I was curious about it, but lately after so many disappointments I don't hold my breath for new releases of Big Brands, also it doesn't sound like something I want, I prefer to use that money for a bottle of The Moon and The Night. Thanks for the review Sebastian!!!
Greetings Sir! I have been waiting for your review on this. I must confess I absolutely hated Uncut Gem, until this hot midwestern summer. At our temps over 100° F it was a whole new beast. Bright and citrusy, hard and slightly metallic with my body chemistry. It reminds me of the fragrances my Dad wore in late 70's. I can describe it, however, it is a feeling that I love. As always, thank you for your honesty with this scent. I do love cloves so I will give it a shot. I will be sampling soon. Have a wonderful weekend! Cheers!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
The last thing that I did in Paris today before heading back to London was visit my favorite Frederic Malle location to buy another bottle of my favorite scent from this house. I was honored to have been the very first person to try it and wear it there. I love the warmth and intimate feeling that this fragrance gives me. It intrigued to no end so I walked around with on my body for two hours and like you, it disappeared completely on me. This is a skin scent, much too light for my taste, but I SO love the opening of this scent, it makes me calm and I felt safe and secure. I’m now back in London and I will wear it to bed to see if I feel differently in the morning.
I definitely believe you should get some perks-so if you get a chance to purchase something first you should- I'm happy that you do! All the investigation and education you do should count for something! I know everytime I watch I always say I've learned something and not just about the fragrance I learn about the perfumer, notes, prices and SO MUCH MORE than I can put in a comment❤❤❤❤Thanks!
I am just getting so into galbanum too. I sampled Rose n Cuir. I love it and I would get a bottle if I can find a good deal. Definitely will go trying Synthetic Jungle! Thanks for the recommendation ❤
Wonderful house. One of my favourite perfumes of all time is Portrait of a Lady. The moon and the night will soon arrive and I can't wait for them to get here.
When I wore L'EAU D'HIVER, the Uber driver said I smelled like rich baby powder 😂 I absolutely love it but it smells very very light to me. Definitely an intimate skin scent. It flourishes the best In the winter. ❤ doesn’t last too long but the scent is very lovely. I don’t wear fragrances for compliments but they rained on me like a hail storm. Definitely not as powerful as Portrait or Carnal. Love the name of the fragrance Heaven Can Wait though, there’s a song by Sia that I absolutely love with the same name
Enjoyed your video. I’m a big Elena fan also however, you’re right about the lightness and not lasting enough. Having said that I have found a way to extend the “life” of these fragrances. Apply a neutral lotion on the areas that you like to spray your fragrance. It will triple the longevity….e.g. Cetaphil lotion.
Whoa! This video has really educated me. I just received this heaven can wait perfume aa a gift. I was shocked at the price and decided to investigate. I am disappointed that the fragrance doesn't last despite exorbitant price. The price should be reviewed downwards ASAP.
Keep in mind that these people are fragrance aficionados. Regular people (mom, dad,gf,bf,Uber driver, random people at gym) they will just like almost anything that barely smells good! 😅 Uncut Gem is a really good fragrance, it's just that it's very expensive 🫰 to justify that smell.
Elena creates really beautiful fragrances and the lightness and minimalism allows you to appreciate the quality of each note. Having said that, I was bored with Heaven Can Wait. I’m kind of bored with ambrette at the moment. Nevertheless, I just bought a bottle of Elena’s Cuir d’Ange and that is holding me over 😅
When I saw this coming out, I hoped you would do a review of it sooner rather than later:) I’d love to see an updated ranking of all of the Frédéric Malle fragrances!
Thank you for the honest review. I totally agree with you: if you ask me to pay such a huge amount of money for a perfume, it must have longevity too. Personally I love Ellena’s creations and I’d probably love this composition because of the notes. (What about a video on ambrette seeds perfumes? Or maybe you have it already, I’m checking) I own a bottle of Portrait of a lady dated 2010. It’s my second one and keep it as gold. The longevity, projection and quality of the juice is incredible.
So typical Jean-Claude Ellena🙈I saw him in Milan as well and all I wanted to say to him was "Your fragrances are so wonderful but why can't you make them last longer please?" 😁
Bought musc ravageur as a gift for someone and got a gift with purchase deluxe dabber bottle of heaven can wait ….. opps lol but i agree I can’t smell it on the sample card anymore so the longevity seems short as you noted. All the other sample cards are still very strong many hours later.
