@@HandyHanderson hahaha thanks for this life truly is much more simple that we believe but we love making fun stories at any chance the mind finds it possible. lol your explanation makes a lot of sense
Personally I feel like oda has had to improvise alot. I really don't think that oda had this particular set of details for luffy's awakening when ace died ..
@@ClutchZee Same, it's not a "everything has been planned from the BEGINNING!" but you can tell Oda has been wanting to write these scenes for a very long time as ideas floating in his head.
Going on that whole "the more powerful he gets, the more jolly he gets", I think what's inspiring about Luffy is that he just gains more confidence as a person. Like, he's definitely become more mature - he's a powerful captain, not just in raw strength but in leadership too. He's a goofy man, but not so goofy that he can't acknowledge danger, he's just so confident in his crew and himself that he doesn't see any reason to worry about most things, and I think that's just, I dunno, kinda warm and fuzzy to me. Especially when comparing to other BIG STRONK Shonen Bad Boys. Also hi, I'm a new sub cuz I just found out there's a huge OP community on UA-cam.
It also doesn't necessarily matter against Blackbeard, due to being able to cancel devil fruits. In fact the more Luffy relies on it the more devastating taking it away becomes.
I mean, we think of it as gear 5th as far as I can tell, but wasn't it also supposed to be his awakening? So far we've never seen blackboard try to nullify an awakened devil fruit user, only standard users, albeit still some extremely powerful users.
@@chattaboxxx2332 his power negates devil fruits. Awakening should not matter because Blackbeard is going to absorb their awakening. Think of Blackbeard's power as a black hole. Nothing escapes.
I'm really not worried for Blackbeard, he's the only character in universe with two abilities and they're both pretty insane abilities at that. And I'm sure there's another secret twist with him that we currently are not aware of.
I mean he has the strongest Logia fruit (which is also the only fruit that negates any other DF) and the absolute most destructive DF that there is. He also has most likely really strong Haki and will eventually get a third fruit, possibly a really busted mythical Zoan Teach won't be a pushover
Blackbeard is one person who has the right abilities to face off with God-Luffy. A devil fruit negator and a fruit that allows him to fire invisible waves of pure destruction in every direction.
I don’t particularly get peoples “chosen one” hang up when it comes to his fruit being a mythical Zoan. Luffy was always pretty much a chosen one kind of character, dude is the brother of a world noble and the revolutionary army’s chief of staff, the brother to the son of the King of the Pirates and Whitebeard’s 2nd division commander, the son of the most wanted man in the world Dragon, the grandson of the Navy’s hero Garp, he carries the Will of D, trained by the King of the Pirates number 2 the legendary Dark King Rayleigh, and inspired from the get go by one of the most powerful men in the world in Red Haired Shanks. Hell really, Shanks giving Luffy the Straw hat at the beginning was practically telling us “he’s been chosen”. Being a “chosen one” doesn’t mean he can’t lose or have struggles or needs to get stronger so the hang up really doesn’t make much sense to me, he’s always been a chosen one type of character
As much as I hate the idea of Luffy (Like every Shounen Protagonist ) being a destined/chosen/prophecy one., I've been thinking his mom or someone related to him is a Celestial Dragon. Ideally his mom being a CD and his Dad being a carrier of D would align with the whole chosen one thing as well.
Also, Luffy being the chosen one with god powers doesn't change the fact that he spent the overwhelming majority of the series as some dude with a rubber body. Both from his perspective and pretty much everyone else.
These are all great points but I think it’s not that the power it’s self is what makes him a chosen one, but that despite having this pedigree he still had to earn everything he had, his personality and ambition is what led to him being a more powerful and capable pirate, his creativity turned an otherwise mundane devil fruit into an incredibly strong one. But when he’s just been given god powers that also make him the reincarnation of joy boy it feels like it’s unearned and takes away from his accomplishments. All that being said still love one piece just have an instinctual dislike of this decision.
@@NotSoMax forst if all, nothing has shown / hinted at Luffy being a reincarnation of joyboy. Second, i feel like his devil fruit awakening is definitely earned, as everyone has been expecting it to happen for quite a while now too.
Putting a spoiler title and thumbnail is top tier? Remember when he'd shit on channels that did that. I'm waiting for the Raid Shadow Legends sponsorship
People seem to have forgot about things like “water luffy” and “tank man” and many other goofy ways luffy has fought serious villains throughout the story. And I also trust Oda to mix in some seriousness with the kaido fight. Also I think Luffy being “cartoony” doesn’t make the whole story cartoony because there will always be those pure badass characters, especially Zoro, that we can rely on for our more serious edgy badass moments
That's fine and all but my main issue is the bs redcon of the fruit. There was no build up or hints to it before wano. Then all of a sudden, nope he's a mythic zoen... Left a real bad taste in my mouth
@@Raylen_Fa-ield saying there was no buildup before wano is straight up false. Saying there was not a lot, and the build up was pretty well hidden is true though. As early as chapter 1 (might not have known this was the exact way it was gonna go back then) Oda set up for the fruit to be something else, since it is stated "makes your body become LIKE rubber" while it would otherwise have made more sense to say "makes your body become rubber"
@@Raylen_Fa-ield using retconned after reading this comment ?? Idk man even as far as devil fruit powers go Luffy has always been pushing it so hard this actually kinda makes things clearer doesn't it? "Rubberlike fighting style only limited by the imagination" Dark Luffy who shoved 100 shadows in himself and fought Moria? His ability to stuff himself and revive by eating meat (his favorite food) like that shit is a senzu bean??
Wasn't Wapol's DF kinda a special Paramecia? He can manipulate his own body and can manipulate anything he eats including people. Moria as well, he can manipulate his own shadow, manipulate others' shadows and even kind of merge with his own shadow when he did that sort of teleport/swap positions with his own shadow (Doppelman). As it was more like slowly transporting himself bit by bit to replace his shadow it was like a spacial warp or merge. If not he can merge shadows into himself which does have a physical effect on his body. Nothing much new on powers having every different way of manipulation plus as far as we know Wapol and Moria aren't Awakened... Maybe Wapol's could potentially allow him to eat and merge with more intangible elements and Moria's could literally merge with his shadow to be like Katakuri and/or turn inanimate objects into shadows for him to manipulate like he does with Doppelman.
Wapol only manipulates others after eating them so while it's a grey area they could be considered a part of him as for Moria unless I'm forgetting something he manipulates shadows he doesn't create shadows from nothing so manipulation is his power
@@blingsing5383 I mean it's not like he touches someone and they merge into him or he manipulates them, he has to physically devour them. Perhaps a grey area but he also seemingly keep them alive... sooo 🤷♂️ Still, he can effect his own body, inanimate objects and people, that is three aspects to his Devil Fruit. Technically Moria does have a level of shadow manipulation. While he uses scissors a lot to cut off shadows he can still physically touch and grab a person's shadow. Also when he did his huge form he called upon all the shadows he has collected on Thiller Bark. He didn't physically grab them all so he does have certain level of manipulation over shadows he has collected. Maybe awakening he can manipulate the shadows of others more so like he does his Doppelman? Which would be op.
I think the meaning of "Special" is about to have another type traits like Katakuri's DF have 💯 same abilities as Logia but isn't since it's not "natural element". Paramecia is just random, Kuma's DF also can be Special by your mean but it's not.
@@LoePenzz Well isn't Katakuri's explained that he has the ability to merge himself with mochi which is the same as Pica. Technically Wapol and Moria demonstrate this ability. Wapol more so as he can shape and manipulate his body as he wishes and merge his body with anything he eats.
@@reyrey0009 Nope. Pica only merge that means he still have solid body he just hiding in the stone kinda like Senor Pink does. Katakuri can transform every his body parts & became intangible with no-haki attack this is Logia trademark (except Blackbeard's DF).
The key here for the story though is that thus far, Luffy has believed that he was using the Gum-Gum fruit. If the fruit is based on the beliefs of the user then Luffys fruit thus far has been a mid tier. And even if its not based on the users beliefs he still only used a small portion of the fruits power to get this far on his journey, which is still very impressive.
If I had to be money, I'd but Emu as the representation of Oda. Considering he has to have abilities that rival or mirror Luffy's and the obvious Emu/Me mirror
When you do re-read the series, I really want a play by play with the new info in mind, Liam. I'm sure many feel the same honestly. There's a lot to gain from it.
I think the reveal of Luffy’s devil fruit having a hidden nature/ability should make us suspicious of Blackbeard’s devil fruit. As we know that Blackbeard mirrors Luffy in a lot of ways and is opposite in others. Maybe Blackbeard has an hidden, god-like ability with the Yami Yami no mi.
Luffy's fruit awakening to me feels like an accumulation of all his gears. Him grabbing the lightning makes me immediately think about his gear second(courtesy of the person who mentioned how fast luffy could be for him to grab lightning )
