Just want to say thank you so much - following your guidance, I have successfully rejuvenated my ailing Prayer Plant and am now rescuing another by propagating its last leaf!
I have a beautiful prayer plant that I had near the middle of the house for a long time. It stayed about the same size. When it got a little bigger, I replanted it in a larger container and moved it in front of an east window near a heater vent. It started growing like wild fire and spouting tiny flowers. I pinch off any leaves that look like they are drying out. It is now twice the size of the larger container I planted it in.
Thank you for this! Your energy is so nice and comfortable, I feel like we're hanging out chatting😌 I've been wanting to propagate my maranta, but too nervous. She's one of my prized plants🖤 Now I think I'll actually do it when she gets a little bigger!🥰
You're so right about marantas having zero threshold for tap water. Some of my plants do fine with it, but marantas respond both immediately and dramatically in my experience. And my baby loves her soil nice and moist.
I just bought a dying lemon lime maranta cutting from someone online about 6 weeks ago! It was in such poor shape. 1 of the 3 leaves was so burned that it had to be cut. I've enjoyed watching it. It took a couple weeks to get it healthy enough for all the leaves to begin moving and it's grown a new leaf. I can't wait for it to be big enough to propagate like this one 😍
I just bought a Prayer Plant. The lady told me at night the plant folds in and the leaves look like the plant is praying. I'm not sure how true this is, but I thought th concept and image of this would look so beautiful. Thank you for your video!
My lemon lime has been growing like crazy and SO many blooms. I just cut mine and now propogating in water. Want mine to look full like yours! Congrats on the little one 👶
I would love to see more propagation videos! There is something so satisfying about taking a cutting and watching it grow into a new plant! I have a fittonia that is leggy, and I would like to fill out the base of the pot, but I’ve never propagated one before.
Thank you so much. I started to take care of my landlord's plant and it is going so well...I love that plant. I just discovered that it grows small flowers. Your plant looks so healthy, bravo 👏🌿🏆Have a nice green day 😉
Good video, here in the UK mains water usually only includes chlorine so a day sat in the watering can let's that evaporate and then the water is good for house plants the following day 😊
I have a prayer plant that is having a hard time. I’m going to try trimming off the messed up leaves and doing this. Hopefully it helps. Usually don’t have any problems with any of my plants. Thanks for the tips and info!
I actually propagate a leaf an got roots in 4 weeks and now she is in semihydroponic and has another leaf already. So it worked for me 😁😊 love your videos
I realize this video is a year old, but I just ordered this maranta from your Etsy shop! It was the last one in stock! I’m SO stinking excited to receive it. Yay 😁
Wow you're lucky that your water propagations have never had problems like that. I had two water props that started molding after I didn't change the water, but only after I moved and had put them in more lifht
I've always just snipped off hanging bits, put them directly in soil and water, water, water for the first week. New plantings look sad for a few days but almost always bounce back. Nevertheless, I think I'll try it your way and avoid the 'sad' period.
I love your videos and learn so much! My first and only maranta is giving up the ghost. I just moved her so will see. I’m going to get a new one Or three. 😎☘️
I feel like you're my soul sister, Harli green thumb😂 it's like I'm watching a video of my completely comfortable self on camera, plus you nail all the techniques I have learned & practice daily myself due to my success rate. That whole attempt at pronouncing the plant names, right there with ya! LOL
Very straightforward explanation. But I have a Tricolor and a Lemon Lime sitting pretty close to each other and for some unknown reason the Lemon Lime keeps loosing leaves, but the Tricolor doesn’t!! I’ve checked the soil moisture with a moisture meter and both all the same. Strange but what could cause this? Enjoy your videos and Congratulations on the baby.
My prayer plant is not growing well, it only has one new grow but it hasn't pop out it's leaf it's been the same about maybe a month. Need help to save my prayer plants. Loved your videos you know so much about indoor plants. I've been a outdoor planter and now I want to do indoors. Help!.
@@radisrose Boiling water makes it sterile, so ya it burns off the chemicals that can be in some tap water. Prayer plants can be fussy with their water and prefer filtered water, but boiling it would be a cheaper alternative, if you don't have a water filter system.
thanks for the info. I hand my eye on a lemon maranta for months. finally gave in and ordered one. while I'm waiting, I'm preparing myself on the how to care & propagate. I do have one question if anyone can answer 🤔. can I us a self watering system on this plant. I'm a little worried about over watering it. any suggestions 🤔. I would gladly appreciated it. thanks.
I just got 4 prayer plants in a Swap, some are NOT in good shape...... HALP! I was told they had a history of overwatering and I found out a blown out in THE STEM! I had to cut the leaves off, they were all curled up and I managed to cut just below a nod! And I got one leaf to open in just a couple hours! 3 are still curled up and look dead but if I can save 1, I can nurse the plant back to health it’ll be worth it.
Hi!! i appreciate your videos a lot. Can you please talk a little about the Dusty Miller plant, there's very little information about it out there and I would like to know how to properly care for it indoors. Would appreciate your input greatly.
I was so scared to propagate this plant but this video really helped! I water propagated a single leaf cutting and it’s starting to grow roots after about a month and a half, so yes patience is key! Question: have you experienced the leaves get crispy/die while they’re still newly growing like it’s still looking like a roll but it got crispy/died (hopefully you understand what I mean 😅) and how do you deal with that? Is it okay just to remove the dead new growth? I feel like it’s not going to grow and unravel anymore, or does it?
My prayer plant stemsstayall bent and don't really stretch long. ??? Does that make sense and any suggestions? Thanks! I learned a lot from this video so will check your others.
Thank you 🙏🏼 I was so confused because I usually propagate other plants using sunlight or uv lights, but prayer plants don’t like direct light. Wasn’t sure wether to keep the babies next to the lighter plant or a bit closer to the window 😩
I relate to your energy so much 😂 And now I need one of these plants. Is it possible to keep it small enough to forever be able to move it around my home as needed? We get all different kinds of light at different times of year, and if this starts stressing due to low light I'll stress too and spend way too much on grow lights lol
Bahahaha I literally bought two 2" prayer plant babies yesterday to add to the one that's struggling a little hahaha from the looks of the comments you're practically psychic!
Do you ever take cutting from plant that is flowering? Mine has been flowering for 2 months. I am so excited every morning to see another flower! Sometimes 2 or 3 at a time. Also is there any thought to fertilizing when flowering or not? Also, do they ever produce seeds?
Hey! I've just started getting into houseplants and am coming completely obsessed!!! I'd love to get into water propergating and I noticed you said filtered water is best for this particular type of plant...would bottled water be just as good as I dont have a water filter? Thank you very much! Love watching your videos! 😍😊😊
Hi. It’s been 6 months since you asked her. But I’d like to share my experience with the water and prayers plants /marantas. They do best with distilled or filtered water. Some ppl also fill up a container of tap water and leave it out for 24 hrs then water their marantas. Hope it helps.
HARLI GIRL I need help!!! I have a bunch of houseplants and my maranta is the ONLY one i'm continuing to struggle with. It is a really small plant consisting of one two-leaf cutting that I bought in horrible condition at a home depot about 5 months ago. The plant has put out one new leaf since I bought it home, but now every time a new leaf begins to come out, it turns brown and dies off. I've been trying to find the right timing for water but its been quite difficult for me! About two weeks ago I brought it outside on my screened porch because I felt that the covered but bright would be great for it, and the extreme humidity from where I live would help, but no signs of improvement yet. Any advice on what to do? or how often I should be watering the plant? Sorry for the long assss comment lol! Love you and your vids!!!
Have you checked for pests? Look especially for spider mites, and also keep an eye out for thrips and white flies - while white flies themselves are considered "generally harmless," their larvae do as the mites & thrips (I.e., pierce plant tissue and drain vital fluids). Any time I've seen loss of my new foliage, especially ongoing, I've found it's usually worth looking for invaders. :::BATTLE!!!!:::: lol. Good luck!
My maranta is in complete shock after transplanting, I'm considering cutting down the stems that are wilting and try and see if they'll grow roots... Do you think that could work?
Haha, I'm over here pregnant and out of breath myself. When you make the hole to replant your propagation does it disturb the root system of what already exist? Or are you careful not to break apart the existing root system too much?
I have taken clippings from a maranta and propagated thembut then the original plant never grew anything from the stem I cut. Help? How do you do it correctly so that the plant keeps growing?
Hi Harli, some people say you should change the water, yet I have heard others say “don’t change the water, because cuttings produce growing hormones in the water” 🤷🏻♀️ so yeah I don’t think that’s really bad of you... whatever works for you, right?!? Seriously, in the plantworld I hear SOOO many people contradicting each other.. can be a little confusing. Anyway, have a great day 👋🏼🌿
I got a red prayer plant to rescue, split it into three pots, and they're slowly dying. Looks like I'm gonna be propagate the crap out of them tomorrow, start from scratch. And get a water filter!
It's been 6 months now that I take care of the office plants. I am having a lot of trouble with the Maranthas. They always have yellowing leaves and they are always droopy. :-(
I love when you said you're nosy and you want to watch the root system, because yeah me too
Me too lol, I love seeing their growth process it’s so cool!
"bc im nosy and i like watching the root systems" i have never resonated with anything moreso in my life

