  • In this video I show how I replace a worn out sliding door bottom roller on my VW T4 Transporter, see description end for link to roller. The roller has ground flat in the runner channel so is in need of replacement. While I replace the roller I also take care of some rust issues in the channel which I cover in greater detail in another video on my channel. The replacement of the sliding door roller is an easy DIY job and makes a massive difference to the opening/closing of the door. The sliding door roller can also be adjusted to alter the alignment of the door if required at the same time. The same principal can be used to replace sliding door roller on other vans too so this video can be used as a guide to change sliding door roller on most vans out there. I also need to change the middle roller as that has also worn flat and I will cover that in another video.

I have gone through a few rollers this year and finally the bottom fell through underneath in the closed position....had it welded and now it's playing up again. And now the lip that the seal is on along the bottom has come off with rust! It may be a new step welded in jobbie!!!

Great video, thanks very much, just done my daughter's T4. One question, do you put any grease/vaseline in the channel the rollers run in?

No that will attract dirt and clog the wheel even quicker, just make sure its clean and dry and give it a clean out every now & then

I just used a cheap one from eBay and it's still fine nearly 2 years later

My door doesn’t have the bottom stop under the step. Any idea if I can get a replacement?

eBay should be your friend for that

Camper Conversion and just one more question if I may......is there any upward movement from the rollers . Obviously the weight of the door is on this roller, but can you lift your door a bit more than 1/2 inch when all is in situ? I’m thinking I need to replace my bottom rollers as they look to be too low. They are rubbing on the door seal with no apparent way to further adjust their height.

You can adjust the height of the door by adjusting the mounting brackets & centre bolts but it won't raise the height of the bottom roller, it may have the wrong roller on or an incorrect replacement rubber seal if the roller arm catches the seal

Wish mine is that easy to fix!!! Mine is stopping after opening a few inches....you then need to lift it up to continue....the rust has hit hard inside!

it might still just be the wheel ground totally flat too along with a flat middle roller. Only way to know is to take it out and have a look. I need to replace my middle roller too and then it should roll totally freely. If the rust hasn't eaten through your metal, you might be able to treat it like i treated mine, there's a video of my rust repair on my channel

Where can we buy those new rollers?

I just bought mine off eBay, there is usually a advert link to them under the video (unless you have ad-blockers turned on)
