    The theory about dragons belonging to certain bloodlines makes a lot of sense. I've always found it strange that familial incest was considered necessary even in old Valyria, because if the point was to keep Valyrian blood or dragonrider blood, the dragonrider families could still marry each other without diluting the blood. However if it's really as you said and a specific line of dragon belong to a specific family, everything suddenly makes perfect sense. I wonder when exactly the Targaryens lost this knowledge. It also makes sense in Dany's storyline, because even if the dragons she hatched weren't from the line of dragons belonging to the Targaryens, her own son (her blood) was one of the sacrifices that brought her dragons to life, so it could be interpreted as Dany recreating this ritual and starting a new line of dragons connected with her bloodline.

      See, I totally thought that this bloodline thing proved the eggs Dany had were the ones Elissa Farman stole. I didn’t even think about her baby!

      My idea for when this knowledge was lost goes in the direction of the time when Aenys Targaryens migrated to Dragonstone because Daenys The Dreamer had a prophetic vision of the doom of Valyria. Aenys didn't seem to have conquering aspirations at all, in fact the only thing he did was survive the doom and not carry on slavery anymore, so his generation might have been the last one actively knowing the exact purpose for familial incest and, after the doom of all the other dragon rider families (let's not forget that other valyrian looking people that survived the doom weren't dragonriders, Velaryon the most obvious one), they decided to not pass this knowledge to their next generations to avoid other people from being corrupted by this power. After all, Aenys seemed pretty a chill guy. So familial incest kept happening but was explained only as a tradition, without giving them details.
      As for the sacrifice needed to bond a family with dragons, there are three possible explanations s of why Daenerys can hatch and bond her three dragons. The one that you said about her baby dying could be a very good explanation, the simplest one would be that she's a Targaryen and those eggs are the three eggs Elissa Farman stole from their family long time ago, so the bong was always there for her to use it. The third posible explanation is Summerhall...
      The gost of high heart came to Kingslanding with Jenny and she made prophecies, one of the prince that was promised comming from the line of Aerys and Rhaella, so their father Prince Jahaerys made them marry. But she was also present at the tragedy of Summerhall in 259 AC. We know that Aegon (Egg) was trying to do something with seven eggs, he had wanted to hatch dragons for a long time and maybe he didn't even know exactly what was happening as he caused a fire that killed almost everyone on that tower, but there were three survivors, and the deceased maester sent a letter half destroyed saying "...died, but for the valor of the Lord Command...", implying that those survivors were going to die too. The final count of the deceased ones was Aegon, Prince Duncan, Duncan the Tall and Maester Corso; and the survivors were Rhaella, Raegar and The Woods witch, making that 7 persons to match seven eggs. Maybe I'm spiraling, who knows. The most reasonable explanations would be the other ones, but I just thing summerhall was a weird event

      Well, to be fair, even in our world we had Nobles who married their own family, often cousins, because they'd be able to essentially keep the power within the family, and they didn't exaclty have any magical blood or anything.
      So it's possible they did it to keep their own monopoly on their family's holding. Just saying.

    If the dragons have the souls of dead Valyrians, and the dragons are named after Valyrian gods, I think for sure the Valyrians practiced ancestral worship pre-Doom. This would make total sense, and echoes what Daenerys says at the start of ACOK, that her House is her god (hence why she names her dragons after family members - in a way restarting the cycle by deifying her kin). So Dany has some ingrained understanding of this concept, but the maesters don't. The idea that these gods are ancestors was probably lost somewhere along the way, and the maesters misrecorded it with their Westerosi understanding of what gods are. That to me is the most interesting theory, anyway.

    Hold up!
    If the Emperors/Empresses were more Dynasties than actual individuals, wouldn’t that make the Bloodstone Emperor more of a cultural movement/uprising?
    What if they were a dark religious cult that grew to dominance at the end of the Amethyst Dynasty, forcing those who clung to their old ways into exile (essentially killing them), leading them to flee to, and establish Valyria. This would explain why the Valyrians resemble the penultimate ‘race’ of the Great Empire.
    The Bloodstone Dynasty then consumed itself in its obsession with their dark blood magic ways, which led to the collapse and ‘spoiling’ of Ashai.

      I think The Empire of the Dawn had previously used dragons and blood magic, which brought upon them the long night. In order to end the long night they had to sacrifice in battle most of their dragons and quit their blood magic practices. The Bloodstone Emperor might have brought back those practices and established the breakaway civilization of Valyria, or maybe the Bloodstone clan were the only ones who still had dragons bound to them. The dragon dreams seem to be something less common than dragon riding in Valyria, so I think Daenys had the privilege to be exposed to old and exclusive knowledge of the effects of blood magic, which informed their decisions in their constant struggle to stay at the top of the Valyrian power pyramid.

