So I'm watching on my TV , when I got to the part where I saw 2 MG's in the garage I had to go get my phone to comment. First thing, love the project , secondly, I currently have 2 MG'S in my shop , 1 B and 1 Midg.
@ChrisfromKeyfarm at one point I had 10 midgets and a 68 sprite. im down to 4 and a sprite now trying to find a gold badge for the dash of my 76 midget but having no luck. Guess I could send one for the front rubber bumper in to be plated since they are same size. What year midget?
Congrats on the milestone, looking good! I drove my Suzuki 3-cyl swapped 71 Midget around the block about 8 years ago, hasn't moved under its own power since..
Thanks! Mine hasn’t moved since the test drive yet either 😛 I’ve had a lot going on the past few weeks but i’ll be getting back into the build real soon! Hopefully it won’t sit for 8 years…
Thanks! This was completely straight piped with just headers and a down pipe, it now has a small muffler on it just to tame it a bit. Hopefully it still sounds good!
@MarcelaR-dh1ok don't think I would sell my hammered turd brown 79 for that low of a price. It may look rough but it's been qqqqqqqqqqqq quite¹1 reliable one I've ever had. Only breaks down in the driveway. I've driven the wheels off of it twice. Broke the kingpin off the lower a arm at the end of my driveway last time.
Nice to see it running under its own power! Always good to get that validation. Once you get the engine management dialed in to reduce the idle speed and maybe build some torque (seemed really low torque compared to my 1500 Midget) you should have a sweet ride!
Thanks! The idle definitely needs to come down, but in terms of torque, I’m assuming you’re talking about the high rev to get it moving? That was just me being a little hard on the clutch pedal 😛 i think it’ll be just fine, but we’ll see the more testing we do!
@@ModernGarage Ah, I understand being a bit high-revving when testing out a new set-up! I was just comparing it to the stump-pulling low end of my 1500 motor. Granted, by 3500 RMP it was all out of wind, so it made a good tractor engine. I look forward to seeing your refinements and improvements as you go.
Bravo! It was my 1st time for 1 of Ur vids and U were right... It was great. My 1st convertible was a '76 MGB that I sold to family and (long story) lead to a '94 Miata taking its place... Which I bought from family 19 years ago and still have. Added a '99 NB much more recently too. Obviously, I loved watching your video! BTW - the brakes sucked on the '76 B :)
Well done. I'm about to tackle the same job in my '74 chrome bumper B. I love the car but the drivetrain is just unworkable in modern traffic. Enjoyed seeing it move around under its own power.
Yea, when i bought the car my original plan was the rebuild the original engine, but after driving it around the block, i wanted more and then impulse bought a miata… and i’m so happy i did! Thanks for the support man, good luck with your build!
@@ModernGarage Thanks! I've done the install once before on an Exocet; quite a bit easier as that was all nut/bolt assembly and not a lot of fab work. I'll probably try to stick to a 95/96 1.8L as I'm now very used to that ECU and its control systems. It's hard cutting the Miatas up; they're such great cars. But there are fewer and fewer MGs on the road and they deserve to be kept alive. This is a great swap.
@@darrylyoes414 I pulled my 1.8 out of an 02 Miata. Be for warned there was a lot of Fab work to be done on my 73 to get this to fit right. I had a good driving Midget but needed the extra gear and HP to pull our little teardrop camper. The 1275 with her 65hp just wasn't cutting it on any of the hills. I still have the 1275 and tranny in my garage, but there's no turning back now. Se e you on the road Glenn and Jane An American Couple
@@AnAmericanCouple You don't have that engine/tranny in your garage any more. I bought it from you to put in one of my projects! (...and I thank you for it!)
Excellent! Well done. Very exciting. Looking forward to the next installments, and to see how you can improve brakes. Steel braided lines? Brake booster? 4 wheel disk brakes (there's a kit you can buy for the rears)? The brakes on my Midget are disturbing. You kind of have to stand on them to get them to work effectively.
thanks! Yea the brakes work, just not confidence inspiring 😛 might just be that i’m not used to manual brakes, but i definitely need to do something before i do a quicker test drive
@mundanestuff change the flexible brake lines to the steel braided lines your car will feel like it has power brakes then. It will lock the wheels up with stock brakes and braided lines.
Well.... No fan and a pretty small radiator. That will never fly in Florida! I'm using an S-10 Rad in mine, But yours is running mine is not. great job! don't let people tell you Midget brakes are no good. that is not true. Good Calipers, pads and fluid and they work well. They stop mine and my Teardrop camper behind it. See you on the Road Glenn and Jane An American Couple
DUDE! I know I was there but man, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
Thanks man!
That's GREAT!!!
I really like these little cars. Good on you, mate!
I love them too! Lots more coming in the future!

AWESOME! Great job! Quite the car you have there.
haha thanks! and thanks for hopping over from instagram 😛 i appreciate it
Can't wait to see more of this car
Life has been very busy. Wanted an updated a WHILE ago, will try to have one out soon! Thanks for the interest and support brother

For an instant upgrade for the brakes try the braided stainless lines they dont expand when you press the pedal as much as the rubber ones do.
thanks for the tip!
Sounds great.

awesome. Glad you got out to enjoy your hard work.
Thanks! New fan is here and in for the rad, so once the weather shapes up again, i may test a little more
Sweet ride my man. Good luck with it. Looks like loads of fun to drive
Thanks man! Can’t wait to get it buttoned up and put more often
Great video...had a 79 Midget ...identical to yours. Purchased my first one in 76. 3500$ new.
that’s a wild price!

well done! How come your idle is so very high?
it just needs to be adjusted. It’s partly due to me removing the iacv as well i think
Our world is better for your project
✊🏻
But dude! A Midget? Why would you choose the worst MG to work on? A B would not have cost much more and you’d have such a better car!
I hope you’re not taller than 5’8”. You don’t have the room to drive it like you could have.
i don’t get why people think this? I am 5’11 m’y brother is 6’2” and we both have midgets and both fit comfortably!
Man the idle sounds so high
was the first drive, we were figuring stuff out! much better now
