A match you thought could only happen in Gran Turismo we’re bringing to you IRL straight from Australia! Con’s Ford Falcon EL was built by legendary Aussie racer Glenn Seton and has all the cool racecar things like dual fuel ports and a ITBs on its 5.0L Windsor small block. Nismo built a certified champion when it made Dale’s Super GT 350Z, and it also has the cool racecar things like loads of carbon fiber, giant radiator ducts, and a VQ35 so spicy it needs a restrictor.

This Australian series has been massively entertaining. People bringing out some cars with legit history.
💯
Plus those Aussie guys are so wholesome
Straya butha
I couldn't agree more! One of my only consistently watched youtube channels, and this Australian series has been a breath of fresh air.
Very few “legit” car “enthusiasts”
That 350z must be insane with the restrictions taken out
Dude, my jaw dropped when he said that 🤣
Those snorkels look tiny, that poor engine must be close to choking!
550 crank with no restriction, compression and revs must be crazy
Yea FR whyyyy did he show up with those on?
There's NA 350z a with a 640hp homemade built GT-LM that Sacha Anis custom did. way more impressive than this Nismo made one. and that's saying something considering he did this in a small fab shop and isn't a Nissan employee. go watch it your jaws will drop even more. 9K rpm's with ITB's NA Vq35 pushing over 600 crank. IT's the best sounding VQ EVER.

That 350z was honestly a treat! Also the falcon is a great machine!! 10/10 content! Both cars are champions & still cooking 🧑🍳
The JGTC cars are some of the coolest looking blend of racecar aero and factory chassis with the crazy fenders and duct work. They are so iconic to anyone thats played Gran Turismo as well.
The current GT500 is also impressive as well. Being able to match (even beat) current Hypercar/GTP speed and doing all of that with an Inline-4 Turbo
Hands down the coolest pair of cars we've seen on This Vs That

Dude, THESE are the cars we grew up with. This was one of the best episodes solely based on the history behind these two cars.
I've never seen this Ford falcon before but it just oozes iconic 90s race car
The Ford vs Holden team was pretty much the biggest rivalry especially down in Australia. If you want to check out more 90s Australian race cars, check out the VS/VT commodores that this thing would race against at Bathurst.

Man those Japanese GT cars are so sick. All of em really. Nissan obviously having many of the classic ones, but man they are so cool. I love Ford too tho, great Era for sure of Ford racing.
I can't believe that Z was quicker on the straight considering it was down by over 260hp, less torque and with Aero that is designed for max down force. Absolutely unreal ❤
I think old mate may have been not going to redline, those engines have very short life cycles and are extremely expensive

That was an awesome race! SVG is an incredible driver!
I hope he goes full time, then we can enjoy watching the v8 supercars again

