessed earlier, certainly has gotten much better since launch.
Question: why is 45fps clunky and horrible? Isn't it simply smoother than 30fps?
"this is a first impressions anyone who doesnt get that must be daft"
-tb
Why is the like bar blue? That sucks, google get your shit together.
I think I just wasted my time just by watching this game review :D
Dmitri Alexeyev I agree
Dmitri Alexeyev
yes he does tb the best
If it took you till the end to realise it, you probably didn't. :P
Barney Harris haha ikr
Barney Harris
That's the point...somehow. Because, it actually was time waste, even if you somehow enjoyed the other persons thoughts or opinion about something... by that saying...I think the theme is time wasting, not the person speaking(TB) :D
he does that with every game to be honest.
He likes to show everyone watching everything about the game, from gameplay to all it's options
TB cares a lot about making quality videos for his fans, a huge number of the vids he makes never see youtube because they aren't up to par with the rest of his stuff.
He doesn't not take requests to spite his fans, he does it because he wants to give us useful advice on purchasing new games.
I bought God mode because of this video... You will be missed TB :'( ... Edit: I rather enjoyed the game for a time.
1: I got to level 5 in 2 hours of play
2: I love the voice and the whole Hades-theme
3: The framerate is no problem
3: I'm not insanely impatient like you and I survive with the same weapons for 30 WHOLE minutes
yea same here. I think this game is great, like i survive to like round two but get like 149 kills, but overall i think this game is great.
I agree completely. Great game and this reviewer is raging hard for no reason. I can barely even listen to his whiney ass for more than 1 minute.
same i just listened to him while reading everyone saying that its a good game disagreing with him..
dubson965 TotalBiscuit expects a certain level of quality; binding dodge and sprint to the same key is rather stupid and is a valid complaint.

45 fps? 45 FPS?! my computer plays at 15 fps... your computer has spoiled you.
I'm just saying his computer has spoiled the shit out of him...
Or he payed for a decent PC and thus got the reward of good performance...
PureN2o He has a setup that could easily cost over 1.5k u.s. dollars. (No idea on the conversion rate to Euros). And he talks about usually running things at 120 fps or more. So yes. Always a pleasure to watch your classy videos
It seems like it is a good idea in concept, but needs a nice polishing like scaling for amount of people playing, more enemy variety, maybe a boss, and more mechanics like other upgrades.
Two Star Wars references in one show! :D Loved it.

Glad to see you do post-commentary. In my humble opinion you should do it more often, TB. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
Move your mouse over loading bar, you get a preview in a little box. That way you just look where gameplay starts and done!
I played this game for 4 hours in total and managed to get to level 7 and unlock 3 new weapons, several upgrades for each of them, new ability + upgrade and a few cosmetic items. The grind isn't as huge as TB makes it to be... You basically can unlock something after each match.

"WTF is" is a first impressions series. He shows and tells You his first impressions of the games he records.
I was under the impression that it was the recess of a furnace. I think you may be thinking he misspelled it, while in actuality he meant "great".
well its sort of a horde mod at a whole.

btw, if you play god of war at its highest difficulty level, the amount of enemies you're playing against does make it feel sort of like a horde kind of game
Gameplay part immediately reminded me of Gantz - dudes get spawned in "arena" and fight weird creatures.
i'll go back to the wolfenstein 3d mention.
you could easily run out of ammo if you wasted it, and you still had 4 guns to chose from. Enemies didn't drop guns (except the blue guy who dropped his machine gun first time).

This is the first TotalHalibut video I've ever seen, I got some mixed feelings but I think we'll get along just fine.

Gears of War has one of the most well-known horde modes, i didn't even know god of war had one. But Gears of Wars horde mode is iconic.
i love this series WTF is, best series ever to know if you wanna buy a game or not.

The sliders for volume and sensitivity are rough to use they don't like to go where you want them and now they have push to talk.
That actually kind of sounds like fun. Basically make a puzzle game - you have this machine and these options for game soandso, make it run at 60 FPS or other requirements.

I appreciate your honesty biscuit.
"Take the professor in the back and plug him into the hyperdrive"
Star Wars reference
So what horde mode games do you like better? Since I enjoyed Killing Floor, maybe I'll think the horde mode games you like are absurdly good ...
yes but if you change sprint to shift the dodge button will also be on shift
it's cool you know force, i love that channel.
I am level 24 and this is really fun to play with your friends. But they have to create more maps, weapons and clothes ^^
Yup i agree its a fact any game that can resembles co-op is instantly fun with friends
I suggest taking a look at his system specs under "about" on his channel...
This game was also made by Saber Interactive, the people who brought us such Gems as Will Rock, Timeshift, Battle Los Angeles and Inversion
(I wish UA-cam would stop making
me change my memorial comment every 20-ish videos. When did they
implement this new annoyance??)
Hey does anyone know what TB said about another guys page? 4strategy? Or fourstrategy or is that even what he said?
Lets just say Unreal Tournament (i dont know if its 1999 or 2004) as a very special place in my heart(tends to happen wend you dad only buys games for himself and you are still 7).
There seriously needs to be an option to customize your own UA-cam layout. Change the layout from this to older and older and so forth, or enable, disable whatever you please.
I mean... that is literally what a first look is and that is what he is doing. He jumps into the game and plays it a little and gave us his initial opinions. He delivered exactly what he was supposed to.
is this on pc or console cause i have it on xbox it works fine i actually love this game and the spirit guide i think is pretty funny
This game is a lotta fun i bought it on 360 and i dont regret it at all. It doesnt take that long to level up if you are any good.
I always thought of a Horde Mode as being a co-op, wave based survival mode. Whereas this is moving from arena to arena until you reach the end.
Am i the only one who just wants a game about the Persian wars? It's the first thing i think of whenever i see something Greek-like.
Really no one is online at all. But I still got it and I find playing it solo fun. The game is pretty challenging. This game is a case of different strokes for different folks.
