Good video and description of its origins. I have a now 6 month old Old German Shepherd and before him I had a beautiful Old German Shepherd, that I adopted from a Dog Shelter. They are amazing, loyal, good looking dogs. Even today they are very close to the German Shepherd (GSD). The father of my old german shepherd pup is infact a long stockhair coated german shepherd with a perfectly straight horizontal back that comes from a working GSD line. The long haired gen was never bred out of the GSD , so 2 short hair GSD's can always have a long hair pup in the nest. On the other hand, breeding with 2 long hair (old) GSD will always have long hair pups. The mother of my pup is an Old German Shepherd from an east german line. So Old German Shepherd breeders will breed back towards the original horizontal straight backs of the early GSD's and they will always breed with 2 long haired parents. It is perfectly fine to breed with a GSD that has these characteristics (if he is recognized by an Old German Shepherd association .They also look for "fresh" blood to have as little % inbreed as possible
I have an old German shepherd, hovawart and Belgian shepherd mix. She’s the best. She is very calm and open towards other dogs. Very friendly. Also, so dang smart. Generally I can only recommend. But they need a lot of mental and physical exercise so keep that unmindful before getting one.
I have a family friend who owns one and he listens super well as wel as he walks of leash all the time he has been cleared by police and all k9 trainings very nice he is massive too
Happy to see the straight back being upheld in this breed. Even the standard GSD is turning away from the silly fashion of sloping backs. This will be the no.1 criterion when choosing my next dog. Ss for the look, I find the long hair unfortunately hiding the beautiful proportions of GSD.
What do you like the most about the Old German Shepherd?
Old German Shepherd, the most beautiful dog ever. 🥰
I think so too!
I love my old German shepherd, good with horses, good with people, other pets and a wonderful companion.
👍👍

Wow! I like this GSP better than the traditional GSP! And I never been a fan of GSP’s, maybe it’s the long hair,ha,ha! Good video mate!
I also think they look better in the longer coat!
