      In the 50's, when he had many hit single records for Chess (released on Checker Label) he used a Dearmond mechanical tremolo, and a Magnatone amp with real pitch-shifting vibrato.
      In his late period (as here) he definitely was using some kind of electronic distortion either built into the guitar or the amp. When my old band opened for him in "72 he was using a vintage Magnatone M-35 (solid state!) amp
      feeding 2 large Fender stacks.

    • @bobaldo2339
      @bobaldo2339 Рік тому +1

      @@GeraldoPMJr I suspect you are right. But he did not use those effects in '72. His sound was the same as in the 50's (my preference by far). I saw him many times in the late 50's - sometimes at Porky Chedwick's (a Pittsburgh DJ) record hops where you could closely observe everything he was doing, and even ask him questions. Porky really pushed his records on the radio.

    La chitarra di Bo Diddley è unica sia per la forma e per il tipo di suono che emette un suono rotondo in cui si avverte proprio la sua natura elettrica che trasmette allo spettatore la sensazione che noi sentiamo dentro di noi quando sentiamo scorrere dentro le nostre vene il sangue.

And we will be the old people we didn't want to be shaking our head in disbelief saying "this is music? No let me go put on the ancient classics channel before they put all those gizmos and doohickeys into it."

      You were so lucky to have met the man and seen him play live so many times. I was old enough to have seen him (born in 61) but was ignorant of his music during my teen years because of all the classic rock being played. Not until i became a HUGE George Thorogood fan did i realize how great Elias AKA Bo was. George gets ZERO credit for his work. He IMO has kept the old blues greats music alive. He covers almost a 150 great blues players songs. IMO he made those great songs that i never heard better. Better one might ask? Yes because he added a slide guitar and a killer sax and in most cases turned a blues song into a blues/rock song. I envy your past you got to me some of the greatest legends to ever grace the stage. You seen them Raw and Uncut!

    The female bass player (Debby Hastings) was with him for almost 25 years (including at the concert when he had his stroke) and was actually appointed his musical director 5 years after this performance here, so I imagine they played this the way they felt like playing it that particular day with Bo's full cooperation and prior knowledge. People say, "Bo Diddley, one of the greats", "I always respected Bo Diddley", but it's odd how things change. I saw Bo Diddley twice in quick succession, June 1982 and March 1983, in the Fforde Grene pub (now knocked down) in Harehills, a poor suburb of Leeds. Ticket at the door, on neither occasion was it even half full.
    Why was Bo Diddley spending most of his life playing draughty boozers in the north of England in 1982 / 1983? I have no idea. Britain was riding the crest of new wave / new romantic, nobody was interested in old blues fellers for those few years. But maybe he was still treated better than he was in America.