To show their gratitude Qohori smiths forged him two Valyrian steel swords: dark sister and blackfyre. Blackfyre named after his black dragon (young Balerion). The targaryens appear to have some sort of a “protection racket” of sorts with the free cities. Aegon protects the triarchy against Volantis. Jaehaerys is called to mediate a dispute between Pentos and Braavos.

    A PayPal I missed from Nayana asks: " If you didn't already, could you talk about the symbolism of Aegon the conqueror and his sisters? And what do you think was written in the letter Aegon received from Dorne after Rhaenys' death? Could Rhaenys' death be symbolic to the explosion of the first moon? Love your channel, keep up the good work!"
    So yes, Rhaenys''s and Meraxes's death are 100% moon death / dragons coming form the moon symbols. It's one of the best ones! It's very much a part of the symbolism of the conquerors.. I got into it some about halfway through the Sheepstealer stream last week, and the original scripted breakdown is in an old podcast series called Moons of Ice and Fire; the one you want is "Visenya Draconis." Everything you want and much more is there. It's some of the best symbolism in the story, so thanks for asking and enjoy!
    ua-cam.com/video/JPh6iqu7g7g/v-deo.html
    As for the Dornish letter: I mean to answer that and I forgot! So, whatever was in there, it was some truth that he could only verify by going to dragonstone... where he might have had a glass candle! The letter said something about Rhaenys, some truth he verified with the candle. I don't know what that is, but I just cannot believe the Targaryens have no candles on dragonstone - it's just a long piece of obsidian, and there's lots of that on Dragonstone

    I find it so interesting that if the Great Empire of the Dawn ended up becoming the Valyrians through the Amethyst Empress, that means the same bloodlines have created huge empires and fallen twice, three times if you count Westeros. The way the Great Empire broke up is so similar to how the Free Cities did after Valyria, and how that could easily happen with Westeros by the end of the series.

    I've got a suspicion that the Lazarene are distant relations to the original Valyrians that were shepherds. Think about it. The Lazarene worship "The Great Shepherd". I'm thinking there's a high probability that the original Valyrians, the O.G. V's if you will, were related to the ancient Lazarene and they split because someone started teaching the blood magic to bind dragons and the Lazarene just wanted no part of that blood magic for whatever reason.

The Valyrians marry brother to sister, and The Bloodstone Emperor killed his sister, The Amethyst Empress. Maybe they were married or meant to be married? The Bloodstone Emperor being Azor Ahai doesn’t line up with the timeline I think, So I’m guessing this is a parallel maybe? watching this again: Melisandre confirms that descent is important re. magic with all her "king's blood" insistence. The Valyrians were absolutely trying to concentrate ancestral blood within their families because of a magical connection to their dragons. In the case of the families mentioned as less incestuous, they may have had a tradition of more regular sacrifice (likely well covered up as normal death and cremation). Re. the lemurs, they sound like another fun experiment with blood magic and the white wyrms, to make not Valyrians but other hybrid "beasts" like they were messing with in Gogossos

      shower thought: it was common medieval practice to name kids after family members, like to a goofy extent (how many "Matilda"s existed at the same time c. 1100? ever read a badly edited book about that time the king was Henry and then he crowned his son Henry co-king? ughhh) but the Targs never name anyone after a living relative, the names only get re-used after they die. I think this started as a blood magic thing wherein the new baby was somehow invested with the spirit of the dead relative or something, but has now just turned into re-using the name, in order to keep the familially bonded dragons happy and bonded. The dragons would just lose their minds if they thought you were trying to pass off a new baby as someone they knew was alive, and they clearly know to some extent because they bond for life with their riders