Black beard's awakened fruit might be able to cancel out & force Luffy out of that form... which makes him a very terrifying foe still, and he also can awaken the quake quake fruit & break, shatter reality apart.
That or it temporarily renders devil fruit abilities unusable for a certain duration. If I remember correctly its stated that his fruit has blackhole properties. He also seems to have to touch the user physically in order to make it activate. I think im more curious about his backstory and the possibility of him being three people/personalities in one body.
I think he just turns everything into rubber, like when he ran in air he turned the air around him into rubber to form a running platform and he similarly turned the lightingbolt into rubber.
I disagree with that idea. There is an old movie called The Mask starring Jim Carrey where the powers are more similar to Luffy or think Michael Jordan in space jam. Making the environment rubber doesn't make everyone's eyes pop out.
@@tim97bakkertje probably because there are other things unexplained like the eyes popping out or Luffy holding a lightening bolt. Luffy's fruit is to make everything a "cartoon" think The Mask with Jim Carrey.
i’ve been watchin your stuff ever since i got super into OP and that statement you made at the 10:00 stamp is exactly why i’m on this channel !! you keep the entire series, no matter what topic you tackle, simple and fun , to the core of its true intent !
The fact that Gear 5 is malleable enough to hold and turn lightning into rubber is so crazy! Imagine how fast Luffy has to be to actually grab lightning
Grabbing lightning is honestly slow motion compared to the very first feat of speed he showed upon returning to Sabaody: waiting patiently for a pacifista’s light speed laser beam to dodge it only once it was right in front of his face.
@@Y0G0FU Even if he can see the lightning before it appears he still have to be fast enough to grab it. Yes definately future sight helps, but still wouldn't say "Not hard to do with future sight" since you still need the speed to actually do it.
MAKES SENSE RUBBER CREATES FRICTION-ELECTRICITY, he cant compete with blackbeard or gorosei without gear 5, i guess most people preffered luffys heart to having a chosen devil fruit, rubber fruit was meant to be underestimated
I don't think he could swim or float because it'd contradict the universe's established logic but he could think of a way to hoover over the water or something along those lines.
Yodel! New subscriber here. Have heard of you from friends, just recently subscribed due to needing new theories and talk about OP in my daily life. I’ve enjoyed the videos of yours that I’ve watched, and I’m excited to see what else you will have in store!
The thing you say about lots of ppl having trust in Oda definitely is true. But it's not that because of that everybody loves what happens, but rather everybody waits and doesn't directly riot.. Still, if Oda can't deliver / explain this crazy twist in an appropriate manner, lots of people will be dissapointed by what's happening right now in the near future
He was vulnerable to Garp, probably because Garp used haki in that punch. Haki doesn't only harm and bypass logia powers, but also any other body type enhancements given by devil fruits. Haki doesn't turn off devil fruits, just negates them, You might've been sarcastic here, but hey, it's too late. I think there were other instances of Luffy getting hit by blunt haki attacks and him getting harmed the same way when Garp did it. Maybe the fight against boa's sisters?
@@Channel-xy2wj well, mythical zoans are op in their own right. Think marco. Yeah, luffy is op as hell now, but I don't really see it as a bad thing, he's gonna become the king of the pirates, and roger himself said that the next pirate king will surpass even himself. And turning others into rubber isn't that bad tbh, and it also looks like luffy needs to be touching whatever he wants to make into rubber. Also in strings case, mingo can actually move strings from a distance, he would be way more fucked than luffy if he could manipulate living things, well at least in that regard. Like he could just rip you in pieces if he turned you into string. Rubber doesnt do that shit. Also, I think oda is trying to break some fourth walls with the funny thing, as in - luffy spreads laughter in the series, but I also kept smiling when reading the latest chapters. The wackiness, again, is completely subjective, I can see why people would not like that wackiness. Not everyone has this kind of sense of humor, and edgy teenagers dont get it either. But I am totally on board with it, since it suits luffy too well. No series have done this, if you want seriousness in fights, naruto, dbz, mha, bleach, jujutsu kaisen and almost any other shonen series is more for you. Don't get me wrong, these series are awesome - but one piece is one piece - its always been like this. It just feels wrong because wano has been such a serious arc and it took a complete 180. But that's the magic of oda I guess. And one piece has been wacky either way, especially pre-timeskip. Think about the enel fight - that shit was wacky af. Character designs? Wacky af. The world layout? Wacky af. The crew dynamic? Wacky af. If you dont like this, how did you even get to wano without dropping one piece? Yeah, serious shit needs to happen as well, and I don't think that from now on its just gonna be wacky, oda isn't that dumb. Again, its all up to oda.
I don't think Luffy's new gear is overpowered compared to Blackbeard: - First of all, BB has a devil fruit of darkness, said to be able to absorb anything (he said it himself, even lightnings, and more than anything: devil fruit users' abilities when he touches them) - Then the second devil fruit that BB owns is also very OP, I mean just look at what happened when he used Whitebeard's fruit for the first time in his life: he litterally shattered the surface of Marineford and the ocean. We also know from WB how OP the fruit is - Also, it seems that the Gear 5 transformation exhausts Luffy A LOT, which would force him to use it with ceremony, or as a last resort - Finally, I don't think Oda would let Luffy fight BB while only one of the two has awakened his ability, so I'm guessing BB will awaken (or already have awakened) his ability for WB's devil fruit during his fight against Luffy So yeah I think Blackbeard stands a chance against Luffy
The first time I heard Oda wanting to make his main character like Jerry from Tom&Jerry (being able to literally pump up his fist to smack harder) I started to more and more compare the cartoon to One Piece. And with the parallel of Tom&Jerry, I'd say BB is the "Tom" in this equation (only starting line, lots of differences between the 2 series, but hear me out), I think with Blackbeard saying he can absorb Devil Fruit Essence(s) / Powers (depending on translation) he will absorb Luffy's Powers to a degree where we'll have a sorta Death Battle Version of Tom (BB) & Jerry (Luffy). And I'm still convinced that the OnePiece is a Comic Book describing how the World of OP turned the way it is now^^
Definitely agree, but 95% sure Blackbeard most likely has the Cerberus devil fruit, and the Blackbeard arc will likely mirror Heracles's 12 labors, with Cerberus being the last labor. Black beard will have 3 devil fruit he can awaken to keep pace with Luffy, who will likely have a 6th / Reverse gear.
It only works with lightning because Luffy is rubber. Doflamingo was doing this way earlier in the series when he would enlace the clouds with his strings to swing through the sky. You could argue that he wasn't turning the clouds into strings but I believe he would be able to string a lightning bolt too (except he'd die electrocuted).
@@RamzaBeoulves that makes no sense. Doflamingo turned a plethora of materials into strings during his fight Luffy. Buildings, bricks, glass, etc. What you said has no thought behind it.
@@memorabiliatemporarium2747 Yes, that's my point. There WAS brick and it BECAME strings. A.K.A not a brick anymore. When Luffy turned the floor (bones) into rubber, it became bouncy rubber. It was no longer solid bones. Why would lightning be different? That would be inconsistent
@@RamzaBeoulves because the things that are turned through awakening still maintain their original properties. If your logic was correct, Kaido wouldn't get electrocuted by Luffy and would get hit by a blunt force. Well, we still don't know if he'll get electrocuted but that is most likely what will happen.
@@RamzaBeoulves I think you misunderstood what the awakening transmutation does. It's cartoon logic, through and through. It's why Luffy didn't get erased by Enel (no rubber would survive millions of volts in the real world).
I believe the grabbing lightning is just his whole rubber property coming in play, he is still a good insulator for lightning, and since he isn't affected by it he can easily use it, not the first time he's incorporated lightning into his attacks either
I think Luffy wielding lightning is nothing like Zeus throwing it at Kaido, I think it would make more sense if he uses it like a whip since he can turn thins into rubber-like substance.
Really the thing I like about Luffy having this particular devil fruit is that he's probably one of the few people living in One Piece who can unlock its true power. We still don't know a whole lot how awakening a devil fruit works and therefore what it truly takes to awaken a devil fruit.
Kaido said that Luffy’s body became strong enough to handle an awakening and so it happened. So.. I guess it’s about how strong the devil fruit user is that unlocks the awakening
Ryu is different from awakening, but I kinda see what you mean. Awakening -> Fruit powers can transfer to other things Ryu -> Imbueing Objects with haki to strengthen or destroy them.
I love the Matrix quote, " He's beginning to believe", but in this case Luffy always believed. It's just getting everyone else to believe in him as pirate king, now it's Kaidos turn, then the rest of the world. He just needs to punch them all first, knock his sense into them, haha. I wonder a couple things now, did luffy turn the lightning into rubber, can he now imbue it with haki, how much of his toughness/recover/regeneration was his normally and how much was the zoan fruit, can gear 5 cancel blackbeard's touch df negation power, or can Luffy's armament/conquerors haki coating negate the negation.