So many brands are really getting carried away with the price gouging. Maybe they think they can get away with it because it’s disguised by inflation. Or maybe they know it’s going to end up at the discounters for half price so they overinflate the price initially to compensate.
You're late to the party. Anything you smell won't smell like it used to because most of them have been reformulated. So you'll be smelling a shell of it's former self.
@pullingthestrings5233 Gotcha yeah I just started my collection about 2 years ago. I got a lot of so far trying to test them all. I got a lot of pdm and so far that is my favorite house

I really would like to know how Estée Lauder makes these decisions. Do they want to acclimate people to these “barely there” scents? Or are they banking on a target market that does not like to be seen as offensive (when wearing fragrances)? It’s really sad what they have done to FM and Le Labo. The prices they ask are exorbitant for skin scents.
So a wow ambrette fragrance that lasts in your opinion please I to love ambrette was thinking le labo but I really want one to a wow fragrance and performance?

I mostly agree with your review, with one caveat. I was generously given a brand sample in store today at Niemen's, and is it possible you're missing the Ambroxan here? It's lasting long on my skin and that's what I'm attributing it to. It makes it smell more robust, and carrying for hours. I'm an Ambroxan oversmeller, so perhaps that's it? I still don't think that makes it worth the price, by any means. In my opinion, it detracts from its appeal. I do enjoy the clove overdose, and it speaks loudly aside the Ambroxan, but the latter overshadows Ambrette, my favorite, and even the iris.

Are you actually paying attention? I said the last 5 releases. Not everything that's launched from the brand. The last 5 fragrances are what I ranked! :)
The first Frederic Malle I bought in 2012 was already pretty expensive. I spend around $250 dollars in 2012 for a 50ml bottle of Portrait Of A Lady so they just keep going up up and up!! Sadly! :(
I find that some of the fragrances I love get better with time regarding lasting power. But, yeah…having to over spray a bottle of 400.00 perfume…not worth the investment.
Sorry you found this underperforming. I do agree with you that some fragrances don’t perform on one’s skin. But I have found more and more the more I learn that it is very individual and it seems to me has got more to do with our noses anosmic functions than the actual performance, apart of course if a fragrance is made to be beast mode or more of a close to skin scent. But I remember when you reviewed Musc Palace from Jovoy you really stressed it’s soft very skin scent performance that you found hardly detectable. But when I got it on me it s one of the most potent Musc scents I own! And I have to be careful when spraying it as people get my trail from when I enter the door at my work…😵💫 And I a, not an over sprayer. So apparently our noses play tricks on us, for sure! I also noticed that you did not mention the perfume house Le Couvent that I believe Jean Claude Ellena makes most of the fragrances for that house, which is a mid priced but high quality independent niche house… Maybe something for yo8 to look into… ? ❣️
That's such a bummer. I haven't tried it yet but I heard it smelled lovely. I'm so tired of 400$ + perfumes having such crap performance. I haven't reached for any of my FM bottles in so long and I'm holding onto the end of my POAL bottle because I won't repurchase with the dip in quality. I thought it sounded like a Killian fragrance too!
Maybe, this fragrance doesn't target perfume collectors/experts. Possibly, Frederick Malle needed to add a subdued scent in his line for a rich clientele that doesn't understand nor desire the other bold scents from the brand. The kind of people that go to Chanel to buy a white tee-shirt. Heaven can wait seems to be FM white tee.
These fragrance houses are screwing the scrum of their clients . We should stop buying them and support more Indie houses and fairly priced niche brands.
I don't think we should discriminate based on the house, we should just be buying perfumes that don't pander to trends or are unoriginal. Brands track what sells and if we as consumers show only innovative, fairly priced perfumes sell, that's what we will get.
@ThePerfumeGuy make sure you see the 1943 masterpiece though ;) Also did you try the 3 Astier de Villatte by Ropion? I'm off to Paris next week and have prioritised smelling those.
