This is true in every arena of the market. It's sad but all we can do is control ourselves and have the self respect and dignity to say NO to these ridiculous "companies".
Luxury pricing for the perception of luxury. That is exactly what Le Labo is! Well said. I’m currently obsessed with Le Lion and would love to get one. Stretching my sample. The only one Labo I have considered was Patchouli 24 but I simply refuse to buy a bottle. Thank you for making the point that there is no correlation between pricing and quality. So true.
I feel the same way. I remember a few years ago buying a 50ml of Bergamote 22 from Le Labo as a blind buy, which wasn't a very smart decision. I'd read a lot of glowing reviews but was ultimately disappointed when I finally tried the fragrance. I don't really understand the hype. I've also tried their Rose perfume and really enjoyed it, but since I tried it they've changed their formula and it's pretty generic now. I could buy something similar for a whole lot less. Great review, thanks for sharing
100% agree. The other thing I can't understand is their choice of packaging given the price - it looks like a Molton Brown shower gel bottle. Nothing wrong with that on its own, but for the price you expect something with more thought into it.
Hi Pep. Thanks for all the useful info in this video. I've just recently found your UA-cam channel after seeing you with JJ on Effluvium. I have already enjoyed Persolaise, Victoria's bois de jasmin & Sebastian, the perfume guy. In this chat you brought up the issue of value. Yay! Also, I enjoyed your comic annoyance with the dodgy spray & niche companies seemingly setting high prices based on impressions. I so agree that this hobby is a passion for which most people need a budget.
I haven't smelled this one, but yes, the price stops me from owning any more Le Labo. I do enjoy The Noir and might keep my eyes out for a partial bottle... or just bite the bullet and get myself a little one despite the price.
Just smelled this and although it's not a bad scent, i could not pay those prices they ask for it. I purchased a 200 ml of le lion and couldn't be happier. 😊
LOL Pep, you are amazing, I literally just filmed a video last weekend having a massive whinge about price gouging and in particular a very popular perfume in the market at the moment which last year was selling for about $350 but it’s just hit Australia and the asking price tag is $520 😱😂 I literally felt offended😂
U mentioned Patchouli 24. Patchouli 24 is fantastic! I'm a proud owner of this unbelievable smokey vanilla. When u spray it on, u splutter and choke - it's that smokey!
Thankfully there are still quite a few houses with great fragrances and 'reasonable' prices. I appreciate it when reviewers bring the price/value factor in the conversation, good one Pep. Personally I just ignore the 'luxury' houses.
Love the 'aspirational purchase' moniker. The luxury market certainly thrives on ignorance and fantasy. Consequently, I'd imagine that brands are terrified of exposure and consumer disillusionment, hence the heavy reliance on image and hype. Hilarious toss at the end too. 😆 We'll fantasize that it was "not frustration." 😂
I adore Helmut Lang…I wore the Eau De Cologne in 2001. The only fragrance I can find that is similar is TF Metallique…I so wish they would bring it back.
I understand the criticism on price point, but the Chanel is not really a deal either! 🤣 They are both priced as Veblen goods. Both are high quality and unique. However, few ambers play up the medicinal/mentholated/spicy aspects of labdanum the way Labdanum 18 does. Love your videos!!
😂Oh my gosh! I not laughing at you, but I think that this is the first time that I've seen you worked up about a topic/fragrance before. Personally for me, I have kinda stayed away from Le Labo after a kept smelling this unpleasant fragrance everywhere on people (like bug spray) and I found out it was Santal 33. On a side note, I purchased a small 30ml of Musc Ravageur and as much I do enjoy it, I'm not in love with the scent. I'm wondering if I missed the true perfume as it smelled in the early 2000's, a better representation I mean. OR is it the fact that there are so many fragrances out there these days that it doesn't stand out like I'm sure the way it probably did back in the day. Makes me think. PS- About 6 years ago, my wife bought Rose 31, and I thought that it was a beautiful scent. But I'm guessing that 6 years ago it was probably much less for their bottles. +1 Le Lion
I get what you’re saying…..as for a great labdanum Le Lion is not the pinnacle, it’s an easy pick up. There’s far better out there and not necessarily more expensive.
Even though this is an ok fragrance, but there is no way that you could compare this to something like Le Lion de Chanel. Le Lion is absolutely glorious and regal.
I thought I had a sample of this but can’t find it. I remember thinking it was nice bc it was one of the first powdery perfumes I’d sampled. Generally I’ve not found any LLs that impress me enough to buy. Closest is their oud.

You've mentioned that Helmut Lang several times. I need to look into that. Agreed on all the rest of your thoughts ✌🏻

Great video and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try it and have a blessed day
Though, still love it 😊 I use to wear for many years Helmut Lang for her… sadly discontinued.
The Helmut Lang is glorious. Paid around $270 AU in 2020 just before it was discontinued.

Oh, have you uploaded the video? Or is it coming? I want to know what perfume it is.
@@TheScentinel haha not yet I only just finished with April videos I’m a bit behind on editing but I’ll bump that one up the priority list 😂
Is it YSL BabyCat?

I know, i used to own it and enjoyed it.

Imagine how much that half mililitre was worth
The smash in the end 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤣🤣🤣

I guess i can only talk about the ones i have tried.
And what would you call a better labdanum then le lion?
Love this review!
Even though this is an ok fragrance, but there is no way that you could compare this to something like Le Lion de Chanel. Le Lion is absolutely glorious and regal.
That was kind of my point. The fact that it costs more than Le Lion.
I thought I had a sample of this but can’t find it. I remember thinking it was nice bc it was one of the first powdery perfumes I’d sampled. Generally I’ve not found any LLs that impress me enough to buy. Closest is their oud.
Oh, a lot of people talk about how funk that oud is. So you like it?
This is a well known psychological effect when you raise prices more people buy due to perceived value.
What happened to your Instagram Account? Did you remove it ?
Got deleted. No idea why, but i decided that it's not worth going back.

Only Le Labo im really interested in, is Another 13. Everything else, i dont care.
I actually want to try that one too.
But I agree with you it’s overpriced….
The middle finger in the thumbnail is for the sample's sprayer ? 😂
It was totally coincidental
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
😂love it when you get mad! I agree that Le Labo is highly overrated and their customer service is bitchy too! 😂❤
Well that doesn't help perception of them at all!
I'll try to be mad more often, it feels good😁
This is how reviews are done! 🤌
Thank you