Haha, thank you for the overall definitive answer to all my questions Oda in disguise, especially the details on each question. Your gut feelings are appreciated.
@@thewillofdreams6921 for his toughness/regen factor i believe it is normally his or in otherwords the fruits in general. Technically his fruit was always normally a zoan fruit which at base gives his body the properties of rubber, we were just under the assumption he was strictly paramecia because the wg name changed his fruit.
You may have forgotten that Naruto was still silly in the end as he defeated the Moon Goddess by displaying his sexy jutsu abilities , providing a crucial distraction . ...Don Flamenco kept lecturing Luffy on how to step up to his current level during the battle on Dressrosa . Flamenco's power could turn everything to string and he said Luffy should , in a similar way , be able to turn everything into rubber .
Bro everyone gets this messed up luffy can ONLY MANIPULATE HIS SURROUNDINGS not CHANGING REALITY ITSELF so he cant just wipe someone out of existence , he can like do impossible shit like making sunglasses from his body, make his hand bigger than onigashima , hold lighting , give his surrounds properties like making the ground rubber etc
If the sun god doesn't have any lightning related powers but can grab lightning i predict luffy making water rubberised at some point at the climax of the final battle. This is also assuming that water is only a natural enemy of devil fruits because of outside interference from a figure like imu
It's confirmed by oda that luffy is gonna get laser eyes, a rail gun, doom music, sonic joins his crew, super poop , among us full body suit zoan fruit, your mother and 99 red balloons!!!!!!!! Amogus
Maybe its just that luffy had to do that step into "godpowers" bc were going to see a lot more like them. Like the buddha buddha fruit of sengoku which could actually be a lot more op than we saw. What about other gods then? Maybe the fruit of blackbeard is actually also a godfruit which allows him to absorb other powers like a "god of the underworld" type sht so a rubber boy defeating him would just be shitty
About the “chosen one” argument. I started reading the series after watching your first gear 5th video (so yes it was already spoiled for me) but Luffy is basically the chosen one way back in the beginning of the series. No one points it out directly, but there are multiple times where Luffy has supernatural luck and either the crew or the enemy point it out.
Agreed. It was painfully obvious Luffy was the chosen one. I'm not sure how anyone got anything else, heck he's the main character 🤣🤣 "Gold" Roger was said to be the pirate king from episode 1, where Luffy, being the main character, declares he was going to be king of the pirates. Who watching didn't believe he would do it? And if he would do it, then he's the chosen one we're following until he reaches his destiny. He was certainly destined to claim the one piece and be king. That's why we're following his journey and watching his story. The only way they change the "destiny" part is by not having him claim the one piece or be king. Otherwise, it most certainly have been a story of destiny. Again, I'm not sure how people have been claiming otherwise. I've always been lost on that. He was also depicted as being similar to Roger, the previous King. Then we find out his father is powerful and the most wanted man. He's also leader of an army. His grandfather was a beast of a warrior and high ranking in the navy. Luffy has been destined for high ranking status within the world from the start. His name must ring louder than all of theirs, why? BECAUSE HE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER! lol. He had all the ingredients necessary for greatness. He was blessed from the start. We (the viewers) and the protagonist himself didn't know just how blessed he was.
@@machomachoduck2096 Not in Shonen manga there isn't. If there is such a Shonen story it's not One Piece. It would be ridiculous to have Sanji, for example, being the chosen one in this story, and getting the ultimate df and becoming pirate king. But Luffy will just willpower away as usual. Come on bro. That's not a slight against the story or the character, it's just facts. The manga and anime are still great from my perspective. But I wouldn't be surprised if Luffy risies to King of the world at this point, and sits in the supposedly empty throne. I'd still be alright with that. I do agree with the theory that he'll die in the end though. So his reign as king will also be short...same as Roger.
I am still on the side that while the fruit looks OP, it is actually balanced from several perspective: - Kaido have the experience against reality morphing fruits already, so other high end combatants will have too - could be the fruit wacky powers makes the enemy invulnerable too, we havent seen Kaido scream or shout out "it hurts" like he did before against lower gears
Luffy allready wielded lightning (Thors Hammer) and Luffy has always been wacky, I mean Gear 3 is literally a scene from Tom and Jerry where Jerry blows up his hand to make it large. I really like it, it fits his character
I had always expected an awakening for the Kaido fight ever since the beginning of Wano. My guess was that it’d be a pretty generic and predictable awakening where he would make the land around him elastic allowing for more versatile attacks, however, the simple fact that kaido can fly should show you why that couldn’t work or would be extremely hard to make work. Luffy having this overwhelming power allows for the defeat of an undefeatable adversary and if anything will only add to the urgency the Marines will feel after this battle to stop him, but I don’t see them bringing too much attention to them tracking him down in order to hide his existence from the world
If they simply confirm that the fruit has no impact on Luffy's personality, but rather Luffy already was the sort of person the fruit needed. This would also explain the 800 year thing. Maybe no one has consumed the fruit in 800 years, or at the very least not awakened it.
It was explicitly said that it wasn't *awakened* in 800 years. Just because it wasn't awakened doesn't mean that no one ate it. Yeah you said it yourself, but I think oda just tried to get his point across.
To be fair, Goku, Naruto and Ichigo (MCs of 3 of the 4 greatest anime of all time) have no awareness that they're great or have infinite power. Goku always trained to make himself stronger, Naruto always trained to believe in himself and Ichigo always helped people regardless of who they were. Luffy is the same, like you pointed out, but he doesn't stand out since all 4 of these magnificent MCs are clueless about their lineage.
He was always special May not have been because of his devil fruit but having been given Gol D Roger's hat by Shanks does make him special and always has
Our boy is the son of the most wanted criminal, raised by the Marine's hero, saved by a Yonko, has the Will of D., inherited Roger's will and was confirmed to have been chosen by the fruit, not the other way around Special indeed
@@RamzaBeoulves- but he never banked of his family legacy and made a name for himself. Only creative people could possibly bring the fruit to it’s full potential. So yes Luffy is special because he’s Luffy.
So Luffy, from the beginning, was shown to be a “chosen one”. As you explained: dad is one of the most dangerous men in the world, garp is a hero of the marines, Ace brother etc. Also, a mythical zoan fruit explains Luffys quick regeneration and stamina all throughout the series. I was always bothered by the fact that Luffy always seemed to physically match much larger characters in combat, I.e Luffy vs Lucci. Lucci, being a zoan, should’ve been far far physically superior to Luffy, I mean look at Luffy, he is like 5’8 and 140 lbs. Luffy should not of been able to match Lucci physically but he did. Mythical zoans increase physical strength, speed, durability, stamina, etc. all things that help brute fighters like Luffy himself. Also, Luffys durability and stamina. Luffy probably has the greatest stamina, durability, and endurance of any character in the series. A trait most often associated with zoans or mythical zoans. Luffy having a mythical zoan makes sense if you factor his stamina, strength, speed, durability ect. And he has been using it the entire series.
@@justynhill4814 right, but I mean obviously he has been built up to be great. It wasn’t a curveball however, it was known since the beginning so it shouldn’t make anyone mad.
I honestly think that there are going to be some restrictions for Gear 5th that we haven’t seen yet; not in the form of a drawback like Gear 4th, but probably something foundational to his Devil Fruit as a whole. Technically everything he’s done so far (directly, at least) is turn things into rubber and then manipulate the density and elasticity of that rubber, the latter two of which he’s been doing ever since Gear 3 and Gear 4 respectively. The lightning situation might just be as simple as him turning the lightning into rubber, and then grabbing it. That’s my current theory, anyways. It might just be that Luffy is only intentionally invoking rubber-like powers because he still thinks he ate the Gum-Gum Fruit, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
I think the limitation on gear 5 would be Luffy's inconsistant heartbeats that ressemble the drums of war. I'm sure with heartbeat like that, luffy won't last 3 minutes in this form. And also, he will not master it since it is related to his natural organ and not to a technique. He either gonna push himself and make his heart completely shut down, or he is gonna loose the battle once his gear 5 fade away.
Lasting longer just means it takes longer to wear out, however when you up the intensity it wears out faster. It's the new version of gear2, gear2 was killing him so he reduced time and use, so no threats of death, but now same problem but worse. The 5th form makes his heart beat so loud you hear it. This is just like Kengan Ashura and ohma's advance technique, over using it didn't end well for him either.
@@jeanpablotwice6058 being a rubber heart have nothing to do with what you say. A non consistent and not normal heartbeat could end his life wether his heart is rubber or not. Gear 5 will weaken Luffy heart since the irregular heart beat puts a lot of pressure on it. It's a theory tho. Im trying to figure the limitation of gear 5 just as Liam is doing in this video.

