That's also the power of Gretsch guitars at play here. The Gretsch company made drums for decades before they made guitars and when they did make guitars it was like they were meant to be played/bashed like drums, ha ha. If you like this look up some isolated tracks of Malcolm Young of AC/DC who's another famous Gretsch player. But again really simple parts just played with a lot of guttural force which you can learn if you practice that specifically. Anyway check out Malcolm's stuff and you'll see what I mean when you get there. But yeah, Bo Diddley's great for this stuff don't get me wrong. I could really ramble on about what kind of wild beatings these guitars can take but I'd reveal just how much of a nerd I really am, ha ha. Anyway hope this helps. Cheers!
I do the same! Not a lot of technical stuff here, but he had rythym and soul. He put his whole heart into what he did. I try and do it, when I play.👍😎🎸🎶
I hosted Bo at Club Soda, Vancouver Canada. 1987. His sound check almost blew me clean back against the wall. I had no idea the voodoo blues blast I was in for. It was an amazing show.
the only guy in the world who makes me feel the music in soul. Its the most real music ever. I love me some BO DIDDLEY!!!!!! SSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!
@bigdancd Bo was one of the first early rock stars I saw live back when I was a freshman in high school. It was at the University of Dayton Fieldhouse in May 1956. In addition to Bo, there was Big Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, The Drifters, The Platters, Clyde McPhatter, and Bill Haley and the Comets. It was really my first live rock concert. All the acts were incredible to this "green" white boy and Bo was awesome with his music and dancing moves. Bo really made an impression on me with that "sound" of his; the Bo Diddley beat. I was hooked then and as I said before, I bought everything he put out on 45's and later on LPs. Extraordinary musician!
I love this so much. Its the 70s and you have a lot of rock stars from the 50s doing the same sort of thing they were doing 20 years prior. Not going too hard with their sound. Meanwhile you have Bo godamn Diddley up here in his 40s or 50s taking his 50s sound and giving that hard grit. 50s music with 70s grit is almost its own incredible genre of music. Truly he is the original king of rock and roll.
I saw him in an oldies road show w/Fats, Jerry Lee, and Chuck..Bo and Fats stole the show..they cranked..and really put out..Chuck and Jerry Lee did ok, just looked a bit pissed they were there..
Mark Johnson, yea. Bo wasn't just going thru the motions playing his 50's early 60's stuff. He brought out " Bo Diddley Itis" which is close to being a metal tune.
I don't care who you've seen live... Has there ever been anyone who worked HARDER during a performance than Diddley did here? Nothing fancy, maybe, but pure, hard core and raw. Absolutely electric.
He's like that in most of his performances. If you want to see a cool, skinny Bo check out his first Ed Sullivan performance in '59. Plays some gorgeous shimmery guitar on his signature tune.
Bo Diddley meanest cleanest player ever my hero. Rockin the crowds in heaven. Bo Shifted into overdrive on this one. He could play as good as anyone. Stayed in his main chords. Love it
See that nerdy white guy at 2:22 minutes into the video ? THAT is the power of Bo Diddleys music ! That white guy doesn't even know what it is he's feeling, but he KNOWS he's feeling some thing he has never felt before. AND it has touched him to his very core. HE will never forget that night. I met him in the Charlotte airport. I said "People ever say that you look like Bo Diddley?" He said "I say that every morning when I wake up and look in the mirror." Talked to him about work (find what you like and don't stop) shook his hand and got his autograph in '93.
Everytime I took someone to see Bo Diddley it was like a religious experience for them. My oldest son turned to me on the way out of his first Bo Diddley show with tears in his eyes and just said "thank you".
One of the BEST concerts I've ever seen was Bo Diddley in Albury N.S.W. He told the audience that his next tune was the last of the show, looked at my watch and thought I would be out in about ten minutes. 45 mins later he finished, just him and his guitar no backing group. SENSATIONAL. Better than Hendrix. Bo is the right hand of the devil & Jimi the left hand. Imagine if they could have shared a stage

I saw Bo several times, but the one that really stood out was a Murry the K show in Brooklyn circa 1965. Bo was really on, and had two encores. When he finally he finally went off after about 40 minutes the crowd kept cheering so loud for about 10 minutes , you couldn't hear anything. The next performer up was Jerry Lee Lewis, and he refused to come out for at least an additional 10 minutes. What a show, Bo had no equal, not Chuck Berry, not anyone. He used to fry chicken in his dressing room in an electric fry pan that he took on the road with him. He was royally screwed by his record label because he did not read the fine print in his contract. (very common in the 50's and 60's).