    I love the idea that Cannibal was purely a wild dragon, or at least not descended from any Targaryen dragon. But I think Cannibal having purely wild ancestry would make sense with your sacrifice theory and the Valyrians being kin to the dragons themselves.
    If Cannibal was pureblood wild, he might not have recognised the other dragons as actually being the same species. They named him Cannibal, as if it was a unique trait. Clearly dragons, like most species, don't eat each other often. So why does Cannibal? Maybe he's just kind of nuts, or maybe there's something deeper here.
    And then there's Sheepstealer. GRRM has deliberately left it open as to whether Nettles was dragonseed or not. The fact he's trying to get us to question this to me implies that Nettles had no Targaryen ancestry, but she DID have dragonlord ancestry. I think Sheepstealer was descended from a dragon from the founding of dragonstone, as in whatever lineage of dragons on the island predated Targaryen dragon arrival. And Nettles was descended from the rider(s) who founded the outpost originally.
    So essentially there are three separate bloodlines of dragons on Dragonstone. Whichever dragonlord founded the trade outpost, wild dragons that were probably already there (Cannibal's bloodline), given a wild dragon naturally would roam way further than tamed ones for food, and then finally the Targaryen ones. Eventually these bloodlines merged into one as the dragons interbred, but two stragglers remained, Cannibal and Sheepstealer.
    And what makes this even more likely in my opinion is that dragon eggs can go dormant, as shown by Dany's eggs. Perhaps the bloodlines did fully merge at one point, but the dragonkeepers found abandoned eggs on dragonstone, that might have remained unhatched for decades or even centuries. They thought they might as well hatch them, not realising it was a bad idea, as they assumed Targaryens could tame any dragon.

    I see your Warriors "The Bay" shirt has brought you some good luck! Going up 3-0, with a very Vince Carter-esque "Poster-ization" dunk from Wiggins on Doncic no less, has to feel pretty good. I'll be the first to admit I thought the Mavs would push Golden State in this series but the Dubs have proven as they have over and over these past several years that their is no substitute for playoff experience. I think it is pretty safe to say that the Warriors are Finals bound; although Draymond would probably remind us that the intensity needs to remain until the deed is actually done.
    Out East with Jimmy Butler's status up in the air who knows what'll happen, even if the Heat are up 2-1 right now.
    So I wonder, though it is just complete speculation at this point, how do you think a Championship this year would measure up to the other recent Warriors titles? There is no title like the first; those will always be hard to compete with. But against the "KD" era titles I think this one would be much sweeter, especially given the Dubs weren't obvious favorites like those '17&'18 winning teams.
    They still have a ways to go, but with only 5 wins between them and Championship Glory it is hard not to dream a little.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  2 роки тому +1

      no, we are winning this title I think, it's not wring to see that. It's not people's fault for not seeing it; we were playing very inconsistently before with all of our injuries and some guys trying to find their role. Memphis REALLY helped us round into shape, I give them credit for raising our intensity. Once we got to playing with that level of high focus, we haven't lost it, and now we look like the only real championship team. Boston's flaws are being mercilessly exploited by Miami (Spoelstra is so good!), but Miami is severely limited themselves on offense. I think either team is barbecued chicken against us if we keep playing this way, which I believe we will. Our experience is REALLY showing up at the end of these games, right?
      This title would mean A LOT, to answer your question. A lot because of the injuries they've had to overcome, because of all the endless shit-talking against Steph and the unbelievable lack of respect for his greatness, because it means we've been to 6 Finals in 8 years (with chances for more) and that really puts us on a short list with the all-time dynasties. It would mean A LOT.

    • @Jon.A.Scholt
      @Jon.A.Scholt 2 роки тому

      @@DavidLightbringer I hadn't put much thought into Dynasties until you brought it up but if the Warriors pull this off it makes them very unique as far as "modern" dynasties go. Everyone usually thinks of dynasties as teams who win multiple titles in a row; like the Shaq & Kobe Lakers from '00-'02 or the 90s Bulls being the prime example. Though some do, I wouldn't call the Tim Duncan era in San Antonio a dynasty since their 5 titles, '99, '03, '05, '07, '14 were spread out over 15 years (outside the three from '03-'07). A great run no doubt but dynasty just doesn't seem to fit in their case. But the Warriors don't really fit any of those examples. Their titles (and possible '22 title) would be spread out like San Antonio but not over as long a period; plus they have back to back titles in '17-'18 which San Antonio never did. And like the Bulls they put up a record setting Wins season, even if they didn't win the championship that year.
      And they also have clear "eras" to their dynasty, while dynasties of the past usually only have one era (or two if you're the Bulls). I'd say there are 3; pre-KD, KD, post-KD. Because of the whole Durant era, it'll be very interesting to see how history views this Warriors dynasty. I think most people tend to forget the Warriors won 73 games before Durant. I also think people tend to forget that Steph has won multiple MVPs, though this playoffs he is reminding everyone. Furthermore, the trips they made to the Finals and lost should not count *against* them as so many people do to teams that are runners-up. Losing a Game 7 to Lebron is about as close as you get to a title without winning and the '19 Warriors were simply snake-bitten with untimely injuries. That's not an excuse, it's a fact.
      So I guess on a more "Macro level", where do you think these Warriors stack up to the dynasties of the past? (I'd say we exclude anything before the 80s at least, since the game was extremely different) I'd also like to add that their style of play and Curry's personal style especially, deserve to be taken into account since it has completely changed the way the 3 point shot is viewed and thus has changed the NBA itself.