Anyone that watched Naruto for that long and didn't already realize his dad was Hokage needs more then a kick in the teeth. It was beyond obvious basically from the start.
Agreed... Do love Grandlinereview in general, but that particular comparison was quite off the mark; looks like he wanted to throw shade at Naruto for basically no reason at all. Even if the reader didn't immediately figure out the connection, Naruto being related to the Hokage in some way also makes perfect sense within the narrative and is heavily implied throughout the entire story (everything from looks to how Jinchuuriki are often relatives of the village Kage), so GLR somehow managing to miss all of that is baffling and disappointing.
The factors of becoming a strong poweruser: symbiosis of your being with the ability, time of experience of the fruits abilitys, intelligence and physical strength etc.. Wonder if the creators of the fruits put some security measures in place like the mentioned evading of the navy by the rubber fruit or whatever Blackbeard has. I somehow believe that Luffys fruit is dependent of motivation. Luffy allways sucks when looses motivation and constantly needs to be reminded of why he fights and for what, And with meeting a new culture every now and then, comes the question who made all those previsions. For example, one guy will come around and ask Shirahoshi to poseidon to her hearts content. I mean Ruffy has no interest in history, it will be Robin who will explain it to him and he must be asking in that favour from Shirahoshi... .To make all those planets align will be a fun to watch or read.
Okay so one small counter for this, it took us 25 years to see Luffy get here, but Luffy only took like what, 4 years in world to from this far? and that's including a 2 year time skip.
he ate his devil fruit when he was a kid, and been praticing with it; Just look at the real world how long it takes for a teenager athelete to reach olmpic levels. Hes entering his 20s now and pretty much gone through exstremes, awakening his fruit by now makes sense
I'm really wondering if Luffy even will have limitations on his power. I feel oda planned this a long time ago and there is someone he will need to fight that just isn't affected by his silly powers. Just saying. I feel we are getting tricked into thinking Luffy has a cost for his new power. I think there isn't a cost and that makes the prize of being the king of the pirates even sweeter cuz I feel someone is waiting for Luffy.... Shanks probably
Initially, I found it a little lazy/underwhelming to have his awakening & joyboy identity be funneled into his gear 5th form. Personally, I would've like to see all 3 of these forms act as separate entities - which could've been fleshed out nice & evenly in the remaining arcs of the one piece story. Now I can't begin to imagine what kind of power up Luffy would need to defeat Blackbeard, Imu, Xebec etc.
Guys I’m wondering if luffys attitude towards the fight could be similar to choppers raging on rumble point. Maybe luffy is gonna have a harder time getting serious and controlling gear 5 because of the nature of zoan type fruits. Just curious about what anybody thinks of this
Luffy awakening his fruit doesn't make him a chosen one. before awakening, the hito hito model nika essentially is just what the gomu gomu implies. Its not a special all amazing power, until the wielder of it does something special or all powerful (in Luffy's case its dying).
I don't think it was the dying part or he should have awakened around the time of Crocodile cause he basically bit it there too. Maybe it was him dying and something else but not JUST him being a ded
@@ckbrodge1798- well the thing is he maxed out what learned from Haki plus his fruit. The difference between this death and all the others is that Luffy was near the peek of his powers.
@@justynhill4814 Maybe. I mean who knew there was more Haki to learn before the whole Wano arc started? He seemed to have it pretty mastered against Doffy and then bam suddenly more to learn. Considering there's still a bunch left I'm betting that's not gonna be his last Haki upgrade (especially after what Kaido said about Haki)
Luffy still had to work to awaken his power. There was every chance he would fail. Shanks thought so and so did the world leaders .Luffy worked for it and as such in a was not a True Chosen one. Many had failed before him. Also Luffy may yet need up to years of training to perfect the God Fruit.
There should be another time skip. Luffy is way too young to be this strong. Its just 3 years since he began his journey. This means nothing. Noone was even close to his strenght after 3 years of pirating, not even Shanks, WB or Roger. He didnt work a shit, compared to the time other people put into their progress. I agree with Yonko or Admirals being crazy strong, since they are mature warriors - spent most of their life fighting, improving. They are the pinnacle of their experience. Yeah, this is the definition of earned. But teenanger going from worthless to beating strongest yonko in 3 years - no.
@@Fireballun I see that you totaly miss the point. Its about the time that passed in the universe, not the number of chapters. Oda could make a 1000 years timeskip in one chapter. It wouldnt take 10 milion chapters to get there.

