Many singers get confused about the terms head voice and falsetto.
Often, these terms are used to mean the same thing.
But actually, falsetto and head voice are completely different and this is a mistake I see a lot of singers make.
So here's the difference between head voice and falsetto so you can always hear the difference!
I took years of vocal coaching to use my natural vocals. My mom paid for my coach and I ended up paying for it after I graduated high school. My coach told me I have an amazing voice and helped me use it. 👍 I am grateful too. I have a rare movement disorder and vocal lessons helped me accept it and control it a bit.
You need to make a video of your voice ❤️
Would be interested too! 😊
That’s beautiful. That’s the power of music and singing, and hard work paying off🥰
That effortlessness in his head voice. Great voice.
I always doubted if my head voice was legit or just a weird falsetto. But now I know it’s real. And I also always thought I was weird for accessing my head voice easier through the E vowel. But your video helped validate me. Thank you.
Excellent! I have to say, that you give really good information! Thank you always for the advice you give!
Your falsetto sounded exactly like the intro to Where is my mind by the Pixies
Yes!! 100% that's what I thought of immediately too.
stop
That's a very good explanation. It's amazing how even classically trained people assume that you're singing in falsetto when you're really singing with the head voice! Confounds me. But what I usually tell people is to try using a device like a spectrogram which can analyze your voice and show you all the overtones produced. The less overtones the tendency towards falsetto. The more tones the tendency towards head voice. But then again I've heard people sing in the bass range in falsetto
Actually the terminology is totally different in classical music.
No, actually head voice is very poorly defined. Its not an actual term, people just made it up cause it feels like its coming from your head. Some people use head vocie to describe falsetto, some say it is a thicker fuller falsetto, some use it to describe mix voice . The truth is, there are 2 laryngeal mechanisms you should be concerned with, M1 (chest voice) and M2(falsetto). A "fuller" ot "thicker" or "less breathy" falsetto is STILL falsetto its just not breathy. Calling it head voice is like calling a breathy chest voice breath voice and only a fuller one chest voice. No, they are both chest voice, but one is more powerful due to more support.
All I heard was 🎵WHERE IS MY MIIIIINDDD🎶
My pixies dude
Same here
ooooo STOP
I’ve always thought the same thing thank you. I can finally show my choir teacher that I’m not tripping
Just talk like Mini-me in Austin Powers: "eeeeeeeeeeee."
I trained myself and been getting better with falsetto and head voice singing
So falsetto is breathy head voice. Got it
No, it is definitely much more than this. This is just a way to identify it more often. one way to tell if it is falsetto and head voice is to listen to how connected it is with the voice. If it feels otherworldly or disconnected, breathy, and shallow, then it most likely falsetto.
If it feels natural, connected, and is strong, then it is head voice.
Excellent tips and info. Thanks so much, will be using the Gee technique lol💗
I love how you used FOO to access your falsetto, but with more of a HOO sound, and then concentrated on a more dominant OOO sound to pin down head voice. 👌
I'm rooting for all of the girl's because they have abilities and good gifts given to them 😊
What about head voice vs and twang ? are they related? or have certain defirence
Thanks sir 😊
The way to train this is GEEEEEE🤣🤣
Tico's grainy falsetto is hilarious
Jin's high notes are 🔥...he's using his head voice, which is harder. All the rest you mentioned here use falsetto.
Great training short, but the video you mention at the end doesn’t come up in the short could you kindly provide a link
really nice, very quick too
How to expand your chest voice higher? My head voice I can reach up to C6
Same! My head voice is so full and i can do that with ease but chest voice is so messed up. Like whenever i sing high notes, i try to do it with chest voice but i automatically do with my head voice. Its so natural to me and I cant sing with chest voice while high notes even if i want to
Oh god finally found my prblm
Thanks man
0:31 sorry i remember my bestfriend with this part😂
Watched your tutorial on head voice vs falsetto. I don’t have a hard time with headvoice or full voice/mix etc I have an impossible time with falsetto. The flute like variety. My chords get tight and I just can’t do it. No clue what I’m doing wrong. Suggestions? Exercises? Thanks.
Does this apply the same for girls? Or do we just have a head voice and not falsetto? Or is it still called the head voice, but there's a breathy one like falsetto and a full one just like male head voice?
Hey Ramsay, thanks for this video. I'm not sure why falsetto is a seperate register, isn't it just a breathy headvoice? And if that's how we name registers than why can't a breathy chest voice become a new technique.
My point is i believe Breathiness is an expressive technique or flaw not something that determines a new register; what do you think about the validity of having falsetto referred to as a register of your voice?
