Dear Sebastian, as you correctly mentioned, the older formulation of Musc Ravageur was horrible .. in drydown was like a pissoir from the highway toilets, I gave my sample for free. The new formulation is toned down and became so nice and gourmandy and has the right amount of Musc. They did a good job with this reformulation, I would say.
The Musc Revageur in the begining it's not good and very strong but after a few minutes is transforming in a wonderful warm musck vanilla fragrance.i love it, i bought a big bottle❤
No one mentions that Labdanum 18 registers as powdery! I went to La Labo to smell Iris hoping for powder but it smelled like white flowers. Sales associate pointed me to Labdanum 18 for powder and he’s totally right. Sweet also.
I finally got my hands on my first bottle of Frederic Malle musc ravageur. It was not easy to find a bottle in my country and i am glad to buy it today. Very costly but it is worth for my collection.
Got samples of Musc Ravageur today, oh yess thats a Big musky scent... but my favorite part is the clove note! Somehow it blends in sooo beautifully and gives the fragrance this edge. Its soo potent, lasted a whole day on my skin with one spray. Good stuff, thanks for reviewing it!
I 100% agree w/ this. I really wanted to like Labdanum 18 but it completely fell apart on me. Musc Ravageur is much better to the point where I was surprised to see these two together.
Just ordered my very first Frédéric Malle fragrance, and of course I went with Musc Ravgeur based on reputation alone. I have 3 Le Labo fragrances (Bergamot, the Noir, and Patchouli) and have been relatively disappointed by them in general. But that's just me.. if people enjoy them, more power to em. Anywho, I love your reviews, hands down my fragrance reviewer on UA-cam. I have 200 now, and many of my purchases are based on your recommendation. So just wanted to say thanks for making me feel at ease about blind buying MR and thanks for all your hard work. Keep it up my friend.
The reformulation of Musc Ravageur is excellent. It's much more friendly. The musk in the original was too strong. I like how they toned down the musk and gave it more gourmand qualities. Hard to believe but sometimes, just occasionally, a reformulation can lead to a better fragrance.
Have a tremendous holiday, Sebastian. Thank you for being one of the very best reviewers on UA-cam. You are an encyclopedia of knowledge. See ya in 2020.
Interesting debate! I have a decant of Labdanum 18, and a bottle of Musc Ravageur. I've had Musc R for a few years and the Le Labo is a more recent sample that I received as a gift w/purchase at Nordstroms. Never noticed the similarity between the two before so I'll need to test right now! I will say without a direct test comparison - I immediately knew I needed a full bottle of the Musc R after sampling it, and have no recollection of what my opinion is/was of the Labdanum 18.
Last time I have smelled Musc Ravageur was ~2015 , and with all du respect I find it to be repulsive. Not sure if it was just me , but dirty, sweaty armpits kind of musk is overpowering the vanilla for me. I know some people are die hard fans , but it's not something I could wear.
Estée Lauder are the frickin devil. Ruining every great fragrance house like Tom Ford, FM, Le Lebo and others, are all being reformulated into oblivion. We must stop this.. paying top dollar for the heart of these fragrances to be ripped out is just not acceptable.
I haven't tried any of these but I like the notes and how they sound. Also I noticed these perfumes receive a lot of attention so it would be interesting to test both of these side by side
Try a $10 cheapie called Remy Latour Cigar Black Oud and wait about an hour for the dry down. Your educated shnoz might find it to be somewhat synthetic, but I'd like to hear if you fell there's similarites. Many feel it's a nice little clone of Musc Ravageur. If it is, I'd like to smell Musc Ravageur.
I don't get any civet or castoreum in the Le Labo either. I agree that they're very similar, however I prefer the softness of the Labdanum 18 more. Thanks for another great review.
Nope, a no-brainer for me. As much as I like Musc Ravageur, Labdanum 18 all the way for me. A personal "Fragrance For A Lifetime" juice. Thanks much for the comparo. Happy Holidays!
@Clive D Yep, me too. My "go-to" juice when I need something other than a standard "freshie" fragrance, not a standard fruity-floral either. A little old and trad, a little powdery and contemporary. Also, it works well on my skin. Enjoy!
Hi Sebastian. I’ve only smelled Musc Ravageur, so no idea of Le Labo. And I recently bought it, thus no idea of the last formulation. But this one is gourmand and I absolutely love it 😍 Great video!
I also thought I noticed a shift in the formulation ... I had no vintage musc ravaguer left to compare to - interesting to hear that you also thought you might have detected a dip in the musk level
Interesting comparrisson Sebastian, I got exactly the same results from the Le Labo. Do you know when Frederic Malle was taken on by EL? Asking because I'm not sure which formulation I have.
Although I haven't personally tried that Lelabo im going with Musc Ravageur its one of my absolute favorites and I haven't found a single Lelabo I give a darn about 🤷♂️ cool tho didn't know these were so similar.
Helmut Lang EDP smells like Labdanum 18 and it’s also by Maurice Roucel lol. I own Helmut Lang EDP and Musc Ravageur, not the Le Labo. The Le Labo goes fecal on my skin
Thank you for doing this! My preference is Helmut Lang EdP/EdC which preceded these. But I wear Labdanum and have yet to buy MR. BTW, Estée Lauder’s Mark on both houses is unfortunate. I just had a bottle of Rose 31 refilled at Barneys SF and it is now faint, like an EdC. Very sad.
Oh crap and I have to refill mine soon. Darn it. And I need to check on the Helmut Lang's again. I had always loved the original EDP back in the day. :)
Great to hear about the Nordstrom location! But I’m so disappointed about Rose 31. I wore it for 10 years and now I can’t smell it for more than an hour. Do you think waiting a month or two for it to further macerate will make a difference?
Really love Maurice Roucel's work. I own Musc Ravageur but of the two I would actually chose Labdunum 18 by a hair. Mind you if it fizzles away than I'm glad I do not have a bottle. I love New Haarlem as well and L De Lolita Lempicka is one of the best vanilla cookie with orange peel fragrances next to Lira , too bad it was discontinued :(
This was recently purchased by a EUROPEAN friend who works for Estee Lauder. So it came from the source. It smells great. I bought it earlier this year but I think I bought in September come to think of it! :)
I think estes Lauder has set an agenda to reformulate the main notes to make more volume thus more money and hence a less performing juice. Since all the top money has been made these companies are now milking the consumers . The best bet is to find new houses that have not been integrated with greed from their product, and to buy at the beginning of the creation of a juice before they sale out the original formula.
Well I not smelled the le labo but I got on a 3 mill sample of musc and well I will be picking up a bottle soon got a question does it project and push out long sometimes when I smell it o dont think its pushing out but then again some times it does anybody else have this problem or am I nose blind to it really fast?
I own the Le Labo - to me it is not that animalic. What I principally get is the Labdanum, tonka and pachouli - wonderful oriental - slight amber. Honestly, I wear it to sleep sometimes so maybe i'm missing the scene where it falls apart like gollum tumbling into lava. I think the Le Labos are hand mixed when you buy them - could an inexpert chef have missed the ratios desired for optimum Labdamonium?
I wore L18 when i worked at LLB almost everyday... but now i work at FM, i dont even want to go with musc ravageur... not sure why... they r very similar but have different vibes. Maybe they just react differently on different ppl
Bilal Asmal no they are not, all perfumes aren’t the same when you try anything by Frederic Malle you will be able to tell the difference FM changes the way your nose responds to fragrances!