Hello I am a new member to the fleet. Read through the entirety of One Piece since Christmas and it has quickly become one of my favorite! Been binging your videos the last few days and happy to have you assaulting my feed! 😂
I like this power up for it explains the mystery of his devil fruit. We knew it gave him rubber powers but the way it progressed became more and more mysterious and slightly confusing. I mean when he first got gear 2nd made since at first, he used his rubber body to force more blood being pumped into his there by giving doing it with adrenaline. Gear 3rd then comes out and he can make himself giant, ok that makes sense too he just stretched his body. But then he start using Red Hawk, which was confusing. I tried to logic my way into explaining it. He used his rubber body to build friction to set a portion of a blaze. Then he goes into gear 4th and has black tattoos and is bouncing all over the place. That's where I gave up on using logic and believe either his devil fruit is truly different or Oda is just up to his usual shenanigans and I'm ok with it cause why, it's fucking Oda. Praise Oda for the pay offs he gives will never disappoint. And sure enough boom, Luffy didn't have a logia type but a zoan type. Ok that makes some sense since zoans are known for transformations and that would explain gear 4th. It also doesn't controfict anything for I don't believe Luffy or even Shanks when he grabbed the fruit said he was a paramecia type everyone in the show just assumed but never confirmed. So this works perfectly, it was basically hiding the true qualities in plain sight.
I don't understand why people can't get with Luffy's new cartoon powers. We've seen plenty of people in one piece with wacky, crazy, and cartoon powers, Law would be a good example of that.💯
For me it’s because when it happened. Shit is getting extremely serious and stakes are ridiculously high, but then gotenks 2.0 comes along and destroys the serious atmosphere which just doesn’t work for me. Especially with this form coming out of literally nowhere with 0 foreshadowing(besides who’s who’s exposition dump) and coming after luffy got his ass beat to near death 3 times in the same hour or so.
Most of which have consistently been pointed out as the worst part of One Piece for two decades A lot of people never got into the series because it was too goofy and childish. It got much better after Marineford but these latest chapters are turning some fans away
"The chosen one" and destiny is a complicated topic to discuss because, they're manny ways to interprete this. Yes, Luffy is a very special boy. Being a D. already put him in a special group of characters but, his direct bloodline is also legendary, he possess 2 of the rarest powers in the story (Conquerors Haki and the voice of all things) and somehow, he can unite friends and enemies to fight with him. Put him as Joyboy is exaggerated? Well, yes and no... YES, because Luffy was already too special before that. If Oda choosed anyone else to be Joyboy, maybe the fandom would be more pleased. I mean, even without the Joyboy status, Luffy is still special and maybe the story wouldn't change much. NO, because of what Oda did about Joyboy. Right now Luffy is the chosen one but not because he born as the chosen one. Actually, you can blame that to Shanks, who left a devil fruit "just their" for a curious kid taste it. And the decision to make Joyboy just a product of a devil fruit that anyone in the world could have, in my opinion, is the diferencial between strait forward destiny stories and what Oda writes. Personally I like that a lot. We still need to understand what the will of D. is, but for now, it doesn't seem that Luffy was just the destined child.
Wasn't it explicitly stated that the fruit chose Luffy? Luffy didn't "happen" to eat the fruit which "happened" to be in an unlocked wooden box with a friendly pirate who "happened" to be there It was meant like this all along. Some call it fate, some call it lazy writing. I guess it depends what your take on free will in literature is
@@Evens27 Chapter 1044 "The fruit itself is evading us" "Mythical zoan fruits have a will of their own" In a world where events happen according to prophecies. The implications are clear
Sabo & Ace weren't strong enough or around enough to change him, dragon was gone and Luffy didn't know or care about him and we don't know his mother. The only way he was affected by his strong family was bar uncle shanks who had the fruit he ate or garp who just threw him into dangerous situationns. Alongside that, even one of his strongest abilities, conquerors haki was basically a 1/1,000,000 chance. So alot of his abilities either come from his strengths or the training he got from Raleigh. Which, might I add, didn't even happen until he already awakened conquerors haki and had two gears made! Plus, while people think it was two years, technically it was only around 1 1/2 because Rayleigh left for the last half a year. Just a fun little observation from me to anyone who still believes his family or strong allies are the only reason he is strong today. P.S. JOKE THEORY! Imagine if Luffy & Jewelry Bonnie are related considering how little we know about her & her love for food? Just a fun thought tho.
Nice one Liam. I'm looking forward to Luffy's growth and how Oda will tell that story. Its a tad jarring, but Oda has his master plan. I've been really bored lately so I've been rewatching random arcs of one piece and it is honestly astonishing how many little things fit in with the theme of luffy being NIka
The thing with Naruto at least was that it was established early on, that Naruto was sacrificed to become a vessel for the nine-tails demon and the 4th Hokage sacrificed himself to do so. At least then it's established from Ep. 1 that, he's been shunned by his society through no fault of his own, and that there are some sympathetic to the boy's plight, but they can't get over the trauma the fox inflicted onto them, and seeing how the demon is still technically alive, and now is in this boy? It's part of the charm of the series, really. That, even with his lineage, he's still reviled by his peers, and that without love even the best of souls can become twisted and broken. That despite our upbringing, we can rise above our station through dedication, hard work, and support from a loving community. To strive to better ourselves and those around us, and to try and understand their plights and help them resolve them if they're willing to let you in, and sometimes even if they arent if it means preventing them from ruining themselves and others.

