Handy! Here are some more: 1. If you pin '%appdata%' to your 'Quick Access' bookmarks of Explorer (''), you can bounce there with a couple of clicks. 2. If you like to have multiple runs going at the same time and/or play on multiple servers, reloading the mods for each of them can be a royal pain. Instead, create a shortcut on the desktop, edit 'Target' and change it to '"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -applaunch 427520 --mod-directory %APPDATA%\Factorio\mods-SERun-Try14 --load-game SERun-Try14'. (After you set up your mods normally, use Explorer to change the 'mods' folder name to 'mods-SERun-Try14' (or w/e).) Save the shortcut, then drag it onto your taskbar. Voila! Clicking on it will start Factorio with the proper mods set up for that particular game/server and then load it, automatically. You can create a different shortcut for each run/server. (...and you can change the shortcut icon, as well.) 3. You can drop a remote radar station consisting of a single power pole, solar panel, and radar dish. It will be slow as molasses in January, but it will still (eventually) uncover the map. As a bonus, it is small enough that you can place it in the gaps between biter nests, so you can run around in the hinterlands with your tank, uncovering vast swathes of territory without your radars being disturbed. Cheers!
No, apparently this is not true, I have tested it on a testmap with identical oil patches, the amount of oil extracted is the same, regardless of any pumps / multiple pumps are pumping to one single tank.
Something I discovered recently that I love is you can Shift Right click on an assembler and then shift left click on a requester chest/filter inserter to set a filter on the components of the recipe in the assembler.
I know I quit factorio whem I saw oil the first time. Now years later I finally managed to get a rocket up in the sky with a self made train logistic system (it sucked though :D)
Absolutely love your videos. They are really inspiring - not only you sound/look/play genuine, you have fun with what you're doing. Hopefully no "grind" will ever grind down the cool way you do stuff. Thank you!
Compiling the whole series into a supercut... Nice strategy! I should try it sometime! (these vids are gold btw, are you gonna do another series this upcoming december?)
Yeah I saw it as a popular trend (on your channel included), but especially on those X-days videos compilations, so I gave it a try and it seems to work pretty good so far. When comes to series this December, I don't know. After making 62 of those short tutorials I already run out of ideas and I was hopping to make a tutorial series for expansion, but we still need to wait at least 1 year for that :/
@@Trupen As an idea, maybe you can go over some lesser-known achievements? Like burning down forests, running into biter nests with a tank, launching a fish into space (or maybe even getting fish back when you launch space science up! People prolly don't know about that one).
@@Trupen Here's another idea for your next tips video: - As you know, inserters will only pick up things that an assembler/etc. can use, ignoring everything else. That built-in filtering mechanic also works for filtered chests, so you can filter for a dozen different items, which is *WAY* more than a filter inserter can work with--without resorting to circuitry. (You'll need to connect a wire between the chest and the input inserter set to 'anything < {half the smallest stack}' *OR* set the inserter to 1 item at a time, to avoid it getting stuck.) To show how useful this can be, you can set up a filtered chest between a highly-varied sushi belt and an assembler/etc. to act as a buffer. Cheers!
On Linux, there is option for saving game in the background. Basically, instead of waiting for game to save, it just displays a little window in the corner and you are still able to play while it saves. It can be enabled in "The rest" menu in settings that shows up when you opening the Settings with a Ctrl+Alt+LMB and it's called 'non-blocking-saving'. It works only on Linux (and maybe on macOS) because it abuses how "fork" syscall creates a duplicate of process that shares the same memory pages until they changed, and only then OS makes a copy of this page for changing process. That way it's instanteneous and makes almost zero difference in performance, does not consumes more RAM and just wonderfull. It does not work on Windows because Windows does not work in general and makes your stomach hurt.
that's actually one useful reason for having a fork, but usually as a developer, fork is just headaches of deadlocks, file synchronization problems, mess of stupid signals, orphan processes and utter bullshit that's not worth the trouble. clue is : no modern sockets server uses the fork model anymore. I have PTSD from trying to fork a python process process are just better for most things, except when you want to copy-on-write memory pages
When building your Spidertron Squad, I recommend only arming your main Spider with rockets. Make the others Laser Spiders. It's hugely more efficient with rocket use, and your spiders won't blow up your own base to kill a single small biter. I'm pleased to see people learning about artillery-scouting. Good stuff.
Easily the best factorio channel on youtube. Somehow i always learn something. This time two! The belt option for striaght belts i didnt know (nearly 2k hours) and im definitely stealing the tanks on the belts for labs haha that shit was fantastic. Also +9000 points for all the loving sent to MURICA!
Heck. Even though this is a repost of tips and tricks you've already posted, this includes at least one that I've apparently missed watching. I've known about the restrict belt direction and smart belt dragging options--I already play with them enabled!--but I didn't know about the "Press R" trick to automatically turn belts! That's a game changer! 😮
I prefer not using preview cuz then i get into dumb challenges like where the nearest iron patch i could find was a 16 million patch ages away from my base that i had to invest my whole starter patch to build a train line to :D I posted it on the reddit and loads of people call me dumb for not just scouting more for a closer patch but I think my way is more interesting.
I thought of a maybe fun video idea and also maybe a cool game mode in general for this game. Maybe it's been done before? But what about like a "split sector" run? You need to play multiplayer with 5 people total, and each person is responsible for 1 sector of research while the others are locked out of crafting or automating from that sector. All players are allowed red and green science and work together at the start, then split into their sectors. Then stages where you need to build together like chem/military, you can make like automation areas where both sector players deliver their components into the same assembler. So if you're, say, the logistics guy, you would do all of the blue belt crafting. Your allies can place the belts only after you've crafted them. I think this would be fun cos from red and green science you make just enough infrastructure right up to red belts, crude oil extraction and trains. Then you can all split up into your sectors and claim resources around the map, or share them, and then you all need trains and stuff to deliver to your allies. The military guy crafts your weapons and munitions beyond military 2 and flammables/rockets, so you can't defend yourselves without him. Logistics makes everything faster. Rocket guy gets you off the planet, so you all work together as specialists.