now i want to smell the OG
You got it backwards. The older was much better
The Musc Revageur in the begining it's not good and very strong but after a few minutes is transforming in a wonderful warm musck vanilla fragrance.i love it, i bought a big bottle❤

Yes they are both powdery even Musc Ravageur! :)
Musc ravageur on everyday that ends in Y, it's so good!
Team labdanum 18!!! But musc is great to👍
Frederic Malle fragrances are my dream collection.
I finally got my hands on my first bottle of Frederic Malle musc ravageur. It was not easy to find a bottle in my country and i am glad to buy it today. Very costly but it is worth for my collection.
Musc Ravageur Body Butter is heavenly.
Got samples of Musc Ravageur today, oh yess thats a Big musky scent... but my favorite part is the clove note! Somehow it blends in sooo beautifully and gives the fragrance this edge.
Its soo potent, lasted a whole day on my skin with one spray.

I bought Karagoz, Ani, and Musc Ravageur. After testing on my skin, I have been using Musc Ravageur 4 days in a row, it is that good.
Musc Ravageur is probably my second favorite fragrance. Fantastic stuff.
Ooh tell us your favourite ? 😃
Everyone just adores half statements 😅
Try Méharées Acqua di Profumo (Eau de Parfum) by L'Erbolario Lodi which is easier to wear (missing the more animalic note) and is only $30 on Amazon
Musc Ravageur is better composed and darker. I don’t usually vote for Musk but I vote for the Malle.
I have an older version of MR. I find Lab 18 pretty light...my Lab18 is close to a first edition too.
Oh wow even back then Labdanum 18 was light. Good to know. :)
I just purchased Musc Ravageur. Love the dry down.
$300+ is just too much for me!
Last time I have smelled Musc Ravageur was ~2015 , and with all du respect I find it to be repulsive. Not sure if it was just me , but dirty, sweaty armpits kind of musk is overpowering the vanilla for me.