Definitely do it. Mine grew easily
Aw she made me feel the same way.
I literally said to my husband this morning that I needed to propagate some of my lemon lime to fill it out more. Perfect timing! 👌🏼

I add Epsom salt to the water to propagate the rooting- just a smidge.

Hello! I followed your advice ,propagating my prayer plant and it worked really quick and easy! Thanks !!!
I appreciate the information. My plant really needs help.
I love your videos because they are full of information, easy to understand and quick, straight to the point. THANK YOU.
And your adorable 😄
Enjoyed this video! Will give your method a try. My plant has some leaves that are curled with brown edges.
Beautiful Kitty in the background!!

Yep distilled water only or rain water 💧
Mines now growing beautifully
And lot’s of growths
Thanks
Good. Mine needs a hair cut badly but had no idea where to cut!!! I mixed my green and red in the same pot. I find the green grows faster
Great video, I will have to try this. Just to let you know, on the water propagation, I also only top up with water and never had any issues.
That's a beautiful and healthy plant
I love your videos and learn so much! My first and only maranta is giving up the ghost. I just moved her so will see. I’m going to get a new one Or three. 😎☘️
Wow, I feel inspired to propagate my marantha today
Great video! Loved the close up of the node

Thank you! I have two marantas and would love to make babies.
Accidentally stumbled across this video. You're so cute and informative. Can't wait to prop' my maranta.
I boil water for my plants and they LOVE it.
That's a great idea, thanks! I don't have a water filter and was wondering what basically free alternatives there were.
Oh i was thinking you just water your plants with boiling water....

Do you grow Maranthas using hydroponic medium for the roots?
