**Correction** I should have said HDR10+ when I said HDR10 in this video. HDR10 is already supported on older Apple TV4Ks, but HDR10+ is the new one supported on this version, which mainly will matter to you if you own a Samsung TV. - Josh

My advice is to buy the best one available (i.e. with the most storage space). As apps start to take up more storage space it will last longer than the other one. Also worth considering if you plan to game on it.
There still isn’t really any HDR10+ content!
Really underplayed the lack of ads. Using any other system it’s shocking how many ads flood the Home Screen
I’ve a Chromecast with Google TV and a Roku stick before and while they do have ads you can actually turn off a minority of them in settings, but at the end of the day, the simple and easy to use Apple TV will always win in that department
Totally. “Would you pay an extra $50 extra to remove home page ads forever?” Yes, yes I would.
@@VicViperT301PilotMost people won’t keep their Apple TV forever
Ya man like amazon fire tv stick😢
I’ve had the Fire TV cube for a while and I don’t even notice the ads.
It’s my first Apple TV and I’m loving it! The speed boost compared to my crappy smart TV OS is night and day while the ability to use my AirPods Max with spatial audio as well as to utilize my stereo paired HomePods as default speakers for my PS5/Xbox Series X and Switch through ARC is a gamechanger.
Tv with headphones ugh
@@BB-ed4omif you want to watch a movie late at night and want loud volume then this is a good use case

Awesome review. I replaced my Chromecast and other stock smart tv interfaces with 3 of these. Won’t be switching back. Just a great product.
Thanks for a great review! I have owned a 2nd generation & now 3rd generation for years. I can say that this device is so crisp, clear, and very handy for watching different movies & TV shows. It's a blast!
I bought Apple TV for spatial audio since I already have AirPod pro 2 anyway. Spatial audio is really impressive
Excellent presentation!
Another automation idea for homekit is: if a connected device to your tv turns on, turn on the TV and switch the input, this for me has been way better than CEC since most of the time, CEC just wont work for me, or just work but not completely.
example: i turn on my game console, then the TV turns on, but it almost never switches to the input the game console is using, so i had to use the TV remote anyways.
Can confirm about the HDMI cord thing - I upgraded from a 1080p plasma to a 4K LG C2 and the cord I was using to connect my PC to the TV basically didn't work; it was extremely frustrating until I figured out the problem and once I replaced the HDMI cord it all worked like a dream. I bought an Apple TV 4K recently and absolutely love it.
The C2 has a mostly functional smart TV option and yes I can just run stuff from my PC but honestly using the Apple TV with the remote like a traditional TV with all of the apps that aren't included in LG's suite has been very nice.
can you tell me apps which you use on apple tv not available on lg? i’m buying the same setup, i’m getting an amazing deal on a 77” g2 😁
@@Skiman__ My 2017 LG TV didn't have Peacock, Roku+, HBO Max. Newer LG might/should have those I believe. But regardless once you go Apple TV, you are never going to back to any other streaming device. The processing power for multi-tasking between apps on Apple TV makes all other streaming devices look like a joke. It is just unmatched. 🔥🔥💪
@@Skiman__ ESPN+ cuz i watch European soccer/football and a few other things (not a huge sports person) but honestly it’s just nice that whatever it is, Apple will likely have it. Also, it’s just a great user experience and I love the remote.
@@Skiman__ and to piggyback off the other comment, the processing power is nuts and the thing is lightning fast - also, I have Airpods and the ease of connectivity is second to none
The Apple TV is my favorite streaming device ever and I have used other streaming devices like a Google Chromecast, Fire TV and the OS built in my tv, the picture quality of the Apple TV is way better, crisper and using my AirPods Max or AirPod Pros wirelessly is amazing, I’m using the first gen 4k but plan to upgrade to the newest 4k with the new remote if I get a good deal this holiday season.
It's really a brilliant streamer for picture but also for audio on Apple Music in Dolby Atmos. It's great 👍
1:01 should be HDR10+! HDR10 is the most commonly supported format for HDR while HDR10+ was just added for this gen
great review!!!!!
Can the Apple TV be connected to a 5.1 sound system? BTW, love your work.
Do these Apple TV devices have an internal memory so you can download some of your favorite movies to watch off-line if your Internet ever goes down?