was not ready for that jumpscare
Without question, Seton's EL is my favourite V8 of the era. The stance, the livery, the sound.. just perfection.
Race bred cars are awesome, I would love a build biology of the 350z
The owners are the type of guys that do those weird Rally races in Gran Turismo that gifted race cars as prizes 😂
Yesss I have been waiting for this line up!! I was only 3 years old when the EL Falcon was on track but it was my first love when it comes to racing cars and racing in general 😍
Sick Z ! Legendary
Probably the nicest VQ i ever heard
Gary! That freaking intro bro! 😂😂😂 I was eating lunch and almost spit my drink out!
A vq that actually sounds good, I’m impressed
these vids brighten my day and reinforce my passion ! :) tyvm
Truly amazing to see a actual old nismo race car
It’s not a real one, this one has a gt300 engine with aero from gt500 it never would of actually raced in this configuration
@@Hughjanus720it's a GT300 spec Z with updated aero. GT500 Zs sits way lower, making the front fenders stick upward
Oh! the tire fitment part got me unaware 🤣🤣
I felt blueballed on the Z. It sounds like its missing at least another 2k rpm at the top during the shifts
The editor deserves his job. Gary is an American treasure. Carry on,bois.
At 13:43 I’m shocked Zac didn’t pick the American V8 (with side-exhaust)! Crushed heart and soul. 😅
It’s not an American v8 though
@@shxgvnn4865Ah, yeah that Windsor 302/5.0 might have been built by Ford Australia. But Ford America built/shipped some 302s to Aus, too. I guess I meant “American designed”. - can we agree on that? 😅
this brung back GT4 memories for me. These two cars are iconic!
Loving this Australian series! Some of these cars I've been following for years on Instagram etc, and that 1998 EL Falcon Supercar, 25 years!
So awesome to see these drag!
What I’d do to drive that 350z… wow!! Great video Hoonigan!!🔥🙏🏼
About Hawk pads: I use the 5.0’s for autocross and daily driving. They’re fantastic, BUT I do NOT recommend the HPS pads. I had them on an 03 Mazda protege and they were terrible to daily drive on, just my personal experience. Now about the 5.0’s: I’ve overheated them a couple times at tail of the dragon to the point they were bellowing smoke yet they never faded! They’re very consistent and great for autoX when they’re hot. Great pad, can’t recommend them enough!
Can't wait to run the dragon in hopefully the z32. Also, I've been looking fornpads to run on it and will look into those 5.0
Definitely love watching grip cars drag race; outstanding!
Man that Falcon brings back some memories, only wish it was the 1997 variant with the same colours but the #30 that Seton used to win the championship that year. I grew up going to Oran Park, Eastern Creek and Bathurst to see that era of car race, V8 Supercar's still have their charm now, but that time from the mid 90's to the mid 2000's was so special as a fan.
That Falcon is sick!
Aussies still killin it! Would love to know how fast that Z would go without the restrictors. Would give a few forced induction cars a run for their money. Not bad for a little V6
Love this show!!!! Hugs from Brasil!!!
One of the coolest matchups to date! Well done
That old school Aussie V8 sound 😍😍
Damn this is the race ive been waiting for, the z sounds so wild and i love it but you cant not be a fan of V8 supercars!
Absolutely loving this Australian series. You guys gotta do more of this stuff. Maybe travel about some more there are some sic cars in Aus
Best Down Under episode so far. Two insane cars! Loved it
That falcon is soooo cool! Period touring cars are the jam
Holy shit the Nissans SOUND! MY GOD it's AMAZING!
INCREDIBLE pair of cars. Loved this one
I am not surprised on the dig win. Those GT cars have some insane amounts of traction from a dig or very low speeds.
(edit) man even on the roll race, with the amount of downforce that Z33 has, still running away from that old Falcon. Not even counting that big power difference compared to a smaller weight.
How quick the z slaps limiter doing doughnuts is sick 👌
Ah this match up brought back some Gran Turismo 4 memories!
Best sounding VQ I've ever heard! sounds sic rolling through the gears.
Great racing. Two sick ass race cars, especially the Nismo Z.
Oh man I love seeing these older types of iconic race cars still being driven hard! Also 5:42 what’re those two “soft/hard” adjustment levers used for? Great content as always, much love from Texas!
Probably for adjusting the sway bars.
Noooo way huh? Someone please chime in!
Those are for adjusting the sway bars. All the V8 Supercars run them except for the latest generation where that was removed by regulations
Yep, sway bars. The cars had big fuel tanks so from full to empty the balance of the car would change enough that being able to adjust the bars gave an advantage. Would have probably helped in the wet too.
As said above swaybars front and rear adjustment. The use to change them regularly through the race based on fuel load and tire wear. Also if it rained they would adjust.
Gary isn't the metric we need, but he's definitely the one we deserve 🤘🏻
Wow, these two race cars are epic. Great to see these cars up close and see what makes them tick
These are both Iconic cars. I used to race that Ford around Bathurst on my Playstation.
This blew my mind that the nissan took the win! Hp numbers mean nothing when driver mod and car weight outshines everything else. ✌🏼🖤
And the sequential gearbox