damn.. that estee brought so many perfume company ???
So houses like Parfums de marley are safe for now
They are more than likely going to be acquired with the traction they're getting
@@zergenzerg6853 They reformulate themselves anyways
I haven't tried any of these but I like the notes and how they sound. Also I noticed these perfumes receive a lot of attention so it would be interesting to test both of these side by side

Thanks for sharing!
Love these types of comparison videos please do more! Would like to see a santal 33 also another 13 comparision

I personally don't like the dry down in Labdanum 18, it's too soapy musky for me. Dry down of Musk Ravageur is very pleasant
Musc Ravageur is so much better and a great winter scent.
Hi Sebastian.
I’ve only smelled Musc Ravageur, so no idea of Le Labo.
And I recently bought it, thus no idea of the last formulation. But this one is gourmand and I absolutely love it 😍
Great video!
Awesome. Yes it's a musky gourmand. Thank you for stopping by! :)
Great video and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and have a blessed night
I love music Ravageur, it’s a master piece. Thank you for your comparison video, not a big fan of La Labo fragrances anyway except Santal 33
Ahmed saad how is performance n sillage
Not even close. Musc Ravegeur is a masterpiece.
I also thought I noticed a shift in the formulation ... I had no vintage musc ravaguer left to compare to - interesting to hear that you also thought you might have detected a dip in the musk level
Hi tanks for review am asking le labo laudanum18 is unisex or more feminin
I have both the batches pre 2015 and past 2015. To my nose they are both 98% similar.
Great review Sebastian. Happy holidays from Mexico.

BTW I just saw the LE LABO set up at Nordstrom's. :)
Great to hear about the Nordstrom location! But I’m so disappointed about Rose 31. I wore it for 10 years and now I can’t smell it for more than an hour. Do you think waiting a month or two for it to further macerate will make a difference?

Hi, what year did you purchase musc Ravageur? It looks darker than the 2019 version reformulated i think. What year did you purchase lab 18 ? Thanks
This was recently purchased by a EUROPEAN friend who works for Estee Lauder. So it came from the source. It smells great. I bought it earlier this year but I think I bought in September come to think of it! :)

You are right hence why I do tend to focus a lot on smaller niche houses here on this channel! :)
You should also include Meharées by L'Erbolario which came before both.
Well I not smelled the le labo but I got on a 3 mill sample of musc and well I will be picking up a bottle soon got a question does it project and push out long sometimes when I smell it o dont think its pushing out but then again some times it does anybody else have this problem or am I nose blind to it really fast?
Muse R is a sweet BEAST, love it 😍
I own the Le Labo - to me it is not that animalic. What I principally get is the Labdanum, tonka and pachouli - wonderful oriental - slight amber. Maybe you might be right. But I do enjoy Le Labo as a house for sure! :)
I wore L18 when i worked at LLB almost everyday... but now i work at FM, i dont even want to go with musc ravageur... not sure why... they r very similar but have different vibes. Maybe they just react differently on different ppl
is this oily than poal on skin?
Musc ravageur ❤️
calvin klein's obsession would've been a much better comparison, musc ravageur is a $300 dupe of that $30 cologne
Love musk fragrances on men and women. What are your recommendations for women’s musk fragrances or unisex. Thank you.
Have you watched all my Musk Fragrances videos? I’ll link them to you in a bit.

Adore both! ❤
My favorite for now musc ravageur!
oh yes it's good!
Love Labdanum 18 in the opening but it just gets poopy smelling on my skin lol. I have a bottle of Musc Ravageur and adore it
try
Nicolai Kiss Me Intense
How about Helmut Lang which is similar to MR?
Musc Ravageur :)
Elora Danon 1988
Musc ravageur literally smells like a gas station restroom with piss on the floor lol. I don’t understand how ANYBODY likes that fragrance
I thought Hugh Hefner liked those kinds of smells? No? ;)
Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews ahahahahaha
Musc Ravageur is disgusting. Laudanum 18 wins by a mile, although both smell like old man.
Well I wouldn’t call MR disgusting or smelling like old man but then again it’s your nose! LOL
Why would anyone buy these for such high price ? its craziness in my opinion. There are better colognes out the in the galaxy.
Bilal Asmal no they are not, all perfumes aren’t the same when you try anything by Frederic Malle you will be able to tell the difference FM changes the way your nose responds to fragrances!