Like you said towards the end, this is the end of any traditional shonen. I really have no clue what could happen next because since punk hazard (majority of the time skip) has been directly leading to this. Pre time skip was really basic being just the arc, story, bad guy beat, repeat.
I have complete faith in Oda as far as it not getting too silly, throughout this story he has introduced weird characters or situations and then made them so full of meaning by explaining them and their behavior, to me oda is on par with Tolkien both of them created worlds that were incredible and both of them loved the story they created and it shows I think the end of this story will be incredible poignant and beautiful just like it always has been
At this point luffy probably can swim, since we can see that wolf from blackbeards crew can get so big that he can go through water by just walking on the sea floor

Hi
It also doesn't necessarily matter against Blackbeard, due to being able to cancel devil fruits. In fact the more Luffy relies on it the more devastating taking it away becomes.
I mean, we think of it as gear 5th as far as I can tell, but wasn't it also supposed to be his awakening? So far we've never seen blackboard try to nullify an awakened devil fruit user, only standard users, albeit still some extremely powerful users.
Except from what we know BB can only cancel someone’s DF while holding them
Still takes physical damage tho
Ok but I don't think Blackbeard can take many conqueror Haki imbued punches from Luffy so ...
He also has most likely really strong Haki and will eventually get a third fruit, possibly a really busted mythical Zoan
Teach won't be a pushover
Of course there’s another twist. Only 2 of the 3 small people in a jacket that make up Blackbeard have devil fruit abilities
He could have haki alll types and new Abilities he goin be insane
Well, the name of the Gumi Gumi was a lie. No reason the Yami Yami can’t also be the same
Blackbeard is one person who has the right abilities to face off with God-Luffy.
@@NotSoMax So, he's accomplished but he has also not earned his new powers? Seems like a bit of a weird position.