I just ordered one, can’t wait to try it because the default OS on smart tvs are so bad. I experience a number of daily glitches with certain apps on my Samsung tv and I’m not a fan of the UI. Can’t wait to have a proper smart TV experience
Nice upload😊 what ever hall to that a hdmi cable link in description though?
I am amazed at the detail of your review😊 u just got my sub
How amazed tho?!
Is the Apple TV 4K box better than the Apple TV app on my Sony TV? If I get the Apple TV 4K box, should I connect it to the TV or my Denon receiver?
The absolute gold standard and best tech reviewer on UA-cam.
Hi, I have the ATV 4 k 1st gen model, purchased in 2019. The remote has stopped working, should I just replace the remote or get a new ATV, I use ATV only for streaming NF, prime etc and use it for 3hr/ day max. Please suggest . Thanks
When it mentions 128GB of storage, does that mean you can record on it or is it purely for apps?
I just upgraded to the latest model the other day and am pretty happy with it (as I was with the previous gen model). Only thing I feel is lacking, so far, is there's no backlighting on the remote.
I mean TV remotes do not usually have backlight and since it doesn’t have many buttons you would get used to it.
Have you noticed a speed difference between your new and old model. For example apps loading faster or moving around the operating system.
@@egcruzer I can't say that I've noticed any difference there. But the previous model I had was just fine speed-wise, so I didn't have any complaints in that regard. This latest one seems nice and fast and smooth when using it as well, so again I have no complaints.
Just use your iphone for a remote it works better
Hello thank you for your great reviews! ✨
I still have a question, I saw Final Fantasy 7 (OG) is available on iOS and iPadOS (not in Arcade but to purchase) is it possible to play the game on the TV? If not, is it possible to mirror my iPad on Apple TV or would it decrease the game’s quality and input lag 🤔
I’ll probably buy an Apple TV anyways in September (never know if there will be a new one 😅) and I’d wait to play FF7 until then if I can play it on the Apple TV
Sorry for the specific question 😅
A niche use case not mentioned is Apple Fitness+ on the Apple TV, and the very neat way it integrates with your Apple Watch to display your heartbeat and workout rings in realtime. Yes you get the same experience on your iPhone, or iPad, but the big screen and big sound makes everything else quite inferior.
Excellent video. Kudos as well for saying "prompts the question" instead of "begs the question." That always annoys me.
You look like Zack from Saved by the bell!!! Great video.
I have the 2017 4k version and am JUST now upgrading to the new version since mine doesn't have WiFi 6 and I bought a brand new TV so want the best picture possible
I love my Apple TV 4k!!
You sir have made me want Apple TV thank you.
Same here 😊
Alexa vs Apple TV? I am using Alexa for years but I was thinking to switch as I faced some security issues: any recommendations from someone who swapped ?
The zeskit cinema plus cables work great for Dolby vision and Atmos. TechnoDad found these to do all the less lossy surround modes.
The Zeskit Maya are even better & only a few dollars more.
For non Dolby Vision tv, you can literally hold your iPhone up to the tv and the software auto color corrects your display. Amazing product
I'd love to see a video on that, and if it is somehow possible to calibrate home theater surround sound speakers with a iPhone
@@GoodOldDays4U2 wouldn’t think it was possible for audio on a type of amp or sound mixer. I’m not sure
Really looking into getting a apple TV, as although my LG C2 has a ok UI I find it can be slow sometimes, and just thought an Apple TV with an A15 is going to be really smooth, this video kind sold me plus the lack of ads is appealing too.
I’m thinking of upgrading my Apple TV because Fubo TV looks bad on my Samsung QN85C. Would the newest Apple TV clean up low quality content better than native tv apps or the previous Apple TV?
Even though your banners say HDR 10+, you keep saying HDR 10 which is inherently different than HDR10+. You say the new Apple TV supports HDR10 now, well all previous models of Apple TV 4K support HDR10. The new 2022 Apple TV 4K supports HDR10+ which is mostly for Samsung TV users. 1:00
That’s my bad, I forgot to add text on screen to correct that mistake. Thanks for pointing it out. - Josh
Does Apple TV have live channels like Roku does? That’s a make it or break it for me. My dad gave me an Apple TV box but minus the power chord so I’ve never used it. So I wanna know if Roku or Apple is better. If there’s no live channels like Roku has then it’s useless in my book.
