On a lot of channels just on UA-cam, ones that are intellectual academic analyses of certain things, movies, books, art, games etc, I've seen and participated in plenty of great debates and discussions, and learned a lot. The stereotype of all UA-cam comments being trash is far from 100% true. It really depends on what kind of channels you watch. And yeah that's just on UA-cam. On other websites the ratio of great comments to bad ones is even higher. The Internet is not how it used to be back in the 90s and 2000s, not any more. People of all ages and education levels are on the Internet. If you go watch a trash channel you'll get trash comments. Obviously. But if you go to say Sixty Symbols you can read the great discussions about physics and astronomy. It's all up to you what you want to read. The good stuff is out there if you choose to find it.

I don’t listen to a lot of pop though, old or new.
I'm 14 and listen to classical music, I listen/watch some operas, but I also listen to metal, rock, pop, ect. You're not special for limiting yourself to old music. That music was popular at the time and it's still well loved, music evolves. Music is one of the best forms of art out there, don't flex that fact that you can't enjoy curtain parts of such a fluid art form. These people are embarrassing, I've even seen people use their love of old music to shame women because ofc they would.

Did you know most people's favorite music is the music they loved in their teens and 20s. It's connected to the times when life was relatively the easiest and happiest. Most time for friends, family or entertainment etc. We latch on to a period we can't get back to and anything else reminds us how long ago that was brings nostalgia. Depending on how emotional of a person you are it can bring out intolerance, anger and disgust. This is as natural as younger generations moaning that older ones had it easier and they have to struggle so much more 'now' nd the older ones just don't understand the struggle. And in turn the older generations man that the younger are lazy and dependant on their technology. This is as old as Socrates. Gen 1 (raised and taught by gen 0 to simplify life and succeed) works with their environment and technologies until their life peaks and the art/ways of that time are solidified in gen 1's mind as "the best" discarding the older gen, gen 2 comes along (with gen 1 trying to show them this thing that made life better) reaches their peak and does the exact same thing. Then gen 3 comes. And so on. Every now and then members of the gen will declare that their Gen has it the best/the worst and the world enters a circle jerk over ow great/terrible gen N is. And every gen +/-1 is so surprised and scandalized.

I really appreciate how respectful and nuanced your point of view is, but I do find it a little weird to not like ANY music from the current time period when there's so much and it's all so different; Bon Jovi, Young Thug, and The Mountain Goats are all releasing albums in October 2020, and I think that's literally the only thing they have in common. Did you know most people's favorite music is the music they loved in their teens and 20s. It's connected to the times when life was relatively the easiest and happiest. Most time for friends, family or entertainment etc.
We latch on to a period we can't get back to and anything else reminds us how long ago that was brings nostalgia. Depending on how emotional of a person you are it can bring out intolerance, anger and disgust.
This is as natural as younger generations moaning that older ones had it easier and they have to struggle so much more 'now' nd the older ones just don't understand the struggle.
And in turn the older generations man that the younger are lazy and dependant on their technology.
This is as old as Socrates. Gen 1 (raised and taught by gen 0 to simplify life and succeed) works with their environment and technologies until their life peaks and the art/ways of that time are solidified in gen 1's mind as "the best" discarding the older gen,
gen 2 comes along (with gen 1 trying to show them this thing that made life better) reaches their peak and does the exact same thing.
Then gen 3 comes.
And so on.
Every now and then members of the gen will declare that their Gen has it the best/the worst and the world enters a circle jerk over ow great/terrible gen N is.
And every gen +/-1 is so surprised and scandalized.
During the song I forgot that they were the same person.

Ok, so, I am 18 years old and I don’t like a lot of music from my generation, I accept that it is (mostly) extremely talented people making music as a career. But it’s not my style, I will as a joke call modern music trash to my friends( it’s what they listen to) they understand that I’m just messing with them. I do really like 60’s-80’s music because it is just more pleasing to me.

I know I'm very late, but I have to admit I'm curious: what do you mean by "modern music"? Are we talking Top 40? A particular genre? A genre combined with a time period? I really appreciate how respectful and nuanced your point of view is, but I do find it a little weird to not like ANY music from the current time period when there's so much and it's all so different; Bon Jovi, Young Thug, and The Mountain Goats are all releasing albums in October 2020, and I think that's literally the only thing they have in common.
I promise I'm not trying to be a dick, because you seem lovely. If anything, I'm really interested in hearing what kind of music you're into. (St. Lucia seems like it'd be right up your alley though, depending on what parts of the 80s you gravitate towards.)