@@blingsing5383
I mean it's not like he touches someone and they merge into him or he manipulates them, he has to physically devour them.
@@LoePenzz
Well isn't Katakuri's explained that he has the ability to merge himself with mochi which is the same as Pica.

Luffy's fruit awakening to me feels like an accumulation of all his gears. Him grabbing the lightning makes me immediately think about his gear second(courtesy of the person who mentioned how fast luffy could be for him to grab lightning )
That's what I was thinking
Black beard's awakened fruit might be able to cancel out & force Luffy out of that form... which makes him a very terrifying foe still, and he also can awaken the quake quake fruit & break, shatter reality apart.
That or it temporarily renders devil fruit abilities unusable for a certain duration. If I remember correctly its stated that his fruit has blackhole properties. He also seems to have to touch the user physically in order to make it activate. I think im more curious about his backstory and the possibility of him being three people/personalities in one body.
@Neltins isn't he able to use conquer's haki continuously in this form? That would make it possible for him to stay in this form
I think he just turns everything into rubber, like when he ran in air he turned the air around him into rubber to form a running platform and he similarly turned the lightingbolt into rubber.
I thought this was obvious, but apparently not to everyone
Stop coping it's because he's still thinking that his devil fruit is still the gomu gomu no mi his body is rubber not his powers .
I disagree with that idea. There is an old movie called The Mask starring Jim Carrey where the powers are more similar to Luffy or think Michael Jordan in space jam. Making the environment rubber doesn't make everyone's eyes pop out.