I'm not Ramsay, but I think it's useful to have two words for two similar, bit still obviously distinct coordinations of vocal muscles. Btw, a breathy chest voice already has a name... whisper.
Because he is fucking wrong. This channel is full of misinformation.

Easiest way to get head voice if you cant get it from this excersise is to do a siren up from chest voice (REMEMBER TO MOVE RESONANCE IN A SWEEPING MOTION LIKE AN OVERHAND THROW AS YOU MOVE UP) until you feel no chest vibrations, for me this was the F# below middle C. Then get used to singing in that area of your voice with that resonance placement and tone.
Falsetto needs to be supported a specific way for it to not feel tense or wrong (or tire your voice faster), one that in itself feels indescribably wrong/different from chest voice or head voice. I can't really describe the support for it other than like your chest is being deflated
Hope this helps somebody
“Zingamama
Pailywaddle
Harpy with a screech
Fairy King Zing Zing” as a more complex version of the original
And then I’ll do “Zimmerman Telegram” in scales until the end where you hold out the sounds bzzt or beep.
the yodel lol
off topic but the note you used is the same one at the start of 'where is my mind'
Cool knowledge
I still don’t get it can you make a video to evaluate the vocal of the kpop idol itzy chaeryeong I’m really confused about her singing abilities
Quick question to help me understand this a bit better: does Head Voice always sound brighter than falsetto?
(Sorry for asking just am learning some youtube videos confised me)
I like pure head voice
What video did he mention in the last?
Can I get the link?
So basically to actually activate your head voice you need good vibrato? & for Falsetto you need more throat/breathe control?
He never mentioned vibrato.
On which note(s) does the head voice start in men?
Does the sound which is produced at the time of yodel the sound which is produced at the time of fallseto are same
There’s nothing wrong with falsetto. Anyway, in my opinion they are both the same at vocal folds level. The difference you are making is in the placement of the sound (and the height of the larynx) after it is produced by the vocal folds.
what video
whistle ni skill nyanyian, tak kira key apa dia nyanyi, vdeo ni masih falsetto bukan whistle.. tp tk bmaksud siti tak bagus nyanyi, dia pun ada skills2 dia tsendiri and tone suara yg set her aparts dgn pnyanyi lain
is head voice just a higher mixed voice ?
I have a bit of a problem that I'm hoping you could help me overcome. I don't know why, but I overproduce saliva when I sing.
I find it really annoying, especially when I'm forced to swallow at completely random times.
In my case I get a lot of post nasal drip which makes it very difficult to sing at times and it has to do with allergies for me. I am not sure if you do have allergies but having moisture in your mouth is better than not having moisture in your mouth.
Were zayn you and i can be considered as high note and isit head voice or falsetto?
what manticores makes this sound
GOD I GOTTA GEE
Prince.. the king of Falsetto
John Lennon… the king of Head voice
Former choir dude, and current trans girl. And uh, my falsetto is gone. Completely. The top of my range now is just head voice. I barely can get chest anymore as well. Def no middle voice yet tho. lol
With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
I will try the ghee
Hey i do not sing but i am 15 when i speak normally my voice is high pitched and my chest doesnt vibrate but i can make my voice deeper on command and my chest vibrates i want to know which one is my real voice
👏
You just made the exact same sound for falsetto and head voice.
But the head voice he used the first time was actually falsetto
This is just not true. Falsetto is an outdated term for a male head voice. Now that we can actually see vocal function with cameras, voice scientists know that a male "falsetto" (head voice) is the same functionally as a female head voice. You just demonstrated a breathy head voice, then a clear one.
I cant tell is head voice is choir or not
So when Pavarotti is sing a C4, is it head voice?
C4 is middle c on the piano. That was pretty much mid register for him.
C5 is what you probably meant…a perfect 4th above where most men top out (G4). And Pavarotti could very well hit that just as easily in chest voice as he could C4.
@@PSkitt82 Yes, I meant C5. Was that head voice?
@@PSkitt82 BTW, I top out at D5.
@@billybaldwin8918 yes d5 is head.
Why not analyze Stell of SB19 in I Want You . FYI, the group is in Grammy nominations...
So thats what a manticore sounds like... hmm
Good explanation but bad example since both are still falsetto but the second one was just louder not head voice
heey r u a professional singer? i would like someone to review my singing cuz im a bit confused if its head voice or a mix

I do not think he knows what he is talking about.
He clearly sounded Unqualified to teach vocalization, unless, he is trained in classical operetta.
Learned how to play piano is Not a Credibility to be a Vocal Teacher.
Literally don't know what his doing
Believe in Jesus Christ, trust in Him for your eternal salvation and repent of your sins!
