Eating at Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana. New Haven, Connecticut.

- I make a trip from New York City to New Haven, CT to eat at what many consider to be the best pizza restaurant in America at the original Frank Pepe’s. I show up early and get seated right away. I order two pizzas. One of them is their famous white clam pizza. The other is their original tomato pie. Both of them were amazing and proved to be some of the best pizza that I’ve ever had!

About Me:
I live in NYC and I’m about food, travel and work.
You could never go wrong with pizza! They do make amazing pizza. If you are visiting New Haven Frank Pepe is definitely the place to visit! Great video as usual!
Thank you! Yeah, this was probably one of my favorite pizza spots I've ever been to.
this is such a fun video. I loved the look of the sauce..
it looks homemade! luck you!!
Thank you! Yeah, that tomato sauce was some of the best I've ever tasted on a pizza!
Nice video! Looking forward to getting out to New Haven next month! 🍕🎉
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it!
Perfect video!
Thank you!
The best way to eat the pepe's tomato pie is to eat about half the slice, then roll up the latter half with the crust and eat it like a pizza rollup. Delicious.
I'll keep that in mind for next time.
My all time #1 ...never fails ,always amazing...old reliable FOR SURE!
It's truly amazing pizza!
Definitely glad YT is throwing some of the older videos into my feed! So as my friend Jay and I were getting out of college many years ago, he (another Queens boy) decided to move to New Haven. Needless to say, I spent a ton of time up there. I agree rating it is totally subjective... NH pizza isn't better or worse than NYC, it's just fine different. And, I love it! One of the pizzerias I worked in here, the owner always said you wanted the bottom crust to come out looking like a leopard.... Nice dark spots on a beautiful gold background. That's what you get there. The clam pie is 💯💯💯 awesome, and an oddball that I had up there (not Frank Pepe's) was a mashed potato pie. Sounds weird, but it was good. As always, thanks for the great review!
Thanks for watching! It's always appreciated! Yeah, I still think NYC is the best when it comes to pizza, but I love variety and some of the pizzerias in New Haven are incredible like Frank Pepe's and Sally's. I definitely have got to get back there.
I've had potatoes on pizzas before, but never mashed. That sounds interesting. I've got to try it sometime!
Loved the video Andrew, very well said regarding the comparison to NY pizza culture. Yes, perhaps there's less variety in New Haven but they do what they do perfectly. I hope you had the chance to order a Sally's pie down the street !
Thank you! Yeah, I went to Sally’s the next day. Another great establishment! I just wish I could fit more food in my stomach, because Sally’s is pretty amazing as well!
@@Jamesnu Pepe's/Sally's is like Red Sox/Yankees to the people in the area. You pick a side and stick with it.
@@bonehead1170 I got that vibe from the people I've talked to in New Haven. I totally understand it. I'm just glad that I eat least got to eat at them both.
I used to live 20 - 25 minutes away. I used to go there all the time
Nice! I would love to be able to go to Pepe's all of the time!
@@Jamesnu my kids partially grew up on that pizza. 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆
@@DiggsSuperproducer Nice!!!
Its a crime this has 176 views. Hope ur channel grows more man
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Loved this video! I'm a long time CT native and pizza is without a doubt one of my favorite foods! And when i have to cut the pizza myself it seems to taste even better when it's in different sizes.
Thank you! Yeah, I enjoyed the variety of sizes of the slices!
I grew up in NYC and Pepe is better than any place in NY by a mile.
Don’t forget about the clams and clam chowder New England style. You’ll love it
@@ramencurry6672 and the Lobster Rolls in CT are also out of this world
Great review - I happen to agree James. I've been going to Pepes for 50 years, never gets old and still taste the same - legendary! next time try the it with bacon/red/mozz, it's a favorite and one more thing, have it with a cold Bud Light beer or 2, makes it even better.
That sounds like the perfect combination! I'll definitely have to try it!
Bud light tastes like America in a can.
your focus on pizza is very inspiring :)
Thank you! I love pizza!
New Haven pizza looks so damn good!
Absolutely! It's a beautiful thing!
White clam pie = Nirvana
It's a great pizza for sure!
Best pizza anywhere. This and Sallys are the best.
For sure! Pepe's and Sallys are easily two of the best pizza spots I've ever been to. I can't wait to try them again!
Those random-sized pizza slices are maddening, but I'm glad it all tasted good!
I did a tour of New Haven recently with a local and was told that there was a reason for those different sized slices. Let's say you have two slices and aren't quite satisfied but you might not have room for a third slice, unlike a NY sliced pie, you can always choose a smaller slice on a New Haven pie.
@@pizzareviewsonthego Ah, that makes sense - I love having options!
@@s_przybylowicz I like the variety of sizes!
The video reminded me to go back up to record
Yeah, it's definitely worth the trip!
Finish it! Yea bro and pick up a bacon and cheese pie to go, thats my fav 🍕from Pepes.
That sounds awesome! I'll definitely be ordering that next time!