Luffy isn’t too overpowered yet. As I recall he’d still be vulnerable to Garp because there’s no defense against a fist of love.
And turning others into rubber isn't that bad tbh, and it also looks like luffy needs to be touching whatever he wants to make into rubber. Also in strings case, mingo can actually move strings from a distance, he would be way more fucked than luffy if he could manipulate living things, well at least in that regard.
Wacky af.

@@SMHETDovydas oda said it was not haki, it was love
Im definitely sticking around this channel for awhile, very enjoyable
I don't think Luffy's new gear is overpowered compared to Blackbeard:
- First of all, BB has a devil fruit of darkness, said to be able to absorb anything (he said it himself, even lightnings, and more than anything: devil fruit users' abilities when he touches them)
- Then the second devil fruit that BB owns is also very OP, I mean just look at what happened when he used Whitebeard's fruit for the first time in his life: he litterally shattered the surface of Marineford and the ocean. We also know from WB how OP the fruit is
- Also, it seems that the Gear 5 transformation exhausts Luffy A LOT, which would force him to use it with ceremony, or as a last resort
- Finally, I don't think Oda would let Luffy fight BB while only one of the two has awakened his ability, so I'm guessing BB will awaken (or already have awakened) his ability for WB's devil fruit during his fight against Luffy
So yeah I think Blackbeard stands a chance against Luffy
If you turn lightning into string you're left with no lightning and a bundle of strings
How would he get electrocuted?
Exactly, not to mention the fruit chose Luffy. Or it at least looks that way.
Luffy's learning of Ryo allowed him to affect things outside of himself, so being able to turn things outside of himself into rubber is explainable.
Ryu is different from awakening, but I kinda see what you mean.
Awakening -> Fruit powers can transfer to other things
Ryu -> Imbueing Objects with haki to strengthen or destroy them.
No it cant
Haha, thank you for the overall definitive answer to all my questions Oda in disguise, especially the details on each question. Your gut feelings are appreciated.
He rubberizes BB's darkness and prevents the power drain

If the sun god doesn't have any lightning related powers but can grab lightning i predict luffy making water rubberised at some point at the climax of the final battle. This is also assuming that water is only a natural enemy of devil fruits because of outside interference from a figure like imu

I saw a video from Cilvanis Once where the title was
"When the Main Character is Privileged"
Not the same thing. There’s a big difference between being the protagonist and being ”the chosen one”.

I am still on the side that while the fruit looks OP, it is actually balanced from several perspective:
- Kaido have the experience against reality morphing fruits already, so other high end combatants will have too
- could be the fruit wacky powers makes the enemy invulnerable too, we havent seen Kaido scream or shout out "it hurts" like he did before against lower gears
Luffy is coated with advanced armament haki, so he can damage the enemy, it's literally stated on chap 1044/1045
@@firstname2835 yeah he's coated adv haki and conq haki at same time
Yeah but he doesn’t have experience with the nika nika fruit which is pretty much the most dangerous fruit when it’s awakened
What a tag on that power is in the hands of a rubber clown that shit had me crackin bro good one
Luffy having this overwhelming power allows for the defeat of an undefeatable adversary and if anything will only add to the urgency the Marines will feel after this battle to stop him, but I don’t see them bringing too much attention to them tracking him down in order to hide his existence from the world
You added the drawing of Enel. That alone made me love this video

Even if he is a chosen one it didn’t stop Luffy for making his own choices.

Dude his heart is made out of rubber, whats the problem of rubber heartbeat? Id agree if it was a normal heart
Luffy's heart has long already got used to it since Gear 2... his body has already adapted. He doesnt even shrink anymore after Gear 3
Ah yes, 3 ANIME minutes, that can be 20 chapters long
Lasting longer just means it takes longer to wear out, however when you up the intensity it wears out faster.
Wonder if the creators of the fruits put some security measures in place like the mentioned evading of the navy by the rubber fruit or whatever Blackbeard has. I somehow believe that Luffys fruit is dependent of motivation. Luffy allways sucks when looses motivation and constantly needs to be reminded of why he fights and for what,
And with meeting a new culture every now and then, comes the question who made all those previsions. For example, one guy will come around and ask Shirahoshi to poseidon to her hearts content.
The black tattoos are just so we can see his haki according to oda since haki is technically invisible
i was lookin at his fight whit katakuri and it uses some kind of lightning atack
I don't understand why people can't get with Luffy's new cartoon powers. We've seen plenty of people in one piece with wacky, crazy, and cartoon powers, Law would be a good example of that.💯
For me it’s because when it happened.
Luffy didn't "happen" to eat the fruit which "happened" to be in an unlocked wooden box with a friendly pirate who "happened" to be there

Big hello, old fan subscriber here. Your video has once again caused me to feel the joy of the boys and NIKA, as per usual. I extend to thee my utmost gratitude and appreciation. P.S. I am in your walls.
Like you said towards the end, this is the end of any traditional shonen. I really have no clue what could happen next because since punk hazard (majority of the time skip) has been directly leading to this. Pre time skip was really basic being just the arc, story, bad guy beat, repeat.
8:10 not only that , but that happened after he lectured neji about how people control their own fate/destiny
Hello i am a new member and I really enjoy your videos!

Law: my devil fruit basically makes me a god
Luffy: hold my meat... actually I'll keep my 🍖
Yeah. At this point at age 32, while very much love to listen to and read theories and create my own head-canon. One Piece have been with me almost my whole life that nothing, nothing that I can imagine be better than what the author wants it to be. Every chapter ends or after every page, are really warm smile and thought of "ODA you madlad." Gonna enjoy the ride and enjoying it so much with GLR and many others like you.