I have seen it. I went to film school and studied film history. In fact I love history even more film history. I have smelled the Astier De Villante fragrances and will pick Les Nuits in September when I'm in Paris but I have to resniff the others as well to make sure I like them but for sure I'm picking up Les Nuits.
@@ThePerfumeGuy That's amazing, I often think of a perfume as an olfactory film, albeit a non-linear one because you have top note materials that can make it all the way to the base.
Sad that this is another overpriced released from Frederic Malle. Though they have some real gems, I feel that they play the exclusivity/luxury card too much - charging outrageous prices just to maintain a lux status. It's particularly aggravating when the longevity is awful as well. I mean, when you go for a Jean-Claude Ellena creation, you know he has a trademark light touch, but you still expect at least a certain level of performance, especially at that price point. Some of his stuff for Laboratorio Olfattivo is rather fleeting as well, but this sounds even worse and it costs over twice as much!
I am going to pass. I left the house with Portrait of a Lady. I don’t like it, sorry but it marked a departure from the original script. The bespoke and classic elements left the house.
I have not tested this fragrance but I am certain that it is a masterpiece. When I look at a real niche fragrance from one of the most iconic master perfumers in history, the only thing that I do not care about is the projection or longevity. The only thing I would care about for a fragrance like this is the scent itself, the creativity, the concept behind that, and the artistic value of that. I personally consider weak longevity as a positive point !!! because it tells me that the fragrance was created for its own artistic value, not for marketing. Believe me, Jean-Claude Elena knows how to make a beast fragrance better than anybody else.
I thought this was way too flowery for a guy. The flower notes overpower the spice. If you want to smell like a 60-80 year old lady, then this is the fragrance for you!
If subjectivity around performance is the reason why you don't like to talk about it, isn't everything regarding fragrance subjective? Just a constructive thought
Leave it to Estee Lauder to screw over the unsuspecting fragrance shopper. Lauder is currently The Destroyer of Once Quality Perfume Houses. Tom Ford and FM are rapidly going down the toilet.
Waay way too floral. I smelled it at the Frederic Malle boutique store in NYC. Its not unisex. It vibes very vintage and old school feminine. Extreme powderyness and vegetable notes. Cool for women of a certain type. Hard pass for most men.

Sounds like a name by Kilian would use. CM
That's what I said. Even when I first heard about it! LOL!
OK
I thought this was way too flowery for a guy. The flower notes overpower the spice. If you want to smell like a 60-80 year old lady, then this is the fragrance for you!
Tried to forget last year (Uncut Gem) and yet...
Another dud from Frederic Malle. Too expensive and uninspiring.
This scent can wait.
If subjectivity around performance is the reason why you don't like to talk about it, isn't everything regarding fragrance subjective? Just a constructive thought
I don't think the way a fragrance performs really has anything to do with subjectivity. :)
@@ThePerfumeGuy okay. Thank you for the great content as usual!
Well, well who owns FM today? A corporate entity? That would explain your underwhelming impression.
Well, I would think that, but they launched synthetic jungle under Estee Lauder
The Moon and Rose and Rose & Cuir we’re also under a Estée Lauder.
@@ThePerfumeGuyThe Moon is spectacular
The Moon obviously if you watched saw where it ended up on this list! :)
@@ThePerfumeGuythat's true. The real test is whether it gets watered down or reformulated in the future.
👍
Leave it to Estee Lauder to screw over the unsuspecting fragrance shopper. Lauder is currently The Destroyer of Once Quality Perfume Houses. Tom Ford and FM are rapidly going down the toilet.
🌹
Lol remember how bad the movie was!!! I was like 7 ( and my name IS Heaven!!) well the movie was so bad we walked out! Ha I hope this is better!!?
Waay way too floral. I smelled it at the Frederic Malle boutique store in NYC. Its not unisex. It vibes very vintage and old school feminine. Extreme powderyness and vegetable notes. Cool for women of a certain type. Hard pass for most men.
The night is 1200 bucks 😂
The Night was $1500 when I bought it in 2019 how could it be $1200 now?
Just looked it up on FM website and it's $1950. YIKES
does it smell like feminite du bois?
No never thought that even with the plum
400$ and no longevity. Well, that's called modern scam. 3$ Ikea candles can do more.
Well, I also have a three dollar IKEA candle and I can’t smell a thing
it's a dud!