    On the topic of firewyrms, and fused black stone predating the valyrians, could it be possible that the GEOD dragonlords could have actually been firewyrm-lords using wyrmfire to fuse stone with valyrians later mixing wyvern and wyrm to create dragons and improving upon the process? Firewyrms could have been found in a volcano in westeros and used to create the fortress on battle isle as well as bore the tunnels through it. I only say they would have been found in westeros instead of brought there because the idea putting even a baby firewyrm on a wooden ship for a long sea voyage seems like a bad idea.

    • @DavidLightbringer
      @DavidLightbringer  4 місяці тому +1

      haha so I've thought this entire thing through and yes you can't help but arrive at the idea of trying to put a caged fireworm on a wooden boat and it being a bad idea, lol. I don't think George is imagining that people ever controlled the fireworms, because that would just be too much like Dune, and there aren't volcanoes anywhere near Oldtown. So no I don't think that's the answer. If Azor Ahai is a dragonlord, there HAVE to be dragonlords before Valyria

    Do we know the Valyrians themselves practiced incest? I always thought the Targaryens just did that because there weren't many of Valyrian descent in Westeros. However if they did, then that would explain a LOT about how the Great Empire of the Dawn had multi-ethnic dragon lords.
    And it also could work well with the Velaryons being dark skinned in House of the Dragon. It would explain why they weren't dragon lords back in the day. They physically couldn't be until they had a Targaryen in their family line, despite the fact they clearly had considerable classic Valyrian blood shown through their hair colour. Granted the show isn't canon though.
    It's also interesting that if this is the case the Valyrians evidently chose to practice incest instead of a dragonlord willingly allowing themselves to be brutally sacrificed every generation or so. They brutalised slaves for their empire but weren't willing to suffer a similar fate to ensure it continued.
    Also, here's a scary thought. What if it works in reverse? What if you don't have to sacrifice your parent/grandparent. What if all that matters is how close your blood matches the one who was sacrificed? Because if that's the case, Euron might be able to tame a dragon more permanently by sacrificing his sons. We already know he views them as worth little more than possible blood sacrifice given he's using his unborn child as one.

  • @meganglynn6568

      alsooo I 10000% support the theory that Tyrion is Targaryen and the third head. I think a secondary passive trait of the Lannisters is Greed and they always wanted an in to the Targaryen family and their power. I think their karma for that or the consequences of that generational desire was Johanna being stolen by Aerys and then the Lann's being given deformed Tyrion.

    A defense for the ending:
    Let me start by saying I personally, like many, hated the ending, because it was not well written, it was not well thought-out, and it was not SATISFYING. But the last part , in some respects, may have been the point.
    In many ways, when it comes to fiction, and especially fantasy, we are conditioned to want a satisfying ending. And we call that GOOD storytelling. That a story should include certain beats, and should culminate is satisfying character arcs , and whether the story ends happily, tragically, or bitter-sweetly...we still expect that it ends in a satisfying manner. The characters we love should have their arcs completed. The relevant plot points should be resolved, and the many questions should be answered. We call this satisfying. We call it good writing.
    My response though, ( I dont think highly enough of D and D to think this was their goal) is that sometimes, if a story doesn't deliver a satisfying ending...that could be more meaningful. Because that IS life and IS history. Not all stories end well. Our own lives often do not end well. We all have stories that do not get their resolve. We don't always get the right answers, the right finales, and complete arcs. Some of us die randomly and tragically , our stories cut short. The mechanisms and politics of life often subvert what should be the obvious choices, because millions of real factors and choices effect what would be considered in fiction "lazy writing." SO to have a story, that so OFTEN subverted expectations, you could say that the greatest subversion is to deliver an ending that would satisfy everyone. ( Not only do I think it is impossible to satisfy everyone) The very idea that such an incredible and often times realistic story maybe should NOT have a satisfying end, because that would be unfaithful to life and history. Even in fiction, maybe the story doesn't end well. Not just that an ending could be tragic ( many are) or not happy ( also many stories end unhappily) but the idea that the story isn't resolved correctly is an added touch of realism. Good writing isn't always true to a good story, because it isn't truth. Sometimes what really happens is unsatisfying, dull, grim or even pointless...because that is how many real stories end.