@@PunkPinoblew your mind 😂😂 lite weight is everything
The other thing is gearing. Those V8 Supercars also run really tall gearing for high top speed.
@@Saffsadiff gears and gearbox and the fact its built for high speed racing kinda plays a part, its like expecting a nascar to dominated at a drag strip or drift event
That falcon was about to pass the z if it was a bit longer...aussie muscle 20 plus years old still done well against new technology z
Much harder to hook up that power and torque through a similar size tyre. For those not in the know, the V8 Supercars were limited to 7,500rpm by regulations !!
The falcon has tall gearing and is meant for high speed racing vs car setup for actual launching speed
to be fair, the Z has tiny intake restrictors on it plus the aero that slows it down the straight line
The Falcon reminds me, so much of my cousin's old English Touring car replica.
That episode was really interesting, we need more of these !!
I think its time for a hoonigan deep south. A hoonigan down unda division!
Regardless of your preferred spec, you got to admit, the internal young fella inside us all is losing it right now!
Love these series
Hollie heck😮 thanks guys made my night vid like this dont get to see pretty much any day 🎉
May I kindly ask if you guys are going to post Lia’s Pikes Peak run? Pretty please, thanks.
Good race! The Falcon was catching up by the end, due to lower drag. I wish we could've had a run with just the Falcon or the celebratory donuts at the end, to hear that glorious ITB V8! Damn tha VQ is noisy, and this one's not even that bad...
I think it has more to do with the gearing, 1st gear on those old supercars was so long, they used to regularly break axles or burn out clutches from a standing start, especially if they had a full tank (like Bathurst).
Long gears and the weight gap led to the Falcon losing 2-1. However, if a GT500 spec 350Z competed instead of the GT300 (which is impossible because those cars are technically "loaned" from the big 3 Japanese Manufacturers, and are often donated to museums after their tenure on the track ends with a few exceptions such as the 90s GT500 Supra that's rotting outside of a shop in the Japanese Midlands), the Falcon would lose 2-0.
The Falcon is a legend regardless. Classic work of art.
Love them old v8 supercars, they look and sound so good imo. Hoonigan’s editors are on fire. The tuck had me crying ..
Really cool race cars. I’d love see a comparison on a track with these. Falcon makes more power, but the Z has more downforce
That model Won Bathurst 😂😂
@@Saffsa Yeah and that Z won Suzuka.... twice....
@@Saffsa that z has a high win pedigree as well. Why I want to see both on the same course.
@@jameshealy4594 yeh but the El is a glorified Mum Dad and the kids grocery getter 😂😂👍👍
@@rotarypower956yeh but falcon has been built for racing and has won and the z is just something someone built so no real comparison
Whoever decided to make the background Scotto's wall of motors and transmissions is in need of a raise.
I grew up with v8 supercars and seeing that brought back so many memories of Sunday watching the races with my dad.
However that 350z is insane! We need the exhaust recipe for that stat, if vq's sounded like that drift events would be so much more enjoyable
It's 6-2 header with dual exits, that's why it sounds like you have twin inline-3s. All VQ30 and VQ35 in JGTC / SuperGT always sounded like that
Love love love this “down unda” series! Anyone else catch that scene when the Z was spitting flames out of it’s side pipes?!?
I wonder what a track battle between these two motorsports would look like. A much newer Supercar would probably be needed to keep up with any GT500 car (with restrictors like seen here)
GT500 would need a lot of weight handicap & power restrictors for parity. GT500’s would have closer races with Formula 2 & LMP cars around a track. Saying that the v8 Supercar series generally did have some of the best battles & more exciting races than most
@@pkblade GT300?
@@MJY5drives add slight weight handicap to the GT300 then would be interesting
The Z reminds me of having my CRX with a B16 and tyranny with that super short gearing that made you feel like a God from stop light to stop light. 😂
Tyranny 😂😂
@samteks125 You caught that !
I was going to change it back but thought my spellcheck was hilarious for that one, so I left it as I'm leaving it now. 🤣
Such a great mix of noise! Angry Bee of the Z along side the classic noise of the screaming v8 supercar. Sound up!!!
So interesting about left side driving position super gt Z.
I have never known this individual. So cool!!
Vq35de haters will never understand what this gt500 car is capable of.
It had a vq30dett and then a 4.5litre v8 there was no vq35
@@Hughjanus720 bruh you need to do a bit more research the 350z in this video has a naturally aspirated VQDE.. the ford had a v8...
@@trilliamogdlocog4986 he's correct in the context of GT500. The GT500 350Zs first used VQ30DETTs, then VK45s.
Your comment is correct about THIS car being VQ35 powered, but thats because it's a GT300 car, not GT500.
This is a “fake” gt500, it has the gt300 engine with gt500 body kit etc, it never would of been a competition car it’s a mock up to look like one
that's a GT300 spec car, not a GT500. GT500 350Zs actually sits way lower, making the front fenders stick out even more than the GT300 spec Zs
They need to arrange someone to take Zac and that for laps around Bathurst 😂😂😂😂😂