Do I need to subscribe to Apple TV in order to use the Apple TV app? Or can I watch Apple TV for free forever if I buy an Apple TV device
Question. So for airplay and streaming from safari from my phone will it allow for hdr to take affect on anything I choose to watch or are all of these features limited to the content on apples tv+ service and therefore render all non Apple content the same as my LGs standard ui. If someone can shed some light on this id appreciate it!
I'm torn between buying the current Apple TV or waiting for an update. Any advice or perspective would be greatly appreciated.
When is the new version's release date? if it's within 3 months, then wait for it.
I take mine with me, when traveling throughout Asia, because most hotel dont have English programming.
Lots of glitches with the 3rd gen 4k. My 2021 2nd gen has almost no issues.
I have two echo speakers AND AN Amazon thermostat and iPhones and iPad pro's they work with Apple TV. I currently use Fire TV? I have a Sony 4k tv and a Onkyo surround system
Looking forward the 4th generation. A17?
It is possible to install Tidal app on it from his appstore? Tks!
i love apple tv
it is so sleak and clean and flawless
8:37 wait so let’s say I have the remote on my phone & use the remote on my phone I can’t also use the remote sametime as my phone remote how do I disconnect my phone remote what one is better to use ? If I disconnect my phone I’m able to use the phone remote again right ?
Whoever is using this guide me If I can connect Apple Box with my soundbars wirelessly via Bluetooth as if they are not from Apple Company ?
What apps can I use multiview on?
Best Movie Streamer for Home theater enthusiast. Sure it cost a little more but it Worth it. I was using the Roku 4k ultra before and the AppleTV 4k blows it away. Its like the Difference between a Mercedes 7 series and a VW Beetle. I don’t even use the Roku anymore. The AppleTV has so many features I don’t know how they sell it for so cheap. And you can use any bluetooth headphones with the AppleTV.
The OS and interface sucks.
@@deman19901at least it runs faster than 1 fps

Dude, the parking at Crabtree vally mall sucks..... especially during rush hour on Glenwood
Go in the back way via Edwards Mill and through a business park, never enter that mall off Glenwood. It is indeed, a nightmare.
What are the steps to automate my Apple to turn off my room lights
I’m sold
I recently cut the cord and moved to fiber network. My Samsung TV is a crap in stream youtube TV. This Apple TV 4k is fabulous after a little tweak in settings. Even youtube videos sound far better.
With the addition of TailScale with exit node capabilities makes it an interesting product for those who understand the capabilities and usage of TailScale
I have one. I like it, my wife hates the touch sensor part of the remote. I will say the TCL Roku TV we have is perfectly fine, and in many ways more user friendly. I mainly use the Apple TV now for Plex and for listening with airpods.
You can turn off that touch sensor in setting. Hope this helps.
Not sure why but mine says that too. It feels like the only reason to own one…
A fun drinking game might be taking a sip every time he says, "Apple TV" 🍻
Hiccup, pardon, hiccup! 😂
To me the best thing of Apple tv is the bluetooth transmitter feature. I use it so much. I use it alot in various speakers. Like a JBL shower speaker and other big speakers. For example when I turn on already paired speakers the apple tv streams it without turning on the TV or apple tv itself. The apple tv light is off but still playing music on my speaker. I use it alot in parties. Take the apple tv paired with a portable monitor and any bt speaker that has mic 🎤 and turns into the perfect karaoke box. Relatives and friends refer to it as the the apple karaoke box. They even bought one when they see what it is capable of.
I do not have the latest apple tv because I do not want to input all my passwords again.
I’m gonna upgrade my AppleTV soon because I have the First 4k edition with the 12X chip
I love it.
I wish the had the 128GB Apple TV 4K in WI-FI ONLY!
At 6:53 how do you get the Home app to recognize when the TV is on?
Are there TV shows that you can watch for free or must you pay monthly subscription?
because I’m comparing it to Amazon, which allows free TV watching
Pretty sure that saving logins ISN'T within Apple's control, since it needs authentication tokens (cookies) from the third-party. Although, they could save the password, it'd still require you to login again.
Keychain, encrypted. Apple has enough pull to force big companies to do things their way. Cookies? This isn’t Chrome.
@@grubu4131 only for the password, not the actual login.
I lost my LG OLED magic remote im thinking about getting a Apple TV 4k due to the lag in apps i was having anyways.
I am also having problems with my Samsung Serif's out-of-the-box software lagging. I wonder where I can get an HDMI cable in my country
I wonder if it has optical output?
But it’s expensive 😭 still kinda want one just because it’s much smoother than the chromecast.