Another pie you have to review on CT. is Tipsy Tomato white shrimp pie. I bet that it would be the best shrimp pie you tasted as of yet. It comes with lemon wedges so you can squeeze that fresh lemon all over the pie and enjoy.
Hey if you want, im off 95 and I will take you there myself.
I ❤🍕
@@choloneressurected That sounds so awesome! I just wish there was more room in my stomach so I could eat all the amazing pizza in New Haven. Thanks for the offer! I'm sure I'll get back to New Haven sometime!
@@Jamesnu
Yes, Tipsy Tomato is located in Derby CT.
10-15 min from New Haven.
Im a native New Yorker and never thought I would love pizza anywhere outside of N.Y. However CT has proved me wrong.
@@choloneressurected For sure! Good pizza can be found anywhere and Connecticut has some truly amazing pizza!
Bravo! Cosí buona la Napolitana.
Thanks for watching!
“Perfect”
Thank you!
I grew up on Wooster st in the 70's the pizza was great , it's not the same since it been franchise.
Nice! I've heard that as well. I would've liked to have seen what it was like during that time.
@@Jamesnu it's was Little Italy very friendly .
@@michaelwatts3339 Nice!
@illmerica Wooster street is nothing like it was in a 70's when it was the real little Italy when they would tlhave fireworks from on top of the package store for hrs, the Hell Angels parked their bikes on one side of the street, you would see lots of people hanging out smoking cigars drinking ,the smell was in the air.....if u can't taste the difference something is wrong, Pepe turning in his grave....this is from someone who witnessed the real pizza
walk down the street to sally's!
I did that the very next day and Sally's was incredible!
do they toss the dough in the air at pepe's while making the pizza?
I'm not sure on that one. I didn't see anybody do it, but for most of my visit I didn't have the best view of the kitchen either.
The satellite locations are somewhat inconsistent but still the best.
I've heard that. I'm just happy I got to go to the original. It was incredible! It really is some of the best pizza!
Dude at 4:54 is that Braun strowman sitting across from you?
Oh wow! I never noticed that! I'm not sure, but it looks just like him!
That's an oystercatcher.
Thanks for watching!
The Danbury Frank Pepe pizza tastes like they use Spaghetti O's sauce........
That's a shame. I've always heard that the original is the best.
10/10?! That's a rookie score, we're gonna have to disregard that.
Haha! Simply put, that was some of the best pizza I've ever had!
@@Jamesnu I'd love to try it one day. We have crappy pizza up here in canada, nothing like that.
@@Jugglenaught1980 For sure it's a must try! The main reason why I traveled from NYC to New Haven was mainly for the pizza.
So you went all the way to New Haven and didn't even get a pizza with mozzarella cheese on it. Genius.
It's not all about the cheese.
@@Jamesnu Ha, how would you know if you didn't have any? For the record, the mozzarella cheese is excellent there, and the best pizza you can get is a regular pie with sausage on it.
@@chrissygerwitz520 I'm sure it's very good, but there's only so much I can eat in one sitting and I was very pleased with the two pizzas I had.
So you didnt get sallys apizza? Ouch
No worries. I went to Sally's the next day. It was amazing!
@@Jamesnu okay good. Worried you didnt save room for some of the other amazing za spots
why u hold the pizza so weirdly?
There are no rules when it comes to eating pizza.
Bro you have no pizza eating rules just throw it in the air try to catch it with your face
Pepe’s and ONLY the one in New Haven….is a solid pie
7 out of 10
NOT the best in the land
Not even close
Fair enough. I personally really enjoyed it.
@@Jamesnu it’s great you enjoyed for real….I’m a foodie myself!! But everyone overrates that place and I think it gets in everyone’s head to agree with the herd….go to Boston North End location ONLY!!! Regina’s blows every NYC, New Haven, and certainly Chicago pie out of the water
@@michaelimondithereal I've heard great things about Regina's. Thanks for the suggestion! It's definitely a place I want to check out soon!
Pepe’s is overrated and overpriced!
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I think otherwise, but thanks for sharing.