First rule for any media streaming box: does it come pre-installed with Kodi (or at least can install it in a simple way)?
The swipe feature on the remote is the first thing I switched off, I did not like it at all. Besides that, I love my Apple TV 4K. I stream everything trough it, even "regular" tv watching through my provider's app. It's so handy to have everything in one place, and controlled by a single remote.
I love the swipe feature. I always try and swipe when I’m using my normal tb remote
Swipe is the reason to buy to me
its really fast but I hate the fact that the select button is also a touch pad. if I am not careful, I will move the selection right before pressing the button. It is a design flaw that I didnt expect to see in an Apple product
Wifi one isn’t great when you stream 4k better the pay the few extra for the wired one
So do I wait for the next Apple TV or buy this one now?
Im also wondering… when is the next generation of Apple TV coming out?
@@JorgeGonzalez-nk6bv It will probably come out a few days later after you decide to buy the current one lol
8:30 Hmmm. My PS3 did already shut down my TV too via CEC. It _really_ isn't worth bragging as a feature 🙂
Hi i just want to ask if you use sony mx5 will the spacial audio still work? Like the air pods max?
No, Spatial Audio (for now) only works with Apple's own headphones. You can use AirPods Max or Beats headphones, but I believe the limitation here is the H1 and H2 chips Apple puts into their headphones. You can read more about the support in Apple's documentation here: support.apple.com/en-us/HT211775 - Josh
I get Dolby Vision over a HDMI 2.0 cable. 2.1 is almost unnecessary.
So since I have to setup using my Apple ID does this mean anyone that uses the Apple TV device will also have access to my private stuff like pictures and messages….?
Yes! That’s why we’re all laughing at you! You’re funny lookin 😂
upgrade the speaker, sad seeing the speaker that small with that huge amp
How did you manage to make the Apple TV to show as an accessory in the Home app Automations?
It automatically shows up in the list of devices for automations when its added to your home in the Apple Home app.

I’m sold. Just ordered mine. The OS on my Samsung is sluggish and aggravating.
Is this a commercial or a review?
The apple tv shouldve been a wireless charging device and the remote shouldve had wireless charging capabilities.
I'm using PS4 as my streaming device it's have UA-cam and Netflix and Spotify ECT.
0:27 honestly the Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) often has a better picture then my (what was top of the line for the Amazon tv) Amazon Omni 55 inch default software.
Same TV. But different hardware powering it. And it’s the FIRST GEN Apple TV 4K…
I have three NVIDIA shields and three apple 4K
I am seriously considering getting the Apple TV 4K higher-end version with Ethernet port, since the box will be very close to the cable modem/router so I can connect it using a CAT 6E cable. I do hope that Netflix updates their app for Apple TV, though.
Get the higher end. It’s worth it!
@@VicViperT301Pilotwhich one?
I think it’s under rated. But the A series chip is what you’re paying for. Especially since they’re doing more with gaming. I can see an M2 apple tv releasing to play full games with there services.
I just picked one up for £33.95 as I had an Apple gift voucher from my MacBook purchase. I decided to go for an Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen as my TV is 4K@60Hz and, my past two Smart TVs have died in two years each and I used the Smart TV apps every day for that time period, so I want this TV to last for as long as possible 😅. Just out of curiosity, what is theatre mode exactly in that Siri Shortcut you showed?
It's a mode on the Apple Watch that dims the display so it won't show when you're in a movie theater, for example.

Well of course a Tv should focus on picture quality!!!😂🎉 Thats why this product makes sense to buy :)
Can I play 4K videos in UA-cam app ?
Yes if your tv/monitor supports 4k yes
Please please please does it have the app store
It does
There are two big downsides with the AppleTV for me :
- It doesn't passthrough audio that isn't Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital+. It means if you're using it as a streaming box for Plex or Infuse, most of your audio will be transcoded to PCM, and you'll lose the Atmos metadata on things like Dolby TrueHD (Plex is also not well thought out on it so even Dolby Digital content gets transcoded unlike on Infuse).
- It applies video dithering that cannot be disabled. This is a big issue if you're on an OLED screen watching content in 24hz mode as that dithering can cause the panel to flicker in dark areas on low bitrate content.
If these are big issues for you, I would recommend going for an Nvidia Shield Pro instead as it has none of these two issues, although the software experience isn't as great as on tvOS aside from that.
